● A scale: Basic user
● B scale: Independent user
● C scale: Proficient user
5. What’s expected of a C1 student?
Has a good command of a broad
range of language allowing
him/her to select a formulation
to express him/ herself clearly in
an appropriate style on a wide
range of topics without having to
restrict what he/she wants to say.
Can express him/herself
fluently and spontaneously,
almost effortlessly. Only a
conceptually difficult subject
can hinder a natural, smooth
flow of language.
Can produce clear,
smooth-flowing, well-
structured speech,
showing controlled use of
organisational patterns,
connectors and cohesive
devices.
Maintains a high degree of
grammatical accuracy;
errors are rare, difficult to
spot and generally
corrected when they do
occur.
7. General course information
Duration: 120 hours, 2 terms
Coursebook: New Language Leader Advanced
Exams:
● Mock exam (end of January)
● Final certification exam: June & September
Students may withdraw from the course by giving written notice to the school prior to the end
of April.
8. Exams (2013-2019)
Each part of the exam gets a top grade of 25.
Pass grade is 15 in each part.
Students who do not pass all parts in June can resit the
parts of the exam they failed in September. Note that
the exam structure may be subject to change.

11. Right to appeal
Students will be given the opportunity to see their exams.
Should they not be in agreement with the grade received, they have the
right to appeal. This must be done in writing using the form available
online or at the school.
Appeal must be based on:
● Exams not fitting in with the objectives, contents and assessment
criteria outlined in the curriculum and school syllabus,
● the use of assessment tools and procedures or grading criteria
which were not consistent with the school syllabus
12. How to succeed at C1.2
✗ Be proactive: seek out opportunities to practice English
outside class.
✗ Set default language to English on your computer,
phone, …
✗ Watch TV and video in English. Activate subtitles in
English if necessary.
✗ Listen to the radio, podcasts, music, anything that is
of your interest, that will keep you motivated
✗ Do as much reading as you can. It does not have to be
full books - articles, posts, short stories, news items,
brochures, leaflets, Seeing language in context will
help you fix structures and collocations.
✗ Do not hesitate to ask your teacher for advice on
where to find what you are looking for.
