CHICAGO PARKING METERS
IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO
Using data and algorithms to help parkers find open parking spaces
Decrease time parkers spend searching for parking spots
RESULTS:
Passport collaborated with Chicago Parking Meters to test
ParkChicagoMap, a predictive parking availability app for the city’s
36,000 spaces. Using an algorithm based on historical parking data, the
app shows parkers the likelihood of finding a parking spot within a
specific area. Color-coded results indicate the probability of finding a
parking space on any city block up to seven days in advance. The app
works in conjunction with the ParkChicago app so parkers have a
convenient option to locate and pay for parking.

BUFFALO, NY
Increasing utilization and revenue by creating mobile-pay-only parking
environments
Reduce hardware, associated costs and maintenance
RESULTS:
Buffalo replaced outdated meters on 2,700 parking
spaces with its personalized white label parking app,
Buffalo Roam. The city also configured its operations to
create eight mobile-pay-only parking zones.
“We don’t have any plans to purchase any more pay-and-display machines if we can
avoid it. It doesn’t make sense to spend another $10,000 on initial costs alone,
especially as app utilization increases.” — Davis Hough, Senior Special Assistant to the
Parking Commissioner, Buffalo, NY
