INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
Globally, radio station stands out as a universal medium of mass communication more than other media like newspaper and television because it is cheaper, commands a more extensive reach and has a serenely modest way of encroaching inoffensively on people’s pri
expected of them and what they need to know is the role of the media. University radio stations are relevant in the current context since these are usually being operated by students and teachers, so it could be said that they are the hotbed of great programmers, announcers, producers and directo
back to the fact that these types of stations emerged around 1917 in the United States, however, over time they grew around the world, this was a way for students to express their feelings about different topics, always being watched by experts in this field. In the Latin American sphere, the first university
National Autonomous University of Mexico began to broadcast its own. It is important to point out that the vast majority of university stations are located in Amplitude Modulation, however, there is also a good number transmitting from the Internet, where family and friends of those who work there c

“Since the start of paid radio ads, the industry has maintained a stronghold in the world of media, connecting listeners around the world with music, talk shows, marketing messages, and more. But with the rise of digital tactics, some might claim radio is too old-scho
without hesitation, is no, there’s nothing old-school about radio. While radio has evolved over years, from traditional AM/FM programming to digital alternatives such as Pandora or Spotify, listening to music and news is still a central and habitual part of daily Amer
This statement shed light on the dilemma of radio broadcasting in the modern world. It establishes the relevance of radio broadcasting and its impact on the audience. Although made by an American, it reflects the general truth about radio in our current world especially
information offered by modern technology. Radio in the world over is the cheapest technology to obtain and to use in the mass media. It cost less than the cell-phones or can even be found in cell phones and other new gadgets of technology and it can be operated with or without electricity. The batteries a
affordable and available to the most remote and poorest rural communities (Oyelade, 2006).
Radio is without a doubt Africa's most essential and accessible medium. Because of the high prevalence of illiteracy and distribution issues with print media, newspapers are often unavailable to the vast majority of Africans (Odetoyinbo6page64, 2018). The radio is ca
shortwave transmission reaches the remotest parts of the world and beyond. This makes it possible for those in the remotest and poorest parts of the continents in Africa to have access to information from a distant and nearby locations. Similarly, television is out of reach for most people, and national televisio
the other hand, is ubiquitous, and radio sets are reasonably priced. Radio programming is also less expensive to produce and deliver than other types of media. National radio stations transmitting from the capital and other major cities are perhaps the most valuable source of information in practically every Afr
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The campus radio station is established in institutions of higher learning to positively broadcast education and informative programmes to lecturers and students and allow interesting host communities to build a career in the communication industry (Sanusi, 2020). In rec
agent of social development. This may be due to the advent of several social media platforms, both lecturers and students hardly have time to listen to radio programmes which have gone a long way to limit the social relevance of campus radio stations on the host community. The advancement in technology
to sustain its social relevance especially in campus communities much is expected of them.
Several studies on-campus radio have been carried out over the past years, but a wide gap persists, especially in linking social relevance to campus radio stations in Nigeria. Research results in the past decades indicate that much has been done on the education radio b
education broadcast programmes on the learning quotient of students (Chima & Obayi, 2019); effectiveness of Anambra broadcast service radio news on teaching and learning (Onuegbu, 2021); radio listening habit among university students their attitudes towards programmes (Ajaegbu, 2015); community
radio in Nigeria: the opportunities and challenges (Sanusi, 2020) among others.
4. STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM
In recent times, much attention has not been given to campus radio station has an agent of social development. This may be due to the
advent of several social media platforms, both lecturers and students hardly have time to listen to radio programmes which have gone a
long way to limit the social relevance of campus radio stations on the host community.
5. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Counselling as a helping profession that is aimed at resolving personal, social or
psychological problems and difficulties, has contending perceptions especially
among education stakeholders (school management, parents and students). Thus,
little information is available on the extent to which education stakeholders
perceive counselling services and it has been of help to secondary school students
in Ondo State.
