1R: Hi Michael. My name is Jane. I’m here to talk to you about
a few things today. What I do is
I talk to kids about things that have happened to them. I like the
shirt you’re wearing today…I
love Spiderman.
1E: My daddy’s taking me to see the movie and everything this
weekend!
2R: You must be very excited. Now Michael, if at any time
during our talk today you don’t know
the answer to one of my questions, you can just say, “I don’t
know.” Okay? So, if I asked you
where I lived, what would you say?
2E: I don’t know.
3R: That’s right because you have never been to my house. I
would also like you to tell me if I
say anything that is not true today, okay? Can you do that for
me?
3E: Yeah.
4R: Great. So, if I said that your dad’s name is Adam, what
would you say?
4E: No, it’s not. His name is Steve.
5R: Very good. So, tell me what some of your favorite things to
do are.
5E: Well, I like to play outside with my brother.
6R: Oh yeah? Tell me more about that.
6E: We play lots of games like kickball and basketball.
Sometimes we make up games too.
7R: Good. Now tell me about school.
7E: My favorite time at school is when we have recess outside.
Me and my friend John play on
the obstacle course. And sometimes we play capture the flag
with the whole class.
8R: That sounds like fun. It seems like you really like to spend
time outside. Now can you tell
me about what you don’t like about school.
8E: My teacher is really mean. One time she sent me to the
principal’s office for talking too loud
during class.
9R: Tell me more about that.
9E: I was talking to my friend and she got really mad and yelled
at me in front of the whole
class. Then she made me go to the office. I was really scared.
And I had to miss recess. I was so
mad.
2
10R: I bet you were. That stinks that you had to miss recess.
Tell me about your Thanksgiving
holiday.
10E: My family came to visit from New York and we all went to
my grandma’s house. We ate
lots and lots of food.
11R: Good. Can you tell me everything you remember doing
from the time you woke up on
Thanksgiving to the time you went to bed that same day?
11E: Um. My mom made me some pancakes for breakfast when
I woke up. Blueberry pancakes
‘cause that’s my favorite. Then I had to get dressed in my nice
clothes and mom put this funny
stuff in my hair to make it smooth, she said. She said I had to
look nice because we were going
to my grandma’s house. Then ne, my mom and dad and my
brother got in the car and we went to
my grandma’s. Everyone was there. We ate a lot of food like
turkey, stuffing, and green bean
casserole. Then me and my brother and cousins played
videogames. I fell asleep on the couch.
Then my mom woke me up and said we had to leave. It was dark
outside. So, we went home, and
I went to bed. I was really tired.
12R: Okay, great. Now I would like you to tell me everything
you did from the time you woke
up today to the time you got home from school.
12e: Everything?
13R: Yes, as much as you can remember.
13E: Well, my mom woke me up at 7AM. I wake up at 7 cause’
school starts at 8. Then I got
dressed and ate some Cheerios. Then I said bye to my mom and
dad and me and my brother
walked down to the bus stop and got on the bus. And then we
got to school, and my brother went
to his class and I went to mine and talked to my friend John.
Then we read books. And then we
did a science experiment where we planted seeds in the dirt.
They’re going to grow into big
plants my teacher says. Then the bus came and picked us up and
brought us home.
14R: All right. Well, now that we know each other a little bit
better I want to talk about why we
are here. Do you know why you are here today?
14E: Yeah. My dad said it is to talk about what Mr. Lawrence
did to me.
15R: Tell me everything that you can remember about that.
15E: Um. He touched me, and I didn’t like it.
16R: Tell me more about that.
16E: Well he made me pull down my pants and then touched me
on my bottom and um…
17R: How many times did this happen, one time or many times?
17E: Only once. I had to go to his house one day after school
cause’ my babysitter couldn’t come
over.
18R: Okay. Tell me everything about that one time.
18E: Well I was at his house and we were on the couch
watching TV and he just put his hand on
my private. He said he wanted to play a game with me and then
he told me to pull my pants
3
down, but I said no because I was scared and didn’t want to.
Then he said if I didn’t he wouldn’t
let me go home so I did.
19R: What happened after that?
19E: Then he told me to touch him, but my dad came to pick me
up, so he stopped.
20R: Tell me everything about that.
20E: He was loosening the belt on his pant when my dad honked
the car horn and came to the
door. He quickly moved away from me and told me to pull my
pants back up.
21R: You mentioned that Mr. Lawrence told you to touch him,
tell me everything about that.
21E: He told me to touch his private and then forced my hand to
touch it over his pants.
22R: You mentioned you were watching TV on the couch can
you describe the couch and where
you were?
22E: We were sitting in the living room on a big blue couch. It
had lots of pillows and blankets.
We were in the middle facing the TV and we were watching
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
23R: Okay. Thank you. Now I want to make sure I understood
everything you said. You were
watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on TV with Mr.
Lawrence on his blue couch in the
living room when he put his hand on your private and told you
he wanted to play a game. Then
he told you to pull your pants down, you said you didn’t want
to, then he told you he wouldn’t let
you go home unless you pulled them down. You then pulled
your pants down and he told you to
touch his private, then forced your hand to touch his private on
top of his pants while he
loosened his belt. Your dad honked the horn to indicate he was
outside to pick you up and Mr.
Lawrence moved away from you and told you to pull your pants
back up. Is there anything else
you remember about the incident?
23E: No. I think that’s all. I can’t think of anything else.
24R: Okay Michael, you’ve told me why you came to talk to me
today and given me lots of
information and that really helps me understand what happened.
Thank you for talking to me
today. Is there anything else you think I should know before
you go home?
24E: Nope. I don’t think so.
25R: Well if you remember anything else about what happened,
let your mom or dad know and
they can bring you back here to talk to me. Okay? So, are you
getting excited for Santa to come?
25E: Yeah! I can’t wait.
23R: What do you hope that he will bring you?
23E: A PlayStation!
24R: A PlayStation? Wow. Well I hope you get everything you
want and have a great Christmas.
Let’s go find your mom.
ART 111. Paper. Due via EMAIL only. Tuesday.
11-13-2018. 33 points.
As the syllabus states, this paper is worth
1/3 of your final grade (33 points). Please
note thesedue dates:
Oct 25 - you must confirm with me the artistand art
work that you wish to do. I will approve or
not approve it, based upon various criteria. If I
approve it, then off you go. If I do not,
then please
follow this process through until you are approved.
You choose, I do not.
Nov 13 - by midnight. The paperless paper is
due via email to me. Don’t include a
picture of the work.
LATE PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
[email protected] Indicate “Survey Paper”
for Subject.
Choose one work of art. Only one and writeabout it.
The essay will start with an intro paragraph and
end with a
conclusion. In between, you will identify and analyze
at least 3 interpretations/discussions of that
one artwork
by various art historians. Mind you, you are
NOT to use the internet. No Wikipedia; no
web pages; no blogs. You
will use books and articles. ONLY! Use of an
internet source will result in 0 points.
You must have at least 3
sources. 5 is OK. 2 is too little. 3. 6 is
nice too. But 3.
Or, to put it a different way, 3 sources or
more - whatever you need to make a good
paper of about 1000
words, but no fewer than 3 sources.
Please understand the purpose of the paper is
to allow you to read critically so that you
can understand
subtle differences in what writers say about
one artwork. And I want the comments or
interpretations of the
artwork you choose to be ‘juried’, ie generally
accepted. On the one hand, we call this
analysis. On the other
hand, when you do it right, we call it
synthesis. You may NOT use quotes in the paper.
None. There’s no
reason to use quotes. Paraphrase what the writers
have to say. That way, I know that you
understand what
you’re reading. Or not.
This 1000 word paper (submitted via email) will
focus on various interpretations of that one
artwork. One
artwork. Only one. Methodology is very important here;
you might even say the most important aspect. If
you
choose the wrong approach you risk receiving a
poor grade on this paperless paper.
Respect the due date, or no papers accepted late.
Period. Simple. I am handing this paper
out on Oct 16. Also,
you need to include a brief bibliography. Here are
somestylistic examples you can choose from.
And, of course,
the bibliography does NOT fit into the wordcount.
Come see me if you have any questions or
problems.

Interview type and interviewee selected: (E.g., Cognitive
Interview with a cooperative crime
witness; Good practice interview with an alleged child sexual
abuse victim; Custodial suspect
interrogation, etc.) Specify here. Cognitive Interview with a
cooperative witness. Nicole
Stevenson, 27 years old, witnessed a hit and run.
Interviewer = R
Interviewee = E
1R: Good afternoon, Nicole. I’m Detective Kaci and I will be
interviewing you today. How are
you?
1E: Alright, I suppose.
2R: I hope this meeting isn’t inconvenient for you. Is there
anything I can get you before we start
to make you more comfortable? Coffee or water? You can help
yourself to some candy – I
always keep it out.
2E: Oh, thank you. I will take a glass of water and a Reese’s.
3R: Wonderful. Now, you’re here today to provide some
information about a hit and run you
witnessed ... is that correct?
3E: Yes.
4R: Alright, well let me first explain the process to you. I’m
going to ask you to tell me
everything that you remember from the beginning to the end.
Then, if necessary, I will ask you
more specific questions and then we’ll try some different
techniques to help you remember any
extra details. Please state everything as accurately and as
truthfully as you can. Don’t be afraid to
admit you can’t remember something. “I don’t remember” or “I
don’t know” are perfectly
acceptable to tell me. At the same time, don’t leave anything
you do remember out – we need
every bit of information, regardless of how insignificant it
might seem. Also, do not feel
intimidated – you are the one with the information and you are
helping us. We depend on you,
not the other way around. Do you have any questions before we
begin?
4E: No, I don’t think so…
5R: Okay, great. So, I am just going to ask you to recall
everything you can. Tell me what
happened as if you were telling a story.
5E: Well, okay. I was driving back from a night out with friends
and it was about 2AM in the
morning. The roads were relatively empty. I, uh … passed under
a bridge and saw someone
there; I’m not sure what they were doing. But they were hard to
see, I barely noticed him.
Anyway, after I passed the bridge I stopped at a nearby gas
station to fill up my car. As soon as I
had gotten my car all set up with the pump, I heard a sort of
thumping crash? And then a screech.
I saw headlights coming from the bridge and a car slowly pulled
out, then it sped off. I was only
able to catch a glimpse of the license plate. So, I walked out
into the road a little to see what had
happened under the bridge and was able to make out a lump on
the ground. I walked a little
closer to get a better look, and that’s when I called 911.
2
6R: Okay, great. I have just a few additional questions. If you
don’t know the answer, that’s
perfectly okay. Do you remember if there was a car behind you
as you were driving?
6E: No. I don’t remember seeing it.
7R: Do you know what the man under the bridge was doing?
7E: I honestly couldn’t say … I barely saw him. I remember
thinking to myself, he should be
more careful because he could easily get run over if he wanders
out onto the street.
8R: Can you describe the gas station you stopped in?
8E: Mercury, I think. It was right by the bridge, on the right.
9R: You said you heard a noise. Could you describe it?
9E: Yes, well, there was a loud, dull thud and a scraping noise.
It wasn’t really a crash, but it
obviously came from a car. And the thump I imagine was from
the collision.
10R: Great. Tell me about the car – what type of car it was,
what color, and as much of the
license plate as you can remember, if at all. Try to get a clear
picture in your mind.
(pause) 10E: I’m not good with cars. It was a big car, looked
like a Jeep in shape but a little bit
bigger. It was a dark green color – it was kind of shimmery. As
for the license plate, honestly, I
feel like my memory might be useless on that. I just remember
an X and a 4 somewhere in there
… but I can’t say if it was in the first part or second or even if
it was on the same side.
11R: That was great. Everything you’ve said so far has been a
great help. We’re just quickly
going to try another approach. Are you okay with that?
11E: Yes, that’s fine.
12R: I’d like you to try to remember everything in reverse
order, from the end to the beginning.
Try to visualize it. Sometimes the reversal of order can
stimulate the memory and can help recall.
However, don’t try to think of anything new – just report what
comes to you.
12E: Okay. So, I called 911 after approaching the lump and
identified it as a body. There was no
one else around. I saw the car speeding off. It came out of the
bridge slowly. I saw the license
plate as it came out – (pause) MXR. There was a 4 in there
somewhere. I heard the screech and
thump. I heard a car approaching – it was pretty loud and
sounded kind of fast. I was getting gas,
but I had to do the self-service stuff since the store itself was
closed. I pulled into the gas station.
I went under a bridge and saw a person there – I know it was a
male and he was wearing a
hoodie.
13R: That was good! We got a little bit of additional
information. So, basically, when you were
pumping gas you heard a scraping thud noise which you
interpreted as a collision – and as you
later saw, someone had been hit. The car was a dark green,
Jeep-looking vehicle with license
plate MXR – first three letters and the number 4 in the second
part. The car sped off seconds
after impact. Is there anything else that I’m missing?
13E: Oh, yes. Just a small thing I forgot to mention. The car
swerved a bit as it drove off. I think
it was just to counteract its original position after the collision,
but I don’t know. Accidents are
really messy.
3
14R: Good, I’ll just add that to my notes. Well, you’ve been a
wonderful help today. Is there
anything else I can get you before we end the interview?
14E: No, thank you.
15R: Thank you for coming in today. I know it can be very
stressful, but you really did help us a
lot. I’m going to give you my card in case you have any more
information or questions you’d
like to ask. Feel free to contact me anytime. I hope you enjoy
the rest of your day.
15E: Thank you. Have a good day.

1 Interview type and interviewee selected (E.g., Cogn.docx

  • 1. 1 Interview type and interviewee selected: (E.g., Cognitive Interview with a cooperative crime witness; Good practice interview with an alleged child sexual abuse victim; Custodial suspect interrogation, etc.) Specify here. NICHD Structured Protocol with an 8-year-old child regarding inappropriate touching with a focus on the introductory phase and the transition to the substantive phase. Interviewer = R Interviewee = E 1R: Hi Michael. My name is Jane. I’m here to talk to you about a few things today. What I do is I talk to kids about things that have happened to them. I like the shirt you’re wearing today…I love Spiderman.
  • 2. 1E: My daddy’s taking me to see the movie and everything this weekend! 2R: You must be very excited. Now Michael, if at any time during our talk today you don’t know the answer to one of my questions, you can just say, “I don’t know.” Okay? So, if I asked you where I lived, what would you say? 2E: I don’t know. 3R: That’s right because you have never been to my house. I would also like you to tell me if I say anything that is not true today, okay? Can you do that for me? 3E: Yeah. 4R: Great. So, if I said that your dad’s name is Adam, what would you say? 4E: No, it’s not. His name is Steve. 5R: Very good. So, tell me what some of your favorite things to do are. 5E: Well, I like to play outside with my brother.
  • 3. 6R: Oh yeah? Tell me more about that. 6E: We play lots of games like kickball and basketball. Sometimes we make up games too. 7R: Good. Now tell me about school. 7E: My favorite time at school is when we have recess outside. Me and my friend John play on the obstacle course. And sometimes we play capture the flag with the whole class. 8R: That sounds like fun. It seems like you really like to spend time outside. Now can you tell me about what you don’t like about school. 8E: My teacher is really mean. One time she sent me to the principal’s office for talking too loud during class. 9R: Tell me more about that. 9E: I was talking to my friend and she got really mad and yelled at me in front of the whole class. Then she made me go to the office. I was really scared. And I had to miss recess. I was so mad.
  • 4. 2 10R: I bet you were. That stinks that you had to miss recess. Tell me about your Thanksgiving holiday. 10E: My family came to visit from New York and we all went to my grandma’s house. We ate lots and lots of food. 11R: Good. Can you tell me everything you remember doing from the time you woke up on Thanksgiving to the time you went to bed that same day? 11E: Um. My mom made me some pancakes for breakfast when I woke up. Blueberry pancakes ‘cause that’s my favorite. Then I had to get dressed in my nice clothes and mom put this funny stuff in my hair to make it smooth, she said. She said I had to look nice because we were going to my grandma’s house. Then ne, my mom and dad and my brother got in the car and we went to my grandma’s. Everyone was there. We ate a lot of food like turkey, stuffing, and green bean
  • 5. casserole. Then me and my brother and cousins played videogames. I fell asleep on the couch. Then my mom woke me up and said we had to leave. It was dark outside. So, we went home, and I went to bed. I was really tired. 12R: Okay, great. Now I would like you to tell me everything you did from the time you woke up today to the time you got home from school. 12e: Everything? 13R: Yes, as much as you can remember. 13E: Well, my mom woke me up at 7AM. I wake up at 7 cause’ school starts at 8. Then I got dressed and ate some Cheerios. Then I said bye to my mom and dad and me and my brother walked down to the bus stop and got on the bus. And then we got to school, and my brother went to his class and I went to mine and talked to my friend John. Then we read books. And then we did a science experiment where we planted seeds in the dirt. They’re going to grow into big plants my teacher says. Then the bus came and picked us up and
  • 6. brought us home. 14R: All right. Well, now that we know each other a little bit better I want to talk about why we are here. Do you know why you are here today? 14E: Yeah. My dad said it is to talk about what Mr. Lawrence did to me. 15R: Tell me everything that you can remember about that. 15E: Um. He touched me, and I didn’t like it. 16R: Tell me more about that. 16E: Well he made me pull down my pants and then touched me on my bottom and um… 17R: How many times did this happen, one time or many times? 17E: Only once. I had to go to his house one day after school cause’ my babysitter couldn’t come over. 18R: Okay. Tell me everything about that one time. 18E: Well I was at his house and we were on the couch watching TV and he just put his hand on
  • 7. my private. He said he wanted to play a game with me and then he told me to pull my pants 3 down, but I said no because I was scared and didn’t want to. Then he said if I didn’t he wouldn’t let me go home so I did. 19R: What happened after that? 19E: Then he told me to touch him, but my dad came to pick me up, so he stopped. 20R: Tell me everything about that. 20E: He was loosening the belt on his pant when my dad honked the car horn and came to the door. He quickly moved away from me and told me to pull my pants back up. 21R: You mentioned that Mr. Lawrence told you to touch him, tell me everything about that. 21E: He told me to touch his private and then forced my hand to touch it over his pants.
  • 8. 22R: You mentioned you were watching TV on the couch can you describe the couch and where you were? 22E: We were sitting in the living room on a big blue couch. It had lots of pillows and blankets. We were in the middle facing the TV and we were watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 23R: Okay. Thank you. Now I want to make sure I understood everything you said. You were watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on TV with Mr. Lawrence on his blue couch in the living room when he put his hand on your private and told you he wanted to play a game. Then he told you to pull your pants down, you said you didn’t want to, then he told you he wouldn’t let you go home unless you pulled them down. You then pulled your pants down and he told you to touch his private, then forced your hand to touch his private on top of his pants while he loosened his belt. Your dad honked the horn to indicate he was outside to pick you up and Mr. Lawrence moved away from you and told you to pull your pants back up. Is there anything else
  • 9. you remember about the incident? 23E: No. I think that’s all. I can’t think of anything else. 24R: Okay Michael, you’ve told me why you came to talk to me today and given me lots of information and that really helps me understand what happened. Thank you for talking to me today. Is there anything else you think I should know before you go home? 24E: Nope. I don’t think so. 25R: Well if you remember anything else about what happened, let your mom or dad know and they can bring you back here to talk to me. Okay? So, are you getting excited for Santa to come? 25E: Yeah! I can’t wait. 23R: What do you hope that he will bring you? 23E: A PlayStation! 24R: A PlayStation? Wow. Well I hope you get everything you want and have a great Christmas. Let’s go find your mom.
  • 10. ART 111. Paper. Due via EMAIL only. Tuesday. 11-13-2018. 33 points. As the syllabus states, this paper is worth 1/3 of your final grade (33 points). Please note thesedue dates: Oct 25 - you must confirm with me the artistand art work that you wish to do. I will approve or not approve it, based upon various criteria. If I approve it, then off you go. If I do not, then please follow this process through until you are approved. You choose, I do not. Nov 13 - by midnight. The paperless paper is due via email to me. Don’t include a picture of the work. LATE PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. [email protected] Indicate “Survey Paper” for Subject. Choose one work of art. Only one and writeabout it. The essay will start with an intro paragraph and end with a conclusion. In between, you will identify and analyze at least 3 interpretations/discussions of that
  • 11. one artwork by various art historians. Mind you, you are NOT to use the internet. No Wikipedia; no web pages; no blogs. You will use books and articles. ONLY! Use of an internet source will result in 0 points. You must have at least 3 sources. 5 is OK. 2 is too little. 3. 6 is nice too. But 3. Or, to put it a different way, 3 sources or more - whatever you need to make a good paper of about 1000 words, but no fewer than 3 sources. Please understand the purpose of the paper is to allow you to read critically so that you can understand subtle differences in what writers say about one artwork. And I want the comments or interpretations of the artwork you choose to be ‘juried’, ie generally accepted. On the one hand, we call this analysis. On the other hand, when you do it right, we call it synthesis. You may NOT use quotes in the paper. None. There’s no reason to use quotes. Paraphrase what the writers have to say. That way, I know that you understand what you’re reading. Or not. This 1000 word paper (submitted via email) will focus on various interpretations of that one artwork. One artwork. Only one. Methodology is very important here;
  • 12. you might even say the most important aspect. If you choose the wrong approach you risk receiving a poor grade on this paperless paper. Respect the due date, or no papers accepted late. Period. Simple. I am handing this paper out on Oct 16. Also, you need to include a brief bibliography. Here are somestylistic examples you can choose from. And, of course, the bibliography does NOT fit into the wordcount. Psychology Today, Oct. 1991: 82-88. 1 Interview type and interviewee selected: (E.g., Cognitive Interview with a cooperative crime witness; Good practice interview with an alleged child sexual abuse victim; Custodial suspect interrogation, etc.) Specify here. Cognitive Interview with a cooperative witness. Nicole Stevenson, 27 years old, witnessed a hit and run. Interviewer = R Interviewee = E 1R: Good afternoon, Nicole. I’m Detective Kaci and I will be interviewing you today. How are you? 1E: Alright, I suppose.
  • 14. 2R: I hope this meeting isn’t inconvenient for you. Is there anything I can get you before we start to make you more comfortable? Coffee or water? You can help yourself to some candy – I always keep it out. 2E: Oh, thank you. I will take a glass of water and a Reese’s. 3R: Wonderful. Now, you’re here today to provide some information about a hit and run you witnessed ... is that correct? 3E: Yes. 4R: Alright, well let me first explain the process to you. I’m going to ask you to tell me everything that you remember from the beginning to the end. Then, if necessary, I will ask you more specific questions and then we’ll try some different techniques to help you remember any extra details. Please state everything as accurately and as truthfully as you can. Don’t be afraid to admit you can’t remember something. “I don’t remember” or “I don’t know” are perfectly acceptable to tell me. At the same time, don’t leave anything you do remember out – we need
  • 15. every bit of information, regardless of how insignificant it might seem. Also, do not feel intimidated – you are the one with the information and you are helping us. We depend on you, not the other way around. Do you have any questions before we begin? 4E: No, I don’t think so… 5R: Okay, great. So, I am just going to ask you to recall everything you can. Tell me what happened as if you were telling a story. 5E: Well, okay. I was driving back from a night out with friends and it was about 2AM in the morning. The roads were relatively empty. I, uh … passed under a bridge and saw someone there; I’m not sure what they were doing. But they were hard to see, I barely noticed him. Anyway, after I passed the bridge I stopped at a nearby gas station to fill up my car. As soon as I had gotten my car all set up with the pump, I heard a sort of thumping crash? And then a screech. I saw headlights coming from the bridge and a car slowly pulled out, then it sped off. I was only
  • 16. able to catch a glimpse of the license plate. So, I walked out into the road a little to see what had happened under the bridge and was able to make out a lump on the ground. I walked a little closer to get a better look, and that’s when I called 911. 2 6R: Okay, great. I have just a few additional questions. If you don’t know the answer, that’s perfectly okay. Do you remember if there was a car behind you as you were driving? 6E: No. I don’t remember seeing it. 7R: Do you know what the man under the bridge was doing? 7E: I honestly couldn’t say … I barely saw him. I remember thinking to myself, he should be more careful because he could easily get run over if he wanders out onto the street. 8R: Can you describe the gas station you stopped in? 8E: Mercury, I think. It was right by the bridge, on the right.
  • 17. 9R: You said you heard a noise. Could you describe it? 9E: Yes, well, there was a loud, dull thud and a scraping noise. It wasn’t really a crash, but it obviously came from a car. And the thump I imagine was from the collision. 10R: Great. Tell me about the car – what type of car it was, what color, and as much of the license plate as you can remember, if at all. Try to get a clear picture in your mind. (pause) 10E: I’m not good with cars. It was a big car, looked like a Jeep in shape but a little bit bigger. It was a dark green color – it was kind of shimmery. As for the license plate, honestly, I feel like my memory might be useless on that. I just remember an X and a 4 somewhere in there … but I can’t say if it was in the first part or second or even if it was on the same side. 11R: That was great. Everything you’ve said so far has been a great help. We’re just quickly going to try another approach. Are you okay with that? 11E: Yes, that’s fine.
  • 18. 12R: I’d like you to try to remember everything in reverse order, from the end to the beginning. Try to visualize it. Sometimes the reversal of order can stimulate the memory and can help recall. However, don’t try to think of anything new – just report what comes to you. 12E: Okay. So, I called 911 after approaching the lump and identified it as a body. There was no one else around. I saw the car speeding off. It came out of the bridge slowly. I saw the license plate as it came out – (pause) MXR. There was a 4 in there somewhere. I heard the screech and thump. I heard a car approaching – it was pretty loud and sounded kind of fast. I was getting gas, but I had to do the self-service stuff since the store itself was closed. I pulled into the gas station. I went under a bridge and saw a person there – I know it was a male and he was wearing a hoodie. 13R: That was good! We got a little bit of additional information. So, basically, when you were pumping gas you heard a scraping thud noise which you
  • 19. interpreted as a collision – and as you later saw, someone had been hit. The car was a dark green, Jeep-looking vehicle with license plate MXR – first three letters and the number 4 in the second part. The car sped off seconds after impact. Is there anything else that I’m missing? 13E: Oh, yes. Just a small thing I forgot to mention. The car swerved a bit as it drove off. I think it was just to counteract its original position after the collision, but I don’t know. Accidents are really messy. 3 14R: Good, I’ll just add that to my notes. Well, you’ve been a wonderful help today. Is there anything else I can get you before we end the interview? 14E: No, thank you. 15R: Thank you for coming in today. I know it can be very stressful, but you really did help us a lot. I’m going to give you my card in case you have any more information or questions you’d
  • 20. like to ask. Feel free to contact me anytime. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. 15E: Thank you.
