1. The magazine which I got my inspiration from for having two contents
pages is the vibe magazine. The vibe magazine is an extremely
successful Hip Hop / Rap magazine, so it was really helpful to look at
there ideas. I used the black and white on the first page, and the white
and black on the other. I did this because I really wanted the words to
stand out, and make it clear what the page was. The font which I have
used is the same font as the header on the front cover, this again makes
the words stand out.
Something which again Vibe do is on there first contents page they have
random artists, with a picture and a little bit about there story. They use
abit of a random lay out, and these information boxes scattered around,
but as I was going for a more sophisticated look I wanted them in an
orderly manor. I also gave abit more information than Vibe usually does,
but I wanted my readers to have a chance to find out whether they
wanted to read the whole article or not, so I believe the more
information the better.
I have used a picture to dominate the whole second page of the contents,
this is because although this artist isn’t my cover artist, he is still one of my
main stars and I wanted to make that clear. I also wanted to make the genre
clear, as he is only young, so I had the artist hold a bottle of champagne.
2. The way in which I have laid out the second contents page is taken from
popular music magazine NME. Although this is the only idea I have used from
their magazine, I think it is very important as it has gave my contents page the
structure I wanted. I wanted the headers in the my magazine to make it clear
to the audience what they where going to find in my magazine and by using an
explanation mark on the more, it makes it clear that there is even more than
what meets the eye. When thinking of possible titles / artists which I could use
on my contents page, I googled already existing Hip Hop/Rap stars and then
created some of my own ‘stars’. It is important that when you are writing the
little sentence next to the page number that you are using some kind of pun,
or something which will catch the readers eye. An example of this is when I
was talking out ‘Lil Twist’ and I said the word ‘Storm’, I used this word to show
the reader he has been popular this year, but also because the word twist
implies that there is a hurricane / storm.
