2. • In movies, women are portrayed as an object or as something that is
sexualised
• We associate different aspects with different genders
• If the tables are turned, the movie poster looks like a completely different
movie
• Woman looks like she has more power than the men

7. • Mulvey argues that women
were positioned by the
narrative and the camera to
be seen predominantly in
one of two models-
sexually active or helpless
victim
• Her model takes the view
that the majority of people
working in the media are
male- the writes, designers,
directors, camera
operators- so it is to be
expected that what they
make will be made from a
male point of view and with
a male audience in mind-
that is, with a male gaze.

11. In this Dolce and Gabbana
advert, there are 4 men and
one woman. One of the men
is pinning the woman down
whilst the other three watch.
Two of the men are topless
with the other two men
watching, with their shirts
only half buttoned up. The
woman is helpless and is not
wearing much clothing.
Although this is an advert for
a clothing brand, the
message behind it is strong.
It could be suggesting that
this happens in the real world
and people do not try to do
anything to prevent it, hence
why people are just watching.

• It shows that the mum of the family is shown to be caring, thoughtful and
the general backbone of the family
• There are two daughters that follow the different gender tropes
• The ‘dumb blonde’ who is typically a ‘daddy's girl’
• In the show it is likely that she says things that either do not make sense
or that are stupid
• The other daughter is shown to be intellectual
• She looks up to her mum and wants to be like her
• She has a ’81’ on her top, suggesting that she goes to school as it could
have a link to her school
• The storyline played out by the daughters will mainly be arguing

24. Unapologetic Barbie campaign
• In the three articles, some people are
agreeing with the way that Barbie is
advertised in the new ‘unapologetic’
campaign
• People think it is good that the doll is
advertised to have different careers
who are typically associated with a
man, for example an astronaut
• However it has received constant
criticism from other people, saying
that the Barbie doll is still the same
in terms of figure and the shape of
the doll
• This gives unrealistic expectations for
little girls who are a fan of Barbie
• Every Barbie doll looks the same
which gives the impression that
although you can have any career,
you still have to be good looking
