2. SOCHAGOTA LAKE
IT IS AN ARTIFICIAL LAKE
CREATED TO PROVIDE
POTENTIAL TOURIST IN PAIPA,
LOCATED IN THE HOTEL AREA
IN PAIPA, BOYACA, NORTHEAST
OF COLOMBIA.
3. HISTORY
It Is not known its origin of the word Sochagota; Since
the word Socha in chibcha means "Moon water",
Sochagota could mean "drop of water from the Moon".
When the artificial lake was made in 1956, it was
baptized with the name of Sochagota. Another
possibility is that the name belongs to a witty play on
words related to the Anglicism "such-a-drop“ it refers to
the considerable extension of the Lake, simultaneously
mixing it with words in Spanish. The idea of building the
Lake Emiro Fonseca Franky, was in 1955 when he was
Governor Olive towers and with the help of Gustavo
Rojas Pinilla.
4. CHARACTERISTICS
The Sochagota Lake covers an area of
1.6 km, with a volume of water stored
in 4.5 million M3. It is fed by the
quebrada El Salitre and other minor
tributaries located in the West of the
Lake.
