1. Energy Challenges
Energy challenges are the programs for savings the electrical energy in every campus.
Because the supply of electrical energy is really needed in the processes of learning in
campus, Andalas University had made the Decree Letter No. 44/UN16.R/IG/2012 about The
Savings of Energy at Andalas University.
This Decree Letter told us about :
I. For all employees of the University of Andalas really realize and maximum the
implement of energy savings at Andalas University in order to support the program of
energy savings and the national programs of energy savings.
II. This saving programs are carried out at all of the unit work or faculties at the Andalas
University. The steps are :
1. The Savings of Lights
 During the day or in the work hours, as far as possible, off the lights
that had the enough natural lighting (sun lighting)
 To get that enough natural lighting, open the curtain or the window, so
the sun light can come and make the room bright.
 After the work hours, don’t forget to turn off the lights
2. The Savings of Air Conditioner (AC)
 During the day or in the work hours, as far as possible the air
conditioner only use in the room those really need the using of air
conditioner.
 After the work hours, don’t forget to turn off the air conditioner.
 During the air conditioner turn on, set the tempetarature that necessary.
3. The Savings of Water
 Water is only used to support the activities of the office, and turn off
the tap if does not use.
 Not allowed to use water instead to support the activities of the office,
for example, used to wash vehicles and other activities that are not
related to the activities of the office.
4. The Savings and Restrictions of Telephone Usage
 The telephone only use for the activities that related to the official
duties
 Provision of telephone connections is limited to the Office of Echelons
II, and office / other officer because the needed of the job
 Do the monitoring by the supervisor / person in charge of the room, for
every point / telephone number that can access to the outside (external).
If a point / phone number out of the ordinary usage fee, so do checking

2. on the intended use (eg by printing the evidence of use), carried the
admonition and when deemed necessary to do the blocking (can not be
used to make calls to the outside).
5. The savings and usage restrictions of tools/equipment/ supplies that use
electrical energy.
 The tools/equipment/supplies that use electrical energy (computer,
printer, fax, photocopy machine, etc) only use to support the task and
used as effectively and efficiently
 Not allow to use the tools/equipment/supplies not to supporting the
activities of the office, such as computers, printers, and copy machines
that used for personal purposes.
 After the work hours and when not in use, don’t forget to turn off or
unplugged outlet electricity of the tools/equipment/supplies which uses
the electrical energy.
 For the using of lift as the vertical circulation between floors :
i. entirely operated only during peak hours;
ii. other than peak hours, in order to operate as necessary;
iii. so turned off after office hours;
6. The Savings of Fuel and Usage Restrictions of Vehicles / Transportation of
Office Equipment
 Vehicle / conveyance services, operating only are used for official
interest.
 Procurement and provision of fuel and other materials (eg: oil
lubricant) to the shareholders of vehicle / conveyance service to be
done as effectively and efficiently as possible, by saving and giving
way to a truly deserved.
7. Saving and Energy Restrictions on the day / Overtime Hours
 The entire lighting (except the street lights), air conditioning, water,
external telephone, facilities/ equipment that uses electrical energy are
not allowed to be used on the days/hours of overtime, unless it has
received permission from the competent authority in each environment
8. In order to keep the campus green, is expected to be minimized protective tree
felling trees exception the condition whre the tress actually had to be cut down
9. The use of office stationery like paper and others, which are used as efficiently
as possible and not excessive in use.
III. The other officers and security personnel together to also monitor the implementation
of energy savings in their work unit.
