2. What is the Cell Cycle?
In the process of preparing for cellular division,
every cell goes through four basic phases.
• G1 – Growth phase 1. Cellular growth, preparation
for DNA Replication, regulation of cell cycle.
• S – Synthesis phase. DNA Replication occurs.
• G2 – Growth phase 2. Cellular growth, preparation
for nuclear division (mitosis), regulation of cell
cycle.
• M – Mitosis phase. Mitosis and cytokinesis occur,
resulting in two new daughter cells when
complete.
