Application Re - Engineering
Client:
The client is a provider of enterprise product solution for multichannel catalog
publishing, Product Information Management (PIM), Master Data Management (MDM),
and Enterprise Workflow Management (EWM). With a broad suite of cross-media
solutions and a professional implementation staff, the client helps companies to create
new revenue opportunities and build competitive strengths by managing and
communicating product and brand information with accuracy, speed, and consistency
through all media.
Business challenges of the client
The client decided to reengineer its existing product suite to meet the following goals:
- Adaptable and Expandable to high-end enterprise markets
- Enable the product suite as packaged solution rather than hosted solution
- Web-Enabled and scalable platform with newer technology.
- Interoperability with enterprise applications.
The client devised an implementation strategy based on Service-Oriented Architecture
(SOA) using C#/.Net and SQL Server technologies. The client also adopted Request for
Proposal (RFP) approach to select an outsourcing vendor to execute the reengineering
project.
Project Scope
Solution required legacy product migration and cross platform integration using Java &
.Net technologies.
OFS Solution
OFS’s technical team carefully studied the entire existing system and created a
component-based layered architecture to suit the present and future needs of the
client. Existing thick client technology was replaced with the cutting-edge technology to
facilitate universal access. The newly developed C#.Net solution is also integrated with
an external system developed in Java.
OFS designed a web-based multi-browser multi–channel product information
management and publishing suite that provides flexibility, ease-of-use and cost
reduction to the customers. This suite had the functionalities of managing all product
information, digital assets and product pricing centrally. This also had the feature of a
real-time view of a publication’s data for use by an external In Design plug-in or Quark
Xpress Extension. This solution also helped the customers to cut-down the cost on
processing the information.
