Build a positive learning environment

− Build a positive student-teacher relationship by learning about my
students including their interests, as well as their strengths and
     weaknesses.
− Build positive peer relations within the class by explaining to students
about the value of respecting other’ s perspectives, as a means to
     betterment.
− Students will be encouraged to participate in school and community
     activities with others.

Maintain the positive environment

− Remind students about respecting others and give warnings to the class.
− Speak with individuals privately about why they do not feel comfortable.
− Speak to individuals about the impact that their actions are having on
others and how they might act differently to be a better classmate.
− Students who choose to harm classroom relations will be excluded from
activities and will be assigned independent work to be done in class
until they choose to contribute. The year-level co-coordinator will be
     notified.
− If further action is needed, I would consult with the year-level co-
coordinator about how to deal with the situation, as at this point, the
issue will be one that requires punishment and will most likely mean
that the student has some more significant issues.
Consequences must be proportionate and logical!

As you can see my approach to creating a positive learning environment is
incremental in nature. Once physical security is assured, I believe in taking a
proactive approach to a establishing an inclusive classroom by building a
positive relationship based on respect for diversity of opinion, rather than fear
of punishment.
