This document proposes giving students more flexibility with school uniforms. It discusses how uniforms can be an financial burden on parents and make students uncomfortable in hot weather. The proposal is for the Ministry of Education to change the national school uniform policy to allow students to wear any decent attire, similar to policies at public universities. This would alleviate costs for parents while still having dress guidelines. A case study from 2003 found no evidence uniforms increase academic achievement. Abolishing uniforms would allow students to express themselves as part of learning.
