Kurt Schlichting, Professor of Sociology, Annaliese Reynolds, Student, and Ken Gilberg, Student, Fairfield University Historical Digital Newport, RI is a collaboration between Fairfield University and the Redwood Library, Newport. The project uses GIS to recreate the historic street patterns in 1880. The geocoded 1880 Census records are added to the digital map locating residents to their historical addresses. Photos and historic materials from the Redwood Library and the Newport Historical Society are linked to interpret the spatial structure and social organization of the city in the late 19th century.
