Present study is aimed to assess the extent of
smartphone use and physical ailments associated with
smartphone use among college students of selected
colleges in nagpur city with a view to prepare a phamplet
on prevention.

Demographic variables:-
In this study the demographic variables include :-age,
gender, type of family, income, occupation of father,
occupation of mother, religion, course of study, duration of
smartphone use, reason to use smartphone, and self
evaluation of smartphone addiction.
11. SETTING
The study was conducted in the priyadarshni (Engineering and Architecture)
and Lata mangeshkar (Bsc Nursing ) colleges of Nagpur city.
POPULATION
The population for the study included all students between the age group of
17-24 years studying in selected colleges of Nagpur city which meet the
designated set of criteria that the researchers have established.
SAMPLE SIZE
A sample of 225 students between the age group pf 17-24 years studying in
selected colleges of Nagpur city.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
The non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select the
colleges for the study
Quota sampling was used to select the samples.
12. CRITERIA FOR SAMPLE SELECTION
Inclusive criteria:
College students who were-
Having their own smartphone
In the age group of 17-24 years
Able to read and write english or hindi language
Available at the time of data collection
Willing to participate in the study
Exclusive criteria
College students who were-
Not having their own smartphone
On leave at the time of data collection.

Structured questionnaire to collect the demographic data.
TOOL 2
Modified smartphone addiction proneness scale to
assess the extent of smartphone usage.
TOOL 3
Structured questionnaire to assess the physical ailments
associated with smartphone use.
14. Frequency and percentage distribution was used to
analyze the demographic variable.
Mean and standard deviation was used to assess the
extent of smartphone use.
Chi- square was used to find out the association of
physical ailments and extent of smartphone use with
selected demographic variables.
15. This chapter basically deals with the analysis and
interpretation of the data collected from 225 samples,
taken from adolescent girls and boys of selected
colleges of Nagpur city; to assess the extent of
smartphone use and physical ailments associated with
it. The data collected from samples were tabulated;
analysed and interpreted using descriptive and
inferential statistics.
Analysis and interpretation were based on objectives of
the study and presented under the following sections:-

college students of selected colleges of Nagpur city.
Section C:-Analysis of physical ailments associated with extent of

ailments associated with extent of smartphone use and
selected demographic variables.
Section F:-Analysis of association between extent of
smartphone usage and physical ailments associated with
extent of smartphone use .

This section analyses data regarding the demographic
variables of the samples. the sample of the study consist of 225
adolescent girls and boys between the age group 17-24 years
studying in selected colleges of Nagpur city. the demographic
variables include age, gender, type of family, monthly family
income, occupation of father, occupation of mother, religion, course
of study, duration of smartphone use in years, reason to use
smartphone mostly, self evaluation of smartphone addiction. The
data were analysed using frequency and percentage.

40. A similar study can be repeated on a large sample size using
probability sampling technique.
A comparative study can be under taken to assess the level of
smartphone addiction and physical ailments associated with it
among adolescent girls and boys studying in selected colleges of
Nagpur city.
41. The study was conducted within a limited geographical area and
sample and hence the data was not suggestive of the general
population characteristics.
The investigators could not control the extraneous variables affecting
physical ailments or the peer pressure on the study samples over the
data.
The study involved observation of physical ailments as perceived by
the samples themselves and thus had a chance for misinterpretation
of the characteristics.
Non –probability convenient sampling technique was used for
selecting colleges for the study which limits the general liability of
the study.
