Sexism Against Women
Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, commonly towards women, on the basis of their sex. Sexism is still present in today's society,
especially against women. There are many ways as to how people are sexist towards women. The three places that sexism against women is a big issue:
the media, pop culture and the sports industry. Some people do not allow women the same opportunities that men have just because they are women.
By creating sexism in these places, people are treating women unfairly and with disrespect. The stereotypes that are created by women paints a certain
image of women that people believe to be true. The media is especially known for creating unrealistic images of women.
One place where sexism against women is present is in the media. Women are portrayed a certain way in advertisements, like TV commercials. The
author of the book, book title, stated that, "according to advertisers, women drink iced tea and eat yogurt, salads, chocolate and cake", (DiAngelo and
Sensoy, 86). This statement paints a certain stereotype of women based on the things that they eat. It is a known fact that all women do not have the
same diet and do not eat all the same foods, so it is weird that advertisers say that all women eat the foods that they mentioned. In today's society, social
media is now a big part of the category media. An article was written on the topic of sexism involving Twitter. The article mentions how hashtags that
are used on twitter are sexist.

The Legal Standard Is Intermediate Scrutiny
I represent BAE, Respondent, and I respectfully request that the court affirm the decision of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit which
upheld BAE's exclusion of Frynee from BAE on the basis of her gender.
Issue: Did BAE discriminate against Frynee in violation of her right to equal protection of the laws under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution?
The legal standard is intermediate scrutiny. In order to disprove negligence, the challenged classification must serve an important state interest and is at
least substantially related to serving that interest.
This case involves a female student that is unable to attend an all–boys school. Cases that deal with gender discrimination are subject to intermediate
scrutiny.

When the DOE representative was sorting students into schools, there were no more seats left available in BAE, so she was placed in NWA. The DOE
was not aware of Frynee's gender when they made this decision. Frynee's parents filed a lawsuit against the NYC Department of Education and BAE
alleging that they violated her rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Easter District of New
York ruled that the NYC DOE and BAE did violate Frynee's right by denying her admission to BAE. The NYC DOE and BAE appealed to the United
States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where the ruling of the Eastern District of New York was reversed. Frynee Fisher appealed to the
Supreme Court of the United States.
1) BAE being an all boys school served an important government interest because it boosted the academic performance of boys, and bridged the gap
between them and the girls. 2) Statistics show that boys at BAE are thriving academically. 3) BAE did not generalize boys and girls.
4) Frynee primarily wanted to attend BAE in order to play football. BAE offered a solution to that by allowing her to practice and coach the football
team.
5) The DOE did not know Frynee's gender when they decided to not place her in BAE.

Essay on Anne Fausto-Sterling's "The Five Sexes"
Exploring the Social Standards of Sex and Gender
There are several sources that tell a person how to be a man or woman. Science tells us by recognizing the X or Y chromosomes. The media shows us
through the physically ideal celebrities that grace the covers of magazines and flaunt their bodies in commercials. Sports, wrestling, cars, and blue for
the boys. Dresses, make–up, painted nails, and pink for the girls. All of these sources, as well as others, have evolved into an expectation that has
become institutionalized within society. This expectation, is placement and belonging into the binary system of person: the man or the woman. In Anne
Fausot–Sterling's acrticles "The Five Sexes" and the "The Five Sexes, Revisited", the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the genders male and female, there is also intersexed. Within that group of intersexed, there are subgroups. Fausto–Sterling explains this in her
"The Five Sexes: Why Male and Female are Not Enough": Firstly, the term "intersex" is used in medical literature to describe the "so–called true
hermaphrodite" (possesses one testis and one ovary), "the male pseudohermaphrodite" (possess testes and some aspects of the female genitalia, but no
ovaries), and "female pseudohermaphadites" (possess ovaries and some aspects of the male genitalia but lack testes). I had no idea that there were
subgroups to the "intersexed".
Due to social conformity, along with the advancement of technology and surgical procedure intersexed persons are aimed to be "fixed" at birth.
Although otherwise healthy, there is a need to perform surgery on the baby in order to remove certain sexual organs that don't fit with the perfect idea
of what a girl or boy should look like. This often leaves scars, and the psychological and emotional confusion along with it. "The Five Sexes Revisited"
focused on the importance of therapy over surgery. Medical ethicist Laurence B. McCullough of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at
Baylor Collefe of Medicine in Houston, Texas "contend[ed] that in the process of assigning gender, physicians should minimize what he calls
irreversible assignments: taking steps such as the surgical removal

Gender Stereotypes Opinions Regarding Gender Segregation...
Through the model female forebears' endeavor, nowadays, women have obtained an impartial position in most areas, including higher education, skilled
occupation and even politics. Title IX of the Civil Rights Law Act, states " No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from
participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial
assistance" ( U.S. department of education, 2015) . However, it became clear that women have approached a new battle of campaigning gender

Education has always been a popular topic. How can education make students better is the core of the topic. My thesis focuses on single–sex school
which aims to develop a more equal environment for students. In addition to the instruction ,this research paper is divided into four parts:The first part
explores why some areas carry out single–sex education. The second part illustrates the general implementation of the single –sex schools .The third
part elaborates the advantages and dis advantages about single–sex schools. The fourth part includes people's attitude towards single–sex schools and
how should we do with it.With a long history ,single– sex schools are worth study.

Pros And Cons Of Co Education
Nowadays, it seems like more and more people are pushing to put kids in public schools in segregated classes. Not by race this time, but by gender.
This has been a common practice in private schools for a while, but is just now being pushed to public schools. There are many pros and cons to both
sides, but even though single gender classes do have some merits, co education helps development, leaves students with the same grades, and is much
easier to operate.
Co education helps develop minds and brains more. Many leaders and proponents of single sex schools claim that isolating genders helps the mind
grow more, but this is a blatant lie. In a Washington Post article, "the idea that kids develop social skills better is laughable to many leading

Single Gender Schools vs. Coeducational Schools
Children that attend single gender schools are rich. Children that attend coed schools are poor. Children that attend single gender schools are well
behaved. Children that attend coed schools are defiant. Will there ever be an end to these stereotypical comments? What is most important is that as
long as the child feels comfortable in the right learning environment. It seems that today, this is being misinterpreted.
Amanda Perkins is in third grade and attends a single gender school in Foley, Alabama. Recently she has transitioned from a coeducational school to a

Most of Joshua's teachers have boys work with girls in groups or partners when projects to do assignments. Joshua likes that the teachers bring the boys
and girls together so that way they can collaborate and share ideas with each other. Joshua feels that girls can be creative as much as boys can. Joshua
feels that a coeducational school is much better than a single gender school. Furthermore, both of the environments are beneficial to a student that
adapts to it better. Single gender could be beneficial, coeducational could be beneficial, but there must be an understanding that children are unique
individuals and deserves what best fits them.
Students in single gender schools break out of their gender roles. According to Jeanne Sather, Magnet Schools of America Conference, "supporters of
same–sex education say it builds confidence and helps students concentrate on their work by removing the distractions of dating and other social
pursuits." The goal that teachers want students to reach is to endure as much learning as they can. Boys and girls become more open–minded when it
comes to choosing subjects in single gender schools as if they were switching gender roles. Females refer more to masculine activities and males refer
to feminine activities (Andre). Single gender schools teach students how to expand their subject choices. Effective teaching of children

Gender Bias in Education
Gender bias has existed in education since the inception of schooling. According to the National Women's History Museum (NWHM), during the
1700's, women were denied access to secondary schooling, and were only given the most basic education deemed necessary to fulfill the "women's
duties" (NWHM 1). Research from the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education (NCWGE) has shown that when Title IX was introduced
in 1972, girls were able to participate in any state–funded activity, resulting in protest from those who believed gender bias did not exist (NCWGE 1).
The opposition argued that girls are just different from boys, and incapable of doing the same things. The gender bias in schools across America, since
the conception of schooling, has led to hardships and stereotypes faced by females in education and society. During the 1700's, the education of women
was basic. Some girls were taught how to read, strictly to read the Bible, and they were taught skills considered useful, like knitting, sewing, and other
household duties. It was considered strange and undesirable for a woman to be well educated. As the 1800's began, female academies began to be
formed, which provided women with a similar education to men, teaching math, writing, reading, and history, but separate of the opposite gender.
Heading into the 1900's, African American women were finally Higgins 2 given a proper education, although separate of whites (NWHM 3). With the
creation of Title IX in

Human Sex Ratio At Birth
Introduction According to the statistical predictions and Mendelian law of segregation applied to X and Y chromosomes, the numbers of boys and girls
born are supposed to be equal, so the sex ratio for humans is expected to be 50:50 (1). However, in the real world, the observed results do not follow
this pattern; the actual values can be as high as 170 boys born to 100 girls (2). The major reason that supposedly causes such imbalance in human sex
ratio at birth is that more male embryos tend to survive throughout pregnancy (3).
The reason why it is happening is not definitive. The big problem is that not a lot of a research has been done in this area. Most of the works only
confirm the idea of male prevalence at birth, however, there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(4)The idea of statistical chance can be eliminated – the imbalance in sex ratio at birth is observed throughout the history, so there definitely should be
some mechanism that induces production of more male embryos than female. Such a trend has been observed not only in humans but among mammals
in general (5).
Another idea explaining male–biased sex ratio imbalance at birth has to deal with female after birth survival advantage (1). The sex ratio from birth to
death is gradually turning the opposite direction: decreasing in males and increasing in females ratios. By the age of 100 there are about four women to
every man (1). Even though female fetuses are assumed to be less likely to survive during pregnancy, after birth males suffer more fatal disease, take
more mortal risks, and are exposed to more violences than girls. By the time these kids reach their reproduction age, the sex ratio comes to about 1:1.
Based on this trend, it could be evolutionary adaptive to produce more males in order to fix the sex ratio by the time of the new reproduction wave in
order to regulate the size of population and to have equal parental expenditure (6). That means that this pattern has been naturally selected for and
passed and inherited through generations. However, this idea does not explain the mechanism of this inheritance.
The key to solve this problem might be hidden in genetics. The crucial difference between human males and

No such thing as "Separate but Equal" in Education
One of the most common question for parents when it comes to choosing high schools or college for their child is "Should girls and boys be taught
separately, either in different classes or entirely differently schools, to improve their educational performances, or is such an approach a throwback to a
teaching method that was discredited years ago" (Update: Single–Sex Education). In the past, it was more common for boys and girls to be educated
separately just like most private schools today. In the 1990s, concerns over the academic progress of both girls and boys lead the increase in number of

If boys and girls are not taught how to interact on anything other than a social level, single–sex school does not prepare boys and girls for the real adult
world.
I feel as if it is important that boys and girls socialize in school to discourage gender stereotypes in the future. Supporters argue that single–sex
schooling eliminates gender stereotypes, but I disagree. Single–sex schooling reinforces gender stereotypes. According to studies, "single–sex
schooling reinforces stereotyped notions of how boys and girls should behave, and deprive students of important preparation for the real, coeducational
worlds of work and family" (Update: Single–Sex Education 2002). In my opinion, school is suppose to the "workplace" for children, and by separating
boys and girls increases gender stereotyping in adulthood by depriving students of the opportunity to interact daily as peers during formative years.
Studies show that when children are separated by gender, they tend to start discriminating and start accepting more gender stereotypes. "Segregating
students by gender can lead to greater gender discrimination and make it harder to deal with the opposite sex later in life" (Update: Single–Sex
Education 2008). Another gender based serotypes single–sex schools promote is that Boys tend to be taught in a more regimented, traditional, and
individualistic fashion and girls in more

Public Schools Vs. Public School System Essay
Education in the United States has been constantly changing with modern views evolving over our nation's historical timeline. These changes have
always leaned towards making education more accessible and inherently equal for everyone. Starting in the mid 1600's educational facilities were only
available to certain social classes with sons who showed promise of entering a leadership role with the church, state, or courts (Sass, 2016). Gender
separated facilities were the norm and the idea of opening a facility to accommodate both genders was absurd. Currently, public education is
predominantly a coeducational environment with only 500 public schools nationwide providing gender separate classes (Eliot, 2013, p. 364). In the last
few decades, however, the idea of having gender separate classes within a coeducational public school system has become quite the controversy.
Argumentative statements are being made from both sides with regard to brain development, stereotyping, learning preferences, and equal opportunity.
Looking into our nation's history, we can see the journey taken in order to create the integrated coeducational public school systems we have now. The
question presented to our current public school system is whether or not reverting back to gender separated education is in fact beneficial to the
students. One of the leading arguments for gender separate classrooms is the brain development difference between girls and boys. Supporters of

What Is Glass Ceiling?
The concept of glass ceiling emphasizes situations in which individuals (typically females and other minorities) are unable to advance and attain a
higher management level position in their professions, due to invisible barriers and subtle biases in the workplace. The imperceptible nature of glass
ceiling highlights such partialities, as it occurs because of the "culture" of a workplace rather than explicit discrimination. Thus, glass ceiling may not
be a matter of simply one's race, but more so the kind of "comfort, chemistry, relationships and collaborations" (Kimmel and Holler 2011) that exist in
the workplace. While there may be many reasons to why glass ceiling occurs, it is primarily due to the unconscious effort by members of a company to
maintain the existing atmosphere of a workplace.
Glass escalator refers to the phenomenon in which non–traditional members in a particular profession (typically men in female–dominated fields)
rapidly rise to the top of the hierarchy. Men encounter positive discrimination when it comes to entering female–dominated fields, as even though they

hierarchal division of genders in the same profession, according to the difference of skill, experience, and education; this is worse for women, as it

The Issue Of Public Single Sex Education Essay
The interest in public single–sex education has increased in the recent years as schools are piled with more pressure to increase their grades and keep
teaching method fresh. It's an old approach to the education but its gaining momentum in public schools as it has been the method in most private
schools. According to the report by National Association for Single Sex Education, over two hundred public schools across the United States offer
single–sex classrooms. Most public schools are venturing into single–sex education despite some objections that the classes perpetuate gender
stereotypes. Most co–ed schools offer at least one single–sex class and according to the experts, the number has risen since 2006,when the US
Education Department passed new rules making it easier for school to establish such classes across the country.
The driving force to this surge is the recent research which shows that natural differences in how males and females learn. Putting this research in
practice, however has prompted a heated debate that goes beyond the pure academics bringing in play the civil rights, political, socioeconomic and
legal concerns. The debate helps us understand the sides to take as its shows the cons and pros of single–sex education system.

Boys and girls learn in two different ways. This reason is why having a single sex school is more rewarding than a co–ed school. According to Dr.
Schlosser of Breckinridge County Middle School's (Kentucky) the difference between the way boys and girls learn are the type of weather boys and

Boys also learn much slower than what girls learn, this could be a problem for girls in the same class as boys for girls would learn and to move on, but
would have to cut back their learning to wait for the boys to learn the same material. Boys also are interested in different subjects than what girls like.
Boys are most secretly interested in music, science, and math. According to GreatSchools.com says boys feel girls won't like them when they know
they are interested in other things such as music and math and not baseball, football, and soccer. Many boys won't show interest in music in a co–ed

Men and women experience working life quite differently. Wage disparities, occupational sex segregation, and gender differences in authority, for

Rights Commission (OCRC). This study contributes to the literature on gender discrimination by exploring connections between gender stereotyping
and their application across a range of workplaces. 219 cases were studied. Each woman told an event when she was discriminated with the employing
organization. To come up with individual stories, basic information on each woman, including her race and job title was noted. The type of
discrimination, stereotyping, workplace composition, and role of policy in the discrimination were also taken into consideration. Women's experiences
were labeled into seven types of discrimination, which are expulsion, exclusion, sexual harassment, other harassment, mobility, material conditions, and
working conditions. Multiple types of discrimination was permitted within any given narrative. Additional details such as age, race, disability and

Single Sex Schools : Pros And Cons Of Single Gendered Schools
Do you have friends that are the opposite gender? I am sure that at least 90% of you said yes. Have any of you had to do a group project, or a partner
project with the opposite gender? Now all of you have said yes. When kids spend time with only one gender from elementary school to high school,
they learn to only interact with their gender. They aren't used to the way the opposing gender acts, so they don't know how to understand the opposing
genders feelings and how their natural behaviour is. How are kids supposed to interact with the outside world and the opposite gender if they are forced
to only interact with one gender for 5 days a week? These schools should be banned because of how they lack communication with the opposing
genders. Single gendered schools are separate schools for each gender. There are all boys schools and all girls schools. Single gendered schools have

nothing worked. She had finally found out about single sex schools. "As soon as I read a little bit about a single sex school, I called my parents" states
Hallik. She once felt like she had no other option, but a single sex school made the rest of her school life. We need single sex schools. Kids are feeling

Certainty of subject matter and the critcisms of hunter v moss

Certainty of subject matter is where there must be an identification of the trust property and certainty as to whom is which part of the trust property to

However in Re Golay the court looked at the tester's intention'. To deduce what 'reasonable income' meant
Oliver J articulated the orthodox approach or rule in re London wine where property must be segregated form a lager mass of similar property for there
to be a valid trust he said "To create a trust it must be possible to ascertain with certainty not only what the interest of the beneficiary is to be but to
what property it is to attach." "The 'mere declaration that a given number of animals out of the flock would be held on trust would not create a trust'.
This approach was followed in re Goldcorp which affirmed that property must be separately identifiable before it can be held on a valid trust.
The contention arose with Hunter v Moss which did not follow the orthodox approach where Hunter was entitled 50 out of moss's 1000 shares. Under
the Goldcorp rule there would be no trust because the property was not separated however Dillon J said there was a valid trust. The rationale for this
controversial decision was that it would have made no difference which 50 shares would have been given because they were all identical. So here there
was no need to segregate the property if it was intangible.
The problem with this case is that Dillon is giving the trustee of the will who only has legal title subject to the terms of the trust an executor status, i.e.
putting him in the shoes of the sethlow. This is a problem because the executor acquires legal

the diverse desires of ladies in regards to the harmony amongst family unit and market work. Different powers for change have emerged from
migration, both genuine and illegal, and from various birthrates among racial/ethnic gatherings. The outcome has been an articulated and proceeding
with change in the blend of gatherings in the work drive (Ehrenberg and Smith, p 393). We cannot preclude the nearness of oppression ladies and
minorities in the work advertise. Before outlining strategies to end separation, nonetheless, we must comprehend the sources and instruments causing it.

Not all states set every one of these limitations on ladies, yet the impact of these laws was to confine the entrance of ladies to numerous employments.
These laws were upset by the Equal Pay Act of 1963, which additionally prohibited separate pay scales for men and ladies utilizing comparable
aptitudes and performing work under similar conditions (Ehrenberg and Smith, p 425). The demonstration was genuinely lacking as an
antidiscrimination instrument, be that as it may, in light of the fact that it said nothing in regards to rise to circumstance in enlisting and advancements.
This defect can be effectively comprehended by a brisk survey of our speculations of separation. On the off chance that there is partiality against ladies
from whatever source, bosses will regard female representatives as less beneficial or more exorbitant to employ than similarly profitable guys. The
market reaction is for female wages to fall beneath male wages, on the grounds that, something else, ladies can't would like to have the capacity to
effectively contend with men in acquiring employments. The Equal Pay Act stepped toward the disposal of wage differentials, however in this manner,
it had a tendency to smother a market system that helped ladies acquire more noteworthy access to employments. The demonstration neglected to
recognize that if work advertise separation is to be disposed of, enactment must require both equivalent pay and equivalent open doors in procuring and
advancements for individuals of practically identical profitability (Ehrenberg and Smith, p 425). The total hours workers wish to work at for a real wage

Gender Roles And Sex Segregation In The United States
Gender roles play a huge part in society. Gender plays a role in shaping an individuals identify and beliefs. It also helps identify what is masculine and
what is feminine. Certain tasks, duties, and jobs are classified by gender. However, gender appropriate behavior should not be enforced in our society
for numerous reasons and can be seen on an individual level and be demonstrated by social learning theory and sex segregation. Within and across
different cultures, we can find great consistency in standards of anticipated gender roles. In the United States, like many other countries, males are
expected to be independent, assertive, and competitive. Females are expected to be more passive, sensitive, and supportive. For example, when a
woman gives birth, she is the one that is expected to stay home and take care of her children while the father goes to work and is the breadwinner for
the family. In society, it is more acceptable and common to see the women stay home and take care of the house and children while the husband goes to
work instead of the other way around. Stay at home dads are not as common as stay at home moms. However, it is up to the individuals on what they
decide as a couple. Because of this, gender appropriate behaviors can be seen because of sex segregation and starting at young ages. Sex Segregation,
according to Erving Goffman (1977) is far from total, and is a more complex and dynamic process than the portrayal of separate worlds. He

Sex Segregation
Sex segregation is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor force. Throughout history, women have been socially and professionally
unequal to men. Women were expected to be confined to the home in order to take care of the children and do the required chores, while the man of the
house was granted the luxury of experiencing the world by working to provide for the family. "Women were long considered naturally weaker than
men, squeamish, and unable to perform work requiring muscular or intellectual development. This ignored the fact that caring for children and doing
such tasks as milking cows and washing clothes also required heavy, sustained labor." (Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia, 1994) Today, women are

As girls grow up, they are expected to wear "girl" colors, watch "girl" shows, play with "girl" toys. The same affect occurs for boys when look at the
separation of masculinity and femininity. One of the first solutions to be made in order to correct sex segregation in the workplace is by properly
educating students on the labor market. Due to the fact that women are already disadvantaged when it comes to education, a stride needs to be made
when focusing on career education. We continue to bolster sex segregation by limiting women's interest, knowledge and preparation for occupations
that have been predominantly labeled male. Another solution to this societal issue could be the implementation of a critical mass throughout male
dominant occupations. This would

Gender Inequality And Gender Equality
Introduction
Equality is a major topic of discussion amongst academics and the wider population as a whole. Different groups have been fighting for equal rights in
many different ways in many different organisations, with varying success for the last century and beyond. In a business/managerial sense, there is
much debate about the gaps between certain social groups regarding the roles in which they occupy within an organisation, with a considerable amount
of literature focussing on the space between men and women, namely the gender pay gap and 'the glass ceiling'.
This literature review will identify and discuss influential points of views of those that are leaders in the topic area of gender equality in the work place
with a view of finding common themes and how the debate has moved on in recent years. The review will then look to critically analyse the research of
these specific areas in order to find possible gaps in the research.
Theme 1–Occupational segregation
Blackwell states that 8% of the overall gender wage gap can be accounted for through occupational segregation by sex (Blackwell, 2001). Occupational
segregation is an important theory to take into consideration when writing about the gap between men and women's pay. It is possible to separate
occupational segregation into two different fields of thought, these are horizontal and vertical. Horizontal segregation is the extent to which males and
females choose to pursue different careers. An example would be the

Single Sex Schools Are Effective Or Ineffective
Single Sex Schools Affect Many People Have you ever heard of single sex schools? If yes, do you think it's a good idea? Single sex schools are schools
that either have all male students or all female students only. Many people have different kinds of opinions towards these types of schools. There have
been many debates on whether single–sex schools are effective or ineffective. These schools have different effects on people. Single sex schools should
be discontinued because it will affect students in their relationships, their learning skills, their emotions as well as be a problem in segregation between
schools. Single sex schools have been around for many years now. According to Janice Streitmatter, the author of the book "For Girls Only: Making a
Case For Single–sex Schools" informs that single–sex schools were present before for women's arts but now they focus to provide experience for the
competitive world. (Page 25) These schools help provide students with a distraction free zone to focus more in their studies. When students are at
school they have nothing to distract them because they don't have their "crush" there to keep them from paying attention. Single–sex schools have
proven to be effective according to many researchers. Janice Streitmatter, a researcher, shows a research where students who attended single–sex
schools always score higher in their exams than students who attend coed schools. In another research she explains the outcomes on

Creation and Perpetuation of An Unjust Workplace
The injustices of the world have taken many forms throughout history and yet nothing seems to have been learned from past mistakes. Still practices
are found in place, held down by archaic beliefs and perceived privileges. In a world were everything often comes back to the mighty dollar it should be
of no surprise that inequality runs rampant among the workplace. These workplace injustices are seen practiced through an assortment of fashions, be it
through harassment, bullying or discrimination. It uses the sociodemographic characteristics of these people or persons to impose limitation and

Sadly, once again these problems are often isolated to the female persuasion. More troubling though is that minority women report even a higher
amount of sexual harassment than non–minority women, with African American and Native American experiencing the highest degree (Krieger,

Ehrenreich in her book, there are clear institutional structures at work to oppress and remove autonomy not only from women but the working person
(Ehrenreich). She described her work at Walmart as a sort of regression. She was no longer Barbra owner of a Ph.D. but Barb clothing sorter of
Walmart. As of the moment, much emphasis has been placed on the interpersonal aspects of workplace injustice. To ensure that all aspects of an unjust

The Negative Effects Of Gender Roles
To put it in simpler terms, gender roles are basically a generalization that is made about the roles or behavior that is deemed appropriate based on
gender. CNN releases an article by Emanuella Grinberg and Victoria Larned on September 20, 2017 that discusses how gender roles directly affect both
boys and girls in their childhood and adolescence. The authors provide examples of generalizations made about both males and females. Study was
made that concentrated on the health inequities that stemmed from gender roles. The digital news writers suggest that enforcing gender roles can lead
individuals to feel the need to conform, to have low self–esteem, and fear ostracism. It is proposed that children and teens should be advised about sex,
relationships, and identity at an earlier age to reduce the impact made from enforcing these gender stereotypes. Based on the research and study, efforts
should be made to reduce the negative effects of gender roles on society. Keywords: stereotypes, gender roles, generalizations
Many have conducted research and studies on the idea of the gender roles, and center their focus on the evolutionary aspect, how boys differ from girls,
or how people are greatly influenced by them. However, an article written by two digital news writers, Emanuella Grinberg and Victoria Larned, put the
spotlight on the mental and health problems that arise in society as consequences of enforcing these generalizations. Knowledge on the

peers in their classes show higher enrollment rates in both advanced math and science classes, but overall benefits were found in all grades for both
sexes. Prof. Schlosser found that primary–school classrooms with a female majority showed increased academic success for both boys and girls, along
with a notable improvement in subjects like science and math. In the middle schools, girls were found to have better academic achievement in English,
languages and math. And in high school, the classrooms which had the best academic achievements overall were consistently those that had a higher
proportion of girls enrolled. A higher percentage of girls lowers the amount of classroom disruption and fosters a better relationship between pupils and
their teacher, a study of the data suggests. Teachers are less tired in classrooms with more girls, and pupils overall seem to be more satisfied when a
high female–to–male ratio persists. Prof. Schlosser was inspired to the study by a "renewed interest on the effects of classroom gender composition on

The Psychology Of Gender And Gender

The Psychology of Gender By appreciating how sex differences emerge – rather than assuming them to be fixed biological facts – we can help all
children reach their fullest potential. "In the past decade, people have heard a lot about the innate differences between males and females. People have
come to accept that ' Boys can't focus in a classroom and girls are obsessed with relationships.' That's just the way that they were built."(Eliot 1). Boys
and girls, while having much in common, are also very different in their thoughts and mental aspects. Psychological gender differences could provide

"Infant brains are so malleable that small differences at birth become amplified over time, as parents, teachers, peers––and culture at large––unwittingly
reinforce gender stereotypes."(Eliot 104). Gender stereotypes start to form the moment a newborn baby's gender is found. If the baby is a girl, many
parents will immediately begin to decorate a pink nursery with soft decor such as butterflies. They will fill toy boxes with dolls as well. What this is
doing, though most parents don't realize it, is setting up their daughter to be the typical stereotypical woman. Other common stereotypes put on women
is that they are weaker than men, not supposed to be politicians, not supposed to play sports, supposed to be submissive, do housework, and supposed
to raise children. Stereotyping is no different with a boy. The nursery is decked in blue and the theme is something tough like jungle animals or
dinosaurs. Boys' toys generally consist of action figures, dinosaurs and video games. From the beginning, boys are taught to be tough. Many parents do
not teach their boys how to wash the dishes or the laundry. Instead, boys are taught to take out the trash and mow the lawn. This is part of the stereotype
that men are supposed to do any work that requires muscle. Other stereotypes about men are that they are the top of the household, they are the the only

Dana Hall College Essay
Dana–Hall, is a well known and respected all–girl boarding and day school (6–12 grade) competing in a time period in which social attitudes towards
single sex education is shrinking. Measures of demographics and social trends indicate a clear shift towards a co–educational school environment. This
new reality, where demand is decreasing faster than supply, results in declining numbers of potential female applicants over which the last four all–girl
boarding and day schools are aggressively competing to maintain continues enrolment figures. Other former all–girl schools have either moved to
admit boys or merged with better–funded boys schools to avoid bankruptcy. On top of these constraints, and in direct relation, Dana–Hall is also ...

Full enrolment implied a student body of approximately 450; however, Dana–Hall didn't experience such a case since the 1980s (numbers reaching not
more than 374). Opening the doors to male applicants would fill the empty/missing positions and push financial performance to full capacity. Dana–
Hall could also consider a merger with a boy's school. However, it is unlikely that the institute will find a partnership as merger opportunities dried up
since 1971, when many single–sex schools were moving towards co–education. Today only two all–boys institutes remain in the area but if one of them
would be interested, a merger providing financial and operational synergies would definitely help Dana–Hall out of its crisis.
Following this strategy, Dana–Hall not only opens the door for male applicants but also for female applicants who prefer gender integrated schools,
thereby securing the likelihood of full enrolment at all times.
However, going against its sole mission could be a slap in the face for some stakeholders, especially to those who believe that a single–sex environment
works well for their daughters. This could hurt Dana–Halls' performance and reputation in away that some parents would move their daughters to the
other competing all–girl institutes.

Issue in Texas: Gender Identify vs Biological Sex–The Bathroom Bill
There's an ongoing battle in the State of Texas over who should be allowed to use public restrooms. Specifically, which restrooms should transgenders
use. There's strong opposition to legislation regulating bathroom use. Many Texans argue we should all use restrooms based on our biological sex (sex
as stated on our birth certificates) but there is strong opposition arguing we should be able to use restrooms based on our Gender Identity (what sex one
identifies themselves as). Those against transgenders using the "wrong" restroom suggest it is potentially putting other users at risk of encountering a

Senate Bill No. 6 states that a person must use the restroom associated with their biological sex, not the restroom that conforms to the persons gender
identity. Senate Bill No. 6 was designed to protect people using public restrooms or changing rooms. The bill would apply to places that are available to
the public, or any institution receiving aid from the government. It does not apply to private businesses, schools etc. In a public setting, a transgender
would still be able to use the bathroom they prefer, but only if they get their sex changed on their birth certificate. The bill would not affect big
convention centers, stadiums, or other entertainment venues if they're not public facilities. If a private association leases out one of their venues to a
non–governmental agency, then the bill would not apply to them. Public entities choosing to not regulate bathroom policies to fit Senate Bill No. 6
could be fined from $1,000–$10,500 (Ryan). In Senate Bill No. 6 it says that if a school district, state funded program or political subdivision are not
enforcing the bathroom policy, a citizen may file a complaint to the Attorney General (Kolkhorst). First the individual must complain to the
organization that is violating Senate Bill No.6, if the institute does not address the issue within three business days, then you may file your complaint

The Gender Equality And Education
Throughout the years gender equality and education have drastically changed. Some people went through different experiences depending when or
even where a person grew up. In the United States Title IX was a big contributing factor in gender equality. "These areas are: Access to Higher
Education, Career Education, Education for Pregnant and Parenting Students, Employment, Learning Environment, Math and Science, Sexual
Harassment, Standardized Testing and Technology" (Titleix.info, History). In this project, I have interviewed three different people: A late 50s female,
an early 20s male, and an early 50s female who grew up in the Philippines. All three interviewees have had different experiences that will be compared
and contrasted into this essay. During the academic years of a late 50s female who attended school from the 1960s–1970s, before and shortly after Title
IX existed, had very different experiences compared to my other two interviewees. During this woman's elementary years, teachers had always treated
males and females differently. In kindergarten, boys had a separate corner with toys that only boys played with, and girls had another corner with toys
that only girls could play with. Neither gender was allowed to play with the other's toys. If a girl wanted to play with a G.I.JOE doll, she was not
allowed and got in trouble if she attempted to do so. Throughout most of her school years, genders were always separated in some way. With the gender

The Negative Effects Of Gender Segregation In Schools
Not only can gender separate schools change individual's perception of their own identity; they can also change the way one gender views another. In a
segregated environment, even with good intentions, children infer the groups differ in important ways and develop biases. The study of Keener, Mehta
and Strough (2013) examined the association between gender–segregated peer preferences and sexism to find out if there are negative consequences of
gender segregation in schools . The researched proved, «sexism was related to gender–segregated peer preferences at school» , especially «that gender–
segregated peer preferences are associated with sexism towards women during adolescence.» (Keener et al, 2013, p.827–828) . This finding proved that
in gender–segregated environment students can not learn from each other, of their unique differences and, thus, are more prone to having stereotyped
attitudes towards another gender . Single–sex schools cut off gender communication and confine students to one sex while interacting between each
other is a part of human nature. Benjamin Carr (2016) wrote about another study concerning gender separation and its link to bias development. This
research «assigned children to novel social groups based on t–shirt color in either segregated or integrated summer–school classrooms» and found out
that children segregated by t–shirt color developed more in–group bias than those who were integrated (p. 561) . Segregation by the color of the t–shirt

Pros And Cons Of Single Sex Schools
Single sex schools are common within the fait schools and some schools who believe there association within their faith would work out better within a
diverse atmosphere. Some believe that having single sex schools is a good idea because then boys would feel more concentrated with their school work
instead of trying to impress or compete for the girls. Parents also believe that boys would participate more and be focus with their education if girls
were not in the same class as them. As a result, single sex schools should be banned to give children the opportunity to gain a better education and
interacting with the opposite sex. Teaching boys and girls in separate classrooms it's an old approach in which has recently gained momentum. The
reason being is some debate on the fact that it reduces boys' and girls' opportunities to work together, and reinforces sex stereotypes while others
believe that single–sex schooling results in better academic outcomes. Although there has been multiple case studies to find some common ground or to
see which one is more beneficial or affective the results fluctuates.
According to Dr. Michael Gurian, Leonardo Sax and others believed that boys and girls should be taught differently and be parted from the same sex
when gaining their education. Do to their research and the books they have published many schools have in fact already started separating the children
in the classrooms. Dr.Sax, one of the believers was in fact the Executive director of the National Association of Single Sex Public Education. He was

Heredity and Sex
When analyzing the major accomplishments of the 20th century it is imperative to include the achievements in biology, which have revolutionized our
understanding of life's process and of disease. Already in the second half of the 19th century implications to future progress in the biological world
were being made. Darwin had outlined the evolution in animal species, Mendel had discovered some basic rules for inheritance, and Weissman and
other embryologists were beginning to decipher how an organism develops. (Britannica, 1) However there was one key element missing, how all these
advances were correlated? The important information that unified these three fields (heredity, evolution, and development) came at the ... Show more

Internalist studies gained importance in the 1890's to 1900 due to the success of German physiology and experimental embryologists. And the years of
1905–1915 brought a stress of heredity, where research was focused on chromosomes. (Masienschein, 458) Not one specific approach provided a full
account of sex determination, however with the convergence of different approaches a new approach was manifested, which reshaped tradition of
developmental study. (Maienschein, 458)
Thomas Hunt Morgan advocated the internalist developmental search for a theory of sex determination and production. In 1903 he concluded that both
male and females "elements" exist in all kind of eggs and they are not predetermined as being either male or female. However his evidence remained
inconclusive as to whether the nucleus or cytoplasm provided the determining influence on sex. (Maienschein, 467) Morgan acknowledge that there
were two types of sex theories, the morphological (preexistence of sex in germ cells) and physiological (individual physiological process of
development). Even in 1910 after receiving the Nobel Prize for research in sex–limited inheritance, Morgan remained declined to regard the
chromosomes as responsible for determining development. He thought they played a role, but could not see them as determinants. (467) Eventually, the
internalist set aside explicit concern about physiological

Single Gender Schools Are Better Than Coed Schools
Have you ever wondered if single–gender schools are better than coed schools? Each side has advantages, but there are also disadvantages to them. My
thoughts on this subject is coed schools aren't as supportive and beneficial as single–gender schools. I think this for many reasons, including that
single–gender schools improve student collaboration, self–improvement by not worrying about being judged by the breaking down of stereotypes, and
teachers can use better teaching techniques when teaching one gender classes. Although, some people might think otherwise, that coeducational schools
prepare students for the outside world more effectively, I think differently. In my own opinion, I indeed think that single–sex schools are better than
coed schools.
Single–gender schools improve student collaboration. Students seem to work better with the same gender. Since they are with the same gender as them,
they develop better collaboration skills and get things done faster. "We have seen many students start to focus heavily on academics," Rojas continued.
"They no longer clown or try to impress the opposite sex. Girls are more apt to answer questions aloud in class as well as ask them. Girls are learning to
be more academically competitive and boys are learning to collaborate." (Wesley Sharpe, Single–Gender Classes: Are They Better?). Meaning, boys
work better and faster when working with other boys without girls in the way and they learn more. Girls also work better and

Sex Segregation in the Workplace Essay
Why are most brain surgeons and CEO's male? Why are most secretaries and nurses female? Why not female surgeons and male nurses? These are
simple and frequent questions that can be answered by most Sociologist and Theorists. Sociologists and Theorists equate this type of job inequality
phenomenon with occupational sex segregation. Sex segregation in the workplace is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor market. In
almost every work setting, it is rare to see men and women working at the same job. When they do, they usually perform different tasks, with unequal
levels of responsibility and authority. Even when job tasks are virtually identical, it is not uncommon to find men and women allocated to distinct job ...

Employers try to maximize profits by maximizing productivity and minimizing costs to the extent possible, but because of competition and efficient
labor markets, employers pay workers their marginal product. So, this theory explains why more males than females are surgeons; because they seem to
have better opportunities for education and they tend to lack certain obligations that females have. Whereas many women find it difficult to find the
time to obtain this education because of their certain obligations life hands them, for example taking care of a family and raising children.
When explaining occupational sex segregation by sex, researchers usually distinguish labor supply and labor demand factors. Factors related to labor
supply generally focus on why women "prefer" certain types of occupation for example, women may "prefer" those with flexible hours in order to
allow time for child care, and may also "prefer" occupations which are relatively easy to interrupt for a period of time to bear or rear children.
Explanations related to labor demand focus on why employers generally "prefer" to hire women or men for particular occupations and why women and
men have different opportunities for promotion and career development within firms.
Institutional and labor market segmentation theories are another explanation for why

The issue of single–sex schools versus co–ed schools is very much debated and controversial. There are strong supporters for both sides, giving good

there are many studies that try to answer this question, the problem will probably continue to exist and be debated, the opinions being mixed. After all,

However, despite the many advantages, there are also down–sides of single–sex schools and education. Kristin Stanberry, a writer and editor
specializing in parenting, education, and consumer health/wellness issues, argues that there are many who believe that gender separation is not wise as
there aren't many instructors who are able to adapt their teaching methods and understandings to only one gender. This could lead to a worse
development and achievements, the exact opposite of what single–ed's aim is. Even more, maybe the greatest counter–argument is that this way of
education promotes discrimination and sexism. This is what many people believe, among them being the American Civil Liberties Union which even
filed a suit against a school in Kentucky for organizing single–sex classes in their institution (Single–Sex Education: the pros and cons). By attending a
single–sex school, people may develop shyness and have problems interacting with the other sex in the future, for there was no precedent during their
education.
Co–ed schools:
Unlike single–sex schools, co–ed schools are educational institutions where boys and girls are not separated, being no restrictions and no classes where
only one sex can attend. It is not a practice as old as its opponent, in the past the higher forms of education being reserved only for male students.

Sexism Against Women

  • 1. Sexism Against Women Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, commonly towards women, on the basis of their sex. Sexism is still present in today's society, especially against women. There are many ways as to how people are sexist towards women. The three places that sexism against women is a big issue: the media, pop culture and the sports industry. Some people do not allow women the same opportunities that men have just because they are women. By creating sexism in these places, people are treating women unfairly and with disrespect. The stereotypes that are created by women paints a certain image of women that people believe to be true. The media is especially known for creating unrealistic images of women. One place where sexism against women is present is in the media. Women are portrayed a certain way in advertisements, like TV commercials. The author of the book, book title, stated that, "according to advertisers, women drink iced tea and eat yogurt, salads, chocolate and cake", (DiAngelo and Sensoy, 86). This statement paints a certain stereotype of women based on the things that they eat. It is a known fact that all women do not have the same diet and do not eat all the same foods, so it is weird that advertisers say that all women eat the foods that they mentioned. In today's society, social media is now a big part of the category media. An article was written on the topic of sexism involving Twitter. The article mentions how hashtags that are used on twitter are sexist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Legal Standard Is Intermediate Scrutiny I represent BAE, Respondent, and I respectfully request that the court affirm the decision of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit which upheld BAE's exclusion of Frynee from BAE on the basis of her gender. Issue: Did BAE discriminate against Frynee in violation of her right to equal protection of the laws under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution? The legal standard is intermediate scrutiny. In order to disprove negligence, the challenged classification must serve an important state interest and is at least substantially related to serving that interest. This case involves a female student that is unable to attend an all–boys school. Cases that deal with gender discrimination are subject to intermediate scrutiny. Frynee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the DOE representative was sorting students into schools, there were no more seats left available in BAE, so she was placed in NWA. The DOE was not aware of Frynee's gender when they made this decision. Frynee's parents filed a lawsuit against the NYC Department of Education and BAE alleging that they violated her rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Easter District of New York ruled that the NYC DOE and BAE did violate Frynee's right by denying her admission to BAE. The NYC DOE and BAE appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where the ruling of the Eastern District of New York was reversed. Frynee Fisher appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States. 1) BAE being an all boys school served an important government interest because it boosted the academic performance of boys, and bridged the gap between them and the girls. 2) Statistics show that boys at BAE are thriving academically. 3) BAE did not generalize boys and girls. 4) Frynee primarily wanted to attend BAE in order to play football. BAE offered a solution to that by allowing her to practice and coach the football team. 5) The DOE did not know Frynee's gender when they decided to not place her in BAE. Argument BAE served an important government interest. BAE served the important government interest of improving the academic performance boys in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on Anne Fausto-Sterling's "The Five Sexes" Exploring the Social Standards of Sex and Gender There are several sources that tell a person how to be a man or woman. Science tells us by recognizing the X or Y chromosomes. The media shows us through the physically ideal celebrities that grace the covers of magazines and flaunt their bodies in commercials. Sports, wrestling, cars, and blue for the boys. Dresses, make–up, painted nails, and pink for the girls. All of these sources, as well as others, have evolved into an expectation that has become institutionalized within society. This expectation, is placement and belonging into the binary system of person: the man or the woman. In Anne Fausot–Sterling's acrticles "The Five Sexes" and the "The Five Sexes, Revisited", the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides the genders male and female, there is also intersexed. Within that group of intersexed, there are subgroups. Fausto–Sterling explains this in her "The Five Sexes: Why Male and Female are Not Enough": Firstly, the term "intersex" is used in medical literature to describe the "so–called true hermaphrodite" (possesses one testis and one ovary), "the male pseudohermaphrodite" (possess testes and some aspects of the female genitalia, but no ovaries), and "female pseudohermaphadites" (possess ovaries and some aspects of the male genitalia but lack testes). I had no idea that there were subgroups to the "intersexed". Due to social conformity, along with the advancement of technology and surgical procedure intersexed persons are aimed to be "fixed" at birth. Although otherwise healthy, there is a need to perform surgery on the baby in order to remove certain sexual organs that don't fit with the perfect idea of what a girl or boy should look like. This often leaves scars, and the psychological and emotional confusion along with it. "The Five Sexes Revisited" focused on the importance of therapy over surgery. Medical ethicist Laurence B. McCullough of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor Collefe of Medicine in Houston, Texas "contend[ed] that in the process of assigning gender, physicians should minimize what he calls irreversible assignments: taking steps such as the surgical removal ... • 7. Gender Stereotypes Opinions Regarding Gender Segregation... Through the model female forebears' endeavor, nowadays, women have obtained an impartial position in most areas, including higher education, skilled occupation and even politics. Title IX of the Civil Rights Law Act, states " No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" ( U.S. department of education, 2015) . However, it became clear that women have approached a new battle of campaigning gender equality, sports. "Sports, in other words, are not just for fun, are not just for guys, are not just so much background yammering (though talk radio can make it sound that way), but a ... The condition in where children grow up, along with the value given and showed by adults usually shaped their development. (Lawson,2013) Thus, it is compelling to inquiry students' opinions regarding gender segregation in their PE lessons and how it affects them exactly. This research will investigate equality in sports and to what extend does movement of gender equality at DHSZ affecting both students feeling and PE department 's decision of combining two genders into a mixed group in PE lessons from 2015–2017. The research will be based on year 13 students and PE teachers in Dulwich international high school Suzhou. • 11. Pros And Cons Of Co Education Nowadays, it seems like more and more people are pushing to put kids in public schools in segregated classes. Not by race this time, but by gender. This has been a common practice in private schools for a while, but is just now being pushed to public schools. There are many pros and cons to both sides, but even though single gender classes do have some merits, co education helps development, leaves students with the same grades, and is much easier to operate. Co education helps develop minds and brains more. Many leaders and proponents of single sex schools claim that isolating genders helps the mind grow more, but this is a blatant lie. Coeducational Schools Mynae Walker Mr. Hance English 12 18 December 2014 Single Gender Schools vs. Coeducational Schools Children that attend single gender schools are rich. Children that attend coed schools are poor. Children that attend single gender schools are well behaved. Children that attend coed schools are defiant. Will there ever be an end to these stereotypical comments? What is most important is that as long as the child feels comfortable in the right learning environment. It seems that today, this is being misinterpreted. Amanda Perkins is in third grade and attends a single gender school in Foley, Alabama. Most of Joshua's teachers have boys work with girls in groups or partners when projects to do assignments. Joshua likes that the teachers bring the boys and girls together so that way they can collaborate and share ideas with each other. Joshua feels that girls can be creative as much as boys can. Joshua feels that a coeducational school is much better than a single gender school. Furthermore, both of the environments are beneficial to a student that adapts to it better. Single gender could be beneficial, coeducational could be beneficial, but there must be an understanding that children are unique individuals and deserves what best fits them. Students in single gender schools break out of their gender roles. According to Jeanne Sather, Magnet Schools of America Conference, "supporters of same–sex education say it builds confidence and helps students concentrate on their work by removing the distractions of dating and other social pursuits." The goal that teachers want students to reach is to endure as much learning as they can. Boys and girls become more open–minded when it comes to choosing subjects in single gender schools as if they were switching gender roles. Females refer more to masculine activities and males refer to feminine activities (Andre). Single gender schools teach students how to expand their subject choices. Effective teaching of children ... • 15. Gender Bias in Education Gender bias has existed in education since the inception of schooling. According to the National Women's History Museum (NWHM), during the 1700's, women were denied access to secondary schooling, and were only given the most basic education deemed necessary to fulfill the "women's duties" (NWHM 1). Research from the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education (NCWGE) has shown that when Title IX was introduced in 1972, girls were able to participate in any state–funded activity, resulting in protest from those who believed gender bias did not exist (NCWGE 1). The opposition argued that girls are just different from boys, and incapable of doing the same things. The gender bias in schools across America, since the conception of schooling, has led to hardships and stereotypes faced by females in education and society. During the 1700's, the education of women was basic. Some girls were taught how to read, strictly to read the Bible, and they were taught skills considered useful, like knitting, sewing, and other household duties. It was considered strange and undesirable for a woman to be well educated. As the 1800's began, female academies began to be formed, which provided women with a similar education to men, teaching math, writing, reading, and history, but separate of the opposite gender. Heading into the 1900's, African American women were finally Higgins 2 given a proper education, although separate of whites (NWHM 3). With the creation of Title IX in ... • 17. Human Sex Ratio At Birth Introduction According to the statistical predictions and Mendelian law of segregation applied to X and Y chromosomes, the numbers of boys and girls born are supposed to be equal, so the sex ratio for humans is expected to be 50:50 (1). However, in the real world, the observed results do not follow this pattern; the actual values can be as high as 170 boys born to 100 girls (2). The major reason that supposedly causes such imbalance in human sex ratio at birth is that more male embryos tend to survive throughout pregnancy (3). The reason why it is happening is not definitive. The big problem is that not a lot of a research has been done in this area. Most of the works only confirm the idea of male prevalence at birth, however, there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (4)The idea of statistical chance can be eliminated – the imbalance in sex ratio at birth is observed throughout the history, so there definitely should be some mechanism that induces production of more male embryos than female. Such a trend has been observed not only in humans but among mammals in general (5). Another idea explaining male–biased sex ratio imbalance at birth has to deal with female after birth survival advantage (1). The sex ratio from birth to death is gradually turning the opposite direction: decreasing in males and increasing in females ratios. By the age of 100 there are about four women to every man (1). Even though female fetuses are assumed to be less likely to survive during pregnancy, after birth males suffer more fatal disease, take more mortal risks, and are exposed to more violences than girls. By the time these kids reach their reproduction age, the sex ratio comes to about 1:1. Based on this trend, it could be evolutionary adaptive to produce more males in order to fix the sex ratio by the time of the new reproduction wave in order to regulate the size of population and to have equal parental expenditure (6). That means that this pattern has been naturally selected for and passed and inherited through generations. However, this idea does not explain the mechanism of this inheritance. The key to solve this problem might be hidden in genetics. The crucial difference between human males and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. me me No such thing as "Separate but Equal" in Education One of the most common question for parents when it comes to choosing high schools or college for their child is "Should girls and boys be taught separately, either in different classes or entirely differently schools, to improve their educational performances, or is such an approach a throwback to a teaching method that was discredited years ago" (Update: Single–Sex Education). I feel as if it is important that boys and girls socialize in school to discourage gender stereotypes in the future. Supporters argue that single–sex schooling eliminates gender stereotypes, but I disagree. Single–sex schooling reinforces gender stereotypes. According to studies, "single–sex schooling reinforces stereotyped notions of how boys and girls should behave, and deprive students of important preparation for the real, coeducational worlds of work and family" (Update: Single–Sex Education 2002). In my opinion, school is suppose to the "workplace" for children, and by separating boys and girls increases gender stereotyping in adulthood by depriving students of the opportunity to interact daily as peers during formative years. Studies show that when children are separated by gender, they tend to start discriminating and start accepting more gender stereotypes. "Segregating students by gender can lead to greater gender discrimination and make it harder to deal with the opposite sex later in life" (Update: Single–Sex Education 2008). • 25. Public Schools Vs. Public School System Essay Education in the United States has been constantly changing with modern views evolving over our nation's historical timeline. These changes have always leaned towards making education more accessible and inherently equal for everyone. Starting in the mid 1600's educational facilities were only available to certain social classes with sons who showed promise of entering a leadership role with the church, state, or courts (Sass, 2016). Gender separated facilities were the norm and the idea of opening a facility to accommodate both genders was absurd. Currently, public education is predominantly a coeducational environment with only 500 public schools nationwide providing gender separate classes (Eliot, 2013, p. 364). In the last few decades, however, the idea of having gender separate classes within a coeducational public school system has become quite the controversy. Argumentative statements are being made from both sides with regard to brain development, stereotyping, learning preferences, and equal opportunity. Looking into our nation's history, we can see the journey taken in order to create the integrated coeducational public school systems we have now. The question presented to our current public school system is whether or not reverting back to gender separated education is in fact beneficial to the students. One of the leading arguments for gender separate classrooms is the brain development difference between girls and boys. Supporters of gender separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. What Is Glass Ceiling? The concept of glass ceiling emphasizes situations in which individuals (typically females and other minorities) are unable to advance and attain a higher management level position in their professions, due to invisible barriers and subtle biases in the workplace. The imperceptible nature of glass ceiling highlights such partialities, as it occurs because of the "culture" of a workplace rather than explicit discrimination. Thus, glass ceiling may not be a matter of simply one's race, but more so the kind of "comfort, chemistry, relationships and collaborations" (Kimmel and Holler 2011) that exist in the workplace. While there may be many reasons to why glass ceiling occurs, it is primarily due to the unconscious effort by members of a company to maintain the existing atmosphere of a workplace. Glass escalator refers to the phenomenon in which non–traditional members in a particular profession (typically men in female–dominated fields) rapidly rise to the top of the hierarchy. Each woman told an event when she was discriminated with the employing organization. To come up with individual stories, basic information on each woman, including her race and job title was noted. The type of discrimination, stereotyping, workplace composition, and role of policy in the discrimination were also taken into consideration. • 43. Gender Roles And Sex Segregation In The United States Gender roles play a huge part in society. Gender plays a role in shaping an individuals identify and beliefs. It also helps identify what is masculine and what is feminine. Certain tasks, duties, and jobs are classified by gender. However, gender appropriate behavior should not be enforced in our society for numerous reasons and can be seen on an individual level and be demonstrated by social learning theory and sex segregation. Within and across different cultures, we can find great consistency in standards of anticipated gender roles. In the United States, like many other countries, males are expected to be independent, assertive, and competitive. Females are expected to be more passive, sensitive, and supportive. For example, when a woman gives birth, she is the one that is expected to stay home and take care of her children while the father goes to work and is the breadwinner for the family. In society, it is more acceptable and common to see the women stay home and take care of the house and children while the husband goes to work instead of the other way around. Stay at home dads are not as common as stay at home moms. However, it is up to the individuals on what they decide as a couple. Because of this, gender appropriate behaviors can be seen because of sex segregation and starting at young ages. In a business/managerial sense, there is much debate about the gaps between certain social groups regarding the roles in which they occupy within an organisation, with a considerable amount of literature focussing on the space between men and women, namely the gender pay gap and 'the glass ceiling'. If the baby is a girl, many parents will immediately begin to decorate a pink nursery with soft decor such as butterflies. They will fill toy boxes with dolls as well. What this is doing, though most parents don't realize it, is setting up their daughter to be the typical stereotypical woman. Other common stereotypes put on women is that they are weaker than men, not supposed to be politicians, not supposed to play sports, supposed to be submissive, do housework, and supposed to raise children. Stereotyping is no different with a boy. The nursery is decked in blue and the theme is something tough like jungle animals or dinosaurs. Boys' toys generally consist of action figures, dinosaurs and video games. From the beginning, boys are taught to be tough. Many parents do not teach their boys how to wash the dishes or the laundry. Instead, boys are taught to take out the trash and mow the lawn. This is part of the stereotype that men are supposed to do any work that requires muscle. Other stereotypes about men are that they are the top of the household, they are the the only ones that work in fields ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Dana Hall College Essay Dana–Hall, is a well known and respected all–girl boarding and day school (6–12 grade) competing in a time period in which social attitudes towards single sex education is shrinking. Measures of demographics and social trends indicate a clear shift towards a co–educational school environment. This new reality, where demand is decreasing faster than supply, results in declining numbers of potential female applicants over which the last four all–girl boarding and day schools are aggressively competing to maintain continues enrolment figures. Other former all–girl schools have either moved to admit boys or merged with better–funded boys schools to avoid bankruptcy. On top of these constraints, and in direct relation, Dana–Hall is also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Full enrolment implied a student body of approximately 450; however, Dana–Hall didn't experience such a case since the 1980s (numbers reaching not more than 374). Opening the doors to male applicants would fill the empty/missing positions and push financial performance to full capacity. Dana– Hall could also consider a merger with a boy's school. However, it is unlikely that the institute will find a partnership as merger opportunities dried up since 1971, when many single–sex schools were moving towards co–education. Today only two all–boys institutes remain in the area but if one of them would be interested, a merger providing financial and operational synergies would definitely help Dana–Hall out of its crisis. Following this strategy, Dana–Hall not only opens the door for male applicants but also for female applicants who prefer gender integrated schools, thereby securing the likelihood of full enrolment at all times. However, going against its sole mission could be a slap in the face for some stakeholders, especially to those who believe that a single–sex environment works well for their daughters. This could hurt Dana–Halls' performance and reputation in away that some parents would move their daughters to the other competing all–girl institutes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Essay On Biological Sex Issue in Texas: Gender Identify vs Biological Sex–The Bathroom Bill There's an ongoing battle in the State of Texas over who should be allowed to use public restrooms. Specifically, which restrooms should transgenders use. There's strong opposition to legislation regulating bathroom use. Many Texans argue we should all use restrooms based on our biological sex (sex as stated on our birth certificates) but there is strong opposition arguing we should be able to use restrooms based on our Gender Identity (what sex one identifies themselves as). Those against transgenders using the "wrong" restroom suggest it is potentially putting other users at risk of encountering a sexual predator. While many are arguing if a person identifies as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Senate Bill No. 6 states that a person must use the restroom associated with their biological sex, not the restroom that conforms to the persons gender identity. Senate Bill No. 6 was designed to protect people using public restrooms or changing rooms. The bill would apply to places that are available to the public, or any institution receiving aid from the government. It does not apply to private businesses, schools etc. In a public setting, a transgender would still be able to use the bathroom they prefer, but only if they get their sex changed on their birth certificate. The bill would not affect big convention centers, stadiums, or other entertainment venues if they're not public facilities. If a private association leases out one of their venues to a non–governmental agency, then the bill would not apply to them. Public entities choosing to not regulate bathroom policies to fit Senate Bill No. 6 could be fined from $1,000–$10,500 (Ryan). In Senate Bill No. 6 it says that if a school district, state funded program or political subdivision are not enforcing the bathroom policy, a citizen may file a complaint to the Attorney General (Kolkhorst). First the individual must complain to the organization that is violating Senate Bill No.6, if the institute does not address the issue within three business days, then you may file your complaint with the Attorney General. • 65. The Gender Equality And Education Throughout the years gender equality and education have drastically changed. Some people went through different experiences depending when or even where a person grew up. In the United States Title IX was a big contributing factor in gender equality. "These areas are: Access to Higher Education, Career Education, Education for Pregnant and Parenting Students, Employment, Learning Environment, Math and Science, Sexual Harassment, Standardized Testing and Technology" (Titleix.info, History). In this project, I have interviewed three different people: A late 50s female, an early 20s male, and an early 50s female who grew up in the Philippines. All three interviewees have had different experiences that will be compared and contrasted into this essay. During the academic years of a late 50s female who attended school from the 1960s–1970s, before and shortly after Title IX existed, had very different experiences compared to my other two interviewees. During this woman's elementary years, teachers had always treated males and females differently. In kindergarten, boys had a separate corner with toys that only boys played with, and girls had another corner with toys that only girls could play with. Neither gender was allowed to play with the other's toys. If a girl wanted to play with a G.I.JOE doll, she was not allowed and got in trouble if she attempted to do so. Throughout most of her school years, genders were always separated in some way. With the gender segregation, boys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Negative Effects Of Gender Segregation In Schools Not only can gender separate schools change individual's perception of their own identity; they can also change the way one gender views another. In a segregated environment, even with good intentions, children infer the groups differ in important ways and develop biases. The study of Keener, Mehta and Strough (2013) examined the association between gender–segregated peer preferences and sexism to find out if there are negative consequences of gender segregation in schools . The researched proved, «sexism was related to gender–segregated peer preferences at school» , especially «that gender– segregated peer preferences are associated with sexism towards women during adolescence.» (Keener et al, 2013, p.827–828) . This finding proved that in gender–segregated environment students can not learn from each other, of their unique differences and, thus, are more prone to having stereotyped attitudes towards another gender . Single–sex schools cut off gender communication and confine students to one sex while interacting between each other is a part of human nature. Benjamin Carr (2016) wrote about another study concerning gender separation and its link to bias development. This research «assigned children to novel social groups based on t–shirt color in either segregated or integrated summer–school classrooms» and found out that children segregated by t–shirt color developed more in–group bias than those who were integrated (p. 561) . • 69. Pros And Cons Of Single Sex Schools Single sex schools are common within the fait schools and some schools who believe there association within their faith would work out better within a diverse atmosphere. Some believe that having single sex schools is a good idea because then boys would feel more concentrated with their school work instead of trying to impress or compete for the girls. Parents also believe that boys would participate more and be focus with their education if girls were not in the same class as them. As a result, single sex schools should be banned to give children the opportunity to gain a better education and interacting with the opposite sex. Teaching boys and girls in separate classrooms it's an old approach in which has recently gained momentum. The reason being is some debate on the fact that it reduces boys' and girls' opportunities to work together, and reinforces sex stereotypes while others believe that single–sex schooling results in better academic outcomes. Although there has been multiple case studies to find some common ground or to see which one is more beneficial or affective the results fluctuates. According to Dr. Michael Gurian, Leonardo Sax and others believed that boys and girls should be taught differently and be parted from the same sex when gaining their education. Do to their research and the books they have published many schools have in fact already started separating the children in the classrooms. Dr.Sax, one of the believers was in fact the Executive director of the National Association of Single Sex Public Education. He was criticize for his judgment of boys precipitating information effortlessly, having more energy than the girls in a classroom while the girls are in need of a special touch and being unable to retain information as thoroughly as the boys. In the mid–1900's there was only 2 Single sex public school, today there are more than 500 public schools in which are scattered all over 40 states whom offer single sex academic classes or even entirely single sex classes Dr. Halpern thought otherwise, she once said that while girls are better readers and get better grades, boys are more likely to have more complications and end up having reading disabilities, but it does not mean that ... • 71. Heredity and Sex Essay Heredity and Sex When analyzing the major accomplishments of the 20th century it is imperative to include the achievements in biology, which have revolutionized our understanding of life's process and of disease. Already in the second half of the 19th century implications to future progress in the biological world were being made. Darwin had outlined the evolution in animal species, Mendel had discovered some basic rules for inheritance, and Weissman and other embryologists were beginning to decipher how an organism develops. (Britannica, 1) However there was one key element missing, how all these advances were correlated? The important information that unified these three fields (heredity, evolution, and development) came at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Internalist studies gained importance in the 1890's to 1900 due to the success of German physiology and experimental embryologists. And the years of 1905–1915 brought a stress of heredity, where research was focused on chromosomes. (Masienschein, 458) Not one specific approach provided a full account of sex determination, however with the convergence of different approaches a new approach was manifested, which reshaped tradition of developmental study. (Maienschein, 458) Thomas Hunt Morgan advocated the internalist developmental search for a theory of sex determination and production. In 1903 he concluded that both male and females "elements" exist in all kind of eggs and they are not predetermined as being either male or female. However his evidence remained inconclusive as to whether the nucleus or cytoplasm provided the determining influence on sex. (Maienschein, 467) Morgan acknowledge that there were two types of sex theories, the morphological (preexistence of sex in germ cells) and physiological (individual physiological process of development). Even in 1910 after receiving the Nobel Prize for research in sex–limited inheritance, Morgan remained declined to regard the chromosomes as responsible for determining development. He thought they played a role, but could not see them as determinants. (467) Eventually, the internalist set aside explicit concern about physiological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Single Gender Schools Are Better Than Coed Schools Have you ever wondered if single–gender schools are better than coed schools? Each side has advantages, but there are also disadvantages to them. My thoughts on this subject is coed schools aren't as supportive and beneficial as single–gender schools. I think this for many reasons, including that single–gender schools improve student collaboration, self–improvement by not worrying about being judged by the breaking down of stereotypes, and teachers can use better teaching techniques when teaching one gender classes. Although, some people might think otherwise, that coeducational schools prepare students for the outside world more effectively, I think differently. In my own opinion, I indeed think that single–sex schools are better than coed schools. Single–gender schools improve student collaboration. Students seem to work better with the same gender. Since they are with the same gender as them, they develop better collaboration skills and get things done faster. "We have seen many students start to focus heavily on academics," Rojas continued. "They no longer clown or try to impress the opposite sex. Girls are more apt to answer questions aloud in class as well as ask them. Girls are learning to be more academically competitive and boys are learning to collaborate." (Wesley Sharpe, Single–Gender Classes: Are They Better?). Meaning, boys work better and faster when working with other boys without girls in the way and they learn more. Girls also work better and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Sex Segregation in the Workplace Essay Why are most brain surgeons and CEO's male? Why are most secretaries and nurses female? Why not female surgeons and male nurses? These are simple and frequent questions that can be answered by most Sociologist and Theorists. Sociologists and Theorists equate this type of job inequality phenomenon with occupational sex segregation. Sex segregation in the workplace is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor market. In almost every work setting, it is rare to see men and women working at the same job. When they do, they usually perform different tasks, with unequal levels of responsibility and authority. Even when job tasks are virtually identical, it is not uncommon to find men and women allocated to distinct job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employers try to maximize profits by maximizing productivity and minimizing costs to the extent possible, but because of competition and efficient labor markets, employers pay workers their marginal product. So, this theory explains why more males than females are surgeons; because they seem to have better opportunities for education and they tend to lack certain obligations that females have. Whereas many women find it difficult to find the time to obtain this education because of their certain obligations life hands them, for example taking care of a family and raising children. When explaining occupational sex segregation by sex, researchers usually distinguish labor supply and labor demand factors. Factors related to labor supply generally focus on why women "prefer" certain types of occupation for example, women may "prefer" those with flexible hours in order to allow time for child care, and may also "prefer" occupations which are relatively easy to interrupt for a period of time to bear or rear children. Explanations related to labor demand focus on why employers generally "prefer" to hire women or men for particular occupations and why women and men have different opportunities for promotion and career development within firms. Institutional and labor market segmentation theories are another explanation for why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Comparing and Analyzing the Differences Between Co-Ed... Comparing and analyzing the differences between co–ed schools and single–sex schools The issue of single–sex schools versus co–ed schools is very much debated and controversial. There are strong supporters for both sides, giving good and valid arguments. It is an issue with a long history, receiving great attention from the media, researchers, teachers and most of all, parents. Although there are many studies that try to answer this question, the problem will probably continue to exist and be debated, the opinions being mixed. After all, choosing a type of education is a matter of personal choice. Nonetheless, there are several clear advantages and disadvantages of both, and there is evidence that there are differences when it comes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, despite the many advantages, there are also down–sides of single–sex schools and education. Kristin Stanberry, a writer and editor specializing in parenting, education, and consumer health/wellness issues, argues that there are many who believe that gender separation is not wise as there aren't many instructors who are able to adapt their teaching methods and understandings to only one gender. This could lead to a worse development and achievements, the exact opposite of what single–ed's aim is. Even more, maybe the greatest counter–argument is that this way of education promotes discrimination and sexism. This is what many people believe, among them being the American Civil Liberties Union which even filed a suit against a school in Kentucky for organizing single–sex classes in their institution (Single–Sex Education: the pros and cons). By attending a single–sex school, people may develop shyness and have problems interacting with the other sex in the future, for there was no precedent during their education. Co–ed schools: Unlike single–sex schools, co–ed schools are educational institutions where boys and girls are not separated, being no restrictions and no classes where only one sex can attend. It is not a practice as old as its opponent, in the past the higher forms of education being reserved only for male students. However, in the recent past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
