Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median and Mode
Research into student magazines (1)
1. A masthead- let hand of the magazine
Some sell lines- highlighted in orange
A main cover line- “vice by nevada”
Price - £3.40- price not too high so it suggests that
it’s for teens.
Do you think the design is convincing?
The design is some what convincing as it uses a main
image a mid close-up, barcode at the bottom of the
page, masthead that takes up a bit of the magazine,
some sell lines just above the barcode, a main cover
line “vice by nevada” above the sell lines and price at
the top of the page. However the fact that the main
image looks like it’s been taken on a mobile phone and
the font is laid out does not appeal to me and may
not appeal to others. It also doesn’t look convincing
as a magazine for example the logo looks like it
about 10 minutes on paint.
Please more slides to fully explain your ideas (This
can be included as part of your coursework).
2. Masthead
The masthead “choosing a
school for your child Victoria”
covers one quarter of the
magazine cover. It is in a
blocked colour backgrounded by
white.
Articles
The articles on this
magazine are all
about education
and how to choose
the right school for
your child.
Main image
The main image signifies
that is about school. The
image also relates to the
colour scheme blue,
white and red.
It draws attention away
from the cover lines as
they blend in which isn’t
good. But on the other
hand the main image
relates to the what the
magazine is about which
is good.
Cover lines
Some of the cove lines
are effective in drawing
you in as they are in
bold red or blue. Each
of the cover lines are in
bold capital letters
drawing the eye of the
reader.
Colours
The colour of the magazine
match the colours of the
uniform the girl in the image
is wearing.
Body language
The body language of the student in
the image suggests that she happy and
ready to learn.

5. What did your questionnaire tell you?
My questionnaire told me that people want an agony aunt/problem page, a list of
school events and puzzles in their school magazine.
