Multicultural Matrix & Analysis
AMERICA’S CULTURE
What is the group’s history in the United States?
What is the group’s population in the United States?
What are some attitudes and customs people of this group may
practice?
What is something you admire about this group’s people,
lifestyle, or society?
1. <Group 1>white American
This group belongs to the native land of North and South
America hence their origin is in USA.
They are the majority in the USA and are over 70% of the total
population of the United States.
This group practices such customs as having the high classes
and also prefer more modern fashions of food and clothing.
The most admirable practice among this group is more of
modern culture practices and they are not following more of
traditional practices.
2. Black and African America.
They came from Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
They are the second major group and cover around 12% of the
USA.
This group is more of assimilated into having white Americans
culture but they also follow more of Africans culture.
The best practice among this group is how they are proud of
their traditional culture and they work more.
3. Asian America.
They came from the far east of Europe and Asia continent.
There population comes after those of Black-African America.
They possess Asians traditions such as the mode of dressing and
some sort of aggressive implications to the other groups.
One of the admirable cultures of the Asians is how they are
aggressive in following what they want to achieve.
4. American Indians Alaska Natives.
They originate from the Indian parts and came to settle in
America.
They are slightly less populated than the Asian Americans.
These are more of economical in terms of their culture in that
most of their practices are aimed at business and making profit.
They also follow the Hindu culture like worship of many gods.
The have an admirable culture of worship of their gods.
5. Native Hawaiians and other specific Islanders.
They originate from the regions around the pacific area.
These are less in number as compared to the Indian Americans.
They have mixed culture which is compromised by the other
groups and they mostly follow practices from these other
groups. They also have also have some retained practices like
fishing.
The admirable culture among this group is fishing.
6. Two more races.
These are other minority groups that came from different
regions and settled in America.
These are the less populated individuals in as compared to other
ethnic groups in America.
They practice mixed culture of which depend with the area of
their origin. Some have completely forgotten their culture and
are following those of other groups.
The most admirable practice among this group is how they
interact with other groups.
The USA has greatly used these groups in building its identity
in several ways. It has improved the traditional aspects of each
group where it uses such events like social and cultural day to
enhance more culture building up. This has seen to more of
cultures from the different ethnic groups being promoted and
accommodated by other groups. Again when these ethnic groups
interact, they exchange their culture hence leading to spread of
cultures as well as the appreciation of other different cultural
practices. In addition, the USA has seen stereotypes of different
ethnic groups being expanded in that the stereotypical practices
of the groups are being promoted. Each ethnic group has its own
way of dividing work and job according to gender which is also
promoted by the USA. However, there are some stereotypical
practices which are no longer promoted by the same state
because they have resulted to gender discrimination among the
individuals and hence they are highly discouraged. This is the
reason as to why some traditional practices among some of the
ethnic groups are depleting as the state is against the same. The
stereotypes which are encouraged are more accurate and
recommendable such that they promote gender equity as well as
supporting each other member of the state which are not of the
same race or ethnic group. Thus the supported stereotypes are
somehow accurate. (Rubin, 1994).
The social concept of the race somehow affects the different
race and ethnic groups where some groups like the African
America and other minor groups are seen to be less important in
terms of social interaction. Hence some of these groups are not
given equal chances as others in matters concerning important
decisions to be made in the society as they are seen less
important. This aspect affects the relationship among the
different groups of the USA. (Rubin, 1994).
The behavior system of the USA has greatly resulted to big
cultural gap between these ethnic groups where some are
thought to be inferior to others. The minor groups are
discriminated in matters concerning employment in job places
as the major groups are favored. Some are denied some jobs due
to their physical appearances especially the black Americans.
This is also reinforced by the difference in class wealth. Those
who are in high classes are considered superior to the rest and
take more advantages in matters of employment and community
development. (Steinberg, 2001).

Notes from professor:
Thank you for submitting your multicultural matrix; however, I
am returning your matrix to you for correction and re-
submission. The assignment asked you to select six ethnic
groups. Ethnic groups are defined as groups that are identified
by cultural features such as language, traditions, country of
origin, etc. They are not racial groups. The groups you selected
are actually racial groups and not ethnic groups. Please select
six ethnic groups and resubmit.

  • 2. practice? What is something you admire about this group’s people, lifestyle, or society? 1. <Group 1>white American This group belongs to the native land of North and South America hence their origin is in USA. They are the majority in the USA and are over 70% of the total population of the United States. This group practices such customs as having the high classes and also prefer more modern fashions of food and clothing. The most admirable practice among this group is more of modern culture practices and they are not following more of traditional practices. 2. Black and African America. They came from Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. They are the second major group and cover around 12% of the USA. This group is more of assimilated into having white Americans culture but they also follow more of Africans culture. The best practice among this group is how they are proud of their traditional culture and they work more. 3. Asian America. They came from the far east of Europe and Asia continent. There population comes after those of Black-African America. They possess Asians traditions such as the mode of dressing and some sort of aggressive implications to the other groups. One of the admirable cultures of the Asians is how they are aggressive in following what they want to achieve. 4. American Indians Alaska Natives. They originate from the Indian parts and came to settle in America. They are slightly less populated than the Asian Americans.
  • 3. These are more of economical in terms of their culture in that most of their practices are aimed at business and making profit. They also follow the Hindu culture like worship of many gods. The have an admirable culture of worship of their gods. 5. Native Hawaiians and other specific Islanders. They originate from the regions around the pacific area. These are less in number as compared to the Indian Americans. They have mixed culture which is compromised by the other groups and they mostly follow practices from these other groups. They also have also have some retained practices like fishing. The admirable culture among this group is fishing. 6. Two more races. These are other minority groups that came from different regions and settled in America. These are the less populated individuals in as compared to other ethnic groups in America. They practice mixed culture of which depend with the area of their origin. Some have completely forgotten their culture and are following those of other groups. The most admirable practice among this group is how they interact with other groups. The USA has greatly used these groups in building its identity in several ways. It has improved the traditional aspects of each group where it uses such events like social and cultural day to enhance more culture building up. This has seen to more of cultures from the different ethnic groups being promoted and accommodated by other groups. Again when these ethnic groups interact, they exchange their culture hence leading to spread of cultures as well as the appreciation of other different cultural practices. In addition, the USA has seen stereotypes of different
  • 4. ethnic groups being expanded in that the stereotypical practices of the groups are being promoted. Each ethnic group has its own way of dividing work and job according to gender which is also promoted by the USA. However, there are some stereotypical practices which are no longer promoted by the same state because they have resulted to gender discrimination among the individuals and hence they are highly discouraged. This is the reason as to why some traditional practices among some of the ethnic groups are depleting as the state is against the same. The stereotypes which are encouraged are more accurate and recommendable such that they promote gender equity as well as supporting each other member of the state which are not of the same race or ethnic group. Thus the supported stereotypes are somehow accurate. (Rubin, 1994). The social concept of the race somehow affects the different race and ethnic groups where some groups like the African America and other minor groups are seen to be less important in terms of social interaction. Hence some of these groups are not given equal chances as others in matters concerning important decisions to be made in the society as they are seen less important. This aspect affects the relationship among the different groups of the USA. (Rubin, 1994). The behavior system of the USA has greatly resulted to big cultural gap between these ethnic groups where some are thought to be inferior to others. The minor groups are discriminated in matters concerning employment in job places as the major groups are favored. Some are denied some jobs due to their physical appearances especially the black Americans. This is also reinforced by the difference in class wealth. Those who are in high classes are considered superior to the rest and take more advantages in matters of employment and community development. (Steinberg, 2001).
