This document outlines an assignment for an Executive MBA strategy course. Students are asked to write a 5,000 word analytical piece applying strategic management theory to their workplace. They must critically analyze four key drivers of change impacting their organization and industry, develop a strategic plan to mitigate risks and optimize opportunities, and explain how they would motivate subordinates to ensure organizational resilience. An assessment of stakeholders using a four corners framework is also required, demonstrating how the organization's strategy aligns with Qatar's 2030 vision. The assignment aims to develop students' understanding of strategy implementation challenges and evaluate contemporary strategic issues through critical application of course concepts to practice.

Executive MBA
Strategy Course –BS551D
Outline
This module will be assessed through an analytical piece of critical work that applies core
strategic management theory to the workplace. A strong element of observation, reflection
and personal integration will be required. The assignment will be of around 5,000 words in
length. A relevant reference base is expected to underpin the work and provide focused
conceptual frameworks through which to critique and reflect on practice. The assignment
ought to focus on observations of practice and a critical application of core concepts
introduced in the weekend teaching sessions to a carefully identified practice context.
The report should follow a logical structure and ought to be written as a structured essay
rather than in bullet point format. There should be a sensible balance between careful
description of the organizational setting, theoretical coverage and the critical application of
theory, concepts and models to understanding the dynamics of practice in some depth.
The learning outcomes covered by this assessment are as follows:
S1: Have a critical appreciation of the main strengths and weaknesses of various
strategic actions such as cost-based and differentiation strategies, consolidation, market
penetration, specialisation, product development and technological first-mover
strategies, market development and internationalisation, diversification, acquisitions
and mergers, strategic alliances
S2: Have an advanced understanding of many of the routinely-encountered difficulties
in strategy implementation and have methods at hand to address those difficulties,
including leading, persuading and managing change
S3: Demonstrate a strong grasp of key debates within contemporary strategic
management and be able to undertake critical appraisal of the latest strategic
management literature and research, applying critical judgement and discrimination
S4: Critically apply tools and techniques to analyse the competitive and contextual
environment to develop appropriate strategies.
