3. Yashar is a Hebrew word which means to make
straight, even, right, pleasant and prosperous
THE YASHAR PROJECT is comprised of men
and women who are concerned about the
deplorable conditions we have seen around the
world. Our purpose is to make a difference in
the lives of people wherever and whenever we
can.
4. Our hope is to reach and serve the children
and youth around the world. We hope to have
a positive influence on their lives so they will
continue the work that can change the
environment and communities in which they
live. Therefore we welcome the opportunity to
pour hope and encouragement into as many
lives as we encounter. Here are some of the
conditions we hope to address:

14. As we encounter the needs of people around the
world, with earnest hearts we will strive to
answer the call to serve them as we are able. We
know we cannot solve all the problems around
the world, yet we strive to help as many children
as possible. Our heart’s desire is to make a
measureable difference in their lives. We accept
this responsibility and will do our very best. We
do this by:

16. A major cause of malnutrition in the
slums of Africa is poverty. According to
a 2012 United nation study, on average a
household in sub-Saharan Africa earns
$1.25 a day or less. Simply put, people
do not have enough money to purchase
enough food to eat consistently, not to
mention nutritiously.

18. Many parent do not have sufficient financial
resources to pay the fare to go to work, have
lunch, feed the family and pay their rents. For
many such families some things are optional and
unfortunately education is that option. For a
child to attend school, the parents must buy
uniforms, shoes, notebooks, text books, pens and
pencils, pay for all state mandated tests and
provide or pay for all meals.
19. The schools in the slums are private schools, which
means they are not funded by the government. They
must still meet the same standards as government
funded schools. Many were started by people who
saw the need in their communities and opened their
churches, homes, even open fields in an effort to
make a difference. They are destitute and cannot
afford to purchase books for their students. In 2013,
we purchase the first set of text books for Elim
Primary School since their inception. Sadly, it was
only for one grade. This year we intend to purchase
books for the entire school

Even at this low cost there are children who still
go without a meal every day.

41. In 2012 at Elim Primary School in Nairobi, we
purchased book for class eight. The students of class
eight must take the high school entrance exam (KCPE)
for acceptance into high school. There was a vast
improvement in their test scores compared to the
previous year.
This year our desire was to purchase books for the
entire school. Because of your donations we were able
to buy books for half of the students in each class. As
you can tell there is a gap which needs to be filled.
