Selection Of Transducers
2. What is a transducer?
Microphones ,loudspeakers
Thermocouples
Thermometers
Position and pressure sensors,
Antenna.
Common examples include :

A transducer is an electronic device that converts energy from
one form of energy to another form.
3. 3
Electrical Transducers
The electrical transducers is one
which converts the non electrical
quantity into the equivalent electrical
quantity.
Non-electrical quantity such as
force, displacement, stress,
temperature.

Selection of Transducers
Selection of the proper transducer is an essential factor for ensuring
optimum performance in any ultrasonic gauging application.

Operating range : The range of transducer should be
appropriate for measurement to get a good resolution.
Operating Principle : The transducers are selected on the
basis of operating principle it may be resistive, inductive,
capacitive, optical etc.
Accuracy : The accuracy should be as high as possible or as
per the measurement.
Selection of Transducers :
6. Sensitivity : The transducer should be more sensitive to
produce the output or sensitivity should be as per requirement.
Environmental compatibility : The transducer should maintain
input and output characteristic for the selected environmental
condition.
Loading effect: The transducer’s input impedance should be
high and output impedance should be low to avoid loading
effect.
Errors : The error produced by the transducer should be low as
possible.

Selection of Transducers :
7. Simple circuit
Easy to operate
Easy noise detection and removal
Low power consumption
It is suitable for any device or system
Low friction effects
High controllability
Very low chances of mechanical wear and tear
Advantages of a transducer

8. The electric transducers are less reliable
than the mechanical type transducers
Expensive sensing elements
The use of active components to
improve aging effects makes the circuit
complex.

Disadvantages of transducer
9. 9
Transducer measure the load on the engines
Measuring fluid height or level in tanks
It is used for detecting the movement of muscles which is
called acceleromyograph
It is also used in the ultrasound machine. It receives the
sound wave of the patient by emitting their sound waves
and pass the signal to the CPU
Application of the transducer
