Do Athletes And General Managers Get Paid Too Much?
A lot of people have questioned the pay of the athletes and their managers get. Therefore,
the pay that is in sports and games industry sorer in the athletes side is seen to be higher and good.
This has led to many people joining the sports industry as they believe the industry will uplift their
status in terms of finance. Therefore there is a general agreement from most people that the athletes
and their managers in the sports sector get higher salaries and instant rewards in terms of money.
The paper is going to show how athletes and general managers get good money.
Many athletes will fulfil that within a year one is able to earn around $100 million shillings.
A good example of the athlete is the famous Hussein Bolt from Jamaica who is believed that his
wealth amounts to one billion. It is believed that before he retired the guy use to make around 150
million within the year due to his hard work in athletics. It is also believed that his manager use to
earn half of Bolt’s money within the year. Therefore the most of these professional athletes in the
society tend to earn a lot of wages which are based on their value of work. Therefore in the society
people should be paid in terms of the importance of the economics of the job they do (Bebchuk,
Lucian, 20-39)
Surname 2
Teaching as a profession is one of the most important occupation in the society. This is because
the future economy relies on the youth and without education, youths cannot prosper economically.
Teachers tend to be paid less as compared to athletes yet they are the one who provide channels to
good economy. Infact it is said that one basket that Kobe Bryant attains gives an earning that is
equivalent to salary of a teacher of one year. However some people may come up with an argument
that teachers are paid less as compared to the athletes because teachers only give service in a single
classroom but the athlete entertains fans around the world.
Another good example is of the president of America where is seen earning less salary as
compared to the rookie who is in the MLB. To be logic the president is the one who is supports to
earn good salary because he makes important decisions which concern the nation as compared to
the rookie in the MLB (Shleifer, Andrei, 20-24) Military men and doctors safe the lives of people
through risking their lives first but they are paid less as compared to the sports stars. However it is
well understood that in order for one to become a pro it is not an easy journey as one has to spend
a lot of time practicing. But these people usually only play the role of entertaining the public.
Moreover, for the athletes to continue to be rewarded due to the reputation, they have to show the
world that they will act as good examples for other upcoming athletes and the other people that
have an admiration for them. Therefore these athletes must grow up and show that they have the
potential of being good role models to the kids in the other fields. They may be happy when it
comes to them earning their salaries but on the other side they should remember that the law should
have power in any amount that is concerned with talent.
Surname 3
Professional athletes are paid much. This is because managers and players have right to
be well paid since they are center for large entertainment attraction. Athletes and their managers
believe that they are celebrities and because people are in a culture of celebrities they are paid
much so that they may have position or niche for themselves. Moreover, they do earn more since
many people buy them and pay them millions of dollars so that they may play for them since
without athlete there is no game approximately 76 million dollars which are equivalent to salary
of one hundred and seventy-six doctors.
Athletes and general managers particularly those who play soccer, golf, as well as race F1
get paid much compared to other professions like teachers. Many people believe that, it is not fair
while others believe that it is wrong for them to be paid many salaries they are paid much because
professional sports leagues contribute billions of dollars for only players. Many athletes say that,
getting just receive their fair share. Most of the athlete event create job opportunities for
individuals in catering and logistics. Those attract a numerous number of tourists in a particular
country boosting the economy of the country thus, encouraging the agencies to pay them more.
This means that they contribute or give a lot to our state and much they are paid puts country in
order useful and valuable needs in addition, they are paid much because they are most talented and
they show their talents to around 98% of the world populations (Hums 51). The more the talent
they have, the more they are paid. Using their talents acts as the source of entertainment to people
after a long seven days of work. They put individuals in the stands. The secret behind their unique
talents is because they are aggressive, time conscious and disciplined. Also, they are paid much
since their careers take a duration of ten years to around fifteen years because of their health. It
also takes a lot of sacrifices and natural talent. Paying them a lot of money encourage young
children to have the same dreams of being athlete. Thus, benefiting the society and country at

large. Also through charity events, they encourage their younger fans to join. General Managers
are paid much because they are the one who attracts the best players all over the world. They are
the ones who choose their field and areas which act as training grounds for players whereby
they are equipping their players with basic knowledge about their respective games.
It is evident that professional athletes are making too much money in a society that claims
to strictly adhere to ones input in terms of value. The only way one can be able to establish how
much is too much and establish that the athletes are earning too much, is making a comparison to
other professions in terms of the time they spend, effort, value and the salary they get. In today’s
society where the economic indices are falling, one should be paid according to the economic
contribution and importance to the society. The truth of the matter is the athletes do not deserve
the huge amount of money they are getting (Farmer and Pecorino 858). The job of an athlete as
compared to the amount of time they spend on the pitch does not match with the amount of salary
they are earning. A good example is the huge amount of money one of the best basket player earns
for making a single basket, which is far more than what an average teacher makes for teaching in
a class full of students for a whole month.
This on the other hand is discouraging to other professionals who work harder but earn far
much less. Another overriding factor is the value of the athletes’ work as compared to the rest of
the professionals. It is clear that a teacher in a class adds more value to the children and society
than the athlete in the field, whose work is just mere entertainment to the fans (Zimbalist 21). It
would be right to argue that the athletes entertain millions of people all over the world, but again
they earn more than the presidents of the biggest countries in the world who are busy in the office
all day making decisions that affect the whole world.
Surname 5
The kind of life that the athletes live is not appealing to the society and does not justify
them to be paid hefty salaries (Farmer and Pecorino 858). Due to large amounts of money they
get, the athletes take that opportunity to break the law and act out of moral boundaries. Many
sportsmen and athletes have been found on the wrong arm of the law, without respect to the laid
rules setting a bad example to society on immoral spending of money for example drugs and sex.
It is very absurd how few individuals can be paid large amount of money in the world where
millions of human beings are starving to death. With the current world, economic crisis it is
amazing that there can be such reckless disparities and to add pain to the Injury, the players go
ahead to spend the money lavishly and carelessly on items and things that do not add value to life
(Zimbalist 21). There are cases where athletes and players own many houses that they do not use
or maybe never set foot into, beating the fact of the much gripping housing crisis in most parts of
the world. It would have been fair and a bit justifiable if the athletes often practiced acts of charity
as a way of giving back to the society. This would be a way of appreciating their talent and sharing
out to the less fortunate, and it would serve as a way of resource distribution.
However, the athletes should be given peace to rip their sweat in peace. The sportsmen are
being paid from their talent and skill and from their argument and the opinion of other proponents,
they work hard for the gains they get from the fields. The world of entertainment is vital and an
important segment in the life of many sports enthusiasts. It is therefore clear that every profession
has its own rewards. Still the society has to strike balance in resource distribution by rewarding
people according to their effort and value.
