2. THE 1776 CRISIS 2
The American Crisis was the times that try souls of men. In this crisis, the summer soldier
and the sunshine patriotic will withdraw from their country's services but whoever stands it now
will receive love and thanks of man and woman. The soldiers have to fight hoping that they shall
be paid in future. It is not an easy task to conquer tyranny which is like hell; yet with us, we have
a consolation that the difficult the conflict the more glorious the triumph. Since heaven knows how
to reward for the good, freedom should be highly rated. British with the strongest army and more
resources than us has declared that she has a right to bind us in all cases under all the cost. This is
the kind of slavery that we cannot accept. Even if the continent's independence was declared too
soon, or delayed I need no argument, because in my own thinking it should have been eight months
earlier. What Howe is doing is a kind of revenge but with the power of Almighty, I believe that
we will win the battle.
It's on 12th June 1977 at New York City and the Howe brothers can strike any portion
around New York harbor from State Islands with their large ground and navy forces. I think their
ultimate target must be Manhattan hence I am ordained to protect Manhattan by laying out both
the fortified defenses and distribute my troops around the place. As a result, my first decision is to
order Green and his men to occupy the Long Islands Heights Position and defend Brooklyn
Heights. Since General William Howe is the King's official negotiator we decide to call for peace
negotiations. A few days after July 4th I receive some copies declaring our independence thus
changing the aim of the war. However, in early August, Lord Howe meets some Congress members
(Benjamin Franklin and John Adams) during a lunch but since nobody between the two who had
negotiation powers, there was no any negotiation made leading to the cancellation of the previous
declaration of Independence. Howe can neither grant America Independence nor make any useful
offer, hence he leaves and promises to bring American back to negotiation table after defeating us

in war and showing us the error of our ways. As a result, we have a duty to defend New York
from Britain attack thus I decide to Continue preparation for my defense of New York.
It's on 26th August and I am in Manhattan and Long Island with my troop. I have sent a
few more hundred men to Putnam as reinforcement and inspect the Manhattan. Later I go to bed
after a long day. It's on 27th I woke up at down to position my troop but everything seems to be in
chaos since British soldiers have already invaded on us and my soldiers are fleeing for safety. The
fight becomes hotter and it's now on 28th August evening. The English are planning to bombard
us and force us to surrender by siege. Therefore, we have to either remain in the place or defend
against the English siege or Retreat across the East River by Boat. To save my soldiers I decide to
retreat across the East River. My decision results to escaping the British trap thus becoming a
miraculous escape since the British did not realize. The next move is to defend Manhattan. My
next decision is to defend the city, but prepare to retreat to Harlem. On 15th September I ride with
my staff to the lines on Harlem Heights. On 12th I am faced with two tough decisions but I choose
to remain in place to meet any British attack. However, on 16th there is no battle in Harlem
Heights. It's on 12th still in Harlem Heights but on 16th I decides to shift to Fort Washington. My
aim is to guard the Hudson River and cover the retreat. I order the army to evacuate the Fort
Washington as a part of retreat towards White Plain. In October I falls back to Fort Washington.
Now I am at White Plains on October 27th but I am faced with 3 hard decisions. However, I choose
to order a brigade of Continentals. This will help me occupy the hill immediately so as to hinder
the British from occupying the hill and also make it costly for the enemies to position on the hill.
The next day I will be in the battle of White Plains. After the battle on 1st November, I end to
North Castle Heights. My men are very strong to be outflanked. It's on 7th November we are still
at Castle Heights. My decision to evacuate Fort Washington lands me to fall back to Hackensack

and wait for developments on 12th November. On November 20th by use of a note, I order Gen.
Lee to move his force to my location. In 1st December I falls back with the troop to defenses
behind the Delaware River. On 23rd I go to the Delaware River then cross the icy Delaware with
my troops and launch an attack instead of waiting for the British attack. I then go on March towards
Trenton. In December 26th I am faced with two difficult decisions but I decide to go on to Trenton.
There is a battle in Trenton. After Trenton, I go to the Final Word.
Finally, I have done better than Washington himself. My successes in New Jersey and my
proven leadership can lead the Continental Army to success and see victory in the next few years.
