Low-Key Lighting Creates Fear and Suspense in Horror Films
1. Lighting Plan
Low-key lighting is mainly used for horror films due to the effects it
creates. The dim hue and shadows created by this lighting are suited to
the conventions of a horror film; it creates tension due to its mysterious
and dark atmosphere, controlling how much of the surroundings and
characters are revealed. It sets the tone, mood and creates a dangerous
association with enigma through the shadows and dull backgrounds.
In my film I have used low key lighting as in most of the horror films dim
dark lighting creates an environment of fear and suspense. To create
shadows in my film I used a torch light. Throughout my film a ghost is
spying on Lucas thus to create an environment filled with tension low
key lighting is used.
