2. History of the game
James Naismith was
a Canadian American physical education
instructor at the
International YMCA Training School
in Springfield, Massachusetts. In December
of 1891, the director of the school, Dr.
Luther Halsey Gulick, asked Naismith to
find a physical activity to occupy a "class
of incorrigibles." Naismith may have had
other motivations as well.
3. Naismith wanted to create a game of
skill for the students instead of one that
relied solely on strength. He needed a
game that could be played indoors in a
relatively small space. And he wanted to
keep his football players in shape off-
season. As a kid Naismith played a game
called duck on a rock. He took account of
the game he played as a kid and made it
into what we now call basketball. With the
help of his wife he devised a game suitable
for a gymnasium.
4. Naismith obtained two
peach baskets and a soccer ball,
and developed 13 rules for the
new game. He divided his class
of 18 into 2 teams of 9 players
each (the team today would be
the equivalent of 3 guards, 3
centers, and 3 forwards) and set
about to teach them the basics
of his new game of basketball.
10. FAMILY (from Latin: familia) is
a group of people affiliated by consanguinity,
affinity, or co-residence. In most societies it
is the principal institution for the
socialization of children. Anthropologists
most generally classify family organization
as matrilocal (a mother and her children);
conjugal (a wife, husband, and children, also
called nuclear family); and consanguinal (also
called an extended family) in which parents
and children co-reside with other members of
one parent's family.
11. Genealogy is a field which aims to trace
family lineages through history.
In science, the term "family" has come to
be used as a means to classify groups of
objects as being closely and exclusively
related. In the study of animals it has
been found that many species form
groups that have similarities to human
"family"—often called "packs." Sexual
relations among family members are
regulated by rules concerning incest such
as the incest taboo.

16. The visual arts are art forms that create
works that are primarily visual in nature,
suchas ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture
, printmaking,design, crafts, photography, vid
eo, filmmaking and architecture. These
definitions should not be taken too strictly as
many artistic disciplines (performing
arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve
aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of
other types. Also included within the visual
arts[1]are the applied arts[2] such as industrial
design, graphic design, fashion
design, interior design and decorative art.[3]

21. Traditional Japanese musical
instruments
Shamisen (三味線) - A banjo-like lute with three

China in the 16th century. The strings, which are of
different thickness, are plucked or struck with a
tortoise shell pick.
Tsuri-daiko ( 釣 太 鼓 ) - drum on a stand with
ornately painted head, played with a padded stick
The hichiriki ( 篳 篥 ?) is a double
reed Japanese fue (flute) used as one of two main
melodic instruments in Japanese gagaku music, the
other being the ryūteki.
