2. What is NBA?
National Board of accreditation(NBA) is a process of quality
assurance for attaining excellence in the field of education that
gives credit to the academic activities and objectives of the
institutions
.
3. What is tire-I and Tire –II Classification of NBA
accreditation?
Due to the vastness of our educational system in India, the
NBA exercises a two-tier system of accreditation.
The TIER-I system is designed for the technical programmes
offered by autonomous institutions and university
departments.
The TIER-II system, designed for non-autonomous
institutions, both private, and government controlled,
affiliated to a university.
4. The following institutions are eligible to apply
for Accreditation under Tier I and Tire-II system
The TIER-I system is designed for the technical programmes offered
by autonomous institutions and university departments.
Institutions of National importance: (Such as IITs, IISc, IIITDM, IISERs, IIITs
National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
Central Universities
State Universities(Imparting programs in their campus itself)
Private Universities
Deemed-to-be Universities
Autonomous Institutions
The TIER-II system, on the other hand, is for the needs of the non-
autonomous institutions, such as :
Both private, and government controlled, affiliated to a university.
5. Is NBA accreditation mandatory?
Any programmes not accredited will have to be removed as per the
new norms.
At present, only 15 per cent of the programmes have accreditation
status
For improvement of quality of education, AICTE has decreed that
most programmes will have to be accredited by NBA in the
coming years.
Commencement of Accreditation Period will be as
follows:
In case visit of the Expert Team to an Institute is conducted during 1st
July - 31st December, the Period of accreditation would commence
from the on-going academic year(i.e. 1st July of that year).
In case visit is conducted between 1st January to 30th June, the
accreditation period would be from the next academic year(i.e. 1st
July of the next academic year).

10. What are the pre-qualifiers?
Pre qualifiers are the set of Documents that an Institution is
suppose to comply before applying NBA, These are as follows:
Name, Adders and year of Establishment of the College
Head of the Institution
Contact details of Head of the Institution
Name of the Affiliating University
Type of the Institution
Ownership Status
Students Admissions (Institute level considering all UG programs)
Campus Information
Names of programs offered by the College
UG
PG
Note: Please mention department wise.

12. Calculation of Student faculty ratio as follows:

Student Teacher Ratio (STR) = S / F , To be maintained 20 : 1
Note: Minimum 75% should be Regular/Full Time faculty and the
remaining shall be Contractual Faculty* as per AICTE norms
*The contractual faculty who have taught for 2 consecutive semesters in
the corresponding academic year on full time basis shall be considered
for the purpose of calculation in the Student Faculty Ratio
13. Essential Criteria for qualifiers
Vision, Mission & PEOs
Whether the programs is approved by AICTE
Whether admissions in the undergraduate programs is maintained
more or equal to 50%
(average of the previous three academic years including current
academic year)
Whether faculty student ratio in the department under
consideration is better than or equal to 1:25 averaged over previous
three years
At least one Professor or one Associate Professor on regular basis
with Ph.D. degree is available in the respective Department during
previous two academic years including current academic year
Number of available Ph.Ds. in the department is greater than or
equal to 10% of the required number of faculty
Whether two batches have passed out in the programs under
consideration

15. Two main Criteria's that are very essential
Percentage of Admission should be more than 50%
Placement of the final year students should
be more than 50% for individual program
What is the revised duration of award of
accreditation?
NBA has revised the duration of award of accreditation
3 years of Provisional Accreditation
6 years for Full Accreditation in lieu of present 2 years
Provisional Accreditation
5 years for Full Accreditation.
