Today is Earth Day! Over one billion people in 192 countries are participating from London to Sao Paolo, Seoul to Babylon City, New Delhi to New York, Rome to Cairo; people everywhere are taking action in their communities and helping depict The Face of Climate Change. The Face of Climate Change. Earth Day 4.22.13 #FACEOFCLIMATE

  2. The world is DYING!
  4. YOU are a part of the PROBLEM!
  5. With over 7 BILLION PEOPLE
  6. and... 8.7 BILLION kinds of ANIMAL species.
  7. 29 PERCENT land
  8. and... 71 PERCENT water
  9. PLANET EARTH is the place we call home.
  10. A place that is literally ONE of a kind
  11. with life found nowhere else in the UNIVERSE!
  12. yet, we have a CRISIS on our hands.
  13. INCREASE in natural disasters and extremeweather is...
  14. effecting REAL PEOPLE,ANIMALS, and theENVIRONMENT!
  15. Climate change is not just an ENVIRONMENTALPROBLEM,
  17. Coming from theDEVELOPMENT of todaysrich countries
  18. INCREASE in carbon dioxide andgreen house gasses
  19. from the use of COAL, in ourindustries and factories.
  21. and GASOLINE
  22. are INCREASING the temperature of our planet.
  23. These GREEN HOUSE GASES keepthe heat from escaping theatmosphere
  24. Too much of it is causing NEGATIVE effectson the environment
  25. And yes, even our CARS are adding to thecrisis.
  26. In the past 100 years, the totaltemperature has increased by 1.1DEGREES.
  27. Doesn’t seem like much, but the littlechange in heat is...
  28. change the glaciers to MELT;
  29. INCREASING our sea level by 0.14 inches per year.
  30. still not CONVINCED?
  31. Tell that to this polar bear who could not getback to land due to the MELTING ICE!
  32. Because of the HEAT, precipitation patterns have alsochanged;
  33. causing more RAINFALL.
  34. In turn, FLOODS have been occurring moreFREQUENTLY.
  35. COASTAL CITIES are more likely to flood,
  36. and in less than 50YEARS, some coastal citieswill be UNDERWATER...
  37. meaning more FLOODS to come.
  38. Also, the heat is INCREASING the EVAPORATIONCYCLE
  39. leading to WITHERING CROPS
  40. and more fires due to DRYNESS.
  41. PEOPLE who are being effected the most...
  42. are NOT those adding the most to the CarbonDioxide emission.
  43. It is Affecting those living in undevelopedcountries
  44. Killer diarrheal diseases, malnutrition, malaria, and dengue...
  45. are highly CLIMATE-SENSITIVE and areexpected to WORSEN as the climatechanges.
  46. Areas with WEAK HEALTH infrastructureare the LEAST able to cope and respond.
  47. When natural disasters strike, their ability togrow crops, access water, and feed themselvesWORSENS.
  48. CHILDREN in these areas have an evenharder time to survive.
  49. Due to the change in their environment, many ANIMALS are being IMPACTED too.
  50. Animals like CORAL REEFS are experiencingthe worst of it.
  51. Coral can only survive 77 DEGREES to 84 DEGREES
  52. But because of the heat, 25 PERCENT of the worldscoral reefs have DIED!
  53. In the Indian OCEAN, 90 PERCENT DIEDdue to WARMER WATERS.
  54. Why does this even matter?
  55. Coral reefs actually SUSTAIN underwater lifeand it prevents waves from hitting the coast
  56. According to scientists, coral reefs nurture up toa MILLION SPECIES of marine life.
  57. Without them, our ECO SYSTEM WILL FAIL.
  58. How do we RESPOND?
  59. Unless green house gases DECREASE DRASTICALLY,
  60. MANY will still be impacted.
  61. You are also part of the SOLUTION!
  62. We can make a DIFFERENCE by...
  63. DECREASING your energy use andinvesting in ALTERNATIVE ENERGY.
  64. If every U.S household REPLACED ONEregular incandescent light bulb with acompact fluorescent light bulb,
  65. it would PREVENT the equivalent of 90BILLION POUNDS of green house gasemissions from power plants.
  66. That is like taking out 7.5 MILLIONcars off the road!
  67. Change to SOLAR PANELS, which usesthe suns energy for power.
  68. That can save up to 1,300,000 Pounds ofgreenhouse gas emissions.
  69. Though it is switched off, appliancescontinue to use small amounts of energycalled PHANTOM ENERGY.
  70. Use POWER STRIPS that youcan turn off home appliances thatare not in use.
  71. ONE power strip can reduce greenhouse gas by500 POUNDS a year.
  72. Setting your thermostat just 2 DEGREESlower in winter and higher in summer couldsave about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxideeach year.
  73. RECYCLE as much as you can.
  74. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 POUNDS of carbondioxide annually.
  75. Lastly, use ALTERNATIVE means of TRAVEL...
  76. WALK
  77. BIKE
  78. and use PUBLIC TRANSIT.
  79. Every gallon of gasoline you saved is 20POUNDS less carbon dioxide released.
  80. Imagine what could happen if EVERYONEconserved energy.
  81. Every little thing makes a difference.
