Editor's Notes
Teaching is a challenging and complex activity, which can never be mastered, but can be improved The world is changing rapidly, and education reflects this. We need to learn effectively in order to respond to changes which will affect us and our students Teaching is a learned skill, not dependent on charisma or personality – all teachers can reach excellence
We should avoid 'initiative overload', instead aiming to explore excellence in key areas of practice We should pay attention to research and external expertise – look outside the school for learning
Teachers and subjects are different and have different styles Each individual brings valuable experience, perspective and skills
