Visit to the GIRL FAWKES FESTIVAL (Ladyfest Ten)<br />5/11/10<br />To understand more of the nature of festivals in the creative and media industries, as a class, we arranged to visit in our region. The Girl Fawkes Festival, part of the Ladyfest Ten festival.<br />Girl Fawkes Festival celebrates the bonfire night to a fire-cracking start with a group of performers, fire dancing with poi to promote the festival and then straight on with the explosive mix of live music, poetry and storytelling. Ladyfest Ten is in preparation and Girl Fawkes Festival was a perfect taster for this coming weekend’s festival (Ladyfest Ten).<br />My class and I had the chance to help out as well as experience a little on how the festival is organised as we had to come in the before the festival begun. We had to put out leaflets of the festival in each chair or table. We were given a sheet of paper each, which is the master running order of the event. It is listed with all the events that will be taking place in chronological order. This gave us an idea for our organisation skills for our coursework (unit 6 festival). <br />To promote their festival, they had a group of performers, fire dancing with poi, in the public. I found that this unique way of promotion actually succeeded because as the performance ended, lots of people decided to come to festival and very soon it got crowded.<br />The festival was successful as lots of their target audience came. The target audience for Girl Fawkes Festival was mainly women. They had suitable programmes for their target audience for example performances, arts and craft workshops, coffee lounge, food etc.<br />The staff in the arts and crafts workshop, Nikki, told me the artistic policy of Ladyfest festival is basically celebrating and promoting women’s creativity and talents. They are funded by amazons, swallows and more.<br />Over all I, as well as most members from my class, had a great time at the Girl Fawkes Festival.<br />
