- --\nThere are two main things that drive our society, at large. \nCommerce- The goods and services, their creation, consumption and distribution.\nData - The knowledge or information. \nLets look at our history and see where we have started, and where we have come\n
- --\nThis is where goods and services are produced- farms and foundries. \nFrom there there is a complex distribution channel that got created. \nPeople stared selling them in wholesale shops, and then retail shops, where they are packaged properly.\nAnd then came the super markets where more than one type of goods are services are available.\n
- --\nNow what we are seeing is, big malls- where you can get everything you want (including of-course some entertainment). What is driving all those advancements? \nConvenience - Buy your groceries, dresses, shoes, googles any many more- all at one place. \nConsumablity - You can compare between different brands- try them. Have all the details in the form you understand.\n

- --\nWhat is the medium in how that is distributed? \nInternet - PCs, Laptops and websites for Commerce and Data.\nOf late, we have Samsung - criticizing uncles. \nAnd Sirji, promoting 3G in heaven.\n\nBut here is the problem, most of these apps are still built by the same providers- they are nothing but mobile version of the website.\n

Here is where it is- \nWebsites, is only one form of consuming data. \nIts not that people haven’t realized other channels of distribution. \nThere are people who give FTP dumps to the strategic partners. Yatra is using IRCTC data- but its complicated SOA. \nPeople all over the world are realizing that Open API is an effective way. \nBTW, Open doesn’t always mean free. \nOpen API also helps because, lets say another channel comes in, like tablets or in-car entertainment, where your data or service can be useful - you can very easily cater to that.\n
