Use of Prayer and Scripture in Coginitiv- Behavioral Therapy
Use of Prayer and Scripture in Cognitive–Behavioral Therapy
Integration of Psychology and Theology
Tamala Rivers
February 16, 2012
Summary This article focuses on the use of prayer and scripture in cognitive–behavioral therapy
(CBT). First you must focus on the biblical approach which you acknowledge Gods love and deal
with past hurts in a proper manner. You also must focus on Gods Holy Spirit and his scriptures. As
the therapist you should not be in self, you have to focus on your client. You have to allow God
spirit to be used in the therapy session. There were multiple types of integration that could be used.
Implicit integration which refers to a more covert approach that does not initiate the discussion of

But as he became an adult he turned away from Christ and started living in the secular world. He
and his mother were very close when he was a child but as he became a young adult he started doing
illegal things. So his mother asks him to leave her home and not come back unless he change his
ways. The young man has changed his life and works for a legal firm. But he never had the chance
to show his mother how much he has changed. So he is coming to me for help. I asked the young
man would it be okay for me to pray before we get started. And then I would ask him to first forgive
himself, because that is a heavy burden to carry. Then I would ask him if he believe that God is a
healer. And sense he did come to a church I would hope he would understand that we would talk
about Christ. I would ask him, how would you think your mother would feel if she could see you
now? And hopefully he would feel that she would be proud. I would ask him to think of the good
times they had. I like to just sit and listen to his thoughts and try not to overwhelm him with so
many questions. I would like to know what he was thinking so I could help him the best way I know
how. I would ask God to help me to help him. Because he would know best how to handle this
situation. Because with Gods guidance I know I can handle any situation. He is always there for me
when I need him, so I know he wouldn't fail me now. So hopefully he would get something out of
this session and not feel

Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources
Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be
a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. "For centuries, libraries
have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the
greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses.
(Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand
themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and
the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other
agencies devoted to education and information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that,
"Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with
partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations."
(2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible
information. #Learning Commons The year of the Learning Commons is ablaze on social media.
Teacher–librarians are embracing technology as a way to reach new audiences and share resources.
The social media of choice for these tech savvy teachers is Twitter, and their hashtag is YearLC.
(Loertscher, D., & Koechlin, C., 2015) Twitter is being used as a marketing tool to rebrand

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Experimentation
"Studies published in prestigious medical journals have shown time and again that animal
experimenters are often wasting lives–both animal and human–and precious resources by trying to
infect animals with diseases that they would never normally contract (Animal Rights)." This
upsetting fact could be prevented if laws were passed to end animal testing. Animal experimentation
should be made illegal because innocent animals are being harmed and or killed daily, medicines do
not have the same effect on animals as they do people, and animal experimentation is expensive.
To get a better understanding as to why animal experimentation should be illegal, one must consider
the opposition. Many argue that making animal experimentation illegal will negatively effect the
way further physicians are trained. However, alternative options could be taken in order to train
rising physicians. According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, "nearly 95 percent
of U.S. medical schools [...] do not use any animals to train medical students [...]" ("Animal Testing
Is"). Most schools have proven to be able to train students that want to pursue a future job in the
medical field, without having to use animals throughout their teachings.
One reason why animal experimentation should be illegal is because innocent animals are being
caused terrible pain and killed daily. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible
Medicine, the number of animals being tested on in the United States is

The Effects Of Radiation Exposure On Medical Radiation
Why is this a problem
About 15% of the ionizing radiation exposure to the people comes from man–made sources and
almost all of these exposures are due to medical radiation, which is vastly from diagnostic and
therapeutic sources(9). Out of 3 mSv annual global per caput effective dose (2000), 2.4 mSv is from
natural background and 0.4 mSv from diagnostic medical exams(5,9). and since then many new
therapeutic and diagnostic methods have been implemented making the exposure dose due to
medical radiation to go up. The problem with this increase is that elevated risk of radiation–related
cancers such as of the thyroid, salivary gland, central nervous system, skin, and breast as well as
leukemia.(1,6) because of these observed risks the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there are recommendations and guidelines they are modified by criteria where the patient
is at high risk for dental caries(9).
How to minimize dose
Dental X–rays accounts for about 2.5 percent of the effective dose from all forms of medical
radiographs (75). As previously discussed, dental radiation exposure is low; but, it is the dentists'
responsibility to follow the guidelines such as ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) and
ALADA (As Low as Diagnostically Acceptable) principles(3). Some of the ways that can that be
helpful in minimizing dosage are use of the fastest image receptor compatible with the diagnostic
task (F–speed film or digital)(1), proper film exposure and processing techniques, collimation of the
beam to the size of the receptor, use of protective aprons and thyroid collars, (8) and limiting the
number of images obtained to the minimum necessary to obtain essential diagnostic information.
Frequency of exams
As previously mentioned Dental professionals need to carefully examine the patient health history,
oral clinical observation and caries risk assessment to determine if radiographs are necessary and
keep the exposure ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable). When it comes to determining
caries, a (child/adolescent) patient with clinical caries and increased risk will need Posterior
bitewing exam at 6–12 month

Carl Rogers: One of the Founding Fathers of Humanism Essay
As one of the founding fathers of humanism, Carl Rogers was very interested in an approach to
psychology that had to do with the thoughts and feelings of clients (notice that the word patient is
sparsely used). His feelings on resourceful therapy were always centered around the client and how
they wanted the therapy to affect their life. In humanistic psychology, the main focus is allowing the
client to decide how the therapy would direct them on their own life. Carl Rogers, as with many
other humanistic psychologists, believe in keeping the values and morals of the clients in tact. They
do not judge their clients, and they try to stay as positive as possible in their therapy sessions with
the clientele.
Carl Rogers was born the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

creating his own theories and analysis' of how his clients should be treated and respected. He created
his own set of theories, known as the Nineteen Propositions, and widely popular client–centered
therapy. Rogers' accomplishments were much more than awards he received for his personal
endeavors. This man genuinely cared about the lives of others, and always had a heart for wanting to
see them succeed. In 1946 Rogers became the president of the largest professional psychology
organization in the world, the American Psychology Association. After he became president, he
released several books, his two most popular being Client–Centered Therapy (1951) and Becoming
a Person (1961). In 1962 he was awarded Humanist of the Year by the American Humanist
Association, and in 1972 he was given the Professional Psychologist Award, which was given by the
Division of Psychotherapy (Hothersall, 1995). In Rogers' 1961 book This is Me, he tells the story of
a boy who is very troubled. Rogers was unable to help this young boy, but the mother knew that
Rogers was doing everything he could. At their last session, the mother asked if Rogers took adult
clients. When Rogers said yes, she immediately sat back down and began to tell him everything she
was going through, which included marriage

Essay Salaries in Major League Baseball
Salaries in Major League Baseball
Every year, it becomes more obvious that many sports in America have problems. For years,
Hockey has been criticized for its excessive violence. The National Football League has also been
scrutinized for this reason as well as the fact that many of the top players have constantly been in
trouble with the law. Major League Baseball is no different. The situation with baseball is more
complicated, and is not only ruining the game itself, but also drawing millions of fans away from the
sport. The biggest problem is with the high salaries paid to athletes. These salaries are taking the
competitiveness out of several sports, especially baseball, where there is no salary cap. Action must

They merely raise the ticket prices a few dollars and make twice the amount of the athletes. The fans
that come to watch the athletes and who pay nearly $20 to get in the ballpark are padding the
pockets of these owners. Statistics taken from online site http://cnnfn.cnn.com/2001
/03/30/news/baseball/ show that baseball ticket prices have gone up from $16.67 to $18.99 in just
one year. A quote from the same online site http://cnnfn.cnn.com/2001/03/30/news /baseball/ wrote
by Chris Isidore says, "Baseball fans going through the turnstiles on opening day across the nation
Monday will be paying about 13 percent more than they did last year, according to a survey of
prices…The increase makes baseball the sport with the fastest growing prices." Baseball in
the United States is no longer America's Pastime. Baseball has changed to a high priced business,
where average players make millions and above average players make tens of millions. To make the
situation even worse, the dumbfounded owners and greedy sports agents who contaminate the game
and the talented young athletes playing in it, control this business. Many fans throughout the U.S.
blame the high priced contracts on the athletes, but they are not the source of the problem. In a
sense, the athletes are just getting their piece of the pie. What the athletes make

The Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, in which the pancreas does not produce insulin. It
usually begins in childhood or adolescence. In Type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys
beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that converts sugar, starches, and
food into energy. Without insulin, blood glucose levels become too high, which is known as
hyperglycemia. To prevent hyperglycemia, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to
survive. Genetic and environmental factors affect the onset of Type 1 diabetes. [1] According to the
American Diabetes Association, a predisposition to Type 1 diabetes is ... Show more content on

The research on the affect of viruses in triggering Type 1 diabetes is inconclusive, and some is even
contradictory. Some researchers have also found that viruses may prevent Type 1 diabetes. Scientists
at Joslin Diabetes Center add trauma as a potential trigger of Type 1 diabetes. A traumatic event,
such as a body trauma or a car crash, increases the body's insulin requirement and strains the
pancreas. [5] Dr. James H. Warram at the Joslin Diabetes Center concluded that the trauma does not
cause diabetes, but it can trigger the onset of the disease.
Another possible environmental cause of Type 1 diabetes is early diet. Breastfeeding for at least
three months has shown to decrease the risk of Type 1 diabetes, and a diet including cow's milk
before the age of one year old may increase the risk of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association
reports that the onset of Type 1 diabetes occurs more often in winter than in summer. It is also more
prevalent in cold climates. This leads researchers to conclude that cold weather may be a possible
trigger of Type 1 diabetes, as well. [6] Dr. Andrew Weil (2014) explains that in addition, "Weather
has an impact on eating and exercise habits, which can in turn influence how well you're able to
control your blood sugar." (drweil.com, 2014) The phenotype for Type 1 diabetes includes the
presence of autoantibodies in the body. [7] These autoantibodies prevent the pancreas from

The Importance Of The Indole Test
The indole test is a test that determines the ability of an organism to separate from the tryptophan
molecule. The organism Enterobacter aerogenes is aseptically removed from an agar slant and

red color, and if there was no color change then the results would be negative. The next tests are the

formed and then detected with different reagents will show the difference. The methyl red test is a
test performed to detect the ability of the organism E. aerogenes to produce mixed–acid
fermentation from supplied glucose. By aseptically using the inoculating loop, one broth is
inoculated with the organism E. aerogenes. The other broth is left inoculated for now. The broths are

The Dust Bowl Of Tarrant County College
Tarrant County College has a traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl that is sponsored by Ohio State
Library, American Library Association, Mount Holyoke, and the National Endowment for the
Humanities. This traveling exhibit is in a decent location, has a great display, and gives out a lot of
information about the Dust Bowl. This traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl is located in the
Tarrant County College Southeast Campus library in Arlington, Texas. It is located off of Highway
360. The exhibit is located in the library in the main building on the first floor. When one walks into
the library they would walk past the front desk as if they were going to the back of the library. After
the front desk they would pass the computers and behind the computers is where the exhibit is. The
exhibit about the Dust Bowl is in a good location because it is in the library where most students go
daily. The location can also be considered a bad location because it is not easily seen from the door
and one has to be looking for it to find it. The exhibit should be advertised to let more people know
about it and tell them what it is near in the library. The traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl has
twelve different displays. Ten of the displays are set up in a circular formation with numbers on the
bottom. On each of these displays there are pictures and information on the front and back of them.

Reflection Paper On Dietetics
This fall semester I had the pleasure of taking NHM 195 and fascinating and exciting is probably an
understatement about the class. From day one I was intrigued by the new ideas and facts about
dietetics. I liked the real life lectures we had a chance of watching and the medical dictionary
exercises that have absolutely sharpened my medical vocabulary immensely. In this class we learned
about the three different types of dietetic programs: Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD,
Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP), and Dietetic technician program (DT). The DPD is the
educational requirements all students wanting a career in dietetics. The program usually takes four

My Future:The Effects of Being a Med Student
The life of a medical student can almost be seen as a burden. To be a physician, science and
mathematics based classes should be taken in college. The American Medical Association website
states that anyone wanting to be in the medical field should do the following, "four years at a college
or university to earn a BS or BA degree, usually with a strong emphasis on basic sciences, such as
biology, chemistry, and physics." Later on in the article it states that the next programs to enroll in
after college are medical school, a residency program and fellowship. The medical field requires so

students. At times this pressure can becomes too much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Damsels in distress are not just found in fairy tales anymore, they can be found in reality as well. A
damsel in distress is someone in need of saving and in the medical field there are a lot of them. The
training to be in the medical field is where the problem lays, not the outcome. Medical students are
the victims of this fairy tale notion. These students face a tremendous amount of stress which puts
them in distress. Those two combinations can lead to deadly outcome for the medical students Such
as depression.
As said by a Mayo Clinic Study, "students enter medical school with mental health profiles similar
to their peers from college, but they begin to show higher rates of mental distress as they progress
through medical school. The same study found that the most depressed students often are the least
likely to reach out for help because of stigma related to mental illness" (Greenberg). Rebecca
Greenberg continued her article on by saying," With students showing such high levels of distress,
Lisolette Dyrbye M.D, said the burden of seeking help should not fall on them alone, adding that
institutions should play an active role in helping students handle depression." Numerous studies
have shown the correlation between the medical field and depression.

they walk into medical school. Most people believe that the first year of

Why I Become A Nurse
Why I Want to Become A Nurse
When people ask me the question, "Jas, why do you want to be a nurse?" The first answer that
comes to mind would be the generic answer, "Because I want to help people." However, during the
process of being in Lower Division and competing with almost 400 other students with the hopes of
being accepted into Upper Division my mindset has changed. After studying my hardest through
each class I am in and overcoming the challenges that come with each one, I am more determined
than ever to be a nurse, more specifically a Traveling Registered Nurse, and I will not let anything
stop me from reaching that goal. Ever since I was younger my parents have taught me to share, be
caring, and always have a giving heart. As I went through high school I knew I wanted to be in the
medical profession but I could not decide where. After attending a Career Center for two years and
attaining my certification to be a Nursing Assistant, I knew nursing was the career I wanted to
pursue. Nursing was the best fit for my personal values, financial commitment of the present and the
future, and the ability to travel. According to the American Nurses Association (2015), nursing is
described as the prevention of illness and injury while alleviating any suffering through the
diagnosis and treatment of an individual. Nurses will also advocate for the care of each individual,
families, communities, and even populations (American Nursing Association, 2015). All the

Euthanasia: Why It Should Be Legal
In the past, a doctor was a friend who treated the diseases. Now a doctor is a stranger who combats
diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient's quality of life. Lots
of times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient has a terminal
disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very painful for both the
patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the request of the dying
person is violating a person's rights, interfering with a doctor's job, and increasing suffering.
First off, deciding if someone wants to be alive or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are just wasting time and money on a situation that won't get better. If the patient wants
euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money
wasted on a treatment that won't help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family
members and taxpayers.
Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. "I am only doing what
I, as a physician, should do". (Kevorkian 170) It doesn't make sense that they can keep someone
alive without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. "Many
patients now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and
often cause different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all". (Marzilli 69) The doctor
is just the person who helps the patient to do what they desire.
Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it can
achieve its design of saving life. "On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some
patients–if the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case–then
death constitutes a moral good for these patients". (Doyal) Incompetent patients are unable to
benefit from further treatment or find it too large of a burden if they cannot benefit from being alive
any longer. When the continuing use of life sustaining treatment is to be of no benefit or of too much
burden, the doctor

Humanistic Therapy Theory
The therapeutic approach I have chosen to help Maggie overcome her depression is humanistic
therapy. I chose humanistic therapy because first, I like the idea of creating a relationship with your
client to enhance their self–worth. Second, I like how the therapist genuinely cares about the patient
and doesn't necessarily have to prescribe medications or just see their patient as another dollar sign.
The humanistic approach is different than the psychodynamic approach because humanist tend to
listen to what their patients have to say and the patient will direct where the therapy session will
lead. However, a psychodynamic therapist already has a conversation thought out and he or she will
determine where the therapy session will go. As a humanistic therapist, the main issues I need to
discuss is her work life, attitudes towards friends or loved ones, and her inner thoughts. To start off,
the first red flag that I see observing Maggie's case is her occupation. She is said to always strive for
the best when it comes to being a medical resident. However, continuously doing work without
having time for herself could be a real problem sanity wise. Furthermore, she has been with irritable
and snippy to her coworkers especially her husband. If she continues this behavior she might lose a
bond with her work colleagues and loved ones. Lastly, her personal thoughts about her performance
or behavior could be draining on a person with depression. When these negative thoughts continue
to circulate especially with her condition it could influence her to distance herself and probably push
her to suicide. The humanistic approach would view and understand by looking at the person from a
whole perspective, instead of a specific point of view shown through sessions by observing their
behavior. Humanists view Maggie's depression as what is holding her back from becoming the best
version of herself. Humanists would believe that Maggie's depression is a result of her inability to
cope with personal circumstances or her inability to have balance in her life. Humanists would
understand her depression by listening to her thoughts and feelings. Maggie is the conductor of the
conversation and humanistic therapists are the listeners

What Do I Do Now? New Graduates
After all your hard work, when you graduate you still have to make possibly the most important
decision of your career– what do I do now ? New graduates have many options available to them:
Practice Ownership
Associate in a small/Solo Practice
Associate in a large Group Practice
Public Health
Specialization
'Corporate' Dentistry
As the dental industry in America continues to thrive, employment prospects for new graduates are
looking better than ever. The Department of Labor projects an increase of 16% in the number of
dentists by 2022, with an average median annual salary of around $150,000 a year.
Dentists emerging into the workforce today are seeing greater changes in career and employment
choices than ever before. Back in 1950, only half a percent of dentists were employed by someone
else. By 2009 that number had grown to 17%, and for new dentists, 44% were employees.
According to the American Dental Association, the number of small private 'cottage' practices is also
declining, and new graduates are now three times as likely to be employed in a large group practice
compared to a decade ago.
A major factor contributing to that rise is the rapid growth of Dental Service Organizations. Also
known as Dental Management Organizations, Dental Practice Managements and Dental
Management Service Organizations, these companies are here to stay. They currently account for
10–15% of the dental market and are expected to grow to 20–30% in the short term. The need

Mlb And Steroids Is Not An Enforcement Agent
Mlb and steroids
Introduction
This presentation will be evaluating and answering the following questions:
Could MLB argue that it is not an enforcement agent, and it has no way of determining whether
every player is using steroids at any given time?
Does this argument excuse any responsibility on the part of MLB?
Do you see any rationalizations for the steroid use or the lack of an effective policy on its use in
MLB?
What is the responsibility of MLB and the players to young people who are using steroids?
Discuss the Canseco allegations that MLB just wanted revenue and turned a blind eye to steroid use.
Apply the various social responsibility theories to this point and discuss the flaws in this competitive
model
No! The MLB could not argue that it is not an enforcement agent, due to the fact that Congress was
already investigating all sports, and found out at every level, drugs were being used. Chairman
Staggers did not want the information leaked out to the public being worried that it would increase
the amount of teenagers using steroids. The Committee Chairman went to "the ...Baseball
Commissioner Bowie Kuhn to consider instituting tough penalties and testing, and he trusted
Commissioner Kuhn to do that" (Jennings, 2012, p. 139). In spite of this, three decades went by and

Compare And Contrast Civilizations And Worldviews
A worldview can be defined as one's perspective of life and the events that occur. A worldview is
how one describes the world around them. Worldviews can differ in a multitude of different ways.
Different worldviews value and seek different things. Some worldviews value intelligence while
others value servitude. All civilizations have worldviews and these worldviews affect these
civilizations in contrasting ways. Some worldviews shape the civilizations culture and values. In
many of the early civilizations worldviews took center stage in everything the civilization did.
One of the first civilizations was located in the river valley of Mesopotamia. The Mesopotamians
held a mythological worldview. This worldview was described in detail in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh exhibits this mythological worldview when he describes the world around him and when
he attempts to speak to his many gods. Gilgamesh and the Mesopotamian people had religion and
myth at the center of their worldview and lives. Everything that the Mesopotamians did revolved
around their gods. The mountain, the sun, the moon, and the wind were all supposedly gods in their
worldview. This belief was how the Mesopotamians explained the natural world and phenomenons
that occurred around them. The mythological worldview begins to take shape in The Epic of
Gilgamesh, when Gilgamesh is pleading with the gods for help. One of the important things to
remember about a mythological worldview is that it includes the gods

Mirandola Humanism
Throughout the fourteen to seventeen hundredth century, history has shown the miraculous shift of
cultural and social aspects of society from medieval ages to modernize times. This period is known
as the Renaissance or rebirth of European civilization. It was time of advancement in education, arts,
and individual worth and potential. One of the largest and most influential ideas that came about
during this time was Humanism. Humanism is the importance of the value and capabilities of human
beings rather than the acceptance of superstition. It is a word that sums up the overall meaning of
secularism, human progress, and independence. Renaissance humanism was a movement that

During the coming of age in the Renaissance, humans were seen as the creatures having the closest
connection to God, dominance of the lower creatures, the middleman between angels and animals,
and the critic of nature. These were the reasons that enlightened people of human's great and

more magnificent than us humans. "For, if these are all the reasons we can come out with, why

It would be best to use a multifaceted approach to Mr. Yoder's discharge planning. We can use the
help of his son as well as any support groups in the community and continue to implement the help
of a home health nurse. Focusing on how Mr. Yoder retains information best will be important here.
We can alter our teaching methods to match his needs. It will also be important to focus on his
readiness to learn. Using a multitude of techniques in Mr. Yoder's plan of care will help him be
successful in his discharge from the hospital. Implementing the assistance of community–focused
programs can help give Mr. Yoder companionship. Support programs with the agencies on aging can
be informative and helpful (www.agingcare.com, 2015). They can assist with getting patients to
doctors appointment, planning meals, and offer support, which Mr. Yoder would benefit from all of
those. Jon, Mr. Yoder's son can also assist in educating and re–enforcing things to help Mr. Yoder
remember what needs to be done, assisting him with his own accountability for his health. With the
help of his son Jon, we can give him other people to help be accountable for his healthcare. To
measure Mr. Yoder's goals we can look at obtaining the number of times each week that he is able to
leave the house or have assistance come in.

How A Tight Library Budget Has Helped A Very Lean...
A tight library budget has led to a very lean employment model at the Newtown Public Library.
There is very little overlap in coverage on the reference desk. The two part–time reference librarians
at this library also work in other area libraries. Because these employees are only part time and work
in other libraries, it is difficult for them to spend a vast amount of time memorizing reference
procedures. Additionally, this lack of time makes it difficult to keep up with changes in various
technology. The head of the Reference Department would like to arrange a departmental "reference

Utilize Web 2.0 tools to enhance CMS (Dahl, 2009, pg. 210)
Introduction– Communication
Problems of communication in the library are inherent. To avoid disruption in smooth library
administration due to communication breakdown, department heads should maintain informal and
formal contact regularly with the staff to ensure they are well informed of all activities occurring
within the department. Additionally, the head of the department should continue to keep the head of
the library informed of all reference department activities to ensure that everyone is on the same
page. (Etebu, 2010, pg. 2–3)
Furthermore, staff training is crucial to the proper administration of daily library tasks.
Administrative support is crucial for training to be effective; providing workshops for professional
librarians and giving them time to attend training is critical. Administrators must understand the
importance of training should develop staff policies that demonstrate a commitment towards staff
development. Most staff want training because it increases their knowledge and skills needed for
their job. Many librarians feel out of the loop with technology and online training would be helpful.
Some librarians enjoy online webcasts of seminars while others enjoy self–paced

A Humanist Society Of New Mexico
What is a humanist? Many people do not think about what defines a humanist. Kurt Vonnegut put it
shortly: "Being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or
punishment after you are dead." Though it isn 't what anyone will find in Webster 's Dictionary, it is
a simple statement that informs the world of what these individuals believe. Humanists feel very
strongly about the importance of human life and the utilization of the time you spend on Earth.
Fredric March, President of the Humanist Society of New Mexico, describes his opinion of the
humanist social agenda as: "...freedom of religion and freedom from religion..." (March 19). He later
states that they feel strongly about social equality, secular democracy, and the health of our
ecosystem. March also describes investigation of religion. He believes that cognitive science
explains all questions unanswered while individuals question what the believe in. While they depend
on cognitive science for some religious inquiries, humanists see fault in our political motives and
actions (March 16). Nigel Tubbs feels that Capitalism abates the value of each humans life, and stirs
greed causing desecration of the natural environment. He believes that citizens are dehumanized by
the non–secular government and the needs of of those who are supposed to be served are replaced
(Tubbs 478). So how do humanist react to society and other religions? Ryan Kemp's statements

Kingdom of Heaven Analysis Essay
This is my longer analysis of the Kingdom of Heaven. Appreciate any feedback. [SPOILER
WARNING]
The Kingdom of Heaven is an anti–religion humanist epic. The moral of the story is that humanism
is better than religion. KOH uses a traditional storytelling formula designed to convince people to
reject a particular belief or worldview. A sympathetic hero begins the story believing in the
worldview the screenwriter wants to discredit. After seeing the worldview for what it really is
(according to the storyteller at least), the hero reluctantly rejects that worldview in favor of one the
screenwriter wants to endorse. In this case the hero, Balian, starts as a Christian. Through the
tribulations of a crusade, he bravely and nobly becomes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The most explicit expression of humanism is in a dialogue between Balian and a wise knight,
identified only as the Hospitaler (an medieval order of knight–monks):
Hospitaler:
How do you find Jerusalem?
Balian:
God does not speak to me. Not even on the hill where Christ died. I am outside of God´s grace.
Hospitaler:
I have not heard that.
Balian:
At any rate, it seems that I have lost my religion.
Hospitaler:
I put no stock in religion. By the word "œreligion" I´ve seen the lunacy of fanatics of every
denomination be called the will of God. Holiness is in right action and courage on behalf of those
who cannot defend themselves. And goodness, what God desires, is here [pointing to Balian´s head]
and here [pointing to Balian´s heart]. By what you decide every day, you will be a good man. Or
not.
The statement "œI put no stock in religion" sums up the whole movie. The Hospilater´s statement
that fanatics use the "œwill of God" as an excuse for any action is supported at several points in
the movie where both Christians

Essay about Comparison of McCarthyism and the U.S. Patriot...
Through the 1940s and 1950s, America was beleaguered with anxieties about the menace of
communism arising in Eastern Europe and China. Profiting out of such worries of the nation, young
Senator Joseph McCarthy made an open charge that hundreds of "card–carrying" communists had
penetrate in the United States government. Although his allegations were found ultimately to be
false and the Senate reproached him for improper ways, his ardent shakeup heralded as one of the
most tyrannical era in 20th–century American politics. While the House Un–American Activities
Committee (HUAA) had been made in 1938 as a body to resist communists, McCarthy's charges

Communist Party and other left–leaning political pressure lobbies in the Unites States. It was
decided that the HUAC had been set up by Congress in 1938 to examine people distrusted of being
unpatriotic and hence more bent to oust the government (McCarthysm, spartacus.schoolnet.co).
Modern researches, of course, show opposing viewpoints about McCarthysm as interpreted during

The Basketball Association And The Nba
The National Basketball Association, or the NBA, is a men's professional basketball league in the
USA. The National Basketball Association was born in 1949 after the Basketball Association of
America and the National Basketball League merged as one. Maurice Podoloff was elected head of
the new league that consisted of seventeen teams which came from cities and towns all across the
country. The NBA did not have a great start with its teams dwindling to only eight teams in the
1950s. At this point, the league transformed the game with the addition of the shot clock. The shot
clock in the NBA is 24 seconds, meaning the offensive team has 24 seconds from the time they
inbound the ball until the ball hits the rim on their side of the court. This addition increased the pace
of the game and made it more fun for fans to watch. Their transformation worked, and the league
returned to a financially stable one in the 1960/70s. Today, the NBA has millions of fans from all
walks of life, all over the world. The league now consists of 30 teams from various states in North
America as well as one team from Canada. The teams are divided into two conferences and then
three divisions of five teams each. To play the sport of basketball there are players; five on the court
at a time, coaches, a basketball, two hoops, high–top shoes to protect player's ankles, and a court
with specific lines painted out to represent boundaries.

Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay
As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high
school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers' daydreams becomes concrete and frightening:
the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want
to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the
daunting task of preparing for one's future is suddenly presented, and everything one has
accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task:
applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are
admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post–high school institutions, Rice
University and the University of California– Berkeley, will be compared based on these aspects. As
a primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to
decide if a college is suitable for one's academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University
consist of "either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of
study, or the ACT Plus Writing test" ("Standardized Testing") in addition to: a high school transcript,

The Psychology Of Conversion Therapy
What Conversation Therapy Actually Does
While reading "Hard Rock Return to Prison" by Etheridge Knight one may start to think of the
effects of correcting or convert someone's behavior to a more "favorable" one. This idea is present in
today's society and to better understand this believe and practice one will have to explore the
psychology of conversion therapy. Conversion Therapy or reparative therapy is a "range of
dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person's sexual orientation or
gender identity or expression" (Human Rights Campaign). This defines what Hard Rock experiences
in this poem and to further understand and deepen ones understand modern psychology and
medicine offer a way of explain this. Through explore the effects and what happens to someone
during correction therapy one can be educated more on Hard Rock.
Conversion therapy which is primary used to convert homosexual or bisexual males and females to
become heterosexual has been proven not to work by many modern day experts in the field of
psychology and psychiatry. David Michael Conner, a writer for the Huffington Post in the LGBQ
department, explains conversion therapy as the following "It involves electrocuting and drugging
LGBT people to make them suffer while looking at homosexual pornography in order to "convert"
them to heterosexuality" (Conner). Those who are homosexual are tortured in attempts to correct
them of their "illness".

Humanism Essay
Humanism
Encarta Dictionary says that Humanism is a system of thought that centers on human beings and
their values, capacities and worth. Encarta also goes on the say that, in philosophy, humanism is an
attitude that emphasizes the dignity and worth of an individual. A basic premise of humanism is that
people are rational beings who possess within themselves the capacity for truth and goodness. I see
myself as a being a humanist through everyday life. I always try to see the good in a person when
he/she makes me angry or sad, and say I to myself that maybe that person has had a bad day and
living life is difficult at the moment. Socrates was even an early humanist of sorts. He can be quoted
as saying, "to know the good is to do the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those human rights are the right to health, freedom, spirituality and so on. Today more than 60
countries promote humanist groups.
Money, violence and discrimination today dominate society, and the Humanist Movement is trying
to stop these obsessions from leading our everyday lives. The effort of these groups is to have a
radical transformation in social, political and personal fields. All these changes must be made in a
non–violent way as to preserve our existence with dignity.
Without knowing it, we have all experienced humanism within out lives: working with counselors,
psychologists and even teachers. Most of them want to help us find the good within ourselves. A
teacher, when one was younger, tried to show one right from wrong; a counselor tries to help people
work through problems, such as showing one that he/she is a person that is good. Even a friend can
make a comment that makes one feel proud for something kind that one did. These are all
humanistic approaches to life, perhaps not practiced all the time by these people, but practiced
nonetheless.
In conclusion, to practice humanism is to spread kindness and peace each day and to not let the
minor, snippy remarks and crabbiness of others bother us. We must try to realize that this person
might be having a bad day or be experiencing a loss or hardship. This may be

Therefore, aspartame (APM) in diet soda can lead to cancer and the risk of developing carcinogenic
effects increase in those who have a life span exposure to APM.
In addition to aspartame in diet soda contributing to cancer, it also causes memory loss. Carbonated
beverages began containing aspartame in 1983, after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
approved it (Gold, 1995). Aspartame contains 40% aspartic acid, which is an amino acid that
increases the level of aspartate and glutamate in blood plasma, according to Gold (1995). This
increase of aspartate, as explained by Gold (1995), causes over stimulation of the nerves by acting
within the brain as neurotransmitters, which aid in sending and receiving information between
neurons. Aspartate increases the possibility of destroying the cell surface's membrane on the
opposite side of the area between nerve cells (where transmission of nerve impulses occur) in the
brain (Humphries, Prestorius, & Naude, 2008). As a result, excessive aspartate or glutamate can

causing memory loss.
Besides diet soda developing an effect on memory loss, the aspartame in diet soda can lead to

aspartame can cause cravings for consumption of

Reflection On Being A Dietitian
My journey to become a registered dietitian has been longer and maybe more complex than the
average college students. As a first–generation college student I was faced with many challenges
that to this day have shaped me in a unique way as a dietitian. During this year of my internship, I
want to be able to reflect on my own growth, strengths and weaknesses and be open to feedback to
improve as a dietitian.
Strengths
As a future dietitian, I can see in myself that I am passionate to work with he Hispanic community,
utilizing my Spanish speaking skills and working with low socioeconomic populations. Growing up
as low socioeconomic Hispanic community, I feel that I can relate to my community more than the
average health professional. I love working with children and getting to know them and their family.
As a health professional that will be working with trying to change dietary lifestyles, I think that
having that cultural competency with this particular community will always be useful. My Spanish
skills can help me gain the confidence of some of my patients or clients and find better ways to
assess their needs.
Another one of my current strengths would be that I am very detail oriented and specially in a
clinical setting, can be quite useful. Being able to pay attention to minor details can be the best way
to assess a patient and find the best method of working with them.
Furthermore, as an undergraduate student, I made sure to explore various areas of nutrition

Formation Of Government: Voucher System In The United States
Antonio Lopez Formation of Government essay 3rd Hour 12/2/2016 Formation of Government I
believe that the ideals of the founding fathers have diminished because many people don't have the
freedom that they should, people are racist, and not as many people seem to believe it is necessary to
vote anymore. These ideals include liberty, self–government, and equality. Liberty has diminished at
work because employees are getting hired as part time so that business do not have to give out
benefits. According to Mary Williams who reported to the New York times, Employees have been
timed while using the bathroom, and disciplinary points are given for frequent use of the restrooms.
Also it has been reported that supervisors have hunted down employees if they take too long.
Americans are losing the "right to live". This is because An opportunity for affordable education is
disappearing which is a direct link to a long life. Medicare has decreased mortality of Americans
ages 65 and older by 13%. But corporations are trying to replace medicare. This replacement will be
a voucher system which will provide less coverage and the eligible age for it will be increased. This
means that the loss of life in the elderly will increase. We are also losing or right to live or travel
anywhere. The main reason for this is the 16 million underwater homes in the US. These homes are
worth about 1.2 trillion dollars. This is due to realtors pulling in homeowners into mortgages they
can not afford.

Use Of Prayer And Scripture In Coginitiv- Behavioral Therapy

  • 1. Use of Prayer and Scripture in Coginitiv- Behavioral Therapy Use of Prayer and Scripture in Cognitive–Behavioral Therapy Integration of Psychology and Theology Tamala Rivers February 16, 2012 Summary This article focuses on the use of prayer and scripture in cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT). First you must focus on the biblical approach which you acknowledge Gods love and deal with past hurts in a proper manner. You also must focus on Gods Holy Spirit and his scriptures. As the therapist you should not be in self, you have to focus on your client. You have to allow God spirit to be used in the therapy session. There were multiple types of integration that could be used. Implicit integration which refers to a more covert approach that does not initiate the discussion of religious or ... He and his mother were very close when he was a child but as he became a young adult he started doing illegal things. So his mother asks him to leave her home and not come back unless he change his ways. The young man has changed his life and works for a legal firm. But he never had the chance to show his mother how much he has changed. So he is coming to me for help. I asked the young man would it be okay for me to pray before we get started. And then I would ask him to first forgive himself, because that is a heavy burden to carry. Then I would ask him if he believe that God is a healer. And sense he did come to a church I would hope he would understand that we would talk about Christ. I would ask him, how would you think your mother would feel if she could see you now? And hopefully he would feel that she would be proud. I would ask him to think of the good times they had. I like to just sit and listen to his thoughts and try not to overwhelm him with so many questions. I would like to know what he was thinking so I could help him the best way I know how. I would ask God to help me to help him. Because he would know best how to handle this situation. Because with Gods guidance I know I can handle any situation. He is always there for me when I need him, so I know he wouldn't fail me now. So hopefully he would get something out of this session and not feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. "For centuries, libraries have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses. (Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other agencies devoted to education and information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that, "Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations." (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible information. #Learning Commons The year of the Learning Commons is ablaze on social media. Teacher–librarians are embracing technology as a way to reach new audiences and share resources. The social media of choice for these tech savvy teachers is Twitter, and their hashtag is YearLC. • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Experimentation "Studies published in prestigious medical journals have shown time and again that animal experimenters are often wasting lives–both animal and human–and precious resources by trying to infect animals with diseases that they would never normally contract (Animal Rights)." This upsetting fact could be prevented if laws were passed to end animal testing. Animal experimentation should be made illegal because innocent animals are being harmed and or killed daily, medicines do not have the same effect on animals as they do people, and animal experimentation is expensive. To get a better understanding as to why animal experimentation should be illegal, one must consider the opposition. Many argue that making animal experimentation illegal will negatively effect the way further physicians are trained. However, alternative options could be taken in order to train rising physicians. According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, "nearly 95 percent of U.S. medical schools [...] do not use any animals to train medical students [...]" ("Animal Testing Is"). Most schools have proven to be able to train students that want to pursue a future job in the medical field, without having to use animals throughout their teachings. One reason why animal experimentation should be illegal is because innocent animals are being caused terrible pain and killed daily. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the number of animals being tested on in the United States is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Radiation Exposure On Medical Radiation Why is this a problem About 15% of the ionizing radiation exposure to the people comes from man–made sources and almost all of these exposures are due to medical radiation, which is vastly from diagnostic and therapeutic sources(9). Out of 3 mSv annual global per caput effective dose (2000), 2.4 mSv is from natural background and 0.4 mSv from diagnostic medical exams(5,9). and since then many new therapeutic and diagnostic methods have been implemented making the exposure dose due to medical radiation to go up. How to minimize dose Dental X–rays accounts for about 2.5 percent of the effective dose from all forms of medical radiographs (75). As previously discussed, dental radiation exposure is low; but, it is the dentists' responsibility to follow the guidelines such as ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) and ALADA (As Low as Diagnostically Acceptable) principles(3). Some of the ways that can that be helpful in minimizing dosage are use of the fastest image receptor compatible with the diagnostic task (F–speed film or digital)(1), proper film exposure and processing techniques, collimation of the beam to the size of the receptor, use of protective aprons and thyroid collars, (8) and limiting the number of images obtained to the minimum necessary to obtain essential diagnostic information. Frequency of exams As previously mentioned Dental professionals need to carefully examine the patient health history, oral clinical observation and caries risk assessment to determine if radiographs are necessary and keep the exposure ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable). • 9. Carl Rogers: One of the Founding Fathers of Humanism Essay As one of the founding fathers of humanism, Carl Rogers was very interested in an approach to psychology that had to do with the thoughts and feelings of clients (notice that the word patient is sparsely used). His feelings on resourceful therapy were always centered around the client and how they wanted the therapy to affect their life. In humanistic psychology, the main focus is allowing the client to decide how the therapy would direct them on their own life. Carl Rogers, as with many other humanistic psychologists, believe in keeping the values and morals of the clients in tact. They do not judge their clients, and they try to stay as positive as possible in their therapy sessions with the clientele. Carl Rogers was born the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rogers' accomplishments were much more than awards he received for his personal endeavors. This man genuinely cared about the lives of others, and always had a heart for wanting to see them succeed. In 1946 Rogers became the president of the largest professional psychology organization in the world, the American Psychology Association. After he became president, he released several books, his two most popular being Client–Centered Therapy (1951) and Becoming a Person (1961). For years, Hockey has been criticized for its excessive violence. The National Football League has also been scrutinized for this reason as well as the fact that many of the top players have constantly been in trouble with the law. Major League Baseball is no different. The situation with baseball is more complicated, and is not only ruining the game itself, but also drawing millions of fans away from the sport. The biggest problem is with the high salaries paid to athletes. These salaries are taking the competitiveness out of several sports, especially baseball, where there is no salary cap. The fans that come to watch the athletes and who pay nearly $20 to get in the ballpark are padding the pockets of these owners. Statistics taken from online site http://cnnfn.cnn.com/2001 /03/30/news/baseball/ show that baseball ticket prices have gone up from $16.67 to $18.99 in just one year. A quote from the same online site http://cnnfn.cnn.com/2001/03/30/news /baseball/ wrote by Chris Isidore says, "Baseball fans going through the turnstiles on opening day across the nation Monday will be paying about 13 percent more than they did last year, according to a survey of prices…The increase makes baseball the sport with the fastest growing prices." Baseball in the United States is no longer America's Pastime. Baseball has changed to a high priced business, where average players make millions and above average players make tens of millions. To make the situation even worse, the dumbfounded owners and greedy sports agents who contaminate the game and the talented young athletes playing in it, control this business. The Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, in which the pancreas does not produce insulin. It usually begins in childhood or adolescence. In Type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that converts sugar, starches, and food into energy. Without insulin, blood glucose levels become too high, which is known as hyperglycemia. To prevent hyperglycemia, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to survive. Genetic and environmental factors affect the onset of Type 1 diabetes. The research on the affect of viruses in triggering Type 1 diabetes is inconclusive, and some is even contradictory. Some researchers have also found that viruses may prevent Type 1 diabetes. Scientists at Joslin Diabetes Center add trauma as a potential trigger of Type 1 diabetes. A traumatic event, such as a body trauma or a car crash, increases the body's insulin requirement and strains the pancreas. [5] Dr. James H. Warram at the Joslin Diabetes Center concluded that the trauma does not cause diabetes, but it can trigger the onset of the disease. Another possible environmental cause of Type 1 diabetes is early diet. Breastfeeding for at least three months has shown to decrease the risk of Type 1 diabetes, and a diet including cow's milk before the age of one year old may increase the risk of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association reports that the onset of Type 1 diabetes occurs more often in winter than in summer. It is also more prevalent in cold climates. This leads researchers to conclude that cold weather may be a possible trigger of Type 1 diabetes, as well. [6] Dr. Andrew Weil (2014) explains that in addition, "Weather has an impact on eating and exercise habits, which can in turn influence how well you're able to control your blood sugar." The organism Enterobacter aerogenes is aseptically removed from an agar slant and spread over a square on the Indole dry slide. The product that is formed and then detected with different reagents will show the difference. The methyl red test is a test performed to detect the ability of the organism E. aerogenes to produce mixed–acid fermentation from supplied glucose. By aseptically using the inoculating loop, one broth is inoculated with the organism E. aerogenes. The other broth is left inoculated for now. The broths are incubated for 37 degrees for two to five days. After the incubation period, five drops of methyl red are added to the MR tube, which this will detect a strong, stable mixed acid formed in the mixed acid pathway. The other broth is taken and six drops of Barritt's reagent A, which is called a naphthol and then two drops of Barritt's reagent B (40% KOH) is added to VP tube. The exhibit about the Dust Bowl is in a good location because it is in the library where most students go daily. The location can also be considered a bad location because it is not easily seen from the door and one has to be looking for it to find it. The exhibit should be advertised to let more people know about it and tell them what it is near in the library. The traveling exhibit about the Dust Bowl has twelve different displays. • 19. Reflection Paper On Dietetics This fall semester I had the pleasure of taking NHM 195 and fascinating and exciting is probably an understatement about the class. From day one I was intrigued by the new ideas and facts about dietetics. I liked the real life lectures we had a chance of watching and the medical dictionary exercises that have absolutely sharpened my medical vocabulary immensely. In this class we learned about the three different types of dietetic programs: Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD, Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP), and Dietetic technician program (DT). The American Medical Association website states that anyone wanting to be in the medical field should do the following, "four years at a college or university to earn a BS or BA degree, usually with a strong emphasis on basic sciences, such as biology, chemistry, and physics." Later on in the article it states that the next programs to enroll in after college are medical school, a residency program and fellowship. A damsel in distress is someone in need of saving and in the medical field there are a lot of them. The training to be in the medical field is where the problem lays, not the outcome. Medical students are the victims of this fairy tale notion. These students face a tremendous amount of stress which puts them in distress. Those two combinations can lead to deadly outcome for the medical students Such as depression. As said by a Mayo Clinic Study, "students enter medical school with mental health profiles similar to their peers from college, but they begin to show higher rates of mental distress as they progress through medical school. The same study found that the most depressed students often are the least likely to reach out for help because of stigma related to mental illness" (Greenberg). Rebecca Greenberg continued her article on by saying," With students showing such high levels of distress, Lisolette Dyrbye M.D, said the burden of seeking help should not fall on them alone, adding that institutions should play an active role in helping students handle depression." The first answer that comes to mind would be the generic answer, "Because I want to help people." However, during the process of being in Lower Division and competing with almost 400 other students with the hopes of being accepted into Upper Division my mindset has changed. After studying my hardest through each class I am in and overcoming the challenges that come with each one, I am more determined than ever to be a nurse, more specifically a Traveling Registered Nurse, and I will not let anything stop me from reaching that goal. Ever since I was younger my parents have taught me to share, be caring, and always have a giving heart. As I went through high school I knew I wanted to be in the medical profession but I could not decide where. After attending a Career Center for two years and attaining my certification to be a Nursing Assistant, I knew nursing was the career I wanted to pursue. Nursing was the best fit for my personal values, financial commitment of the present and the future, and the ability to travel. According to the American Nurses Association (2015), nursing is described as the prevention of illness and injury while alleviating any suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of an individual. Now a doctor is a stranger who combats diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient's quality of life. Lots of times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient has a terminal disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very painful for both the patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the request of the dying person is violating a person's rights, interfering with a doctor's job, and increasing suffering. If the patient wants euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money wasted on a treatment that won't help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family members and taxpayers. Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. "I am only doing what I, as a physician, should do". (Kevorkian 170) It doesn't make sense that they can keep someone alive without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. "Many patients now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and often cause different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all". (Marzilli 69) The doctor is just the person who helps the patient to do what they desire. Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it can achieve its design of saving life. "On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some patients–if the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case–then death constitutes a moral good for these patients". • 27. Humanistic Therapy Theory The therapeutic approach I have chosen to help Maggie overcome her depression is humanistic therapy. I chose humanistic therapy because first, I like the idea of creating a relationship with your client to enhance their self–worth. Second, I like how the therapist genuinely cares about the patient and doesn't necessarily have to prescribe medications or just see their patient as another dollar sign. The humanistic approach is different than the psychodynamic approach because humanist tend to listen to what their patients have to say and the patient will direct where the therapy session will lead. However, a psychodynamic therapist already has a conversation thought out and he or she will determine where the therapy session will go. As a humanistic therapist, the main issues I need to discuss is her work life, attitudes towards friends or loved ones, and her inner thoughts. To start off, the first red flag that I see observing Maggie's case is her occupation. She is said to always strive for the best when it comes to being a medical resident. However, continuously doing work without having time for herself could be a real problem sanity wise. Furthermore, she has been with irritable and snippy to her coworkers especially her husband. If she continues this behavior she might lose a bond with her work colleagues and loved ones. Lastly, her personal thoughts about her performance or behavior could be draining on a person with depression. When these negative thoughts continue to circulate especially with her condition it could influence her to distance herself and probably push her to suicide. The humanistic approach would view and understand by looking at the person from a whole perspective, instead of a specific point of view shown through sessions by observing their behavior. Humanists view Maggie's depression as what is holding her back from becoming the best version of herself. Humanists would believe that Maggie's depression is a result of her inability to cope with personal circumstances or her inability to have balance in her life. Humanists would understand her depression by listening to her thoughts and feelings. Maggie is the conductor of the conversation and humanistic therapists are the listeners ... The Department of Labor projects an increase of 16% in the number of dentists by 2022, with an average median annual salary of around $150,000 a year. According to the American Dental Association, the number of small private 'cottage' practices is also declining, and new graduates are now three times as likely to be employed in a large group practice compared to a decade ago. A major factor contributing to that rise is the rapid growth of Dental Service Organizations. Worldviews can differ in a multitude of different ways. Different worldviews value and seek different things. Some worldviews value intelligence while others value servitude. All civilizations have worldviews and these worldviews affect these civilizations in contrasting ways. Some worldviews shape the civilizations culture and values. In many of the early civilizations worldviews took center stage in everything the civilization did. One of the first civilizations was located in the river valley of Mesopotamia. The Mesopotamians held a mythological worldview. This worldview was described in detail in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh exhibits this mythological worldview when he describes the world around him and when he attempts to speak to his many gods. Gilgamesh and the Mesopotamian people had religion and myth at the center of their worldview and lives. Everything that the Mesopotamians did revolved around their gods. The mountain, the sun, the moon, and the wind were all supposedly gods in their worldview. This belief was how the Mesopotamians explained the natural world and phenomenons that occurred around them. The mythological worldview begins to take shape in The Epic of Gilgamesh, when Gilgamesh is pleading with the gods for help. Kurt Vonnegut put it shortly: "Being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or punishment after you are dead." Though it isn 't what anyone will find in Webster 's Dictionary, it is a simple statement that informs the world of what these individuals believe. Humanists feel very strongly about the importance of human life and the utilization of the time you spend on Earth. Fredric March, President of the Humanist Society of New Mexico, describes his opinion of the humanist social agenda as: "...freedom of religion and freedom from religion..." (March 19). He later states that they feel strongly about social equality, secular democracy, and the health of our ecosystem. March also describes investigation of religion. He believes that cognitive science explains all questions unanswered while individuals question what the believe in. While they depend on cognitive science for some religious inquiries, humanists see fault in our political motives and actions (March 16). Nigel Tubbs feels that Capitalism abates the value of each humans life, and stirs greed causing desecration of the natural environment. The National Basketball Association was born in 1949 after the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League merged as one. Maurice Podoloff was elected head of the new league that consisted of seventeen teams which came from cities and towns all across the country. The NBA did not have a great start with its teams dwindling to only eight teams in the 1950s. At this point, the league transformed the game with the addition of the shot clock. The shot clock in the NBA is 24 seconds, meaning the offensive team has 24 seconds from the time they inbound the ball until the ball hits the rim on their side of the court. This addition increased the pace of the game and made it more fun for fans to watch. Their transformation worked, and the league returned to a financially stable one in the 1960/70s. Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers' daydreams becomes concrete and frightening: the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the daunting task of preparing for one's future is suddenly presented, and everything one has accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task: applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post–high school institutions, Rice University and the University of California– Berkeley, will be compared based on these aspects. As a primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to decide if a college is suitable for one's academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University consist of "either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of study, or the ACT Plus Writing test" ("Standardized Testing") in addition to: a high school transcript, the Common Application with Rice Writing Supplement, $75 dollar application fee, a counselor recommendation, one teacher recommendation, and midyear grades from senior year; the office of admissions will ... Encarta also goes on the say that, in philosophy, humanism is an attitude that emphasizes the dignity and worth of an individual. A basic premise of humanism is that people are rational beings who possess within themselves the capacity for truth and goodness. I see myself as a being a humanist through everyday life. I always try to see the good in a person when he/she makes me angry or sad, and say I to myself that maybe that person has had a bad day and living life is difficult at the moment. Socrates was even an early humanist of sorts. He can be quoted as saying, "to know the good is to do the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those human rights are the right to health, freedom, spirituality and so on. Today more than 60 countries promote humanist groups. Money, violence and discrimination today dominate society, and the Humanist Movement is trying to stop these obsessions from leading our everyday lives. The effort of these groups is to have a radical transformation in social, political and personal fields. All these changes must be made in a non–violent way as to preserve our existence with dignity. Without knowing it, we have all experienced humanism within out lives: working with counselors, psychologists and even teachers. Most of them want to help us find the good within ourselves. A teacher, when one was younger, tried to show one right from wrong; a counselor tries to help people work through problems, such as showing one that he/she is a person that is good. Even a friend can make a comment that makes one feel proud for something kind that one did. These are all humanistic approaches to life, perhaps not practiced all the time by these people, but practiced nonetheless. In conclusion, to practice humanism is to spread kindness and peace each day and to not let the minor, snippy remarks and crabbiness of others bother us. When Barbara Grutter applied to law school Cohen saw that her chances of getting in were way below that of minorities. In an interview with Ed Bradley, Cohen shows the Law school admission records from 1995 show these shocking statistics: Here, 51 applications, one admit; 61 applications, one admit; 2 percent, 3 percent chance of getting in. Not easy. That was for Caucasian Americans. That's their word language; not mine. This is their sheet. And they prepared another sheet for African–Americans. Same cells, same scores: 10 applicants, 10 admits; five applications, five admits. One hundred percent, instead of 2 percent opportunity, which is what the case is for whites. A hundred percent for blacks. It––oh, come on. (Bradley) In 1995, Cohen read an article pointing out that the acceptance rates of blacks at many major universities was higher than that of whites. So, he asked the University of Michigan for information regarding these claims. The university told him that information was confidential. Cohen had to use the Freedom of Information Act to get the documents he wanted. The documents he found were rather startling. Therefore, aspartame (APM) in diet soda can lead to cancer and the risk of developing carcinogenic effects increase in those who have a life span exposure to APM. In addition to aspartame in diet soda contributing to cancer, it also causes memory loss. Carbonated beverages began containing aspartame in 1983, after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it (Gold, 1995). Aspartame contains 40% aspartic acid, which is an amino acid that increases the level of aspartate and glutamate in blood plasma, according to Gold (1995). This increase of aspartate, as explained by Gold (1995), causes over stimulation of the nerves by acting within the brain as neurotransmitters, which aid in sending and receiving information between neurons. Aspartate increases the possibility of destroying the cell surface's membrane on the opposite side of the area between nerve cells (where transmission of nerve impulses occur) in the brain (Humphries, Prestorius, & Naude, 2008). As a result, excessive aspartate or glutamate can slowly destroy neurons in the brain contributed by an influx of calcium contained in the cells, thus causing memory loss. Besides diet soda developing an effect on memory loss, the aspartame in diet soda can lead to weight gain. Mehl–Madrona, (2005), as cited in Humphries et al. (2008) explains how ingestion of aspartame can cause cravings for consumption of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These ideals include liberty, self–government, and equality. Liberty has diminished at work because employees are getting hired as part time so that business do not have to give out benefits. According to Mary Williams who reported to the New York times, Employees have been timed while using the bathroom, and disciplinary points are given for frequent use of the restrooms. Also it has been reported that supervisors have hunted down employees if they take too long. Americans are losing the "right to live". This is because An opportunity for affordable education is disappearing which is a direct link to a long life. Medicare has decreased mortality of Americans ages 65 and older by 13%. But corporations are trying to replace medicare. This replacement will be a voucher system which will provide less coverage and the eligible age for it will be increased. This means that the loss of life in the elderly will increase. We are also losing or right to live or travel anywhere. The main reason for this is the 16 million underwater homes in the US.
