Comments/observations
Of the total budget of Rs 3,34,300/- allocated towards
the overhead livelihood for women, about Rs 2,50,000/- was
allocated towards the project for Kalvi Kendra, or 29.91% of the
budget allocated under the overhead livelihood for women.
The evaluator conducted an FGD Thanthirayankuppam, which
was attended by about 45 women members from all the four
SHGs of the village. In addition to the women members, the
village panchayat members too made it a point to attend the
meeting. The Agency had received a Sum of Rs 1,23,000/- from
Oxfam Trust, the utilization of the money has been as discussed under.
Revolving Fund:
A revolving fund of Rs. 25,000 each to four SHGs, viz Kurunjee SHG, Annai Theresa
SHG, Malligai SHG and Roja SHG has been distributed. This amount was distributed to the
members of SHGs as petty loans for small business. The loan disbursal was under:-
Nine members availed loan from Malligai SHG for fish vending.
Ten members availed loan from Roja SHG for fish vending.
Thirteen members avail loan from Kurunjee in which 11 members for fish vending
and two members for Grocery shop.
Six members availed loan from Annai Theresa SHG for Fish vending.
The quantum of loan amount to members, the rate of interest, number of installments
etc. is decided by the SHG members. The rate of interest is 2% per month to the SHG
3. members. Once the interest on the loan is collected, it is then
distributed amongst the SHG members every six months.
Presently, when the evaluator conducted FGD, it was found that
the repayment is 100%by the members. This was collaborated by
the existing SHG as well as Kalvi Kendra’s records. The collected
amount will be rotated once again by the members for their micro
enterprises. Those who availed loan from the revolving fund are
earning an average income of Rs. 150 per day. A special mention
needs to be made here about Kalvi Kendra’s SHG training
imparted to the women. The women were found to be knowledgeable as well as conversant
with the various nuances concerning SHG administration as well record maintenance. There
were instances of diligent maintenance of records and all the cash transactions were duly
noted. The women were able to confidently articulate the positive contributions as well as the
impact such SHGs were having in their community. There were instances where women who
prior to the tsunami had never ventured out on their own, out of their villages, were now
confidently involving themselves in terms of approaching Bank officials, meeting local political
leaders to put forth their demands as well as have found new roles in their households in
terms of decision making and self esteem.
Load Carrier
Two SHGs are identified to purchase load carriers for transport and marketing the
catches. One vehicle for Thanthirayankuppam and another for Nadukuppam village is
proposed to be purchased. These vehicles will be owned by the SHG. Kalvi Kendra is
facilitating them for availing loans from Indian bank. OXFAM Trust would contribute Rs.85, 000
for two vehicles. They are expected to receive the loan from the bank within three months.
Skill Training
18 members for fish pickle making and 20 members for coir making training
programmes have been identified and will be given training by the external resource persons
within two month.
