Continuity and montage are two styles of editing. Continuity editing aims to make cuts seem natural and seamless, while montage uses disconnected shots that audiences understand as conveying information. Transitions like cross cutting, dissolves, and wipes are used between shots, with dissolves providing a gradual blend and wipes noticeably passing across the screen in dynamic ways, often in action or adventure films.

5. CROSS CUTTING/ PARALLEL EDITING Alternate shots following two or more lines of action that are happening in different places.

6. dissolve The transition between two shots where the first image gradually disappears while the second image gradually appears.

7. wipe A transition that passes along the screen. Dynamic and noticeable transition. It is usually in action films or adventure films.
