The document provides a summary of the trainee's 8-week training with Mohammad Ahmad Abu Eisha & Brothers Contracting Company on a new construction project for the King Hussein Cancer Center New Building in Jordan. Key elements summarized include:
1) The trainee gained practical experience in structural elements like waffle slabs, columns, cores, stairs and tower cranes.
2) Mohammad Ahmad Abu Eisha & Brothers Contracting Company demonstrated professional and ethical work coordination during the training.
3) The trainee recommends more cooperation between universities and construction companies to provide practical experience for engineering students.
King Hussein Cancer Center construction project overview
1. 1
Executive Summary
It was a good experience working with this company, his project is to execute the King
Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) new building concrete structure construction project at
84,000 square meters, the building stands at a vertical 14 stories high which is ultimately
diffused within the urban landscape due to the south and east façades slated pattern and
stepped feature that are imitating the hills in the distance.
Unfortunately when I started my training the subsurface constructions have finished and
surface constructions was in 5th floor, but now it is in 10th floor, which means their
process were fast. The supervisor and design company is SIGMA, it has a multi-
disciplinary professional staff which can supervision and management of project, which
means the execution of project will be within plans and specifications.

Chapter 1:
Introduction
1.1 General Nature of the training
I have trained 8 weeks it was a good experiences, a serious look has
been taken about the nature of working as engineer and how much
responsibilities that related to that type of job.
It was a practical one, where that type of training handles the issues
happening in the site and practices us engineers to make a sensitive
decision in a blink of eye.
It specialized in structural elements columns ,waffle slabs, walls, pour
strips and cores, surveying, general tests being implemented in site of,
work checking, casting mythology, reading and understanding plans
and others.
1.2 Background information
On a site east of the existing King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Amman, a new
center is to be constructed offering an additional in-patient 164 beds, diagnostic and
treatment facilities and out-patient clinics accommodated in 40,000 sqm of medical
services forming phase I of the project. This extension project defines the KHCC's
imprint as a leading cancer treatment facility in the Middle East.

2.4 KHCF SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH
ABU EISHEH FOR NEW BUILDING
HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer
Foundation (KCHF), signed an agreement with Eng. Amjad Abu Eisheh General Manager of
Mohammed Ahmad Abu Eisheh and Bros. Contracting Company, who were awarded the King
Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) new building concrete structure construction project.
The project will involve the construction of two new state-of-the-art facilities, created by global
company HKS Consulting, who specialize in designing top medical cancer centers. At 84,000
square meters, the new building project is three times the size of the existing center and will be
located across from it.
The new buildings will enable KHCC to absorb the increasing demand for top quality of cancer
care in Jordan and the region. They will double the existing Center’s capacity to absorb the rising
number of local and regional patients by providing space for 200 extra beds as well as increasing
the existing capacity of KHCC’s outpatient services. Equipped with the latest medical technology
used in cancer treatment, the larger space is also designed to guarantee maximum patient comfort.
HRH Princess Ghida Talal emphasized the urgent need for expansion saying, “No patient should
be left behind, or denied the quality treatment that they need because of the lack of space.”
Through the addition of the new buildings, KHCC will boost its standing as a center of excellence
and as Jordan’s medical jewel by becoming the main medical hub for comprehensive cancer
treatment and care, serving Jordan and the region.
KHCF aims to cover the costs of the new building project through fundraising. Furthermore, the
Jordanian Fatwa Council recently issued a proclamation qualifying any donations made towards
the KHCC New Building as an ongoing sadaka.
Construction is expected to be completed in stages, with the final stage to be completed by the
first half of 2014.
Also present at the signing ceremony were HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director General of
KHCF, Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan, Director General of KHCC, KHCF Board member Eng. Ali
Krayim, In addition to other engineers from Projacs Company who will manage this project and
Sigma Engineering Company who will supervise on the execution of the project.

Chapter 3
3.1 waffle slabs
waffle slabs provide a lighter and stiffer slab than an equivalent flat slab, reducing the
extend of foundations. They provide a very good form where slab vibration is an issue,
such as laboratories and hospitals.
Ribbed slabs are made up of wide band beams running between columns with equal
depth narrow ribs spanning the orthogonal direction. A thick top slab completes the
system.
Waffle slabs tend to be deeper than the equivalent ribbed slab. Waffle slabs have a thin
topping slab and narrow ribs spanning in both directions between column heads or band
beams. The column heads or band beams are the same depth as the ribs.
Benefits
Flexible
Relatively light, therefore less foundation costs and longer spans are economic
Speed of construction
Fairly slim floor depths
Robustness
Excellent vibration control
Thermal mass
Good for services integration
Durable finishes
Fire resistance
Formwork
Formwork is a structure, usually temporary, used to contain poured concrete and to
mould it to the required dimensions and support until it is able to support itself. It consists
primarily of the face contact material and the bearers that directly support the face contact
material.
The main types of formwork systems in use now are:
Table form/flying form
System column formwork
Horizontal panel
Slip form
Tunnel form

Chapter 4
4.1 Recommendations
I have had the opportunity to train with Mohammad Ahmad Abu Eisha &
Brothers Contracting Company over the past eight weeks through a new
construction project (KHCC New Building)
Mohammad Ahmad Abu Eisha & Brothers Contracting Company
demonstrated a professional and ethical caliber during this time, paying
attention to showing to the trainees the detail while coordinating all aspects
of the work.
As an amateur engineer I recommend the universities to cooperatemore with
companies especially the one with the vast experience.
4.2 Conclusion
According to the company specialization the training was a practical one
(field site), and it focused on the field issues happening in the site.
In general we found the trainees that there are things need more practice
than the others, and how much works need to be done to success in the real
life.
During my training I have learned a lot about the civil engineering of the
building process its true what they say that observation the process complete
your idea after reading about it, and I have learned how to fill out the official
forms when I become an employee of any company like how to read and
respond to lab test results and how to schedule my work.
