Introduction

Papirum is a digital publishing platform
that allows distribution across many
devices. It presents a unique approach
using tight social media integration

Papirum, enables an exciting reading
experience using music, video and web
connection and many other interactive
elements. Along with it comes also social
network connections that simpliﬁes sharing
of content for the readers.

It is very simple for the publisher to control
its marketplace through Papirum’s web
interface speciﬁc to each distribution.

This document describes the features
exposed by Papirum to publishers.

The Marketplace

The marketplace is the reader’s entry
point into the application.

When the user launches the application, Navigation
he is greeted with the opening page
showing the featured editions.
Publications can be market ‘Featured’
instantly from within the web interface

User can quickly navigate within the
marketplace using the tab navigation
menu above. The menu provides quick
ﬁltering of publications based on
category, publication time, popular, free
and deals. Users can also search within Reader’s News
marketplace easily.

can take a quick look into recent news
that vary from which editions their friends

Reading Experience
The reading experience is very unique to
Papirum and the plaforms supported.
On iPad, each issue is opened within a Papirum
reader which presents a reading experince that is Toolbox
designed for minimal intrusion and maximum
immersion.

One tap anywhere on the page brings up a small
toolbox that allows quick access to all the sections
below:

•Multiple View
•Page Comments
•Index
•Crop and Share
•Notes
•Library
Thumbnails
Below the page the reader shows large thumbnails
for quickly identifying a desired page to jump to.
The current page is highlighted in yellow.

With another tap reader can remove the toolbox
and continue reading in an immersive experience.

Social Media Integration
Comments

Comments and Sharing form the basis of Papirum’s
Social Media integration.
Each page of a publication contains its own stream of
comments. This enables readers to have speciﬁc
conversations based on the content of the page.

Users simply select comments from the toolbox. The page
slides upwards, revealing the comments section below.
Reader can then immediately join the conversation.

To access comments (and most part of the application),
users are requested to connect with their Facebook
accounts. This immediately disables any spam
communication. Further, it also allows publishers to restrict
commenting permissions to a certain community (i.e. Only
those of age 16-25, females only).

An advantage of this kind of direct integration with social
media accounts allows publishers to identify a focused social
community and redirect marketing efforts based on the
information gained.

Social Media Integration
Sharing

Within the toolbox, readers have access to a sharing tool that allows them to freely send a section of the page they are reading to
their friends. The cropped image can be published on user’s Facebook timeline, their Twitter feed or can be forwarded to another
friend using E-mail.

Publishers who may want to restrict this feature can choose to disable it completely. The maximum size of the crop can also be
restricted to allow only a small portion of the image to be shared online. However, we do suggest publishers to give their readers
as much freedom as possible for sharing as it often results in higher conversions compared to restricting the option.

Reading Experience
Notes

Readers can take notes by touching anywhere on
the screen.

Notes can be taken on text or interactive content
allowing a more personal relationship of the reader
with the content.

The notes are synced with Papirum servers,
therefore readers will ﬁnd the same notes at the
same locations whenever they open up a Papirum
content on any device.

Interactive Publications
Papirum’s interactivity works by adding an HTML5
layer on top of PDF magazines. They are supported
together or individually to accomodate all publisher
needs easily.

If you simply would like to convert your print
publications to digital, you can simply upload PDF
versions on Papirum Editor.

If you would like to add interactive content such as
videos, slideshows, animations, voice-over, then you
can build the interactive overlay on any of the tools
you are familiar with (i.e. Adobe Dreamweaver).

What can you do?

As Papirum uses HTML5, you have basically no limits of
the kinds of interactions you can implement on your
pages.
HTML5 is a commont standard that has developed many
features into web pages without the requirements of any
plug-ins installed. This allows you to create any interaction
that is made available by this technology. Although nearly all
devices support HTML5, there are simple few things to look
out for.

Each device has unique performance qualities that we keep
in mind when building our publications. For instance, taken
from Apple iPad documentations:

•“Maximum size of JPEG image can be 32 megapixels.”
•“Execution time of Javascript code, which allows
animations, cannot be more than 10 seconds.”

These limitations are there merely for a good user
experience and we also ask publishers using these to check
and make sure that each page can successfully be viewed
on the device targeted.

Ideas

Here are a few ideas of what you can achieve with the interactivity capabilites of Papirum:

Videos: Add videos to your page so when the users click on a picture, they actually see the
video playing.

Slideshows: If you have a bunch of images but are running out of space on print version,
you can simply add them by allowing the user to scroll through the images in the digital
version.

Voice-Over: You can insert a reading session of a page as a voice ﬁle. If you have a great
kids story, your reader can simply touch to activate the voice-over for the kids to listen to the
story before bedtime.

Twitter Feed: Engage your readers by inserting your twitter feed directly onto the page.

Entertainment: You can embed puzzles or games that keep your readers entertained.

Papirum Editor
Introduction

Papirum Editor is the online distribution management system.
With the Papirum ID, publishers have access to all of their publications from within any browser. On your browser, go to
backend.papirum.com and enter the account information to manage your Papirum platform. From here, you can modify your
existing publications or create new ones and immediately start distributing them on your applications.

Creating New Publications

Follow the simple steps to get your publication onto the
marketplace.
Papirum Editor allows you to easily have a publication ready to be
distributed on your Papirum applications.

Analytics Note: We will soon enable direct access to reports within Papirum interface.

The analytics framework allows detailed
analysis of the readership statistics.
Integrated with Google’s enterprise-class web
analytics solution Google Analytics, Papirum
gives the publishers rich insights into
effectiveness of the editions.

With analytics, the publishers are more
prepared to develop better understanding of
their target audience and employ responsive
tactics to strengthen their marketing initiatives
and in turn see immediate conversions.

Publishers can access their private Google
Analytics account from within Papirum Editor
from main menu by clicking ‘Analytics’.

Google Analytics provides detailed analysis
tools. We also provide detailed analytics
reporting service of the records with
reasonable monthly pricing options. See our
pricing section for further details.

Within the web interface, publishers can see following
raw information which can also be combined to
produce powerful analysis.

Custom Ads
Papirum’s customizable platform allows us to easily integrate many
leading advertisement platforms right into heart of the reading
experience.

We can either integrate your preferred ad platform, or you can create
custom ads/banners using Papirum Editor’s interactive layer.

In many cases, ad platforms offer simple code to copy and paste
which can be using in conjunction with the HTML5 layer to quickly
insert your own advertisements and grab statistical information right
away.

We can also work with you to consult you in ﬁnding the best platform
for your target audience.

Cloud-based Distribution

Papirum’s cloud-based distribution enables readers to ﬁnd their
library in same state across all platforms.
When a reader purchases new issue or takes a note on a page, the
information is synced with our Amazon S3 backed Cloud systems.
As a result the reader can put down one iPad and open another one
and can continue with the same experience.

We are busy extending our coverage.
Papirum will soon be available on:

Simple Storage Service is a highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast infrastructure that
Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. Papirum uses the same
exact platform to maximize beneﬁts of its scalability and speed across many regions.

Meetings and Activities
We have been settings up meetings with publishers and gathering some feedbacks about the product and its functionalities.

Currently we have couple interested prospect clients mostly publishers that wants to go into digital market with their own
standing product.

As a team, in our group meetings we are always wanting to improve the social aspects of the product to make it a truly social
reading platform but our clients have been focusing on the interface builder to add their publication interactive content and
ads. That’s a fair point since they are the clients and looking to monetize their products but to us it’s all about the uniqueness
of the product. There are other products out there like Adobe publishing suite, that allows publishers to design and create
interactive content and easily publish their apps to the app stores, our goals is to introduce Papirum as the ultimate “Social”
reading platform.

This is just the start we have a lot more cool feature and ideas to turn this product into something revolutionary.
