person owning a submissive
person as their property. It is a
exchange of power between
individuals.
3. Why was there Slavery?
Slavery started as a means of
using people as a trade for items
such as Tobacco, Sugar and
Cotton. It started when the
British captured free African
tribes and transported them
upon slave ships in numbers of
400 or more. The slaves were
then transported to the West
Indies where they were sold to
the owners of plantations, the
goods-and some slaves-were
then transported back to Britain.

than to America. Many people died while on
their journey’s after being traded. Most of the
