First Grade Curriculum Reading <ul><li>Houghton Mifflin Reading Series: Incorporates phonics and reading strategies (listen to story on wikispace ) </li></ul><ul><li>Centers: Participate in independent learning activities that reinforce skills across the curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Guided Reading: Small groups based on similar strengths/needs. Flexible as skills develop </li></ul>

General Information Reading Envelope <ul><li>Some students will bring home a white envelope containing a book </li></ul><ul><li>Ask your child to read the book to you </li></ul><ul><li>Repeated readings boost your child’s self-confidence as well as improve sight word vocab, fluency, and comprehension. </li></ul><ul><li>Sign enclosed sheet and return next day </li></ul>
