     At the end of the lesson, the students should be
able to:

Give the different attributes of the twelve principal
gods of Mt. Olympus;

 Sustain interest in studying the Greek literature.; and

 Participate actively in the class discussion.

 Mt. Olympus and the Twelve Great Olympians

Introduction
   The Greeks did not believe that
the gods created the universe. It
was the other way around – that the
universe created the gods.
The Lord of the Sky

  The Rain-God and the Cloud
Gatherer who wielded the
Thunderbolt

  Nevertheless, he was not
omnipotent nor omniscient.

  His breastplate was the Aegis, his
bird was the eagle and his tree was
the oak .

 His oracle was Dodona.
Zeus’s wife and sister

 Protector of Marriage and
married woman

  The cow and the peacock was
sacred to her
The Ruler of the Sea

  He drove in his golden car over
the water

  commonly called the Earth-
Shaker

  Always carrying his trident, a
three-pronged spear.

  He had some connection with
bulls and horses.
The God of the Underworld

  He wore a far-famed cap or
helmet

 His wife was Persephone

  He was the King of the Dead

  The work man of the gods
A virgin goddess like
Artemis and Athena

  The Goddess of Hearth,
the symbol of home around
which the newborn child
must be carried.
APPLICATION:

 The students will be grouped.

 The students will compose a literary piece (such as an
essay, a poem or a short story, etc.) about the Greek gods
which was previously discussed.

Each group shall present their piece as creative as possible.
EVALUATION:
MODIFIED TRUE OR FALSE: The following are statements
 about the twelve principal gods of Mt. Olympus. If the
 statement is correct, write AMBROSIA; if not, change the
 words/phrases that make the statement incorrect.

1. The Cloak of Invisibility helps Hades to be invisible.

2. Hestia is one of the virgin goddesses like Athena and
  Artemis
ANSWER: AMBROSIA
3. Poseidon’s three-pronged spear was the Caduceus.

  • 5. Introduction The Greeks did not believe that the gods created the universe. It was the other way around – that the universe created the gods.

  • 7. The Lord of the Sky The Rain-God and the Cloud Gatherer who wielded the Thunderbolt Nevertheless, he was not omnipotent nor omniscient. His breastplate was the Aegis, his bird was the eagle and his tree was the oak . His oracle was Dodona.

  • 17. APPLICATION: The students will be grouped. The students will compose a literary piece (such as an essay, a poem or a short story, etc.) about the Greek gods which was previously discussed. Each group shall present their piece as creative as possible.
  • 18. EVALUATION: MODIFIED TRUE OR FALSE: The following are statements about the twelve principal gods of Mt. Olympus.
