Transportation training june 2013

Editor's Notes

  1. Plan to have clients in employee’s personal vehicle as infrequently as possible. Be compliant with State Automobile Insurance requirements. (insurance must be on file with CCFI, driving record and transportation training must also be on file) Be aware that driving under the influence of any drugs including prescription drugs could impair driving ability and is not allowed.
  2. Drivers are required to observe and conform to all traffic laws with allowances made for adverse weather and traffic conditions.
  3. Regardless of the circumstances, employees shall refrain from doing any keyboarding on a cellular phone or other device while driving. Calls may be accepted and placed via voice activation. Keep a cell phone and a list of emergency numbers within reach at all times, as well as the CCFI contact person to notify in case of an emergency. Wherever possible, drivers shall refrain from engaging in other distracting activities, such as eating or changing radio stations while driving.
  4. Drivers are expected to be fully aware at all times and therefore should not operate a vehicle when his/her ability to do so safely has been impaired by illness, fatigue, or injury.
  5. Insure the vehicle is in safe working order, that you have plenty of fuel, and all emergency equipment is securely fastened in the vehicle. Make sure all occupants are wearing seat belts, and children are properly secured in safety car seats appropriate for their age and size. All drivers and adult passengers must wear a properly-adjusted and fastened seat belt when conducting agency business. The seat-belt must be factory-installed and must meet federal safety guidelines.
  6. As applicable, insure quick access to client’s health information that may need to be utilized in case of an emergency. Always obtain a “Consent to Transport” before transporting a child. When transporting several clients, insure you have a list of all children/clients you are transporting with you to assist in accounting for the safety of everyone in case of an emergency. Transport any information that may have PHI in a secured manner following CCFI confidentiality policy.
  7. Parents, who will drive their children or other clients in connection with a CCFI activity such as a supervised exchange, must provide a copy of their valid drivers’ license and insurance in advance. Parents are expected to use child restraint systems as required by law.
  8. Drivers are responsible for the security of Norman Public School vehicles assigned to them. The vehicle engine must be turned off, ignition keys must be removed, and vehicle doors must be locked at any time the vehicle is left unattended. Only authorized persons are allowed to drive or ride in Norman Public School vehicles or in any vehicle being used to transport clients.
  9. Always insure staff knows where you will be going, including name, address and phone number. Continually assess the safety and general environment. If you feel unsafe, leave. Discuss instances of “unsafe” situations with the Senior Management Team.
  10. If possible sit where you have close access to an exit. Before the initial visit to the home contact the consumer and ask that any dogs be secured.
  11. Park your vehicle so that you can leave quickly, do not park where anyone can park behind you and trap your exit.
  12. Before entering a home for the initial visit notice your surroundings for any signs of drug manufacturing or other unsafe red flags. Should you notice anything that does not feel right, sound right, or smell right, leave immediately. Signs to look for could include: windows covered excessively, any signs of chemicals, empty containers, charcoal packages, hoses, smells that are either chemical in nature or that you do not readily recognize.
