produced this year alone. In some areas, the buildup of plastics is estimated to span 5 million square miles. I think seventh graders should never
pollute and always pick up after themselves and others to help the world and its marine life. I also we've made a mess that we need to clean–up. If you

to the time it ends up in the vast unknown. The first place most plastic travels to after being disposed of is a landfill. It can sit in these ever
expanding landfills for up to 1,000 years before it's able to decompose. During the time plastic lives there, rain water periodically floods through the
waste, getting absorbed by the plastic's water–soluble compounds. Some of these compounds are highly toxic, and when combined together, they

difficult, due to the large volume of production and contamination, particularly microplastics, coupled with inadequate disposal practices of plastic.
In 2014, 311 million tonnes of plastic were produced (Detloff & Istel 2016), and half was disposed of within the year (Singh & Sharma 2016). The
most commonly used and plentiful polymers are: high–density polyethylene, low–density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polypropylene
and polyethylene terephthalate (Andray & Neal 2009 as cited in Li, Tse and Fok 2016). These polymers account for 90% of total plastic production,
and as a result are the most common plastics found in aquatic environments (Andray 2011 and Engel 2012 as cited in Li, Tse and Fok 2016). Plastic
