33. TRADITIONS OF CANADA
Each area of the country and each ethnic group have their own tradition and
custom. This makes it very difficult to determine one or several customs that are
practiced in the same way all across the country
1) The celebration of Thanksgiving is a holiday in the country that is held on the first
Monday in October. The early settlers were so pleased with their first harvests in the
new land that they had a celebration to give thanks. This tradition continues today.
2) When you visit someone’s home, you always remove your footwear inside the
entrance. This is so you won’t track any mud or gravel onto the clean floors of the
house.
3) On Halloween, children dress up in all kinds of costumes and go from house to
house in their neighborhood receiving treats of candy.
4) During Christmas season, mummering is a tradition in Newfoundland. Both
children and adults dress up in old mismatched clothing and cover their faces.
They visit homes and put off a sort of mini-concert by singing and dancing.

36. Life Expectancy in Canada
In recent years, surveys of mortality rates and other indicators have
shown Canadians in some parts of the country are much healthier
than those in other regions.
Southerners live longer than northerners, and Canadians concentrated
mainly in the nation's most densely packed urban areas live the longest.
Conversely, the findings paint a gloomy picture of life and death in the
North - particularly in areas with large aboriginal populations.

133. BiographY
• The works of this period reflect the one hand, a marked
interest in synthetic cubism (The
guerrilla, 1915), assumed in his Parisian period, and
secondly, a great admiration for the fresco painters of
the Quattrocento, (and especially by Giotto), which led
to his departure from the earlier Cubist aesthetic.
Identified with the revolutionary ideals of their
homeland, Rivera returned to Mexico from Italian soil
(1922), at a time when revolution seemed consolidated.
Along with David Alfaro Siqueiros was devoted to study
in depth the Mayan and Aztec art, which significantly
influence on his later work. In collaboration with other
prominent Mexican artists of the moment (as Siqueiros
and Orozco himself), founded the painters' union, from
which emerge the Mexican muralist movement, deep
indigenous roots.
