TRADITIONS OF CANADA
Each area of the country and each ethnic group have their own tradition and
custom. This makes it very difficult to determine one or several customs that are
practiced in the same way all across the country

1) The celebration of Thanksgiving is a holiday in the country that is held on the first
Monday in October. The early settlers were so pleased with their first harvests in the
new land that they had a celebration to give thanks. This tradition continues today.

2) When you visit someone’s home, you always remove your footwear inside the
entrance. This is so you won’t track any mud or gravel onto the clean floors of the
house.

3) On Halloween, children dress up in all kinds of costumes and go from house to
house in their neighborhood receiving treats of candy.

4) During Christmas season, mummering is a tradition in Newfoundland. Both
children and adults dress up in old mismatched clothing and cover their faces.
They visit homes and put off a sort of mini-concert by singing and dancing.

                                                                            Robert Iannucci

PEOPLE

In North America there were no racial mixes or cultural among indigenous and
European settlers. For this reason, most of the population presents physical
and cultural characteristics peculiar to northern Europeans .

                                                                 Robert Iannucci
Life Expectancy in Canada
In recent years, surveys of mortality rates and other indicators have
shown Canadians in some parts of the country are much healthier
than those in other regions.
Southerners live longer than northerners, and Canadians concentrated
mainly in the nation's most densely packed urban areas live the longest.
Conversely, the findings paint a gloomy picture of life and death in the
North - particularly in areas with large aboriginal populations.

Claude Theberge Biography

Born in Edmunston, New Brunswick, Claude
Théberge began his lessons in painting as a
child. Later on, he entered the École des beaux-
arts in Quebec.

The career of Claude Théberge provides a prime
example of how time works in magical and often
unforeseen ways …

This Canadian artist, a graduate of Quebec City’s
École des Beaux-Arts, won bursaries from both
the Canada Arts Council and the Quebec
Government and attented the greatest art and
design schools in France.
He captured the top prize in a United Nations
competition involving 65,000 graphic artists from
throughout the world.
Over many years he divided is time between Paris and
Montreal, all the while exploring the full range between
pure abstraction and hyper-realism.
He designed murals, stained glass windows and
sculptures for a host of public buildings and created
paintings found in prestigious collection : Aérospatial,
France; l’Oréal/Lancôme; Montreal Museum of
Contemporary Art; Royal British Columbia Museum;
Toronto World Trade Center; First Canadian Bank; Esso,
Canada; Kennedy Collection, U.S.A., etc. Through the
years, he took part in solo or group shows held in Paris,
London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Tokyo,
New York, Chicago and elsewhere.
Not surprisingly, the man who once had the
opportunity to be a protégé was dedicated to
mentoring talented young artists.

Claude Théberge passed away , on
Thurday May 15 2008 , in Montreal

Thutmose
"The King's Favourite and Master of
  Works, the Sculptor Thutmose" (also
  spelled Djhutmose and
  Thutmosis), flourished 1350 BC, is
thought to have been the official court
  sculptor of the Egyptian Pharaoh
Akhenaten in the latter part of his
  reign.

                 Valeria Paris 6 "A" 13
A German archaeological expedition
digging in Akhenaten's deserted city of
Akhetaton, at Amarna, found a ruined
house and studio complex (labeled in
early December 1912; the building was
identified as that of Thutmose based
on an ivory horse blinker found in a
rubbish pit in the courtyard inscribed
with his name and job title. Since it
gave his occupation as "sculptor" and
the building was clearly a sculpture
 workshop, it seemed a logical
 connection.

Diego Rivera

BiographY
• The works of this period reflect the one hand, a marked
  interest in synthetic cubism (The
guerrilla, 1915), assumed in his Parisian period, and
secondly, a great admiration for the fresco painters of
the Quattrocento, (and especially by Giotto), which led
to his departure from the earlier Cubist aesthetic.
Identified with the revolutionary ideals of their
homeland, Rivera returned to Mexico from Italian soil
(1922), at a time when revolution seemed consolidated.
Along with David Alfaro Siqueiros was devoted to study
in depth the Mayan and Aztec art, which significantly
influence on his later work. In collaboration with other
prominent Mexican artists of the moment (as Siqueiros
and Orozco himself), founded the painters' union, from
which emerge the Mexican muralist movement, deep
  indigenous roots.

This makes it very difficult to determine one or several customs that are practiced in the same way all across the country 1) The celebration of Thanksgiving is a holiday in the country that is held on the first Monday in October. The early settlers were so pleased with their first harvests in the new land that they had a celebration to give thanks. This tradition continues today. 2) When you visit someone’s home, you always remove your footwear inside the entrance. This is so you won’t track any mud or gravel onto the clean floors of the house. 3) On Halloween, children dress up in all kinds of costumes and go from house to house in their neighborhood receiving treats of candy. 4) During Christmas season, mummering is a tradition in Newfoundland. Both children and adults dress up in old mismatched clothing and cover their faces. They visit homes and put off a sort of mini-concert by singing and dancing. Robert Iannucci

  • 133. BiographY • The works of this period reflect the one hand, a marked interest in synthetic cubism (The guerrilla, 1915), assumed in his Parisian period, and secondly, a great admiration for the fresco painters of the Quattrocento, (and especially by Giotto), which led to his departure from the earlier Cubist aesthetic. Identified with the revolutionary ideals of their homeland, Rivera returned to Mexico from Italian soil (1922), at a time when revolution seemed consolidated. Along with David Alfaro Siqueiros was devoted to study in depth the Mayan and Aztec art, which significantly influence on his later work. In collaboration with other prominent Mexican artists of the moment (as Siqueiros and Orozco himself), founded the painters' union, from which emerge the Mexican muralist movement, deep indigenous roots.
