A PowerPoint Presentation I made demonstrating how my Twitter professional learning network grew over a month and a half, while taking EDIT 202 spring session 2013 at university of alberta.

Following 72 professionals/organizations
20 followers
75 tweets
I originally started by following 20
professionals/organizations as per the
requirements of the assignment. That
number has more than tripled now
and continues to grow.

Here you see a few of my
tweets. One of my most
meaningful ones so far was
my comment on a petition
put forth by the ACFA, the
organization which
represents Alberta’s French
speaking community. The
petition was in support of
the establishment of
college-level programs for
graduates of Francophone
and French immersion
schools in Alberta.
By commenting on this post
and encouraging others to
sign the petition, I was able
to support my community!
4. This is the Twitter name for the high school I went to, Ecole
Maurice-Lavallee here in Edmonton. It is the only Catholic
Francophone high school in the city.
Following @Ecole_ML supports my professional
development since I could very well end up completing my
practicums there or maybe even teaching.
Knowing what is going on at the school helps me stay up
to date with its particular culture and feel, as well as the
activities in which the students participate.

5. Another Francophone source, this is the Twitter page for
the Francophone school board representing Alberta’s
northern-central region.
Following this page supports my professional
development since, if I do end up teaching in a
Francophone school (which would be amazing), chances
are I’d be employed with this school board.
As a possible future employee, it is good for me to keep up
with what is going on within the Francophone school
community of Alberta.

6. A former professor of mine. She taught me EDU 250 last
winter semester, along with Brad Smilanich.
As a school administrator, instructor of pre-service
teachers, and a former teacher herself, she is an excellent
person for me to be following.
When I do my practicums or start teaching, I will of course
have a lot of questions that need answering.
A great way to get answers is to tweet these questions.
Experienced educators like @Mrs_Laf can respond and
provide useful knowledge.

7. Most of what I have been doing with my Twitter PLN so far
is retweeting interesting posts and reading articles about
various aspects of education.
I have posted some of my own comments on a few tweets
here and there. However, I have not been doing this often.
I feel like, at this point in my studies, I do not have enough
knowledge to be able to contribute meaningfully to
Twitter discussions.
I believe that, the more I interact with my PLN and grow as
a future educator, the more I will have to say.

8. Overall, I think that social media sites like Twitter and
excellent tools for professional development.
Twitter is an easy way to stay in the loop and I am
sure I will continue to have a lot of fun with it!
