The Effects Of The War On World War II
Desperate times call for desperate measures, and for the Allied Powers in 1939 it was a desperate
time. The Second World War was not going in there favor. The German war machine has ripped
through Poland and moves on to the rest of Europe. Part of the reason why Germany can start a war
to control the world is that one of the world's biggest superpowers and neighbor, the Soviet Union,
was completely silent in the war. In 1941 things are looking up for Nazi Germany, so Germany
planed one of the biggest military operations of the war. A plan to invade the communist state of the
Soviet Union. The invasion had a massive effect on World War II, it gave a reason for the Soviet
Union to join the Allied Powers which would end the war faster.

The War Of The World War II
After the last great global conflict, the Second World War was the most extensive and lethal war in
history, which involved more than 30 countries. It marked more than 50 million military and civilian
deaths. Though dumbfounded by the events of December 7, Americans were also determined.
President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war against Japan On December 8. The declaration
passed with just one rebel vote. After three days, Germany and Italy, connected with Japan, declared
war on the United States. America was involved into a global war. Great Britain and the Soviet
Union were in allies in this fight. The job the nation faced in December 1941 was daunting. During
World War II, some 350,000 women made a huge job both at home and abroad in the U.S. There is
one thing that states: In World War II there were believe that women became skilled of all kind of
roles in the workforce in society, and that was permanently impressed on the public awareness. Even
though the World War II made significant change in women's life; however, it did not necessarily
bring new employment, military, and civil rights opportunities to black women compare with white
Americans. Moreover, while white American women in military and other area also shared a history
of discrimination based on gender, African American faced as well as gender and race
discrimination. Primarily forbidden that African American women obstinately kept on their right to
manage that was given from official military status.

The War Of World War II
"One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic."– These words were spoken by Joseph Stalin after
the largest and bloodiest battle in human history, Stalingrad. The eastern front of World War II was
one the bloodiest single war of all time. Once the Germans invaded the USSR they did not know
they had unleashed the Soviet storm. During Russia's great patriotic war, the battles of the eastern
front led to the downfall of the German Reich. Even before the war, the Soviets and Germans had
had a lot of contact. During Spain's civil war the Soviet and German forces took sides with
republican Spain and the nationalists. Germany favored the nationalists because of their ideas being
very fascist like, and the Soviets with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After France had been defeated on 25 of June, 1940, Hitler had moved ¾ of his army to the eastern
front to gear up for invasion, little did he know of the mistake yet to come. June 22, 1941, just
before dawn, German troops cross the border of the Soviet Union. 99 of the 190 German divisions
including, including 14 panzer divisions and 10 mechanized, 3,500,000 men, began the invasion of
the Soviet Union. The Soviets, taken by surprise, were unsuspecting the German invasion. Even
though Stalin had received reports from his spies, and the famous Lucy Spy Ring, about the
oncoming German invasion for months, but had dismissed all of them. Some of these were even on
the correct date. The Luftwaffe needed air supremacy over the largest air force in the world, so they
began by bombing Soviet airfields. The Red Air Force's numbers dropped from 15,000 aircraft to
less than 2,000 in under ten days. Then the Germans deployed their famous Panzers against outdated
obsolete tanks from the early 30's. Easily outmaneuvering and destroying the Soviet tank resistance
in the west. In the initial success Hitler thought that victory would be claimed just before 1942. The
first month saw the encirclement of hundreds of thousands Soviet soldiers and the taking of much of
the western Soviet frontier. Army group north was heading for Leningrad, the former capital of the
Russian empire and the second largest city in the Soviet Union, prior to German attack, local

The War I And World War II
During the 20th century, devastating events prevailed over the encouraging ones. Two World Wars
appeared during the 1900s: World War I and World War II. Many countries lost soldiers over the
course of both wars. During the First World War, America originally decided to remain neutral.
American ships had to cease trading with Germany due to a naval blockade by Britain. This effect
did not stop Woodrow Wilson from exchanging products with European countries. Wilson trading
with Britain and France angered Germany and forced America into war. This war that America was
forced into caused roughly 100,000 deaths, and World War II, alone, led to nearly 500,000 deaths.
However, the citizens elected one president who beneficially changed American ... Show more

The Atlantic Charter proved that previous underlying tensions between two major powers could be
negated through treaties of peace that provide amity between the two. The Charter had 8 clauses.
The major components include: countries seek no elevation in power, territorial or other, respect all
rights of the people to choose the form of government which they will live, bring the fullest
collaboration between all countries' economic fields, and all nations of the world should abandon the
use of force (Duhaime web). All of these clauses have one thing in common: they all help America
as a country. The Lend–Lease Act allowed America to move forward and contain an active conflict
in the face of war. Concerning the Lend–Lease Act, Kennedy Hickman writes, "Seeking to move the
nation towards a more active role in the conflict, Roosevelt wished to provide Britain with all
possible aid short of war. As such, British warships were permitted to make repairs in American
ports and training facilities for British servicemen were constructed in the US. To ease Britain 's
shortage of war materials, Roosevelt pushed for the creation of the Lend–Lease Program" (web).
The Lend–Lease Act helped Britain because it allowed new military weapons into their country for
war. Through an improved military arsenal, Britain could provide aid to American pursuits due to
their alliance. Through the Lend–Lease Act, Roosevelt demonstrated his loyalty to

World War I And The War II
World War II was a war that ended in much tragedy. There were over 60 million casualties.
Throughout World War II there was how it started, the Nazi Regime, and some of the major battles.
Much of the war was about the Germans bringing together a group of people called the Nazis. They
were under the rule of Adolf Hitler. There were two groups fighting against each other: the Axis
powers and the Allied powers. The Axis powers consisted of Japan, Italy, and Germany. The Allied
powers were Great Britain, France, and later on in the war, the United States. After World War I, the
Allied forced Germany to sign a peace treaty called the Treaty of Versailles. According to the treaty,
Germany had to give up parts of its territory, reduce its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
91 Jews were killed and 20,000 were sent to concentration camps (Woolf 36). During the war there
was two wars fought at the same time; the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre. Both parts
were broken down into four parts: the effect on Europe, early dominance period, turnaround period,
and the ending of the war (Jorge 1). After World War I all Munn 2 of the European countries tried to
become democratic countries, but failed to Communism. Most of their governments were unstable,
weak, and unresponsive. They also tried to start Capitalism, but their economies were experiencing
depression and extremely high inflation. The U.S did nothing to help these struggling countries
because they agreed to a policy of Isolationism (Jorge 1). In March 1939, the whole country of
Czechoslovakia was under German control. Next, Hitler wanted to take Poland. On September 1,
1939, Germany invaded Poland. A few days later Britain and France declared war on Germany. This
marked the beginning of World War II (Woolf 25). In June 1940, Mussolini had declared war on the
Allies. He already had more than a million men in the Italian army based in Libya (Jorge 1). In
neighboring Egypt, the British Army had only 36,000 men guarding the Suez Canal and the Arabian
oil fields. The Italian forces became a potential threat to Allied supply routes in the Red Sea and the
Suez Canal. The North African Campaign, or Desert War, took place in the North African desert

War I And World War II
During any war, there will alwaAys be alliances made which stick even after the war has been
dissolved. Postwar foreign policy after wars such as World War I and World War II was complicated
and both had their similarities and differences from each other. World War I (WWI) strengthened our
international relations with many countries, It also deteriorated some relations as well and set the
stage for America becoming a great power. World War II (WWII) had some of the same effects,
solidating our bond with the Allies and breaking others, but also it had many differences. Our post–
war foreign policy after WWI consisted of alliances, power, money, and enemies. After the war, our
relations with England and France mainly were strengthened. ... Show more content on

Our policy with Germany greatly shifted because after the war germany was seen as unable to
govern their country, therefore the USSR took control of East Germany and France, England, and
America took control of West Germany. The Economy was greatly affected as well. America's
economy increased dramatically, due to the amount of factory jobs and amounts of production for
the war. But Japan's economy plummeted due to the loss of their land in china and many of the
islands in the Pacific Ocean and the effects of getting two cities destroyed due to the new found
nuclear bombs. All these reactions influenced our foreign policy and caused us to be where we are
now. Both wars caused great shifts in this world and molded it to be where it is now. WWI and
WWII both had many of the same post–war effects and caused great changes. They shared the
display of America's power, brought us and England and France closer together, Boosted and
Destroyed economies and much more. They both had differences too such as, WWI destroying
Germany's economy instead of splitting it up into two different countries. And WWII having the
effect of new nuclear power, and the effects on the Pacific as well as Europe. Many differences and
similarities were shown in these two major wars and brought us here. Both WWI and WWII were
similar and different in their postwar foreign policy effects.

World War II : The Causes Of World War II
The world has experienced many wars; however, none were as horrific as World War II.
Approximately 50 million people were killed during World War II, as an illustration, this is about 1
out of every 6 people that make up the United State's population today. This tragedy is a direct
consequence of the results of World War I, Hitler's rise to power, and the expansion of Japan and
Italy. By the end of World War I in 1917, the war had become a struggle of attrition. Both sides were
trying to bleed the other dry of resources and soldiers, exhausting them until they were forced to
surrender. At this time in the war, the British had blocked resources from reaching German ports,
and it soon became clear that Germany would not triumph over the Allies. To end the war, the
German government and the Allies signed an armistice, a temporary halt to the bloodbath until a
peace treaty can end it permanently. Eventually, the Treaty of Versailles was signed to officially end
the war. This peace treaty was negotiated with the intent of permanently crippling the German
economy. The terms were extremely harsh for the Germans. The Allies made the following
demands: Germany's armed forces were to be severely restricted in terms of numbers and weapons,
Germany was to lose all of its colonies to Britain and France, Germany had to admit that it was
responsible for starting the war, and finally, the Germans had to reimburse the Allies for the
enormous destruction that the war had caused. To make sure the Germans agreed with their terms,
the Allies threatened to invade Germany, leaving them with no choice but to comply with the treaty.
The terms of the treaty weakened the Germans, essentially breaking their economy. In July 1919, 1
American dollar was worth 14 German marks. By November 1923, 4 years after the signing of the
Treaty of Versailles, 1 American dollar was worth 2.52 trillion German marks. Comparatively to
other major European nations, Germany was hit harder by the Great Depression that occurred in
1929. German companies accumulated a profit by exporting their goods, and soon had to layoff
employees, making unemployment a prevalent problem in the German society. Coupled with a
change in government, the economy was in

World War II was one of the most powerful wars the world has ever had. It was also one of the
largest conflicts there has ever been. It was known as a "world war" because nearly every country in
the world was involved. There were many tragic and chilling events throughout the war that were
very significant. The war was known as one of the most disastrous wars of all time because of what
the nations put each other through. Many innocent lives were taken during this mournful war. About
50 million troops lost their lives fighting in the war. In Nazi Germany nearly 9,000,000 troops were

Adolf Hitler came into power over Germany in 1933, after fighting in World War I. Under his
brilliant leadership, he was able to break Germany out of Isolation with other countries. Adolf Hitler
was determined to have command and authority over all of Europe. "In September of 1939, Adolf
Hitler, who was over Germany, successfully invaded Poland causing Great Britain and France to
declare war on Germany." On June 10,1940, Italy joined the war because they wanted to defeat
France. Japan joined the war because they wanted to expand in Asia and was determined to take
their land. The United States had produced resources such as oil for the Japanese. When Japan and
China were at war with each other, the United States did not support Japan and prohibited any
further resources from them. Because of this act, the Japanese grew hatred toward the United States
and decided to get revenge. December 7,1941, would go down in United States history as one of the
most tragic events to happen to them. Japan had bombed the United States naval base Pearl Harbor
in Hawaii, killing and injuring over 3,500. The bombing destroyed a lot of the United States aircraft
and destroyed all of their resources. This mournful event caused the United States to enter the war a
year after. They were ready to fight. France reached out to Germany by signing an armistice that
would hope create peace. The Armistice divided France into two parts,

World War II would shape the minds of a countless number of individuals whether they knew it or
not. While war itself is horrible there are times where people feel that they have no other choice but
to fight in one. WWII became one of those wars. The war was necessary and worth fighting at the
time due to the aggressive nature of the German and Japanese cultures. However at the same time
the war would produce a greater number of problems throughout the post war years with the
invention of the bomb and Soviet tensions. Ultimately it appears as though Terkel takes a similar
stance.
WWII was a war that to some countries was necessary to fight in though for others it could be
argued that it was not necessary. For example, the British and French felt they had no choice but to
go to war due to the close proximity both were to an extremely aggressive Germany that it seemed
would eventually point there eye towards both countries. On the other hand it could be argued that it
was not necessary for the United States, who had an entire ocean buffer between itself and Europe,
to get involved in the war in Europe. At the point when America would get involved in the war in
Europe, Britain's as well as Russia's survival were all but guaranteed with the continuation of
American Industrial support (Stoler, 24). With this comes a dilemma. The war in this event could
have ended in a stalemate. Every country in Europe would have been weakened, however Germany

The Battle Of The War II
D–Day On December 7, 1941, the fate of the United States of America changed forever. At the time,
the global conflict known as World War II had been brutally raging on for over two years. American
forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in
Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out. On December 7, 1941, the United
States of America entered WWII ("Origins of the Normandy Landing"). Before the Americans
entered the war, Winston Churchill and the Allies (Britain, Canada, France) were losing the war.
Everything was against them. The Germans were advancing, pushing outwards and taking more of
Europe. The German troops greatly outnumbered those of the Allies. Churchill knew that the only
way to stop Adolf Hitler and the Nazis was to gain a front in Europe and attack the Germans at
home. He began to plan a Normandy invasion. From 1939–1941, Churchill struggled to determine
how he would launch an attack that would be immense enough to stop the Germans. He got his
answer when America joined. He now had the firepower and the troops to launch an assault.
("Origins of the Normandy Landing") For three years, Churchill and the Allies meticulously planned
the invasion. In 1944, they had not quite finished working out the finer details of the invasion.
However, the infamous assault on Normandy, now known as D–Day, was launched. ("Origins of the
Normandy Landing") Launching D–Day was a necessary step

Throughout Art History, it is apparent that techniques are established and flaunted to create some
vivid image of a story, or a message. Up to the post war of World War II, art has delivered a scene
which can be interpreted through context clues such as; current philosophies, current events, and
folk–lore. Then, mainstream art had undergone a significant change in theme post World War II.
New York City, United States of America, became the art capital of the world. Why? It is arguably
due to Abstract Expressionist art and Pop Art known as Modernism. Modernism completely new to
the world, and both of which abandoning some common core themes to art. Two famous artists
whom facilitated and practiced such dramatic alterations in art culture are Paul Jackson Pollock, or
just known as Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol. At first glance, someone with the an eye trained
in art history and lore would look upon some of Jackson Pollock 's art and think, "How is this even
art?" Maybe even said with some foul language. Some may even take it as an insult to Art History.
"How can someone completely disregard the divine techniques in which our classic art is founded
upon?" Well, this is all in the perspective of following the suppressive laws of a mind which may not

Throughout the history of the United States, the American government has employed many
propaganda techniques, usually during times of war and hardships, to evoke an intended reaction
from Americans. "Propaganda is the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate
cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the
propagandist." To control the public during difficult times, the government heavily utilized
propaganda. The wars that propaganda was most prominently employed in were World War I and

effects on American society than positive effects. At the beginning of World War I, ... Show more

Propaganda was even distributed to other countries and nations as a way for the government to show
enemy countries that Americans were unified, and strongly supported the war efforts. The
government created special divisions that would be in charge of the creation and distribution of
propaganda. The first of such special divisions was the Committee on Public Information, which
was instituted by President Wilson towards the very beginning of World War I, and headed by
Wilson's friend George Creel, who was known for being a scandal–seeking journalist. The
Committee on Public Information sent pro–war messages to almost every media source in existence.
It even enlisted the help of 75,000 volunteers known as the "Four–Minute Men." These men spoke
about a wide range of topics. They lectured, and encouraged other organizations, such as Red Cross
and the Boy Scouts of America, to help spread the word and raise more money for the war. One
example of a Red Cross campaign poster slogan is "Help Them to Carry Their Cross: Join Now
American Red Cross." The poster depicts Jesus on a red cross, an army nurse, and a soldier
preparing to go into battle. It is encouraging people to join by making them feel like helping the
soldiers who are fighting for America is similar to helping Jesus when he was suffering on the cross
to save and protect all people. The Boy Scouts of America helped raise money by selling stamps.

For example, the famous English historian and military theorist John Fuller unequivocally calls the
conquest of Lebensraum as the main reason the Nazis attack on the Soviet Union in his book "The
Second World War, 1939–1945.", which was published in London in 1948: "Why, then, Hitler did
not see in alliance with Russia, which could be concluded even a few years before, a much more
reliable guarantee against the war on two fronts? The answer is given in the 14th chapter of the
second volume 'Mein Kampf'. Here Hitler expresses his theory of living space so clearly and in
detail that it really surprises: why Hitler invaded Russia? ". However, the representation of Hitler as
the main author of hundreds of millions of victims in the Second World War, is clearly not satisfied
with the anti–Soviet forces of the West, under whose influence in the sixties began creeping revision
of the fundamental provisions of the Nuremberg judgment associated with changes in motivation,
which explains the reason for the attack on Soviet Union by the Nazis. In this case, military–
strategic situation that developed by June 1941 was exposed to the forefront and allegedly fraught

The war was fought because Nazi Germany with their dictator leader, Adolf Hitler, wanted to take

World War II is one of the most prolific events in American history. While soldiers were away on
foreign soil, thousands of Americans at home were doing their part as well. For example many
citizens worked in factories across the nation producing the supplies the military needed to
accomplish their goal. When people think of the places that most frequently furnished these products
the common perception is that most products were manufactured in the northern industrial states,
although this is not always the case. Throughout the war Louisiana played a critical role in

Louisiana played an important role in nearly every aspect of America's success in World War II, and
likewise, it deserves to be highlighted. The American army lacked adequate preparation to go to war
in 1941, but that soon changed. Nearly half a million soldiers participated in a series of military
maneuvers, or games, across mostly north Louisiana. Fourteen of the 27 divisions of the army took
place in these events. The Louisiana maneuvers have become one of the largest peacetime military
maneuvers in American history. This practice proved to be important for the army. Brigadier
Raymond H Fleming explained that everything the United States Army had, except for bullets,
would be turned loose in Louisiana. This allowed for the soldiers, most of them being newly
enlisted, to gather wartime experience. Likewise, not all commands were fully equipped with the
latest technology, but through these games the ill–equipped commands were able to see the
effectiveness of the new technology. The soldiers that endured these games went through full paced
war–like maneuvers. The Army was divided into two and simulated a mock war between each other.

A state of isolationism was a goal too great for America to handle. America and its leaders had
sought to stay out of both World War I and World War II only to be pulled in by intense happenings
that inflicted chaos on the nations people. World War II would be a time in American history that

the depths of a depression as well as pledge the freedom and prosperity of its opposing nations.
Dangerous discoveries will be made in the world would be left to be governed by two world powers.
Hoping to remain a neutral nation and be in a state of isolationism was a dream that would be ended

Everything would be the same under communist rule. This is what all of the Europeans believed
communists would do for them. All they wanted was order and happiness so that things would get
better for them. Additionally, they didn't have much success with any other types of government in
the past. After all, the USSR had been standing for thirty to forty years by this time. The last reason
that I believe Europeans favored communism was because they simply offered change. It was a very
enticing offer, but in the end, it wasn't enough. To summarize, I think Europeans favored
communism because it would have provided them with necessities that they were lacking, it gave
them a sense of order and structure, and it offered them change. Section 5: Question 7: After the

Allies to try only the Nazi and Japanese leaders. If we had tried those who were supporting them,
although they are equally guilty, it would have been quite difficult. After all, if it weren't for the
leaders it probably never would have happened. The first reason to justify only trying the leaders is

and later were joined by Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. The Allied Powers were the United
States, Britain, France, Soviet Union, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece,
Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. The United States
involvement in World War II lead to many changes overseas and at home. One of the greatest
changes that occurred for the U.S. centered on how the war altered women's roles and how children
were affected by these changes.

percentage of women in the American work force had expanded from 25 percent to 36 percent"

many changes needed to happen.
1World War II was a widely known conflict. 2It was one of the largest international struggle in
history. 3The United States had many people involved in the war. 4Due to this, "few families were
untouched by the war" (Horton). 5This military conflict caused much devastation to households
because of the extensive national involvement. 6However without the mass numbers of Americans
involved, the outcome may have changed.
On the home front children's lives were changed due to having parents off fighting war. Also, for the
first time women on the military went to war, this freed men to fill more important roles in the
military, and also forced them to leave their families in the United States.
II. Argument One – Changes on the Home front for Women and Children
1Many things changed during the war years in both lifestyle and work. 2Various programs were put
into place to help with adjustments associated with war life. 3The war outbreak caused changes in
the availability of everyday essentials along with different obstacles that women and children had to

The World War II: Air War
World War II was one of the deadliest military conflicts in history. There were many different battles
that took place within this war; some more important than others. World War II began once
Germany's new dictator, Adolf Hitler, decided that he wanted to gain power for Germany and for
himself. One of Hitler's first moves in power was invading Poland on September 1, 1939. Many
other countries became involved in this war because of the alliance system. The two sides during
this war were the Allies and Axis powers. German, Italy and Japan were on the Axis powers; France,
Britain, and the United States were on the Allies. Germany first began with the Blitzkrieg tactic
meaning "lightning war". This tactic is based on speed, surprise and was ... Show more content on

Many people were baked alive in this raid. About 873 bombers were bombing the German city.
Dresden did not have any military or industrial targets that opposing countries would have wanted to
destroy; it became known as a terror bombing by the British because it was not a target. The raid
caused many unwanted deaths and destroyed a small city. The casualties that occurred in these
events would not have happened if it were not for the new and improved aircraft. Airplanes have
become very popular ever since Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop solo flight across the
Atlantic Ocean in 1927. Airplanes were used during World War I in dog fights. Dog fights were
battles where to fighter planes fought in the air. Dog fights were popular during World War I but not
as popular during World War II although they still did occur. Airplanes are always being improved
and developed in size, structure, and power. Aircraft strength and power had increased over the
years. There are now more powerful bombers, faster fighters, and a lot of it has to do with the fact
that this time period is also known as the jet age. Hence the use of jet engines in airplanes. In World
War II it was recorded that "aircraft strength went from 1,741 on hand to an authorized level of
15,000" (Lawson and Tillman 13). During World War II there were many improvements made to the

The War I And World War II
Introduction During World War I and World War II life back home changed excessively. When the
soldiers went to fight in World War 1 and World War 2, women and children had to replace men in
the workforce. There was an increase in those affected by the trauma of the wars, and the birth–rates
dropped during this time. Family Families were affected by the trauma and exposure of the war,
causing mental illnesses such as depression. Young children had been exposed to the trauma of war.
A great deal of pressure was put onto the older children because they had to take care of the
household and their younger siblings. Injuries and mental health left soldiers unemployed, which led
to financial difficulty to provide for the children, this forced families to change their standard of
living in some cases ("Impact on soldiers and their families"). Children were also able to help during
the wars through services such as knitting sweaters and making bandages for soldiers overseas.
Sufficiently the topic of war was also beginning to appear in curricular in early 1914. Patriotic
teachers encouraged students to help convince adult males or older brothers to enlist in the war.
Countless children remember war as an economic hardship, grinding tragedy and unbearable grief
("The Children's War"). Separation of fathers or sons left devastating effects on children, many felt
as if their childhood had been stripped from them. This established tension between families as they

After becoming Reich Chancellor in 1933, Hitler swiftly consolidated power, anointing himself
Führer (supreme leader) in 1934. Obsessed with the idea of the superiority of the "pure" German
race, which he called "Aryan," Hitler believed that war was the only way to gain the necessary
"Lebensraum," or living space, for that race to expand. In the mid–1930s, he began the rearmament
of Germany, secretly and in violation of the Versailles Treaty. After signing alliances with Italy and
Japan against the Soviet Union, Hitler sent troops to occupy Austria in 1938 and the following year
annexed Czechoslovakia. Hitler's open aggression went unchecked, as the United States and Soviet
Union were concentrated on internal politics at the time, and neither France nor Britain (the two
other nations most devastated by the Great War) were eager for confrontation. Outbreak of World
War II (1939) In late August 1939, Hitler and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin signed the German–Soviet
Nonaggression Pact, which incited a frenzy of worry in London and Paris. Hitler had long planned
an invasion of Poland, a nation to which Great Britain and France had guaranteed military support if
it was attacked by Germany. The pact with Stalin meant that Hitler would not face a war on two
fronts once he invaded Poland, and would have Soviet assistance in conquering and dividing the
nation itself. On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the west; two days later, France and
Britain declared war on

War I And World War II
Many historians debate rather World War I and World War II were two different parts to the same
war or if they are separate and distinct wars. Even though World War I and World War II were very
different wars, and there were many years in between the two, the outcomes of World War I caused
for World War II to happen because of unresolved issues. World War II is a continuation of World
War I. World War I lasted four years and was the first total war in history. Before World War I
Europe was doing well they had social stability and had a growing democracy. Britain, France, and
Germany had an economic rivalry. The countries were pretty much just waiting for an excuse to
declare war on each other. The spark that began World War I was the assassination of Archduke
Ferdinand of Austria Hungary. Alliances Au were made. Austria–Hungary declared war on Serbia.
Austria– Hungary was Germany's most loyal Ally. Serbia joined forces with Russia, and Germany
then declared war on Russia. The war happened and at the end the allies won the war. After they
won the allies were basically out to get Germany and they wanted to make Germany a less powerful
country. Germany was defeated, but it was not destroyed. To close World War I a peace treaty was
signed. This treaty was called the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles stated that Germany
would have to lose its territories such as Asia, Africa, and Pacific colonies making Germany's army
smaller. Along with Germany losing territory

The War Of The World War II
Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many
events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart–– World
War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war
all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose
between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were
established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis
powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia,
and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved
more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The American–
English dictionary defines total war as "[a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the
territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war
are disregarded." To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense. World War II can be
considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and ideological scale. It was a
war of ideas, a war of losses, and a war of gains; but over all, it was a war of total involvement. It
ripped the world apart, and mankind was shook to its foundation. Every single world power in the

From 1939 to 1945, the deadliest and most destructive war in history, known as World War II, was
in full motion. Prior to the war, the economy was very poor in both the U.S. as well as Germany
with unemployment at an all–time high due to inflation. During this time Hitler was persistant in
occupying Europe and eventually taking over the world, forcing surrounding countries to step in and
stop this insane man. Countries that opposed Hitler and his beliefs, like America, France, and Britain
were part of the Allied powers in contrast, Japan and Germany were part of the Axis Powers. Once
the war started in Europe, Franklin Roosevelt began to realize that the conflict would threat U.S.
security so he began to investigate alternative plans that would benefit the cause without putting the
U.S. directly in the war. Though the war began with Nazi Germany 's attack on Poland in September
1939, the U.S. stayed neutral until a surprise attack from Japan on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941
killing over 2,000 sailors and wounding 1,000 more. And though the Japanese thought the U.S.

One of the most unfortunate yet necessary aspects of leading a nation is facing the prospect of war.
As devastating as war can be, it often is key to ensuring a nation 's freedom and protection. One war
that was certainly devastating on both sides of the battlefield was World War II. The tension in the
Japanese–American relationship had been boiling for a while, between the military blockade of
Japan, and Japan's intrusion into China in direct violation of the Open–Door policy, but the attack on
Pearl Harbor was the exploding point for the War that would eventually lead up to the bombings of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. The weapons dropped on these two cities were used for a number

The irreconcilable damage to the people of the attacked cities, the failure of the American
government as a role model to other countries, and the fact that the attacks were unnecessary due to
other potential courses of action are three of the many reasons that the atomic bomb should not have
been dropped in 1945. Out of all of the terrible attacks in history, the dropping of the atomic bomb is
significant in terms of the number and severity of casualties. Only about half of those killed in the
attack died instantaneously. The remainder of victims suffered over the next month with radiation
sickness, injuries, illness, and malnourishment. The book Hiroshima, written by John Hersey, shares
the accounts of six survivors of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, and it reveals some shocking details
about the suffering of the civilians within the city. In the book, one of the witnesses describes a
graphic and shocking image of the victims of the explosion. He was the only person making his way
into the city; he met hundreds and hundreds who were fleeing, and every one of them seemed to be
hurt in some way. The eyebrows of some were burned off and skin hung from their faces and hands.
Others, because of pain, held their arms up as if carrying something in both hands. Some were
vomiting as they walked. Many were naked or in shreds of clothing. On some undressed bodies, the
burns had made patterns–of undershirt straps and suspenders and, on the skin of some women

World War II is known as the largest and bloodiest war in history. Well over 50 million people died
in the six years of the war claiming the most lives in any war in history. The War consisted of the
Allies and the Axis Powers. The Allies being Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, The United

that participated in the war, Germany and the Nazi party were considered to be the main enemy.
Many great battles were fought in WWII and many weapons of warfare were utilized in combat.
Million upon millions of lives were lost to the Second World War. While many believe Hitler and
the Nazi army to be the cause of WWII, there were other events that set the war in motion and
caused the rise of the Nazi army. Many people assume that Hitler and the Nazi party were the only
cause of starting World War II, but there were many other events that took place before World War
II. It mainly started at the end of World War I. Germany realized that they could not win the war
against Allies and instead signed a treaty. With the peace treaty, Germany owed England and France
over 10 billion dollars. This destoyed Germany's economy. Unemployment rose 40% and there was
anger and uprising all throughout the nation. The people of Germany were enraged and distraught
with the state of things. The people of Germany were humiliated by the loss of the war and the

This even struck off the beginning of World War II. Britain and France both declared war on
Germany in support of Poland, but they were slow to take any effective actions to prevent the
invasion. The French military and government expected Poland would hold out till spring, this
would allow France time to mobilize troops. But according to History.net, Germany demonstrated
the effectiveness of combined arms warfare, in which infantry, armor, artillery and aircraft work in
coordination. This type of war required rapid communication; in preparation, the Germans had
developed radios small enough that every vehicle could be equipped with one. Soviet troops invaded
Poland from the east on September 17th. Under attack from both sides, Poland fell quickly, and soon
Germany and the Soviet Union had divided control over Poland, because of the secret protocol
appended to the Nonaggression Pact. Stalin's forces then moved on to take over Estonia, Latvia and
Lithuania. During the next six months, the lack of action by Germany and the Allies led to talk of a
"phony war." But at sea the British and German navies fought fiercely. Germany had a great
advantage over Britain. The use of U–boats devastated the British navy. Blitzkrieg was a new style

with his Air Force squadron on the island of Pianosa, which is near the Italian cost along the
Mediterranean Sea. Yossarian and his friends endure a nightmarish and utterly freakish kind of

reason it is more important for the squadron members to capture good aerial photographs of

In the 20th century there are so many different events that happened during this time. One of the
most major events that effected the world is World War II. It is an event that will never be forgotten
because of how many different countries were involved and how it affected the Jews as well. During
the war, the United States started to put up posters to get people to join the army and there were
other countries that convinced the people to invest money into the war. Without the propaganda and
the use of artwork on posters and flyers that they used to influence people in the U.S. they may have
never won the war.
One of the main countries that helped support the Allies the most out of every country is the United
States. They provided the most troops and have spent the most money on the war to help other
countries and to help the Jews. The war could not have been won without the support of the
American people fighting and investing into the war. However, people would not have supported the
war without propaganda taking into effect with posters, flyers, even cartoon shows have given the
people the influence to fight the war. With the support of the American people there was a chance to

The battle took place on the street and it became one of the bloodiest battles in World War II.
German troops began to run out of supplies and thousands of people died. Between the two
countries they kept on fighting until Germany surrendered because Hitler did not want to lose any
more of his people. The Axis powers learned that the Allied powers had an advantage. Hitler knew
that he would have to anything in his power to give his troops an advantage in the war. In the year of
1944, Allied powers hoped to regain their control of France. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the Allied
troops into a challenging, but important battle. Eisenhower knew that the battle would be a matter of
life or death. He informed his troops of what they were getting into and mentioned to his troops that,
"You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many
months. The eyes of the world are upon you" ("D–Day"). Eisenhower's words of wisdom towards
his troops shows that he was getting his troops into a deadly situation, but he knew that they could

place on five beaches, two of the beaches were Omaha and Utah. One of the soldiers said, "With a

War is a standout amongst the most unfortunate things in our reality today. It is considerably sadder
that for the most part it comes around in any event once in our lifetime. In the twentieth century
alone we have as of now had two enormous wars. These wars are known as the World Wars just on
the grounds that they included a large portion of the huge nations of the world. Numerous
individuals have died in these wars particularly in the World War 2. War II was a standout amongst
the most dangerous wars we know ever, having upwards of sixty million losses, the greater part of
whom were regular folks. It affected a great deal of nations, all the world, which is the reason the
name is given. This war affected numerous nations on the planet, and harmed the majority of the
nations included enormously. It additionally prompted the destruction of Western European nations
as world forces, abandoning it to the Soviet Union, and the United States. The war began in 1939
and finished in 1945, with the attack of Poland and the Axis surrender, separately. It changed the
economy and the development of huge nations, including Germany, Great Britain, United States,
Japan, Russia and France. Moreover, African Americans assumed a critical part in the United States '
military amid World War II, serving all branches of the military. Around 909,000 were in the Army,

World War II : The Causes Of World War II
World War II is argumentatively one of the largest events in war history. World War II changed that
world and everyone who lived during those six years. Many people believe that Adolf Hitler was the
central cause for the war, however, it is important to understand that there are many other causes.
These include: Treaty of Versailles, Fascism, Hitler and the Nazi party, the Great Depression, and
appeasement. It would be extremely difficult to place blame on only one specific person or event for
World War II. However, a mixture of many things can and may however hold the blame for World
War II. It is crucial to understand the impact that World War II left countries throughout the world,
especially since only eight countries declared neutrality during this wartime. Even though only eight
countries remained neutral during WWII, it does not mean that every other country in the world was
heavily involved in the world. Even countries who were not heavily involved in the war, were still
effected by the war itself. The Treaty of Versailles ended World War I, and because Germany had
lost the war, the treaty was very harsh against Germany. The treaty stated that Germany must accept
full responsibility for the previously ended war and pay thirty three billion dollars for the damages
that remained from the war. This treaty left Germany and the citizens with a shattered economy and

which were Germany, Italy, Japan versus the Allied nations which were led by Britain and its
Commonwealth nation, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States. The Allies
were victorious in the War. It was one of the most significant periods of time in the 20th century.
The war resulted in many changes across the world including major advancement in technology. The
post–war world changes also included the end of end of European colonialism, the civil rights
movement in the United States, and the modern women's rights movement, as well as the programs
for exploring outer space. Two major superpowers emerged from World War II. This included the
United States and United Soviet Socialist Republics. These two countries entered into the Cold War
with each other which really defined the rest of the century. The effects of WWII were not all
positive. The war had a negative impact on many things including the global economy, the growth
of communism in China and the cold war between United States and USSR which was why World
War II was bad. The negative impact was present across the world. Some believe that World War II
was a simple continuation of the First World War that had ended in 1918. Some others believe that
World War II started in 1931 when Japan seized

The World War II
Helga Arthur was born January 16,1943 right in the middle of the second World War II in Berlin
Germany. When I was interviewing Helga she discussed how her parents were originally from
Estonia and had lost everything which lead them to fled to Germany. But then Germany became
unsafe when her father hear the communist were moving in and that there was the potential for
Germany to be divided between the U.S , Britain and Russian. So Helga's father got them forged
german red cross papers and they escaped in the middle of the night through farm lands and keep
going in the directions of where the Americans were. There was a tremendous amount of hunger
along the way and the farmers that didn 't really want to help the people escaping the city because
they did not want to get in trouble but Helga informed me that they could not say no to a hunger
child so her parents and her got sheltering along their journey. After a perilous trip they mange to get
themselves to Hesse Germany where there was a big American base. Helga mentioned at this time
that her parents were both university educated and spoke multiple languages which was very good
because her father ended up going to work for the American army and they hired him because he
spoke English, Russian, Estonian, German, and a little bit of French which allowed him to support
his family. The American soldiers were also extremely good to Helga's family in terms of her father
was able to bring home extra food at night which

The Effects Of The War On World War II

  • 1. The Effects Of The War On World War II Desperate times call for desperate measures, and for the Allied Powers in 1939 it was a desperate time. The Second World War was not going in there favor. The German war machine has ripped through Poland and moves on to the rest of Europe. Part of the reason why Germany can start a war to control the world is that one of the world's biggest superpowers and neighbor, the Soviet Union, was completely silent in the war. In 1941 things are looking up for Nazi Germany, so Germany planed one of the biggest military operations of the war. A plan to invade the communist state of the Soviet Union. The invasion had a massive effect on World War II, it gave a reason for the Soviet Union to join the Allied Powers which would end the war faster. The date ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The War Of The World War II After the last great global conflict, the Second World War was the most extensive and lethal war in history, which involved more than 30 countries. It marked more than 50 million military and civilian deaths. Though dumbfounded by the events of December 7, Americans were also determined. President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war against Japan On December 8. The declaration passed with just one rebel vote. After three days, Germany and Italy, connected with Japan, declared war on the United States. America was involved into a global war. Great Britain and the Soviet Union were in allies in this fight. The job the nation faced in December 1941 was daunting. During World War II, some 350,000 women made a huge job both at home and abroad in the U.S. There is one thing that states: In World War II there were believe that women became skilled of all kind of roles in the workforce in society, and that was permanently impressed on the public awareness. Even though the World War II made significant change in women's life; however, it did not necessarily bring new employment, military, and civil rights opportunities to black women compare with white Americans. Moreover, while white American women in military and other area also shared a history of discrimination based on gender, African American faced as well as gender and race discrimination. • 5. The War Of World War II "One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic."– These words were spoken by Joseph Stalin after the largest and bloodiest battle in human history, Stalingrad. The eastern front of World War II was one the bloodiest single war of all time. Once the Germans invaded the USSR they did not know they had unleashed the Soviet storm. During Russia's great patriotic war, the battles of the eastern front led to the downfall of the German Reich. Even before the war, the Soviets and Germans had had a lot of contact. During Spain's civil war the Soviet and German forces took sides with republican Spain and the nationalists. Germany favored the nationalists because of their ideas being very fascist like, and the Soviets with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After France had been defeated on 25 of June, 1940, Hitler had moved ¾ of his army to the eastern front to gear up for invasion, little did he know of the mistake yet to come. June 22, 1941, just before dawn, German troops cross the border of the Soviet Union. 99 of the 190 German divisions including, including 14 panzer divisions and 10 mechanized, 3,500,000 men, began the invasion of the Soviet Union. The Soviets, taken by surprise, were unsuspecting the German invasion. Even though Stalin had received reports from his spies, and the famous Lucy Spy Ring, about the oncoming German invasion for months, but had dismissed all of them. Some of these were even on the correct date. The Luftwaffe needed air supremacy over the largest air force in the world, so they began by bombing Soviet airfields. The Red Air Force's numbers dropped from 15,000 aircraft to less than 2,000 in under ten days. Then the Germans deployed their famous Panzers against outdated obsolete tanks from the early 30's. Easily outmaneuvering and destroying the Soviet tank resistance in the west. In the initial success Hitler thought that victory would be claimed just before 1942. The first month saw the encirclement of hundreds of thousands Soviet soldiers and the taking of much of the western Soviet frontier. Army group north was heading for Leningrad, the former capital of the Russian empire and the second largest city in the Soviet Union, prior to German attack, local insurgents ... • 7. The War I And World War II During the 20th century, devastating events prevailed over the encouraging ones. Two World Wars appeared during the 1900s: World War I and World War II. Many countries lost soldiers over the course of both wars. During the First World War, America originally decided to remain neutral. American ships had to cease trading with Germany due to a naval blockade by Britain. This effect did not stop Woodrow Wilson from exchanging products with European countries. Wilson trading with Britain and France angered Germany and forced America into war. This war that America was forced into caused roughly 100,000 deaths, and World War II, alone, led to nearly 500,000 deaths. However, the citizens elected one president who beneficially changed American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Atlantic Charter proved that previous underlying tensions between two major powers could be negated through treaties of peace that provide amity between the two. The Charter had 8 clauses. The major components include: countries seek no elevation in power, territorial or other, respect all rights of the people to choose the form of government which they will live, bring the fullest collaboration between all countries' economic fields, and all nations of the world should abandon the use of force (Duhaime web). All of these clauses have one thing in common: they all help America as a country. The Lend–Lease Act allowed America to move forward and contain an active conflict in the face of war. Concerning the Lend–Lease Act, Kennedy Hickman writes, "Seeking to move the nation towards a more active role in the conflict, Roosevelt wished to provide Britain with all possible aid short of war. As such, British warships were permitted to make repairs in American ports and training facilities for British servicemen were constructed in the US. To ease Britain 's shortage of war materials, Roosevelt pushed for the creation of the Lend–Lease Program" (web). The Lend–Lease Act helped Britain because it allowed new military weapons into their country for war. Through an improved military arsenal, Britain could provide aid to American pursuits due to their alliance. Through the Lend–Lease Act, Roosevelt demonstrated his loyalty to ... Throughout World War II there was how it started, the Nazi Regime, and some of the major battles. Much of the war was about the Germans bringing together a group of people called the Nazis. They were under the rule of Adolf Hitler. There were two groups fighting against each other: the Axis powers and the Allied powers. The Axis powers consisted of Japan, Italy, and Germany. The Allied powers were Great Britain, France, and later on in the war, the United States. After World War I, the Allied forced Germany to sign a peace treaty called the Treaty of Versailles. During the war there was two wars fought at the same time; the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre. Both parts were broken down into four parts: the effect on Europe, early dominance period, turnaround period, and the ending of the war (Jorge 1). After World War I all Munn 2 of the European countries tried to become democratic countries, but failed to Communism. Most of their governments were unstable, weak, and unresponsive. They also tried to start Capitalism, but their economies were experiencing depression and extremely high inflation. The U.S did nothing to help these struggling countries because they agreed to a policy of Isolationism (Jorge 1). In March 1939, the whole country of Czechoslovakia was under German control. Next, Hitler wanted to take Poland. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. A few days later Britain and France declared war on Germany. This marked the beginning of World War II (Woolf 25). In June 1940, Mussolini had declared war on the Allies. He already had more than a million men in the Italian army based in Libya (Jorge 1). In neighboring Egypt, the British Army had only 36,000 men guarding the Suez Canal and the Arabian oil fields. Postwar foreign policy after wars such as World War I and World War II was complicated and both had their similarities and differences from each other. World War I (WWI) strengthened our international relations with many countries, It also deteriorated some relations as well and set the stage for America becoming a great power. World War II (WWII) had some of the same effects, solidating our bond with the Allies and breaking others, but also it had many differences. Our policy with Germany greatly shifted because after the war germany was seen as unable to govern their country, therefore the USSR took control of East Germany and France, England, and America took control of West Germany. The Economy was greatly affected as well. America's economy increased dramatically, due to the amount of factory jobs and amounts of production for the war. But Japan's economy plummeted due to the loss of their land in china and many of the islands in the Pacific Ocean and the effects of getting two cities destroyed due to the new found nuclear bombs. All these reactions influenced our foreign policy and caused us to be where we are now. Both wars caused great shifts in this world and molded it to be where it is now. WWI and WWII both had many of the same post–war effects and caused great changes. They shared the display of America's power, brought us and England and France closer together, Boosted and Destroyed economies and much more. They both had differences too such as, WWI destroying Germany's economy instead of splitting it up into two different countries. And WWII having the effect of new nuclear power, and the effects on the Pacific as well as Europe. Many differences and similarities were shown in these two major wars and brought us here. • 13. World War II : The Causes Of World War II The world has experienced many wars; however, none were as horrific as World War II. Approximately 50 million people were killed during World War II, as an illustration, this is about 1 out of every 6 people that make up the United State's population today. This tragedy is a direct consequence of the results of World War I, Hitler's rise to power, and the expansion of Japan and Italy. By the end of World War I in 1917, the war had become a struggle of attrition. Both sides were trying to bleed the other dry of resources and soldiers, exhausting them until they were forced to surrender. At this time in the war, the British had blocked resources from reaching German ports, and it soon became clear that Germany would not triumph over the Allies. To end the war, the German government and the Allies signed an armistice, a temporary halt to the bloodbath until a peace treaty can end it permanently. Eventually, the Treaty of Versailles was signed to officially end the war. This peace treaty was negotiated with the intent of permanently crippling the German economy. The terms were extremely harsh for the Germans. The Allies made the following demands: Germany's armed forces were to be severely restricted in terms of numbers and weapons, Germany was to lose all of its colonies to Britain and France, Germany had to admit that it was responsible for starting the war, and finally, the Germans had to reimburse the Allies for the enormous destruction that the war had caused. To make sure the Germans agreed with their terms, the Allies threatened to invade Germany, leaving them with no choice but to comply with the treaty. The terms of the treaty weakened the Germans, essentially breaking their economy. In July 1919, 1 American dollar was worth 14 German marks. By November 1923, 4 years after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, 1 American dollar was worth 2.52 trillion German marks. Comparatively to other major European nations, Germany was hit harder by the Great Depression that occurred in 1929. German companies accumulated a profit by exporting their goods, and soon had to layoff employees, making unemployment a prevalent problem in the German society. Coupled with a change in government, the economy was in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On June 10,1940, Italy joined the war because they wanted to defeat France. Japan joined the war because they wanted to expand in Asia and was determined to take their land. The United States had produced resources such as oil for the Japanese. When Japan and China were at war with each other, the United States did not support Japan and prohibited any further resources from them. Because of this act, the Japanese grew hatred toward the United States and decided to get revenge. December 7,1941, would go down in United States history as one of the most tragic events to happen to them. • 17. The War Of World War II World War II would shape the minds of a countless number of individuals whether they knew it or not. While war itself is horrible there are times where people feel that they have no other choice but to fight in one. WWII became one of those wars. The war was necessary and worth fighting at the time due to the aggressive nature of the German and Japanese cultures. However at the same time the war would produce a greater number of problems throughout the post war years with the invention of the bomb and Soviet tensions. Ultimately it appears as though Terkel takes a similar stance. WWII was a war that to some countries was necessary to fight in though for others it could be argued that it was not necessary. For example, the British and French felt they had no choice but to go to war due to the close proximity both were to an extremely aggressive Germany that it seemed would eventually point there eye towards both countries. On the other hand it could be argued that it was not necessary for the United States, who had an entire ocean buffer between itself and Europe, to get involved in the war in Europe. At the point when America would get involved in the war in Europe, Britain's as well as Russia's survival were all but guaranteed with the continuation of American Industrial support (Stoler, 24). With this comes a dilemma. The war in this event could have ended in a stalemate. Every country in Europe would have been weakened, however Germany would likely have ultimately have ... • 21. The Battle Of The War II D–Day On December 7, 1941, the fate of the United States of America changed forever. At the time, the global conflict known as World War II had been brutally raging on for over two years. American forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out. On December 7, 1941, the United States of America entered WWII ("Origins of the Normandy Landing"). Before the Americans entered the war, Winston Churchill and the Allies (Britain, Canada, France) were losing the war. Everything was against them. The Germans were advancing, pushing outwards and taking more of Europe. The German troops greatly outnumbered those of the Allies. Churchill knew that the only way to stop Adolf Hitler and the Nazis was to gain a front in Europe and attack the Germans at home. He began to plan a Normandy invasion. From 1939–1941, Churchill struggled to determine how he would launch an attack that would be immense enough to stop the Germans. He got his answer when America joined. He now had the firepower and the troops to launch an assault. ("Origins of the Normandy Landing") For three years, Churchill and the Allies meticulously planned the invasion. In 1944, they had not quite finished working out the finer details of the invasion. However, the infamous assault on Normandy, now known as D–Day, was launched. The American army lacked adequate preparation to go to war in 1941, but that soon changed. Nearly half a million soldiers participated in a series of military maneuvers, or games, across mostly north Louisiana. Fourteen of the 27 divisions of the army took place in these events. The Louisiana maneuvers have become one of the largest peacetime military maneuvers in American history. This practice proved to be important for the army. Brigadier Raymond H Fleming explained that everything the United States Army had, except for bullets, would be turned loose in Louisiana. This allowed for the soldiers, most of them being newly enlisted, to gather wartime experience. Likewise, not all commands were fully equipped with the latest technology, but through these games the ill–equipped commands were able to see the effectiveness of the new technology. When the soldiers went to fight in World War 1 and World War 2, women and children had to replace men in the workforce. There was an increase in those affected by the trauma of the wars, and the birth–rates dropped during this time. Family Families were affected by the trauma and exposure of the war, causing mental illnesses such as depression. Young children had been exposed to the trauma of war. Injuries and mental health left soldiers unemployed, which led to financial difficulty to provide for the children, this forced families to change their standard of living in some cases ("Impact on soldiers and their families"). • 43. The War Of World War II After becoming Reich Chancellor in 1933, Hitler swiftly consolidated power, anointing himself Führer (supreme leader) in 1934. Obsessed with the idea of the superiority of the "pure" German race, which he called "Aryan," Hitler believed that war was the only way to gain the necessary "Lebensraum," or living space, for that race to expand. In the mid–1930s, he began the rearmament of Germany, secretly and in violation of the Versailles Treaty. After signing alliances with Italy and Japan against the Soviet Union, Hitler sent troops to occupy Austria in 1938 and the following year annexed Czechoslovakia. Hitler's open aggression went unchecked, as the United States and Soviet Union were concentrated on internal politics at the time, and neither France nor Britain (the two other nations most devastated by the Great War) were eager for confrontation. Outbreak of World War II (1939) In late August 1939, Hitler and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin signed the German–Soviet Nonaggression Pact, which incited a frenzy of worry in London and Paris. Hitler had long planned an invasion of Poland, a nation to which Great Britain and France had guaranteed military support if it was attacked by Germany. The War Of The World War II Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart–– World War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The American– English dictionary defines total war as "[a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded." To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense. World War II can be considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and ideological scale. The axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria while the allied powers consisted of U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. While the United States Armed Forces were deployed in other parts of the world, the ones back home were facing the struggles of a war they had no choice but to be involved in. This war was a war that lasted for six years and tallied many casualties. The hard fought war was not fought for any reason, though. World War II was a pivotal point in the 1900's for, not only states' rights, but also human rights. The aftermath of the war brought justice to those wronged and a bright future to look ahead to. The United States military had no part in World War II and wished to remain neutral rather than fight. The Japanese, though, saw things differently. A surprise attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base on December 7th, 1941 left the American fleet in peril. According to the article on ushmm.com, the attack left tens of thousands of people dead and the base nearly nonexistent. The attack had severely damaged the fleet and prevented, for a short time, any rebuttal to this attack. After being left almost hopeless and without any course of action, the United States had no choice but to enter World War II. Truman declared war, effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. The War Of The World War II From 1939 to 1945, the deadliest and most destructive war in history, known as World War II, was in full motion. Prior to the war, the economy was very poor in both the U.S. as well as Germany with unemployment at an all–time high due to inflation. During this time Hitler was persistant in occupying Europe and eventually taking over the world, forcing surrounding countries to step in and stop this insane man. Countries that opposed Hitler and his beliefs, like America, France, and Britain were part of the Allied powers in contrast, Japan and Germany were part of the Axis Powers. Once the war started in Europe, Franklin Roosevelt began to realize that the conflict would threat U.S. security so he began to investigate alternative plans that would benefit the cause without putting the U.S. directly in the war. Though the war began with Nazi Germany 's attack on Poland in September 1939, the U.S. stayed neutral until a surprise attack from Japan on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 killing over 2,000 sailors and wounding 1,000 more. And though the Japanese thought the U.S. wouldn't be able to build ships fast enough to continue to help Allies after the destruction, therefore allowing Germany to takeover the UK, but to their surprise, the ambush wasn't as destructive as they thought and the U.S. Navy was ready to retaliate within twenty–four hours. Retaliation was on everyone's mind so with the approval from Congress, the following day, with only one member opposing it, the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. The War Of The World War II One of the most unfortunate yet necessary aspects of leading a nation is facing the prospect of war. As devastating as war can be, it often is key to ensuring a nation 's freedom and protection. One war that was certainly devastating on both sides of the battlefield was World War II. The tension in the Japanese–American relationship had been boiling for a while, between the military blockade of Japan, and Japan's intrusion into China in direct violation of the Open–Door policy, but the attack on Pearl Harbor was the exploding point for the War that would eventually lead up to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. The weapons dropped on these two cities were used for a number of reasons, but ultimately this decision would end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The irreconcilable damage to the people of the attacked cities, the failure of the American government as a role model to other countries, and the fact that the attacks were unnecessary due to other potential courses of action are three of the many reasons that the atomic bomb should not have been dropped in 1945. Out of all of the terrible attacks in history, the dropping of the atomic bomb is significant in terms of the number and severity of casualties. Only about half of those killed in the attack died instantaneously. The remainder of victims suffered over the next month with radiation sickness, injuries, illness, and malnourishment. The book Hiroshima, written by John Hersey, shares the accounts of six survivors of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, and it reveals some shocking details about the suffering of the civilians within the city. In the book, one of the witnesses describes a graphic and shocking image of the victims of the explosion. He was the only person making his way into the city; he met hundreds and hundreds who were fleeing, and every one of them seemed to be hurt in some way. The eyebrows of some were burned off and skin hung from their faces and hands. Others, because of pain, held their arms up as if carrying something in both hands. Some were vomiting as they walked. Many were naked or in shreds of clothing. On some undressed bodies, the burns had made patterns–of undershirt straps and suspenders and, on the skin of some women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World War II : The Great War World War II The devastation left by the Great War (aka World War 1) had greatly destabilized Europe, and in many aspects World War II grew out of issues left unresolved by the conflicts of WW1. In particular, political and economic instability in Germany left by the harsh punishments and terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty, fueled the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. In the years between the first and second world wars there was a time of great instability with a world wide depression. It was also a time when Germany, Italy and Japan developed intense nationalist feelings that led to a desire to expand. Britain and France both declared war on Germany in support of Poland, but they were slow to take any effective actions to prevent the invasion. The French military and government expected Poland would hold out till spring, this would allow France time to mobilize troops. But according to History.net, Germany demonstrated the effectiveness of combined arms warfare, in which infantry, armor, artillery and aircraft work in coordination. This type of war required rapid communication; in preparation, the Germans had developed radios small enough that every vehicle could be equipped with one. Soviet troops invaded Poland from the east on September 17th. Under attack from both sides, Poland fell quickly, and soon Germany and the Soviet Union had divided control over Poland, because of the secret protocol appended to the Nonaggression Pact. Stalin's forces then moved on to take over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. During the next six months, the lack of action by Germany and the Allies led to talk of a "phony war." But at sea the British and German navies fought fiercely. Germany had a great advantage over Britain. The use of U–boats devastated the British navy. Blitzkrieg was a new style of war brought into World War II by Germany. Blitzkrieg meant lightning war, the Germans actually used the term blitzkrieg to refer to a war of short duration, but it came to refer to combined–arms tactics of rapid ... The War Of War II Essay Taking place during the second half of World War II, a solider by the name of Yossarain is stationed with his Air Force squadron on the island of Pianosa, which is near the Italian cost along the Mediterranean Sea. Yossarian and his friends endure a nightmarish and utterly freakish kind of lifestyle which would be defined by bureaucracy and violence: they are seen as inhuman resources by the eyes of their blindly ambitious and foolish superior officers. The squadron is thrown thoughtlessly into quit brutal combat situations and bombing runs in which for some unknown reason it is more important for the squadron members to capture good aerial photographs of explosions than to destroy their targets which is very risky and could end fatal if any mistake were to occur. Their colonels continually raise the number of missions that they are required to fly before being sent home, so that no one is ever sent home. Everyone thinks he is crazy when he insists that millions of people are trying to kill him. Still, no one but Yossarian seems to realize that there is a war going on as Yossarian struggles to stay alive, despite the many parties who seem to want him dead. • 63. The War Of The World War II In the 20th century there are so many different events that happened during this time. One of the most major events that effected the world is World War II. It is an event that will never be forgotten because of how many different countries were involved and how it affected the Jews as well. During the war, the United States started to put up posters to get people to join the army and there were other countries that convinced the people to invest money into the war. Without the propaganda and the use of artwork on posters and flyers that they used to influence people in the U.S. they may have never won the war. One of the main countries that helped support the Allies the most out of every country is the United States. They provided the most troops and have spent the most money on the war to help other countries and to help the Jews. The war could not have been won without the support of the American people fighting and investing into the war. However, people would not have supported the war without propaganda taking into effect with posters, flyers, even cartoon shows have given the people the influence to fight the war. With the support of the American people there was a chance to win the war and put an end to it with the U.S. winning it. During the war, America needed people to join the war so they put posters and flyers for people to come and join. The battle took place on the street and it became one of the bloodiest battles in World War II. German troops began to run out of supplies and thousands of people died. Between the two countries they kept on fighting until Germany surrendered because Hitler did not want to lose any more of his people. The Axis powers learned that the Allied powers had an advantage. Hitler knew that he would have to anything in his power to give his troops an advantage in the war. In the year of 1944, Allied powers hoped to regain their control of France. Dwight D. Eisenhower led the Allied troops into a challenging, but important battle. Eisenhower knew that the battle would be a matter of life or death. He informed his troops of what they were getting into and mentioned to his troops that, "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you" ("D–Day"). Eisenhower's words of wisdom towards his troops shows that he was getting his troops into a deadly situation, but he knew that they could win. Allied aircrafts traveled to Normandy to invade France and regain their power. The battle took place on five beaches, two of the beaches were Omaha and Utah. One of the soldiers said, "With a stream of lead coming towards us, we were at the mercy of the Germans" ("The D–day Invasion" 819). This means that they could not tell the result of the battle yet. A japanese american unit was assembled to fight in the european front, and "It became the 442d Regimental Combat Team and gained fame as the most highly decorated of World War II. Their military record bespoke their patriotism." From official military documents, "The enlisted personnel was composed entirely of Americans of Japanese ancestry. • 73. World War II : The Causes Of World War II World War II is argumentatively one of the largest events in war history. World War II changed that world and everyone who lived during those six years. Many people believe that Adolf Hitler was the central cause for the war, however, it is important to understand that there are many other causes. These include: Treaty of Versailles, Fascism, Hitler and the Nazi party, the Great Depression, and appeasement. It would be extremely difficult to place blame on only one specific person or event for World War II. However, a mixture of many things can and may however hold the blame for World War II. It is crucial to understand the impact that World War II left countries throughout the world, especially since only eight countries declared neutrality during this wartime. Even though only eight countries remained neutral during WWII, it does not mean that every other country in the world was heavily involved in the world. Even countries who were not heavily involved in the war, were still effected by the war itself. The Treaty of Versailles ended World War I, and because Germany had lost the war, the treaty was very harsh against Germany. The treaty stated that Germany must accept full responsibility for the previously ended war and pay thirty three billion dollars for the damages that remained from the war. This treaty left Germany and the citizens with a shattered economy and chaos. The Treaty of Versailles left many Germans angry and frustrated due to the long term effects it ...
