First Day On The Job
First Day on the Job I've been employed in the fast food industry for just over three months now.
That may not seem like very long to someone with years of experience under their belt, but I cannot
stress enough how much these last few months have changed me. I've learned more about personal
responsibility and independence at this job than I did during four years of high school. While the
whole process has been meaningful to me, what really set it in motion was my first day behind the
counter. My first day at a real job taught me that no one is going to hold your hand past high school,
and that they shouldn't be expected to.
I was given papers to study in advance, detailing the ingredients of the food we served and the
methods behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No request to add cheese or hold the sauce was missed in the chaos, and the food was quickly
prepared and sent away to the right register. It was amazing, especially because our cook was also
our manager. Between the meals she prepared, she also kept us all in order. Everyone else
multitasked just as effectively. The supervisor who was training me was also working the drive
through window. Everyone was racing around in their non–slip shoes, effectively juggling more
balls than I even thought possible. I looked down at the rubber non–slip covers I had pulled over a
worn–out pair of sneakers, and realized how temporary I was. If I couldn't keep up, I'd be handing in
my shoe covers and going home before the dinner rush even started.
I signed in, and it was time to find my place in the organized chaos. I met the supervisor responsible
for training me by the drive through window, and between orders from customers she directed me to
the "fountain" area, where drinks and desserts were prepared. It was hardly more than a corner, with
sticky metal containers of fruit and candy flavors embedded in the counter. It faced a soda dispenser,
and an ice cream dispenser that I was about to become very familiar with. My job for the day was to
make drinks and desserts as they were ordered at the drive through window. Simple, right? On
paper, it certainly seemed that way. I didn't even have to ring up the orders or begin to worry about
how the food was made. But in practice, I was dropped

Ordinary People Together Chapter 2 Summary
Chapter Two
"Can we go get my books and things now, Dumbledore?" Thia asked Professor Dumbledore. To her
delight he said yes. It had been about a week after Professor Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts,
adopted Aelitheria Pyremance from the Hodgekin Orphanage.
"Finish your breakfast, get dressed, put your hair up and we will Side–Along apparate to London,"
Dumbledore instructed.
Thia wolfed down her breakfast of eggs, bacon and some toast. She drained her water cup as well.
Thia got dressed and put her long brown blond streaked hair in a pony tail.
"I'm ready, sir," she said. Dumbledore and Thia stepped out of the house and walked some yards
away from the house. Thia held his hand and the two apparated ... Show more content on

And then, one of Otho's children had a second wife after his first one died. And one of their child for
some reason had no magic at all. And so that child grew up and fancied a muggle and so that line
grew quite un–magical for quite some time until about ten generations ago, when they had a wizard
child and then the generations had more magical children and thus Evanen Lance Pyremance was
born and then you." When Dumbledore was telling this, Thia got her school items and only needed
her wand. They went to Ollivander's, the wand shop.
"Ah, hello Albus. And who is this?" A silver haired man greeted them when they came in. She
answered, "I'm Aelitheria Pyremance."
"Pyremance hmm? Is your father,
Evanen Pyremance?" He inquired. Thia nodded.
He reminisced, "I remember when Evenan came in here. He was a red head, sort of long hair like he
didn't cut it in a long time. Had blue eyes. His wand was eleven inches long, made of oak wood, and
the core was unicorn hair. Good for Charms and Transfiguration. Do you know who your mother

Ice Cream Cone Persuasive Analysis
Not all pleasures are created equal. So in the case of how to spend a billion dollars of government
money, a new school for one thousand children is the more moral choice . Buying one million ice
cream cones for one million children may bring them the most pleasure in that moment, but for the
long–term it raises the least amount of happiness and pleasure. In the long run a school will bring
more pleasure and happiness. By providing a place for children to learn and grow they will have
more opportunities as an adult, and be better equipped to deal with everyday life. Raising their
chances at happiness and accomplishment, which defines some pleasures.
The ice cream cone may bring more immediate joy, surely the children will find more pleasure ...

And for each of us they are different. But we all have two kinds, two categories. The simple
pleasures, like bubblegum for the brain. It doesn't engage you, not really, but it occupies you. And
the need for deeper pleasures, one that engages more of your facets. People need to be challenged so
they can grow and feel whole. Many higher pleasures engage you in a deeper academic aspects, they
make you think and wonder – they leave you different then you were when you began. Hence why
learning would be much more beneficial then trying for diabetes. While ice cream makes you feel
good, releases endorphins and makes you happy, education makes you feel good in a completely
different way. Self esteem, confidence, assurance , belonging these are emotions that are probably
rarely found while eating ice cream. However, in education you find your interests, your niche. And
when you can engage, be in flow, and get lost in your own world, to feel completely safe and secure,
this is a pleasure much deeper than simply feeling good . While you can describe them both the
same way – you feeling good – only one is rooted much deeper. One connects with your soul, the
other is merely physical.
But that brings us to a different argument entirely. Who's to say what pleasure means more to
someone? And what pleasures are

Many people have become acquainted with the history and found that some of the greatest people,
such as Alexander the Great and King Solomon, often ate different substances that are related to ice
cream. These substances could be such things as snow with a kind of syrup. "During the Roman
Empire, Nero Claudius Caesar (A.D. 54–86) frequently sent runners into the mountains for snow,
which was then flavored with fruits and juices" ("The History of Ice Cream"). During World War II

No One Ever Became Poor By Giving By Anne Frank
A Helping Hand
"No one ever became poor by giving, " a quote by Anne Frank. My Uncle Shawn did not have the
life we all expect growing up. He lived in a bad part of Los Angeles with 13 brothers and sisters in a
small apartment. His Father died before he was born and his mother died shortly after. He lived in
group homes almost his entire childhood and due to a series of unfortunate minor events went to jail.
You might expect him to be hostile or even dangerous but, it is quite the contrary. If you met him
you would never suspect he had a rough childhood.
My Uncle Shawn is always dressed with a hefty smile and has a positive attitude. Also, he will

The next day we did not see the man whilst we were driving home from school, nor the day after.
My mom had completely forgot about him. However, on the third after originally seeing the man,
we saw him on our way back from school. We were so relieved! My mom drove into the gas station
parking lot and I hopped out of the car with the $80 in my pocket. I went up to the man, who was in
a stained white shirt with a red torn jacket and and a pair of black sweatpants. "Hi, my name is
Dylan, what's your name?" I introduced myself.
"Hi, my name is Jeff," he replied.
"So what happened, how come you don 't have a home?" I asked Jeff.
"Well, my mom passed away a year ago and then I got laid off my job. I couldn't afford the
mortgage on my home and then the bank took it away. My girlfriend left me and the shelter won't let
me in." He said. I grabbed the $80 out of my pocket and said, "Well, I saw you a few days ago and
grabbed this money and when I came back you were gone. Here, take it, it will be enough for a
couple of nights in the Motel Six."
"Oh, thank you so much! You don't know what this means for me." Said Jeff. At that moment I got
goosebumps and a shiver came over me that I couldn't explain.

The Music Video Of Hong Kong
Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, "Ong Ong", on June 3rd 2015.
The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and
cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring
the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song 's name, "Ong
Ong" is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot
of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( "Blur – The Magic Whip: Made in
Hong Kong."). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong
Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status
in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it
will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band
members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce
Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur,
just as their band 's name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy,
funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional
fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of

The Gucci Mane Conspiracy
After his release from prison in 2016, the conspiracy that Gucci Mane is a clone rose due to leaving
his "trap" lifestyle behind, picking up a new, sophisticated lifestyle, and how he will not confirm nor
deny the allegations. To this day, there is still a lot of buzz in the air that the Gucci that was released
in 2016 is not the same Gucci that was incarcerated in 2013.
Previous to his arrest, Gucci Mane became notorious for living and glamorizing the "trap" lifestyle,
a lifestyle heavily influenced by and involved with drugs. From songs like Breakfast (Trap God), a
song with lyrics "I smoke weed for breakfast / I drink lean for breakfast / I take mollies, I take
xannies, I can't eat no breakfast" (Genius, Breakfast) , and Lemonade, with lyrics "I'm moving slow
cause codeine syrup's in my lemonade / I'm standing in the shade and I'm selling lemonade".
(Genius, Lemonade) After his release from Prison 3 years later, Gucci left behind his drug induced
lifestyle and turned his life around to better himself, his career, and the people around him. In
Gucci's autobiography, he describes how he changed for the better, "I looked different from the man
in my September mugshot." (Mane 249) He also adds to the credibility of his new and improved
lifestyle with the lyrics from the hit single Perfect Pint, produced by Mike Will Made It featuring
Rae Sremmurd and Kendrick Lamar, Gucci rhymes "Now I'm back on top like I'm 'posed to be / But

also means juicy watermelon stains on clothes, chocolate splotches on the overalls, and stinky feet
dipped in mud pies. When it comes to summertime there is no denying the beautiful sunshine and
relaxing nights in the yard, but it also means more messy children. Fortunately, with so many
wonderful companies such as Right Bank Babies and Crocs, mothers and fathers have less worrying

The dresses may also turn into flared shirts once your child has outgrown it. Crocs may not be the
cutest sandal around, but do they come in handy! Children are often seen playing on playgrounds in
the summer heat wearing flip flops and open toed sandals. While these types of sandals could be
unsafe because children 's feet can easily come out of the shoe while climbing, parents should
consider investing in a pair of Crocs for their children. These sandals are basically a rubber type
clog that has a backing strap. Not only is the rubber excellent for cleaning, it is also airy because of
the ventilation holes that let out feet sweat. If a chocolate ice cream cone drips on the Crocs, it is
easily washable and extremely easy to dry with a bit of soap and water. Needless to say, they are
excellent to wear in the water as well. Sneakers and sandals made of cloth or leather are
considerably harder to keep clean, especially in the carefree summer months. The Crocs are made of
a specially designed material called Patented Closed Cell Resin that actually resists feet fungus.
Celebrity parent Liv Tyler and her child Milo have been seen sporting the Crocs around town. Crocs
come in various styles such as Crocs Athens Kid 's, Crocs Caymen Kid 's, Crocs Crocling, Crocs
Disney Kid 's, and Crocs MaryJane. A pair of Kid 's Crocs will cost you right around $25.00.

Ice Cream Shop Let's go get some ice–cream said my mom as we were all gather around the tv

residing at almost every corner of Pakistan. The streets were crowded with cars, they were piling on
one another as if they were a herd of bison running for their lives. As the car turned around the
corner I see a line of people outside waiting eagerly to get their hands on the tempting dessert too
delicious to resist. When I entered the shop, I see the endless long lines of people curving around the
counter and out the door. There were so many people there it felt like the whole world was in the
shop all at the same time. All the employees were tumbling over or another to give try and each
person the right cone, they looked like a bunch of dogs who had just seen a squirrel. I waited
impatiently to pick my favorite flavors. Before I bought a cone I gaze with excitement at the never
ending variety of flavors through the frosty glass windows with water gushing out my mouth. The
ice–cream was glistening as it caught a glimpse of the sun. Looking at the ice–cream cone I knew
this was going to be the death of my stomach and if kind of death is this good then I am ready to die

Ice Cream And St. Louis World's Fair
Ice Cream How did Ice Cream come to be and how has it evolved over the years? It seems like an
odd question, but one that none of us know the answer. However, through my research I am able to
answer this question. I have found the origin of Ice Cream. I got to see if the old wives tale about the
Ice Cream Cone and the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904 was true. Also, I now know about America's
mass production of Ice Cream, and that our founders loved this sweet dessert. Ice Cream can be
traced back to the Tang Dynasty in China. The emperor at the time used to call the Ice Cream
makers Ice men. Since Ice Cream was so difficult to make until refrigerating technology, it was only

matter rich or poor, powerful or not powerful. But, we all know the ice cream song, we all

Play: a window into cognitive and social–emotional development. Using flavell, miller, and miller's
discussion of representations and concepts. Young children create mental representations of event
knowledge as a tool to understand the world. When these are generalized and abstracted they
become scripts. This is adaptive for them because it helps predict future occurrences, anticipate
subsequent actions, and participate with others. It provides stability to their world. It is the

Play has always been central to the developmental–interaction approach as a mode for learning. The
focus has shifted over time, however. Initially, with influences from Dewey, pretending was seen as
a central pathway of intellectual development. It was how concepts were defined and built up, and
meanings became organized into coherent wholes, including scripts. The child was seen as an active
explorer/experimenter with needs, interests, and capabilities. The educators constructed the
environment and curriculum accordingly. Learning was seen as a process of understanding the world
and acquiring capabilities to become an effective, productive membership of society in a context
meaningful to the child. Play, thought of as spontaneous, was maximized through scaffolding. The
educator selected and arranged materials, planned experiences, and offered contextual framing all
with space for free development. Pretend play and blocks were key mediums of expression. They
believed this dynamic process to stimulate growth and to integrate the entire organism in a way no
other could. Individuals were members of a group, and group life was fostered through cooperative
learning. They drew on real life experiences for play, personalizing them for meaningful
engagement, emotionally and intellectually. Interpersonal collaboration and negotiation were used to
shape identities. Later, psychological theory began to influence their understanding and use of play,

Persuasive Essay On How To Eat
Following the French restaurant scene, a women's etiquette class on how to eat spaghetti
appropriately takes place in an Italian restaurant. The teacher speaks to the class that they should
only catch three or four strings of spaghetti and eat them silently. However, after a westerner eats
spaghetti casually and makes a loud noise, the entire etiquette class, including the teacher, begins to
shovel the food into their mouths. At this point, the pleasure of eating food has taken place of the
eating tradition of classiness and elegance. Additionally, the film shows a man who is suffering from
a toothache because of eating too much. Even when he is feeling the pain, he is unable to resist the
temptation of dim sum on the subway, which leads him to a trip to the dental office. His tooth has
such a huge abscess that the dentist and nurses almost vomit. For the man, food brings him so much
pleasure that he breaks the boundaries of healthy eating to enjoy the food. Moreover, after the
dentist states that he should start by eating something soft, he buys an ice cream cone right away.
The ice cream attracts a kid who is forbidden from eating sweets by her mom. The man gives the ice
cream cone to the child, and the child guiltily indulges through the ice cream cone. For the child,
food also represents pleasure that breaks the boundary of healthy eating.

Descriptive Essay On The Blue Ridge Mountains
It was finally time to take off. I had anticipated this trip south for several weeks. Now the last item
was packed in the RV and we were ready to hit the road. One of the things I enjoy most is getting off
the beaten path and traveling the backroads. And, we were going to be able to do that on most of this
trip. Part of the advantages of traveling the backroads is being able to take in some fantastic views
of this country's landscape, slowing down our pace enough to enjoy all the "simple pleasures" along
the way, and specifically on this trip, enjoying that native "southern" hospitality.
No matter how many times I see them, my heart always perks up when I first see those Blue Ridge
mountains. And, it is always an inspirational sight to behold when you see that mist rising in the
Smoky Mountains. However, I am just as awe struck by the magnificent views as you wind through
the Nantahala in North Carolina. Beautiful rapids and waterfalls are throughout this National Forest
also. It is spectacular!
As we made our way further south, crossing over in to Georgia, we were greeted by droves of cars
parked along the sides of the roads. People were enjoying the simple pleasure of whitewater rafting.
However, when you are the one pulling a 35 ft RV maneuvering through those hair pin turns, trying
to avoid the cars on both sides of the road, it doesn't seem like a pleasure; at least for the moment.
Then, in the middle of dodging the cars on the side of the road, a van stopped right in front of us. No
kidding, the van stopped in the middle of the lane on a blind curve to let their little boy go to the
bathroom. However, as you can well image, there are no bathrooms! Seriously, traffic came to a
complete halt in the Chattahoochee River National Park. We had to shake our head and laugh at that
one, thankful that no one got hurt! It is at times like this you have to laugh and say, traveling the
backroads is also an adventure!
After that it was smooth sailing. We finished out the last part of our trip driving through a beautiful
little college town. The picturesque setting of "Young Harris" is what I love about traveling the
backroads. It takes longer but you gain a glimpse of small town living. And then we pulled into

Descriptive Essay : Beach Kisses : The Middle Of Summer
Beach kisses It was the middle of summer and we were at the beach, as people are in the summer.
We all have our swimsuits on and where all cooling off, except for Kaileigh who refused to go in
past her knees. Hana and Kylin were splashing each other mercilessly and I was just wading in the
water, spectating this all out water war. After a few more attacks, I notice someone step onto the
sand, Aiden, my long time crush. I stare at him for slightly too long and he looks at me with his
alluring, ice blue eyes. Feeling a blush creep onto my cheeks, I turn back to the water variation of
World War 1 and it seems the two have come to a truce. I hear a fair amount of noise behind me, I

sandals, hats and finally shirts. Aiden yells some inaudible phrase to his friends and speeds towards
the water. "He's grown his hair out since I last saw him " I think to myself as I get lost in the
beautiful scene of him running to the water, a sweet smile on his face and his hair trailing behind
him slightly. I enjoy this until Kaileigh gets up from her spot on the sand and gets in the water to
shake my shoulder. "Alyssa, you're drooling," she says, attempting to hide a fit of laughter, but
failing miserably. I try to laugh off my embarrassment, but to no avail. Then Hana ever so gracefully
walks over to me and whispers... "Ravioli, Ravioli, give hi–" I cut her off by putting my hand over
her mouth which she then continues to lick, making me move my hand and wipe it on her back. We
all laugh at this until I hear my stomach rumble. Out of courtesy, I say, "I'm gonna grab some ice
cream, do you guys want anything?" "Unless they have frozen yogurt, I'll pass," Kylin says in a sour
tone, I discard this because I know she's just being weird. "I'm good," Hana and Kaileigh said in
unison, they stare at each other for a good while until they look away slightly embarrassed. I giggle
at this and walk over to the icecream truck stationed at the restrooms, grabbing my purse along the
way. That was a good idea, I think to myself as I go to wait in line, but stop dead in my tracks. Aiden

scolding sand, he heard her voice echoing off of the walls of the little shack that was passed off as
an ice cream parlor. Angela was thanking the man who had so pleasantly served them as she shoved
a five–dollar bill into his empty tip jar. She lingered under the cheap awning, asking the middle–
aged man questions as if they were old friends being reunited for the first time in a long time. "How
old is your daughter now?" she asked, followed by asking questions about his daughter's future

caught Brennan looking back at her and she began to gracefully jog towards the towels. Just as he

What Is A Diary?
What is a diary?
A diary is a bridge between the written language and our deepest emotions. The reason why a diary
is so special is because it is most often used for one's self, and not intended for publication.
Therefore, there is no need to hide one's true emotions since what is written has no chance of being
shared or judged by anyone. Since a diary usually remains confidential, and free from judgement
and criticism, it is one of the only places where a person has no need for a filter. It can be said that a
diary is an extension of the mind1.
I still don't get it...
Imagine our ocean. Our ocean is filled with around 93 to 236 thousand metric tons of plastic2. This
ocean, although very much real, is also metaphorically the present state of our self–conscious minds
against society. It basically represents our vast pool of consciousness. And the plastic? Well, those
are all the rules, barriers and limits established and built by the culture that surrounds us. With all
these rules, barriers and limits blocking and detouring our train of thought, how can we navigate our
way through the murky, dark waters of our polluted consciousness? That is where a diary comes in
to save the day. With a diary, we don't have to navigate a maze of a million different opinions and
proper etiquettes, simply because we don't want to be judged. The diary is our open book to a far
deeper and honest inner reflection of ourselves, and all we need to do... is simply to start writing.

The Crack Of The Bat Short Story
The Crack of the Bat Crack!! Leah just loved the feel of the vibrating bat, but to start this story right
you have to start from the beginning. Leah was a loveable, spunky, happy girl who was nervous

Summary Of ' The Open Window '
Staring out the open window, Megan let the quiet breeze blow in and flow through her long, brown
hair. This is where she would take in her last moments of silence. She watched as the branches
swayed in the wind, their leaves just starting to turn red and fall to the ground. She thought about
jumping, escaping reality, but instead turned and stepped away, dragging the fabric of her puffed up,
white dress with her. Memories of her mother started to flood in her mind, drowning her with
unpleasant reflections. She wondered if she would be able to make it through the rest of the day.
Summer was approaching, Megan could tell by the way the warmth of the sun danced across her
skin. She was finishing up her last week of school, excited to see what summer adventures she
would have this year with her parents. The school bell rang and all of the students ran to line up in
front of the door, screaming goodbyes at the teacher and at each other. One by one, they exited the
classroom, made their way down the once colorful halls, and then out the doors to greet whoever
was picking them up that day. Megan searched the crowd of parents, sprinting towards her father
who was standing with his arms wide open. "How was your day Meg? Did you learn any essential
information today?" her father had asked, embracing her in his gigantic bear arms. From her view,
her father stood like a tower, hovering over everything beneath him. Education, to him, was
important and he wanted to make sure she got

Personal Narrative: A New Place In Detroit
I felt the bumping and heard the bus frame squeal quietly as we were on the journey to destination.
We were in Detroit, Michigan for a mission trip. It was a new place full of new things for me to
experience. And the most eye–opening experience for me was when we helped a neighborhood
clean out a disastrous and neglected alley. We pulled up to the destination and I heard the sound of
people's footsteps as we exited the bus and took a glance around, trying to absorb my surroundings.
This was our 3rd day in Detroit, and up until today, my sights have been of fancy hotels, huge
stadiums, crowded streets, and skyscrapers escalating high in the sky. This place looked a lot more
at home with the vibrant green grass in the yards, a family hanging ... Show more content on

As we looked we realized that what we had witnessed before was only the beginning. There were
houses with broken windows, caved in roofs and plant life invading into the house space. These
houses were deteriorating in front of our eyes. Some houses had broke open doors with the
belongings inside thrown about like a tornado had gone through it. I gasped as my jaw dropped. I
couldn't believe what I was seeing. I knew people had worries about us going to Detroit, but the
place we were located was luxurious compared to what I was seeing now. One of my youth leaders
explained that this was one of the more troubled parts of Detroit, the reason we came here to help.
When things started going bad everyone up and left their homes in order to escape, with all these
homes be evacuated, criminals would break in to tear out the copper and steal other belongings.
Some of the deteriorating abandoned houses had papers on them that labeled a date that they would
get cleaned out and tear down, and all those dates had already been past while the houses stood there
still. Multiple signs showed that this neighborhood in Detroit is being neglected, and clearly has

A Short Story : A Story?
It was a dark cool early morning in Fairmount. This was a rich neighborhood with houses the size of
mansions. The people who lived there were mainly CEO's of a business or doctors. Somewhere near
the middle of the neighborhood was a very large house home to a single mother, Emma Thompson,
and her 5 year old daughter, Ruby Thompson. It was somewhere around 3:00am When Emma woke
up. The song that an ice cream truck plays woke her up. Ice cream trucks never came through this
neighborhood and if they did they definitely would not be driving through a neighborhood at
3:00am. Emma had never heard an ice cream truck before, but somehow she knew how this specific
truck's song would end. At the very end of the song it was sound like a toy slowly dying. Emma
made sure Ruby was still asleep and went outside to see what was going on. Once she got outside
the ice cream truck was gone and the song had died away as well. Like any normal person, Emma
thought she had just imagined the whole thing, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that she had
heard that ice cream truck before and it's song that always messed up at the end. A few hours later
the ice cream truck was long forgotten. The doorbell rang and Emma went to go see who was at the
door. There was a package waiting for her and she took it inside wondering who could've sent her
the package. Emma went inside to go make sure Ruby was ready for school. Once Ruby got on the
school bus Emma opened the package. Inside was a doll that

Mothers beach holds a dear place in my heart. It's where mothers bring their children knowing the
calm, cool waves will allow their young to experience all the joy a beach can provide. I had been

that we had our ghostly white sheen and smelled like chemically produced summer, we were ready

My Personal Experiences In My Life
Essay #1 Have you ever felt like life is difficult? Or not to your expectations? Chances are that we
all have to deal with some difficult situations at times. When I was in Middle School I struggled to
fit in with my classmates. I have always been quiet and just listened to their conversations. They
always had so much to talk about and plans to see movies and other plans such as going to parties
and other social gatherings. But I was never included or invited. I remember one day I came home
and went straight to my room, laid down on my bed and cried. My mom came into my room and
asked what was wrong. I told her what happened that made me feel very sad and cry. A girl in my
group passed out invitations for her birthday party to everyone but me. My mother told me that if I
had received the invitation for the birthday party I would probably be ignored and they would act
like as if I wasn't there. And she also said "this is a life lesson that I want you to remember, when
you invite someone make sure you include the whole group or invite privately. Then she told her
story about not having time to be with friends. She came to Santa Barbara from Mexico when she
was seventeen years old with her older sister. A single mother of two daughters, one that was five

strict as it may be, is selling itself as such; I plan to try and find out why. It seems HCG (Human

are of baby boomer and older age, you may recall this being popular when you were younger. Now,
to answer a nagging, yet presumably distasteful, question: yes, this is that same diet you heard of
when you were younger wherein pregnant women sold their urine to doctors so they could harvest
the hormone. This derivative of prego–pee was then injected into hopeful masses of women looking
to drop a sizeable amount of weight without having to stick their fingers down their throat or take
"diet pills", which were then simply over–glorified, medically manufactured, fancy meth by

Banning Books In Schools Essay
Thesis: Classic works of literature should not be amended or banned because the novels pertain to
pivotal moments in history and help shape literary works today.
Often, groups of people with similar interests will congregate with the intent of banning a book or
ridding it of certain material. Not only does this strip classic literature of its raw delicacies, but it
violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. In New York in 1949, classic works
such as "Oliver Twist" and "The Merchant of Venice" were thought to generate hatred toward to
Jews (Gould). While some may be offended by an author's point of view or ideals, removing
potentially offensive language from books not only violates the right to freedom of speech, but ...

Strongly opposing censorship, Jenkins claims, "According to this perspective, children can only
respond to books by imitating what they read. If, for example, a book tells a story about a child
getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers will
respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too. Children really
have much more complicated minds than that – they aren't just passive vessels. Books are really just
one piece of their whole world" (University of Illinois). Jenkins comments on the impressionable
youth and the impact that works of literature have on them to prove that the youth is more mature
and sensible than certain institutions believe them to be. By removing questionable material from
books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all trust and confidence in readers.
Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on their knowledge and does not allow
them to appreciate timeless works. Jenkins also says, "The act of banning a book is taking a public
stance to intimidate potential readers. It's almost as if they're saying, 'Read this, and you will meet
with our disapproval.' It's definitely more of a symbolic act, in the same way that flag burning is a
symbolic act" (University of

Descriptive Essay About A Sacred Place
It goes without saying that everyone on earth has at least one sanctuary. For some, this place is high
up in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a
lack of attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a
place as close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a
library, or on a quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself
have found my haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in
North Carolina. It is the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn't too
busy to relax and breathe in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is
peaceful and serene, but still bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always
uplifting, and flawless in its own way.
My family used to visit there once a year for about a week in the summer. We would go camping
and spend the majority of our time frequenting the beach. Back then I was tiny, but even now I
know I would be overwhelmed by the vast space of the sky opened up over me, blue and deep in a
reflection of the water below it. I would try with all my might to run through the grainy, hot sand
scraping away at the bottoms of my burning feet onto cooler ground, where cool ocean water

pleasant to step outside and be surrounded by warm air once again after coming from the chill of
Kansas earlier that morning. Of course the hotel we were staying at wasn't right beside the airport,
we rented a cab to take us there. Our cab driver acted as if she knew where she was going; although,
we ended up getting lost for around fifteen minutes making the ride an hour total. Once we finally
arrived, we were eager to reach our room, put on our swimsuits, and hit the beach! By the time we
had settled in to the room and headed out to the beach it was about 2:00. It had been a few years

The Ring Of The Phone Momentarily Halted The Ever Present...
The ring of the phone momentarily halted the ever present tears. "Hello," I said softly, "Oh, hi." It
had been at least a year since I had last spoken with my father and I didn't quite know what to say.
Trying to keep the crack out of my voice I told him of the impending divorce. "I love you," he said.
"I never knew," I replied. I could hear the tears falling compassionately on the other end of the
phone. "I'm sorry," I said. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just never knew you loved me." Tears
prevented either of us from speaking. Then we shared a little more and hung up. A particular sadness
circled but I didn't want to reflect on it at the time. Throughout his life, in his own way, my dad did
love me. Gone during the week, and home only on weekends, didn't allow us to spend time alone
with each other. Maybe I just don't remember. Isn't a father just supposed to love his children? A
lover of animals, my dad could not stand to hear the painful wails of the dog next door tied to a tree
so he went over and brought her home. The neighbors went on vacation leaving their teenage son to
care for the dog which he did not. We named her Spooky and I guess the neighbors didn't care as
they never said a word. Spooky and my dad were buddies and if we went out for an ice cream cone,
Spooky went too, and was treated to her own cone. Another evening, my parents were in the park
across the street from our home waiting for the Labor Day concert and pageant to begin

Narrative Essay : A Beautiful Day
It was a warm, perfect September morning. All was right with Mrs. Johnson. She had her hair all
done up and she had her favorite dress on. It was light red. It was the same color as the trees that
were starting to change. The sun had come up and it shined beautifully through the kitchen window,
which exposed the delicious breakfast she had prepared.
After saying goodbye to Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson left her home with a bright shining smile on her
face. It was going to be a great day. Every day, Mrs. Johnson stops at a small shop to get some
jellybeans. She gets a baggy and fills it with as many jellybeans as possible. She puts the baggy in
her purse after she pays. She gave the cashier an extra 50c because she had smiled back at Mrs.
Johnson.
She always took a new route so she would see new people and new places everyday. Yesterday, she
went to the eastern part of the city. Today, she will go to the western side. As she walked, she she
noticed everyone's hurried, stressed, and angry faces. Yet, she smiled at everybody she passed. One
young lady looked particularly hurried and tired. "Hello! What a beautiful day it is!" Mrs. Johnson
said as she made her way to the young woman. "What? Oh, yes," The young woman continued
walking, this time a little quicker. "You seem very tired. May I help you in any way?" Mrs Johnson
walked quicker too so she could keep up with her. " No thank you. I really need to go now. I am
already very late and I do not want to lose my new job." The

First Day On The Job

  • 1. First Day On The Job First Day on the Job I've been employed in the fast food industry for just over three months now. That may not seem like very long to someone with years of experience under their belt, but I cannot stress enough how much these last few months have changed me. I've learned more about personal responsibility and independence at this job than I did during four years of high school. While the whole process has been meaningful to me, what really set it in motion was my first day behind the counter. My first day at a real job taught me that no one is going to hold your hand past high school, and that they shouldn't be expected to. I was given papers to study in advance, detailing the ingredients of the food we served and the methods behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No request to add cheese or hold the sauce was missed in the chaos, and the food was quickly prepared and sent away to the right register. It was amazing, especially because our cook was also our manager. Between the meals she prepared, she also kept us all in order. Everyone else multitasked just as effectively. The supervisor who was training me was also working the drive through window. Everyone was racing around in their non–slip shoes, effectively juggling more balls than I even thought possible. I looked down at the rubber non–slip covers I had pulled over a worn–out pair of sneakers, and realized how temporary I was. If I couldn't keep up, I'd be handing in my shoe covers and going home before the dinner rush even started. I signed in, and it was time to find my place in the organized chaos. I met the supervisor responsible for training me by the drive through window, and between orders from customers she directed me to the "fountain" area, where drinks and desserts were prepared. It was hardly more than a corner, with sticky metal containers of fruit and candy flavors embedded in the counter. It faced a soda dispenser, and an ice cream dispenser that I was about to become very familiar with. My job for the day was to make drinks and desserts as they were ordered at the drive through window. Simple, right? On paper, it certainly seemed that way. I didn't even have to ring up the orders or begin to worry about how the food was made. But in practice, I was dropped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It had been about a week after Professor Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, adopted Aelitheria Pyremance from the Hodgekin Orphanage. "Finish your breakfast, get dressed, put your hair up and we will Side–Along apparate to London," Dumbledore instructed. Thia wolfed down her breakfast of eggs, bacon and some toast. She drained her water cup as well. Thia got dressed and put her long brown blond streaked hair in a pony tail. "I'm ready, sir," she said. And then, one of Otho's children had a second wife after his first one died. And one of their child for some reason had no magic at all. When Dumbledore was telling this, Thia got her school items and only needed her wand. They went to Ollivander's, the wand shop. "Ah, hello Albus. And who is this?" A silver haired man greeted them when they came in. She answered, "I'm Aelitheria Pyremance." "Pyremance hmm? Is your father, Evanen Pyremance?" He inquired. Thia nodded. He reminisced, "I remember when Evenan came in here. He was a red head, sort of long hair like he didn't cut it in a long time. Had blue eyes. • 5. Ice Cream Cone Persuasive Analysis Not all pleasures are created equal. So in the case of how to spend a billion dollars of government money, a new school for one thousand children is the more moral choice . Buying one million ice cream cones for one million children may bring them the most pleasure in that moment, but for the long–term it raises the least amount of happiness and pleasure. In the long run a school will bring more pleasure and happiness. By providing a place for children to learn and grow they will have more opportunities as an adult, and be better equipped to deal with everyday life. Raising their chances at happiness and accomplishment, which defines some pleasures. The ice cream cone may bring more immediate joy, surely the children will find more pleasure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And for each of us they are different. But we all have two kinds, two categories. The simple pleasures, like bubblegum for the brain. It doesn't engage you, not really, but it occupies you. And the need for deeper pleasures, one that engages more of your facets. People need to be challenged so they can grow and feel whole. Many higher pleasures engage you in a deeper academic aspects, they make you think and wonder – they leave you different then you were when you began. Hence why learning would be much more beneficial then trying for diabetes. While ice cream makes you feel good, releases endorphins and makes you happy, education makes you feel good in a completely different way. Self esteem, confidence, assurance , belonging these are emotions that are probably rarely found while eating ice cream. However, in education you find your interests, your niche. And when you can engage, be in flow, and get lost in your own world, to feel completely safe and secure, this is a pleasure much deeper than simply feeling good . While you can describe them both the same way – you feeling good – only one is rooted much deeper. One connects with your soul, the other is merely physical. But that brings us to a different argument entirely. Who's to say what pleasure means more to someone? And what pleasures are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He lived in a bad part of Los Angeles with 13 brothers and sisters in a small apartment. His Father died before he was born and his mother died shortly after. He lived in group homes almost his entire childhood and due to a series of unfortunate minor events went to jail. You might expect him to be hostile or even dangerous but, it is quite the contrary. My mom drove into the gas station parking lot and I hopped out of the car with the $80 in my pocket. I went up to the man, who was in a stained white shirt with a red torn jacket and and a pair of black sweatpants. "Hi, my name is Dylan, what's your name?" I introduced myself. "Hi, my name is Jeff," he replied. "So what happened, how come you don 't have a home?" I asked Jeff. "Well, my mom passed away a year ago and then I got laid off my job. I couldn't afford the mortgage on my home and then the bank took it away. My girlfriend left me and the shelter won't let me in." He said. I grabbed the $80 out of my pocket and said, "Well, I saw you a few days ago and grabbed this money and when I came back you were gone. Here, take it, it will be enough for a couple of nights in the Motel Six." "Oh, thank you so much! You don't know what this means for me." Said Jeff. • 11. The Music Video Of Hong Kong Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, "Ong Ong", on June 3rd 2015. The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song 's name, "Ong Ong" is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( "Blur – The Magic Whip: Made in Hong Kong."). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band 's name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of Hong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Gucci Mane Conspiracy After his release from prison in 2016, the conspiracy that Gucci Mane is a clone rose due to leaving his "trap" lifestyle behind, picking up a new, sophisticated lifestyle, and how he will not confirm nor deny the allegations. To this day, there is still a lot of buzz in the air that the Gucci that was released in 2016 is not the same Gucci that was incarcerated in 2013. Previous to his arrest, Gucci Mane became notorious for living and glamorizing the "trap" lifestyle, a lifestyle heavily influenced by and involved with drugs. From songs like Breakfast (Trap God), a song with lyrics "I smoke weed for breakfast / I drink lean for breakfast / I take mollies, I take xannies, I can't eat no breakfast" (Genius, Breakfast) , and Lemonade, with lyrics "I'm moving slow cause codeine syrup's in my lemonade / I'm standing in the shade and I'm selling lemonade". (Genius, Lemonade) After his release from Prison 3 years later, Gucci left behind his drug induced lifestyle and turned his life around to better himself, his career, and the people around him. In Gucci's autobiography, he describes how he changed for the better, "I looked different from the man in my September mugshot." (Mane 249) He also adds to the credibility of his new and improved lifestyle with the lyrics from the hit single Perfect Pint, produced by Mike Will Made It featuring Rae Sremmurd and Kendrick Lamar, Gucci rhymes "Now I'm back on top like I'm 'posed to be / But I done poured so many pints that shit got ... Summertime also means juicy watermelon stains on clothes, chocolate splotches on the overalls, and stinky feet dipped in mud pies. When it comes to summertime there is no denying the beautiful sunshine and relaxing nights in the yard, but it also means more messy children. Fortunately, with so many wonderful companies such as Right Bank Babies and Crocs, mothers and fathers have less worrying to do about having children that look muddled and disheveled at those family barbeques or summer festivals. Children are often seen playing on playgrounds in the summer heat wearing flip flops and open toed sandals. While these types of sandals could be unsafe because children 's feet can easily come out of the shoe while climbing, parents should consider investing in a pair of Crocs for their children. These sandals are basically a rubber type clog that has a backing strap. Not only is the rubber excellent for cleaning, it is also airy because of the ventilation holes that let out feet sweat. If a chocolate ice cream cone drips on the Crocs, it is easily washable and extremely easy to dry with a bit of soap and water. Needless to say, they are excellent to wear in the water as well. Sneakers and sandals made of cloth or leather are considerably harder to keep clean, especially in the carefree summer months. The Crocs are made of a specially designed material called Patented Closed Cell Resin that actually resists feet fungus. Celebrity parent Liv Tyler and her child Milo have been seen sporting the Crocs around town. Crocs come in various styles such as Crocs Athens Kid 's, Crocs Caymen Kid 's, Crocs Crocling, Crocs Disney Kid 's, and Crocs MaryJane. A pair of Kid 's Crocs will cost you right around $25.00. While we were driving in the car we drove past the beautiful mosques residing at almost every corner of Pakistan. The streets were crowded with cars, they were piling on one another as if they were a herd of bison running for their lives. As the car turned around the corner I see a line of people outside waiting eagerly to get their hands on the tempting dessert too delicious to resist. When I entered the shop, I see the endless long lines of people curving around the counter and out the door. There were so many people there it felt like the whole world was in the shop all at the same time. All the employees were tumbling over or another to give try and each person the right cone, they looked like a bunch of dogs who had just seen a squirrel. I waited impatiently to pick my favorite flavors. Before I bought a cone I gaze with excitement at the never ending variety of flavors through the frosty glass windows with water gushing out my mouth. The ice–cream was glistening as it caught a glimpse of the sun. Looking at the ice–cream cone I knew this was going to be the death of my stomach and if kind of death is this good then I am ready to die happily. • 19. Ice Cream And St. Louis World's Fair Ice Cream How did Ice Cream come to be and how has it evolved over the years? It seems like an odd question, but one that none of us know the answer. However, through my research I am able to answer this question. I have found the origin of Ice Cream. I got to see if the old wives tale about the Ice Cream Cone and the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904 was true. Also, I now know about America's mass production of Ice Cream, and that our founders loved this sweet dessert. Ice Cream can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty in China. Ice Cream is in almost every American's fridge and some have it on a daily basis. It doesn't matter rich or poor, powerful or not powerful. But, we all know the ice cream song, we all remember running out to the Ice Cream truck as a child and begging for Ice Cream. We have Ice Cream at school for parties or for Ice Cream dates. Ice Cream has grown so much. Once it was a small idea from someone and now has become its own industry. Its cool to think that during President Madison's term they might have been having an Ice Cream while discussing a law that was put in place back then. Using flavell, miller, and miller's discussion of representations and concepts. Young children create mental representations of event knowledge as a tool to understand the world. When these are generalized and abstracted they become scripts. This is adaptive for them because it helps predict future occurrences, anticipate subsequent actions, and participate with others. Play has always been central to the developmental–interaction approach as a mode for learning. The focus has shifted over time, however. Initially, with influences from Dewey, pretending was seen as a central pathway of intellectual development. It was how concepts were defined and built up, and meanings became organized into coherent wholes, including scripts. The child was seen as an active explorer/experimenter with needs, interests, and capabilities. The educators constructed the environment and curriculum accordingly. Learning was seen as a process of understanding the world and acquiring capabilities to become an effective, productive membership of society in a context meaningful to the child. Play, thought of as spontaneous, was maximized through scaffolding. The educator selected and arranged materials, planned experiences, and offered contextual framing all with space for free development. Pretend play and blocks were key mediums of expression. They believed this dynamic process to stimulate growth and to integrate the entire organism in a way no other could. Individuals were members of a group, and group life was fostered through cooperative learning. • 23. Persuasive Essay On How To Eat Following the French restaurant scene, a women's etiquette class on how to eat spaghetti appropriately takes place in an Italian restaurant. The teacher speaks to the class that they should only catch three or four strings of spaghetti and eat them silently. However, after a westerner eats spaghetti casually and makes a loud noise, the entire etiquette class, including the teacher, begins to shovel the food into their mouths. At this point, the pleasure of eating food has taken place of the eating tradition of classiness and elegance. Additionally, the film shows a man who is suffering from a toothache because of eating too much. Even when he is feeling the pain, he is unable to resist the temptation of dim sum on the subway, which leads him to a trip to the dental office. His tooth has such a huge abscess that the dentist and nurses almost vomit. For the man, food brings him so much pleasure that he breaks the boundaries of healthy eating to enjoy the food. Moreover, after the dentist states that he should start by eating something soft, he buys an ice cream cone right away. The ice cream attracts a kid who is forbidden from eating sweets by her mom. The man gives the ice cream cone to the child, and the child guiltily indulges through the ice cream cone. For the child, food also represents pleasure that breaks the boundary of healthy eating. • 25. Descriptive Essay On The Blue Ridge Mountains It was finally time to take off. I had anticipated this trip south for several weeks. Now the last item was packed in the RV and we were ready to hit the road. One of the things I enjoy most is getting off the beaten path and traveling the backroads. And, we were going to be able to do that on most of this trip. Part of the advantages of traveling the backroads is being able to take in some fantastic views of this country's landscape, slowing down our pace enough to enjoy all the "simple pleasures" along the way, and specifically on this trip, enjoying that native "southern" hospitality. No matter how many times I see them, my heart always perks up when I first see those Blue Ridge mountains. And, it is always an inspirational sight to behold when you see that mist rising in the Smoky Mountains. However, I am just as awe struck by the magnificent views as you wind through the Nantahala in North Carolina. Beautiful rapids and waterfalls are throughout this National Forest also. It is spectacular! As we made our way further south, crossing over in to Georgia, we were greeted by droves of cars parked along the sides of the roads. People were enjoying the simple pleasure of whitewater rafting. However, when you are the one pulling a 35 ft RV maneuvering through those hair pin turns, trying to avoid the cars on both sides of the road, it doesn't seem like a pleasure; at least for the moment. Then, in the middle of dodging the cars on the side of the road, a van stopped right in front of us. No kidding, the van stopped in the middle of the lane on a blind curve to let their little boy go to the bathroom. However, as you can well image, there are no bathrooms! Seriously, traffic came to a complete halt in the Chattahoochee River National Park. We had to shake our head and laugh at that one, thankful that no one got hurt! It is at times like this you have to laugh and say, traveling the backroads is also an adventure! After that it was smooth sailing. We finished out the last part of our trip driving through a beautiful little college town. The picturesque setting of "Young Harris" is what I love about traveling the backroads. We all have our swimsuits on and where all cooling off, except for Kaileigh who refused to go in past her knees. Hana and Kylin were splashing each other mercilessly and I was just wading in the water, spectating this all out water war. After a few more attacks, I notice someone step onto the sand, Aiden, my long time crush. I stare at him for slightly too long and he looks at me with his alluring, ice blue eyes. Feeling a blush creep onto my cheeks, I turn back to the water variation of World War 1 and it seems the two have come to a truce. I hear a fair amount of noise behind me, I turn to see Aiden and his friends preparing to to get in the water. All five of the fit boys remove their sandals, hats and finally shirts. Aiden yells some inaudible phrase to his friends and speeds towards the water. "He's grown his hair out since I last saw him " I think to myself as I get lost in the beautiful scene of him running to the water, a sweet smile on his face and his hair trailing behind him slightly. I enjoy this until Kaileigh gets up from her spot on the sand and gets in the water to shake my shoulder. "Alyssa, you're drooling," she says, attempting to hide a fit of laughter, but failing miserably. I try to laugh off my embarrassment, but to no avail. Then Hana ever so gracefully walks over to me and whispers... "Ravioli, Ravioli, give hi–" I cut her off by putting my hand over her mouth which she then continues to lick, making me move my hand and wipe it on her back. We all laugh at this until I hear my stomach rumble. Out of courtesy, I say, "I'm gonna grab some ice cream, do you guys want anything?" "Unless they have frozen yogurt, I'll pass," Kylin says in a sour tone, I discard this because I know she's just being weird. "I'm good," Hana and Kaileigh said in unison, they stare at each other for a good while until they look away slightly embarrassed. I giggle at this and walk over to the icecream truck stationed at the restrooms, grabbing my purse along the way. The reason why a diary is so special is because it is most often used for one's self, and not intended for publication. Therefore, there is no need to hide one's true emotions since what is written has no chance of being shared or judged by anyone. Since a diary usually remains confidential, and free from judgement and criticism, it is one of the only places where a person has no need for a filter. Well, those are all the rules, barriers and limits established and built by the culture that surrounds us. With all these rules, barriers and limits blocking and detouring our train of thought, how can we navigate our way through the murky, dark waters of our polluted consciousness? That is where a diary comes in to save the day. With a diary, we don't have to navigate a maze of a million different opinions and proper etiquettes, simply because we don't want to be judged. • 53. My Personal Experiences In My Life Essay #1 Have you ever felt like life is difficult? Or not to your expectations? Chances are that we all have to deal with some difficult situations at times. When I was in Middle School I struggled to fit in with my classmates. I have always been quiet and just listened to their conversations. They always had so much to talk about and plans to see movies and other plans such as going to parties and other social gatherings. But I was never included or invited. I remember one day I came home and went straight to my room, laid down on my bed and cried. My mom came into my room and asked what was wrong. I told her what happened that made me feel very sad and cry. A girl in my group passed out invitations for her birthday party to everyone but me. My mother told me that if I had received the invitation for the birthday party I would probably be ignored and they would act like as if I wasn't there. And she also said "this is a life lesson that I want you to remember, when you invite someone make sure you include the whole group or invite privately. Then she told her story about not having time to be with friends. She came to Santa Barbara from Mexico when she was seventeen years old with her older sister. A single mother of two daughters, one that was five years old and the other six and a half. And also my mother's youngest sister who was seven years old. • 55. Obesity And Its Effects On America Essay It finally came! Ok, well, it was actually in the mailbox since yesterday and I hadn 't checked it until today... Nevertheless, it came! Yes folks, I have bought into this recently resurging fad, as I have with many trendy diets, and, as I 'm sure many of you reading this have, as well. We are always in search of that magic pill that flips a switch in us and makes us shed our flabby shells. This diet plan, strict as it may be, is selling itself as such; I plan to try and find out why. It seems HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) is everywhere you turn lately; health food stores, magazine racks, your neighbors ' blog. If you enter it into the search engine the brand sponsored "top ten lists", the many hundreds of venders and the company funded "safety review" sites come flooding at you by the hundreds of thousands; making an already difficult decision spiral into chaos. For those of you who are of baby boomer and older age, you may recall this being popular when you were younger. Now, to answer a nagging, yet presumably distasteful, question: yes, this is that same diet you heard of when you were younger wherein pregnant women sold their urine to doctors so they could harvest the hormone. This derivative of prego–pee was then injected into hopeful masses of women looking to drop a sizeable amount of weight without having to stick their fingers down their throat or take "diet pills", which were then simply over–glorified, medically manufactured, fancy meth by prescription. ... After 5 min passed the plastic container created a thin layer of ice surrounding the container. The ice cream in the cake cone was now dripping. I checked the ice cream for 5 min until the 25 min checkpoint, the only thing I notice was that the cake cone holding the ice cream was getting weaker. At 52 minutes the ice cream in the cake cone melted completely and turned into a liquid form. Now I just kept checking the remaining containers and the cream in the cardboard cup were melting faster than the other two. At the 62 minute mark, the ice cream in the cardboard cup started to turn into a foam and melted. Then I only had two containers to see, styrofoam and plastic. I handed off my ice cream to my dad, and stared down at my hands, glistening drops of water rolling softly down my cheeks and onto the gray, leather seats of the minivan. Dead. Gone. Suddenly, it was as if my memory went on replay. Memories of dressing up my dog and pushing him around in my strollers meant for dolls. The way he would never complain even if I handled him roughly. His deep, dark brown eyes framed by his rounded face covered in curly, white fur. I remembered playing with him in the grass a couple days after we had moved to Texas, relishing in the warmth of the sun, so unfamiliar for that season to someone who has lived in the North. Until then, I had thought that was something that happened if you were the one dying, and perhaps it is. But it does happen if someone you cares about becomes deceased. At least, it did for me. • 61. Banning Books In Schools Essay Thesis: Classic works of literature should not be amended or banned because the novels pertain to pivotal moments in history and help shape literary works today. Often, groups of people with similar interests will congregate with the intent of banning a book or ridding it of certain material. Not only does this strip classic literature of its raw delicacies, but it violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. In New York in 1949, classic works such as "Oliver Twist" and "The Merchant of Venice" were thought to generate hatred toward to Jews (Gould). While some may be offended by an author's point of view or ideals, removing potentially offensive language from books not only violates the right to freedom of speech, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strongly opposing censorship, Jenkins claims, "According to this perspective, children can only respond to books by imitating what they read. If, for example, a book tells a story about a child getting lost in a store and getting an ice cream cone when they are finally found, young readers will respond by heading for a store so that they can get lost and have ice cream cones too. Children really have much more complicated minds than that – they aren't just passive vessels. Books are really just one piece of their whole world" (University of Illinois). Jenkins comments on the impressionable youth and the impact that works of literature have on them to prove that the youth is more mature and sensible than certain institutions believe them to be. By removing questionable material from books, these institutions in which books are banned are removing all trust and confidence in readers. Hiding classic literature from children, again, sets boundaries on their knowledge and does not allow them to appreciate timeless works. Jenkins also says, "The act of banning a book is taking a public stance to intimidate potential readers. It's almost as if they're saying, 'Read this, and you will meet with our disapproval.' It's definitely more of a symbolic act, in the same way that flag burning is a symbolic act" (University of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After driving for an hour, we appear to be slowing down. The tour guide, Gilles, speaks over the intercom in his accented English describing the medieval structures of the town we are approaching. From a distance it appears to be a tourist haunt. Honfleur is a beautiful town that is different from anywhere else in the world. The pink bus parks in an area designated for larger vehicles. I exit the bus and immediately can smell salt in the air from the harbor. A breeze brushes my face and it is refreshing after the stale air on the bus. Screeching from sea gulls fills the air as does churning water. My friends, Sydney, Morgan, and Haylee, and I group together out of habit. We begin our walk toward the actual town which is nearby. Along the way flowers in pinks, purples, and yellows line the sidewalk we walk on, and a roped fence separates us from traffic. Traffic is busy this time of day as it is around four o'clock. Sun is shining into my eyes blinding me momentarily, but I continue walking across the road. Ahead of me our group has begun to circle Gilles. He speaks about the ancient town while we walk down an alleyway. We end up in a square between buildings. One of the houses has a garden with a variety of bright flowers in it. • 71. Descriptive Essay About A Sacred Place It goes without saying that everyone on earth has at least one sanctuary. For some, this place is high up in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a lack of attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a place as close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a library, or on a quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself have found my haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in North Carolina. It is the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn't too busy to relax and breathe in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is peaceful and serene, but still bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always uplifting, and flawless in its own way. My family used to visit there once a year for about a week in the summer. We would go camping and spend the majority of our time frequenting the beach. Back then I was tiny, but even now I know I would be overwhelmed by the vast space of the sky opened up over me, blue and deep in a reflection of the water below it. I would try with all my might to run through the grainy, hot sand scraping away at the bottoms of my burning feet onto cooler ground, where cool ocean water counteracted the sun's hot touch. I was more excited for this vacation than most others because my parents told my younger sister and me we could each bring a friend. We chose to bring our cousins Ellie and Adri. Neither of them had ever been on a plane before, in result the flight down was quite interesting. At one point my cousin Adri said to me as she looked down out the airplane window, "Woooah! Look you can see the stars." I afterwards had to remind her that we were flying through clouds, which mean the stars would be above us not below. "Adri, those are the city lights." I said back to her giggling. Over the rest of the plane ride we chatted and took a couple short naps. When our plane finally landed in Florida, we exited in to the airport to go retrieve our luggage. It was pleasant to step outside and be surrounded by warm air once again after coming from the chill of Kansas earlier that morning. Of course the hotel we were staying at wasn't right beside the airport, we rented a cab to take us there. Our cab driver acted as if she knew where she was going; although, we ended up getting lost for around fifteen minutes making the ride an hour total. Once we finally arrived, we were eager to reach our room, put on our swimsuits, and hit the beach! By the time we had settled in to the room and headed out to the beach it was about 2:00. It had been at least a year since I had last spoken with my father and I didn't quite know what to say. Trying to keep the crack out of my voice I told him of the impending divorce. "I love you," he said. "I never knew," I replied. I could hear the tears falling compassionately on the other end of the phone. "I'm sorry," I said. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just never knew you loved me." Tears prevented either of us from speaking. Then we shared a little more and hung up. A particular sadness circled but I didn't want to reflect on it at the time.
