6. The Problem
Raising a fund is hard to organize and difficult to execute on. Placement agents are
not open to the public and have red tape for the average user or existing fund
looking for a new fund or follow on fund. Currently, individuals search for a
placement agent and are directed to various generic placement agent websites
requiring them to make the first contact. Because of these barriers-to-entry, most
GPs go unfunded. Today, 9 out of 10 GPs go unfunded and over 50% of new funds
are undersubscribed. A significant contributor to this is due to lack of access to a
standardized fund application and networks of capital.
Palico and traditional placement agents. Most competitors focus exclusively on
traditional listings and provide a less-appealing user experience on their static
websites. Competitors ignore digital fund placement because it's a difficult market
to penetrate: dealflow is scattered. We believe that the lack of competition for
digital fund placement dealflow makes it the perfect opportunity.
