2. What is Family Sharing?
Last year Apple introduced “Family Sharing” as a new feature on Apple
Devices, which allows you to share all of your purchases eg.Apps, iBooks
and iTunes with up to 6 family members. This can be used on your
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with IOS 8, or your Mac with OS X Yosemite
and iTunes 12, or on your PC with iCloud for Windows 4.0.
The idea behind it is that there is one family member (the organiser)
who invites up to 6 family members to “family share” and once
accepted this family member agrees to pay for all purchases, including
their own and these will automatically be shared with the family
members. Meaning that purchases only need to be made once and
everyone will have access. Particularly good if you have lots of children
demanding new Apps! It will also give “the organiser” the option to
accept or decline children’s requests of purchases (if “Ask to buy” is
enabled), which is a great way to restrict child spending if need be and
it will also allow you to each share photos, a family calendar and to see
the location of your children (if the “share my location” feature is
turned on)
3. How to Activate Family
Sharing…
First you will need to choose an organiser of the family… this is
the person who will be inviting the family members to the group
and agreeing to all the purchases for those invited family
members (usually Mum or Dad if the children of the family are
young) The organiser must have a valid credit/debit card set up
with their Apple ID as they will be initiating all purchases from
the family members.
Once that has been decided, click to the next page for activation
steps..
4. Guide to Enabling Family
Sharing…
1. Go To settings then select iCloud
2. Select Set up Family Sharing and then Get Started..
3. At this point ensure you are already signed in with the correct Apple ID (the
selected “family organiser” Apple ID. If not, now is the time to change it) and
select continue
4. Once on the “share your location” screen you will be able to decide whether
you wish this to be “on” or “off”
5. You will then be able to add your required family members using their “Apple
ID” for each member. You will be able to select “Ask permission for purchases”
or “Don’t Ask”
6. You can then “send invitation” to each family member, who will then receive a
notification to accept or decline your request.
7. Once accepted on the invitees device you will be guided through similar steps
to which you will enable or disable. For example: if the family organiser opted
to “share location” the invitees will also need to enable “share my location”
too.
8. Repeat through the same steps for each invited family member.
5. Hopefully you now have that activated with ease, but you can
