Managing Student Work

2. Assigning classwork & homework
In kindergarten, classwork is more explicitly assigned
than in any other grade. After having direct
instructional time on the class rug, students will go
directly to their seat to complete their assignment, which
will be waiting for them on their table.

3. Collecting Completed Work
As students complete their seat-work, they will place
their finished work in the turn-in basket on their table.

4. Keeping Records & Providing
Feedback
Minimal feedback is written on actual assignments,
aside from being stamped for completion and
recognized through stickers showing a job well
done. More detailed feedback will be kept in their
student folder to be gone over with caregivers during
scheduled meetings and in phone conversations.

5. Late/Missing Assignments
Parents should put a note in their child’s homework
folder letting the teacher know that an assignment will be
late, though points will not be docked. Late assignments
should be put in the student’s homework folder as soon as it
is completed. If late or missing homework becomes a habit, a
conference will be called with the caregiver. If this is
necessary, I will let the child know ahead of time that I will
be contacting his/her caregiver.
f students are absent, a folder will be set aside for the
work to be completed upon his/her return. This folder will
be transferred to his/her homework folder when s/he comes
back. It may also be picked up by a relative at any
time. Caregivers will need to take extra time to sit down with
their child to complete the late work.

6. If academic concerns arise...
It is important to be proactive in your child's
education, both for you at home and for me at school. It
is especially important in kindergarten, as students
are building a foundation which they will use for the
rest of their lives. Most frequent contact will be through
written communication using your child's homework
folder. I may also call home or use email, depending on
caregiver preference, to communicate more detailed
information.

7. What to Do When Finished Early
With Work
Depending on the activity, students may continue to do
more practice, clean up, or read from our class library.
