Acts of the Apostles
Which individuals in Acts are portrayed as responsible for preaching the gospel to new audiences
(other than Jews)? Cite examples.
The Acts of the Apostles focuses mainly on Peter and Paul. The "Acts" recounts their missionary
work and offers into the nature of the spread of the early Christian community. During this period,
missionaries would travel alone or in small groups to a location, where they would take up work and
residency while sharing the news about Jesus. Once a community of believers was established, the
missionary would move on to a new location to spread the word of God elsewhere. Christian
missionaries expanded throughout North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Eastern Europe, as well as
eventually hub cities in Jerusalem and Rome, as well as Antioch, Alexandria, and Carthage. Jesus
taught the apostles about the kingdom of God. He appeared to the disciples for over 40 days. The
apostles were convinced that He was their savior and that they should deliver the news of salvation
(Act 1:3). Jesus told his disciples, "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8)
How is the genre of "Acts" similar to, but also different from, most modern historical writings?
The "Acts" represent at least four major genres, including the gospels, history, letter, and literature.

The Book Of Acts By The Bible
The Book of Acts is a book about the beginning of the first Christians and the growth of the Church.
Acts explains how Christianity began and also spread about. It explains how Jesus used some of the
apostles to teach through the Holy Spirit after ascending into Heaven. The writer of the Book of
Acts is the apostle Luke, who gives us insight into the different things the disciples, mainly Peter
and Paul, had went through during this time. Luke describes these instances but rarely indicates how
Christians today should respond. What would Christianity look like today if only the Book of Acts
was written in the New Testament?
The Early Church started with Peter, who told the people to repent and be baptized, only then would
they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. After 3,000 were baptized, the very first Church was started.
The early Church had a focus on the Bible and it's teachings, the stories the apostles shared,
breaking the bread, meal sharing, prayer, and fellowship. Today, Christians might only continue to
share stories that the apostles shared, be baptized, pray, and get to know members of their Church if
this was the only book written in the New Testament. Peter "gives Jesus" to people in need in the
Book of Acts, and this is a difference in what we don't see sometimes practiced in Churches today.
Christians learning to ask Jesus into their heart was a major milestone in the early Church. The Book
of Acts, as discussed by Michael Morrison, the author of

The Act 3 : 1-10
Acts 3:1–10
1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer–at three in the
afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called
Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he
saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did
John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get
something from them.
6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man

Peter and John had courage, even in the face of the coming persecution, they still evangelized well,
because they saw this miracle strengthened them a lot. They tasted the power of miracles. Even if
they were standing in the temple, where the same people whom they run away from were, they had
courage to preach before them. They ran away when Jesus was arrested and questioned. Peter was
changed, they had courage and also this person who was healed by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, stood with them together giving strong testimony of Jesus Christ who they were
proclaiming.
This miracle of healing the crippled from birth is very important. When the Apostles were in
difficulties, it gave them courage to overcome.
Acts 3:1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer–at three in the
afternoon
It was at three in the afternoon, the last prayer time of the Jews in the temple. the apostles had this
higher standard of faith, and they had a precious view of inheriting God 's precious history. They
didn 't abandon the temple, even if the people who killed their master were there. God 's history
could not stop, they had the view to inherit it. The apostles had the amazing consciousness of
history. They did not give up the temple of God. When we receive grace, on the position of new, it 's
easy to forget the efforts of the former workers, and abandon everything old, even good

Mrs : 325 Authorship, Purpose, And Literary Structure Of Acts
MRS: 325 Authorship, purpose, and literary structure of Acts Authorship The Book of Acts has not
precisely ascertain its writer. Luke 1:1–4 and Acts 1:1–3, can evidently show that the matching
writer authored possibly The Book of Luke and The Book of Acts. This history through the oldest
era of the church appears to have been that Luke, an associate of the apostle Paul, authored both the
Luke and Acts (Colossians 4:14; 2 Timothy 4:11). Luke's name was mentioned 3 times in the New
Testament. We could conclude that Luke would have been a Gentile. And naturally this fits what we
deduced previous: the writer was obviously a knowledgeable person who had been not an apostle
however, who had previously been affiliated with them. There are also other evidences that proves
the authorship pf The Book of Acts was written by the same person. Both of the Book of Luke and
Acts were written to the same person Theophilus. Both Luke and Acts showed strong similarity in
language and writing style. Luke and Acts showed mutual interest. (Fairchild) (Wallace) The Book
of Acts was likely written between 61 and 64 A.D. Paul's incarceration in in Rome for 2 years
concluded The Book of Acts. It has not indication of important events that talks about Paul's trial,
the fire in Rome in AD 64, execution of Peter and Paul around AD 67 and ruin of the temple around
AD 70. This simply clarify these unmentioned events from the book would presume that the Book

Gifts That Have Ceased : Part 1
Gifts that Have Ceased: Part 1

Today we will be studying three spiritual gifts that were given to the Apostles. These gifts have now
ceased. We see in 1 John 4:1 (King James Version), "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test
the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the
world." The Apostles received some gifts for a temporary period of time. I would be deceiving you
to say that this is not a divisive issue in Christendom. However, we must not be frightened away
from understanding this issue.
Paul said to the Thessalonians in 2 Thessalonians 2:9 (New American Standard), "That is, the one is
coming that is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders."
Jesus says in Matthew 7:22 (New American Standard)"Many will say to me on that day Lord, Lord,
did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform
miracles? And he will say I never knew you. " Matthew 24:24 (New American Standard) states, "For
false christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if
possible, even the elect."
In short, we need to be cognizant about counterfeit signs and wonders. This is not saying that God
does not perform signs and wonders for we know He does; however, we must not put our trust in
signs and wonders. Jesus stated in Matthew 12:39 (New International

The Transformation Of The Unity Of God In The Church
assignment. I happen to believe that God has raised up so many churches in the inner cities in order
to do what I have just articulated. We are already strategically positioned, just not in Kingdom
Covenant like the New Testament church. Of course–it took them some years to adjust from a
natural monarchial culture to a spiritual kingdom governed by the men and women who were
anointed with the Holy Spirit. But that's been 2000 years ago, what is our problem? This generation
must master the love that Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 13 and become that perfect man in
Ephesians 4:11, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of ... Show more content on

However, Paul and Peter were the only two dominant forces in the book of Acts functioning as
apostles. The gifts of the spirit however–weren't limited to the apostles as we can clearly see the
functioning of the gifts in those that started out in the Upper Room in Acts 2.
These gifts can be seen currently–especially since the Azusa Revival that the world witnessed in
California in 1907 and ended about 1915. That revival produced major spiritual institutions that
embraced the gift of the spirit–which was frowned upon and not widely known until this event.
William J. Seymour and Charles Harrison Mason were the more prominent leaders of that
movement for the first forty to fifty years who emerged as established apostles. They mentored
people of all races as their spiritual fathers–which have influenced over a billion people in the world
in one way of another.
The true spirit of an apostle is actually a seasoned elder in ministry who has the heart of God, and a
fatherly spirit that sees every human being as a potential child of God. They only seek to raise up
spiritual fruit (children) to further advance the kingdom of God on earth. If you read all of the
epistles of Paul in particular, you will see the heart of a loving father to his children. The gift of an
apostle is one who established order within the body and serve–not lord over. The top–down
controlling spirit that is prevalent among church leadership

The Canonical Structure Of The New Testament
When we look at the canonical structure of the New Testament we observe a collection of 27 books,
which accredits thirteen of them to the Apostle Paul. The writings of Luke, in particular the Acts of
the Apostles, can be used as a theological and historical basis, but it presents strong point and
restrictions for Pauline interpretation.
Primarily, Acts of the Apostles can be used for Pauline interpretation as a theological basis.
Discovering the main purpose for Luke to write the book of Acts, gives information about the world
that Luke traded with during the books composition, which gives us contextual indications regarding
the theological atmosphere of the Pauline letters. There are three basic goals that are useful for
Pauline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereby, Luke imply that the book of Acts is the extension of all that Jesus began to do and teach
but gives greater weight to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is prudent to affirm that the
clear purpose of the Gospel of Luke relates to the book of Acts also. Luke says, in Luke 1:4 that his
intention for writing is to confirm the legitimacy of Jesus' teachings. Knowing that the book of Acts
is the extension of the Gospel of Luke, therefore it implies that in writing the book of Acts, Luke's
intention is to confirm with certainty of the continuation of Jesus' teachings by the leading of the
Holy Spirit. Therefore, we can see how the book of Acts can be used as a theological source, as it
explicates how others were inquiring the liability of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Secondly, Acts 1:8 says that the Apostles will be Jesus' witnesses to the Jews first and then to the
Gentiles. Effectively, as the Gospel spread, the early church was formed with Christians Jew and
Christians Gentiles. The relations and visions of the Christians Jew and Christians Gentiles were
really opposed so it was one of the theological trials of Luke. Luke's goal is to conciliate the
Christians Jew with Christians Gentiles since the Jews believed that the covenant was for them only.
So, all the way through the book of Acts, there are parallels of events such as the reception of the
Holy Spirit by the Christians Jew (Luke, Acts 2) and then the Christians

Barnabas In The Book Of Acts
Barnabas is mentioned all throughout the book of Acts, especially in relation to Paul. They both
went on mission together, and suffered much together as well. Barnabas is introduced in Acts 4:36,
"Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a
Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the
apostle's feet" (ESV). He too became an apostle and did many things for the kingdom. Perhaps one
of his greatest actions, in my opinion, is described in Acts chapter 9. After Paul escapes from the
Jews he attempts to join the disciples, but they were afraid of him because of his past. That is when
Barnabas sticks up for him. "But Barnabas took him and

The Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts
Introduction
The book of Acts is particularly referred as the book of the Spirit. In fact, during the early days, it
was referred as The Acts. However, the title was not original since the book of Acts is the second
part of the writings of Luke. It is apparent that Luke went along way to point out the presence and
the manifestation of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles. Further, from the writings of Luke as
documented in the Bible, it is evident that he was a historian and a theologian. The book of Acts is a
prolongation of the ministry of salvation that was started by Jesus Christ (Shelton & James, 2000).
The book of Acts highlights and emphasizes on baptism through the Holy Spirit. Luke identifies that
it is through the Holy Spirit that God empowers and fills the people. The Holy Spirit played a vital
role on the Apostles lives in preaching and continuing the works that Jesus had started before his
death. The Holy Spirit is essential in lives of believers as he speaks to them, and guides them on
how to live a consecrated life, preach the word of God, and He manifests through speaking in
tongues.

guides the believers on how to lead a holy life, and preach the word of God. Currently, most

The Apostle Paul
The Apostle Paul
Introduction
This report paper will be on the life of Paul. We will look at many various different facts about this
influential man of God. We all know the apostle Paul was used of God in a miraculous way, but this
paper will take a behind the scenes look at some areas. I also endeavor to make this paper come
alive and reveal things about the apostle Paul that maybe have never been discovered by the average
reader and possibly forgotten by the veteran Christian.
The Author of Acts First, let me begin by saying that in Acts class we learned the importance of Acts

The Lord stops him in his tracks and on his path by shining a bright light around him. The Lord asks
him a question from Heaven," Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? Saul falls to the ground under
the power of the light and asks, "Who art thou, Lord?" and Jesus replies to him by saying," I am
Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Right away Saul falls
under intense conviction was converted and immediately asks the Lord what He would have him to
do. On a brief side note this is an incredible testimony to the conversion and character of Saul. He
would do everything one hundred percent and never give up until the Lord moved him and we see
that every time he goes through a difficult situation (which was quite often) in his ministry. Saul's
name was eventually changed to Paul later on (which is the Gentile name) and he is temporarily
blinded by the bright light. He fasts and goes without food or drink for three days. Scholars
speculate it was there that he agonized and struggled but returned victoriously. A few days later he
received his sight after Ananais put his hands on him and he was baptized.
Paul's Ministry
He writes and informs us in Galatians that after his salvation experience he spent some time alone in
the desert area of Arabia. After a period of some three years Paul is now charged up and ready to go.
Many people speculate as to what exactly Paul did for those three years. We

The Upper Room Discourse ( John 13-17 )
The Upper Room Discourse (John 13–17) marked the end of Jesus' three–year ministry and served
to be Jesus' farewell address to the beloved apostles. During Jesus' final moments with the apostles,
Jesus would proceed to institute a new blood covenant (Luke 22:20; Mark 14:24) and provide final
instructions and encouragement to the apostles before facing the sorrow, rejection, betrayal, and
death for which Jesus had come into this world (Houdmann, n.d.). Thus, the final moments between
Jesus and the apostles revealed countless theological truths that were demonstrated through word,
deed, admonishment, and prophecy (Douglas & Tenney, 2010).
Before revealing those truths, Jesus would have to settle a dispute (Luke 22:24) amongst the
apostles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus' departure also created anxiety and questions amongst the apostles (Pentecost, 1981). Thus, in
the narrative of John 13:36–14:31, Jesus lovingly admonishes the apostles with the command of
"Let not your heart be troubled" (Wiersbe, 2007). As a consequence of this command, Jesus
promised the apostles a place in heaven along with Christ's return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ
was the way to the Father (John 14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit
(John 14:16; Acts 13:52) who would be the apostle's teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus' absence
(Gromacki, 1978). Most profound is the fact that with Jesus' ascension into heaven, the apostles
would benefit in Jesus' absence (John 14:9) with greater spiritual power (Pentecost, 1981).
Additionally, Jesus also revealed the divine essence of the Godhead (John 14:9) while further
defining the true essence of Christianity, "Ye in me, I in you" (Gromacki, 1978).
As Jesus continued instructing the apostles in John 15:1–16:4, attention was turned to the apostle's
present condition and how the "great commission" could be fulfilled (Pentecost, 1981). In the
metaphor of the vine and branches (John 15:5), Christ

People started to ask Peter and the other apostles what shall we do and Peter replied you must repent
and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ asking for forgiveness of your sins. As Peter concluded
addressing the crowd with proof that Jesus is the Messiah the savior whom God promises to save
Jews from the adversity, 3,000 people where then baptized into the Christian community. As each
day went on the people continued to be taught and praising God with joy and amazement of the

How Did Paul Become An Apostle
Paul did not become an apostle in the same manner as did the rest of the apostles. He is first
encountered as Saul at the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7. Acts 8:3 says, "But Saul began ravaging the
church, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison."
Acts 9, however, tells of his dramatic conversion after seeing Jesus while on the road to Damascus.
In Acts 9:15, the Lord said to Ananias regarding Saul, "He is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear
My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel." Acts 22:14–15 records that the Lord,
speaking through Ananias said to Paul, "The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will,

In 1 Corinthians 15:9 he wrote, "For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an
apostle, because I persecuted the church of God." He went on to express his thankfulness in v. 10:
"For by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored
even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me." He further exhibits his humility
in 2 Corinthians 3:5: "Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from
ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.

Peter refers to Paul as "our beloved brother." He states that Paul wrote "according to the wisdom

Recconstructionalism: The Letters Of Paul The Apostle
The letters of Paul are among the earliest Christian documents. Paul the apostle is believed to have
written such compositions to various Christian churches and communities. The significance of such
letters is therefore tremendous as they provide a first hand account into the beliefs and thoughts of
Paul. In contrast, the author of Luke is ascribed authorship to Acts. Acts of the Apostles follows
early Christianity as it was spread throughout the Roman Empire. Being that Acts exists as a second
hand account, (pertaining to existent discrepancies evident between the Pauline epistles and Acts) it
is deemed to be comparably less trustworthy
). Thus, as explained by scholar John Knox, the need for the tactic of reconstructionism was most
likely employed by the author of Acts
). The notion of recconstructionism deals with the piecing together of fragments known regarding
the life of Paul the apostle

author of Acts would have required a "good deal of imagination" to form a "coherent and unified"

For example, Paul's letters place emphasis upon the idea of "justification by faith" (Romans 3:21–8;

Paul's message in Acts is comparably more aligned with the Jewish mission of Peter) (Acts 2, 1–7;
Acts 13, 1–5). Pertaining to such discrepancies it is best to employ Knox's tactics of critical
examination and prioritization of the letters over that of Acts. The justification for such is that a first

2015 Introduction The book of Acts is a captivating, theological narrative of the early church's
development from the resurrection of Christ through the first three decades of the Church as the
gospel spread throughout the ancient Mediterranean world until it reached Rome. Addressed to
Theophilus, the same patron as that of the Gospel of Luke, Acts is believed to have been written as a
sequel to the gospel. The book of Acts serves as a bridge between the life of Christ presented in the
gospels with the life of the early church as revealed through the remaining New Testament writings.

Analysis Of Acts ' Portrayal Of Receiving The Holy Spirit
An Analysis of Acts' Portrayal of Receiving the Holy Spirit
Introduction
Christians have consistently struggled with defining the nature of the Triune God: Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. The Old Testament clearly spoke of the majesty and sovereignty of the Father. The Son
was foretold in the Old Testament and manifested in the incarnation of Jesus, who walked among
mankind and gave men direction by His words. Jesus described that He would send the Holy Spirit
to help and minister to believers after Jesus went to be with the Father in heaven. The Holy Spirit
showed evidence of His coming in the testimony of the writer of Acts. Since that time, theologians
have debated the work that the Holy Spirit continues to conduct and certain actions that some
believe to have been discontinued. This paper will consider how the author of Acts' described the
"receiving of the Holy Spirit" which the apostles and other believers experienced and how other
theologians have interpreted the descriptions provided in the book of Acts.
The Holy Spirit's Action of Coming to the Apostles in Acts
Jesus spoke to His disciples after His resurrection and shared that He would leave them, but that the
Father would send what He had promised (Luke 24:49). The author of the book of Luke, which was
written by the same person who wrote the books of Acts, continues this conversation in Acts 1:4–8.
Jesus described that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). He also said that they

The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance Essay
The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance The Acts of the Apostles is the geographical and
political story of the development of the Christian Church under the impulse of the Holy Spirit.
Although many of us may think that the issues of sectarianism are new, the Acts of the Apostles
shows clearly religious intolerance over two thousand years ago. In this respect, it is comparable and
informative for moral life in the twenty–first century. One of the most influential characters in Acts,
who is closely linked to the issues of sectarianism, is Peter. However, before I look at his role, the
word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is obvious that these actions are the most potent expressions of the system, but alongside this type
of bold action is an array of smaller, perhaps everyday or semi – conscious attitudes, actions and
beliefs, which contribute subtly to keeping the sectarianism system in place.
'Drinking in Roman Catholic bars can seriously damage your health – watch where you drink,
because I do' (A discussion document, cards can be bought on the Shankill road)
Sectarianism always involves religion. The involvement may be an historic one that has long been
forgotten, but it is this origin that distinguishes it from purely political discrimination. It is
impossible to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact
role? What persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself
perpetrate? And most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? Is he an
example which we can portray with the aspects of sectarianism in the modern world today?
Peter is an example of somebody we can learn from today, he shows the human abilities that we our
self depict, for example we all have beliefs as well as Peter did and in some instances we can act
upon these in an unethical way, Peter can be used as an example of someone we can look up to and
admire.

Analysis of "Acts of Apostle"
Chapter one of "The Acts of Apostles" starts off as describing how Jesus came down from the clouds
and spoke to the people of Jerusalem. Jesus gave the apostles specific commandments to follow. The
apostles questioned him right before he goes back into heaven, asking if he was going to restore the

The Apostles and the Early Church
The Apostles and the Early Church

In the Gospel of Matthew the term "apostles" is only used when introducing the list of twelve
apostles commissioned to follow Christ. "Now the names of the twelve Apostles are these: the first,
Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and
Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed
him" (Matthew 10:1–4). An apostle is a person sent to accomplish a mission. An apostle represents

Gigot). The change of Simon's name by Jesus was significant. As in the case of Abram, Sarai and
Jacob, the change of destiny is indicated by the change of name. This name Cephas is taken from the
Aramaic vernacular and corresponds to the Greek Peter, Petros, which means a piece of rock– a
mass of rock detached from the living rock (T. Butler). It is a term which becomes a natural emblem
of firmness and stability. It may be hard for us to see the fitness of such a name for a man apparently
so unstable; but the fitness was perceived by Christ. Peter wavered often, even while under his
Master's eye, and at least once afterward, but he continually became more and more like the "rock"
that Christ wanted him to be and he was indeed a pillar of the church (W.B. Hill).
We observe that all the time Christ was with the Twelve, Peter was a leader among them.
Occasionally, Christ would select certain ones for special responsibilities; for example: Peter, James
and John to witness the raising of Jarius' daughter, the transfiguration, and the agony in the garden
(G. Stokes). Now, why were these particular men selected on these occasions to be the recipients of
special privileges and the bearers of the attendant responsibilities? Certainly not because they
possessed greater authority than the other apostles, but because here

The Early Church Essay
Over the past years of my life I have seen many changes, some for the good and others not as good.
Change can be demanding and also crucial. The early believers would encounter this. One can see
that significant change happened, when reading through the gospels and the book of acts it is
obvious to the reader that the believers who followed Jesus would never be the same again.
They had enjoyed a time of fellowship with Jesus and teaching from Him. But He was now
preparing them to understand that he was going to leave them. This was one of the factors that were
going to turn these believers world upside down and bring and opportunity to turn the world upside

Jesus tells the church before his ascension that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit come
upon them and the power of the Holy Spirit was going to bring them from Jerusalem to the ends of
the earth they would be a witness in all the earth. We are told in this scripture that they would
receive power; Jesus told them that they were going to receive power, there is no reason for these
believers to not except his word for everything He had said thus so far had come to pass. They

The Apostle, Paul, in the Book of Acts
The genre of the book of Acts chapter 19:23–41 is written in the narrative form, and is set in a time
when the people of Ephesus worshipped a goddess who they said fell from heaven. During this time
period the apostle Paul began his travels preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul having passed
through the upper regions, came to Ephesus and upon making contact with some disciples he asked
them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. They answered him saying they did
not know of the Holy Spirit. He also was concerned if they had been baptized in Jesus name, they
answered no, but they had only received John's baptism. Upon hearing this Paul explained to the
people of Ephesus that John's baptism was a baptism of repentance, but they should be baptized in
the name of the one who came after John, Jesus Christ. Therefore when they heard this they were
baptized in Jesus name, and after Paul laid his hands on them they were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in tongues and prophesy. Now God worked unusual miracles through Paul, so
that even when handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, the diseases left
them and the evil spirits went out of them. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon
themselves to try to perform a exorcism in the name of Jesus by commanding that a evil spirit leave
a man, in the name of Jesus who Paul preached, but it didn't work because they had no relationship
with Jesus. Therefore the

For me, the course, MRS 540 The Church to 120 C.E had helped me understand the early parts of

Compassion that can found within his Gospel Message. As a student of History, this course had For

a martyr 's death for Peter (Jn. 21:18,19). It is thought that Paul was beheaded right outside Rome in
68 A.D. (II Tim. 4: 6–8,16–18). John supposedly lived and labored in Ephesus during his later years,
being the only apostle allowed to die a natural death. The lives, ministries, and deaths of the rest of
the apostles are far more unknown. These realities do not consider the enormous social differences
are often existing in non–Jewish congregations. A person who sold goods only the wealthy bought

The Book of Acts
Brief Overview of The Book of Acts
Luke wrote the Acts of the Apostles as a follow–up to his Gospel account of the life of Christ. The
Acts should be seen as a description of the ongoing work of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy
Spirit through His apostles and followers. Luke's aim is to give an historical record of the early
church from its birth in Jerusalem to how it reached around the world with the Gospel. Through this
work Luke reveals that everything that was said previously about Jesus Christ was absolute truth.
The book of Acts can be split into two main parts: 1. The birth of the Church 2. The missionary
journeys of the apostles The book begins with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the waiting
disciple (120) in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When they prayed God moved in a mighty way; saving the lost, healing the sick, raising the dead,
anointing with the Spirit, and even in an earthquake. God granted their requests not because of their
words but because they prayed from the heart. They believed that their God was able. The key verse
on prayer is "They continued steadfast ... in prayers" (Acts 2:42).
2) Courage
Boldness or courage does not come as a matter of course but come as we rely upon the Lord who
strengthens us to stand firm "And now, Lord, behold their threatening: and grant unto thy servants,
that with all boldness they may speak Thy word" (4:29). God will give us the power to say exactly
the right thing in threatening situations "We ought to obey God rather than men" (5:29), and then to
go on doing what He has called us to (5:40–42). Stephen is the prominent example in Acts of
courage in the face of adversity (6:127:60). Through his witness we understand that God can put a
holy boldness in our lives regardless of personal weakness or timidity. God is able to make us bold
regardless of what may come against us. In the book of Acts we see several occasions when
believers had courage from the Lord in difficult circumstances; (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) Peter before
the Jewish Council (4:5, 5:29) Stephen before the Jewish Council (6:12–7:60), Paul before Felix,

Questions On The Motives Of Ministry
Section 3 The Motives of Ministry Lesson 1: Your Relationship with Jesus Christ Maintaining your
relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing you should hold onto. If you lose that, then
it is guaranteed that you will not be an effective minister. There is no way that you can operate under
the "agape" love and not know Jesus Christ for yourself. How can one explain the character of Jesus
Christ if you have not discovered them for yourself? Remain true to who God has called you to be.
Ministry does not begin with a love for people. It begins with a love for God and then that love
overflows to the children of God. If we minister to God's people only out of a humanistic love for
people we will be people–pleasers rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have ever been to a restaurant where they have a front cashier, like McDonalds or Wendy's, it
is the job of that front cashier to serve the customers as they enter into the building. If you are new
and just walk in from the streets, you will not be able to stand behind the counter and serve without
knowing the policy or the expectations from that company. For example, when going to Chick–Fila,
for a while they were the only restaurant that will end their services with the statement, "it was a
pleasure serving you or it was my pleasure". After leaving, I felt that I was not a burden to them or
that they enjoyed their job. So every time I go, I automatically expect to hear that phrase at the end.
Now, what if someone new walked in not knowing that was something they tell their customers.
They could change the entire atmosphere on how they serve and it would be noticed. Training,
workshops, meetings allow employees to stay up to date with the owner's policy. It allows them to
remain in the "vision" of the company. The same with you as a minister or preacher, you have to
maintain your relationship with God through prayer, fasting, studying and more in order to remain
confident that you are exactly where God wants you to be. Not only that, but to evaluate if you are
becoming more of a "people–pleaser" or are you still a "God–pleaser". Don't feel bad if that is the
case, because we have all slipped into that direction unconsciously, not

The Acts Of The Apostles
"The Acts of the Apostles" is the name given to the second part of a two–volume work traditionally
identified as having been written by Luke, a companion of the Apostle Paul." "Luke presumably a

"Wait" in this context connotes an appointed time was coming. "They should not depart Jerusalem"
connotes the appointed place for the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. Should anyone of them had gone
against his command to stay in Jerusalem, that person would have missed the mighty move of God.
They were to begin their witness about the Lord in Jerusalem and expand their territory. One of the
wonders and signs Jesus said he would show was manifested in the people being able to hear one
another in their own native tongue. As Peter spoke to them, he pointed out that Jesus was sitting at
the right hand of God. And God the Father had filled Jesus with the Holy Ghost and now Jesus was
shedding forth the Holy Ghost upon them. This made them all the more glad. They were also
amazed and marveled and were glad about the national racial barrier being broken down through the
power of Holy Spirit. People from every nation was there and on one accord. This answered the
declaration God made: "It shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come,
and see my glory" (Is 66:18). And according to (2:1) at least three thousand were glad enough to be
baptized in to the believers' fellowship. And as Joel the prophet had spoken, they began to prophesy
even to each other. Squires wrote: "For Luke, the foreign languages which were spoken begin to

Paul's Letter Of First Thessalonians
INTRODUCTION
Paul's letter of First Thessalonians gives us a window into the early communities that followed Jesus
Christ. It may surprise a modern reader to find out that Paul does not discuss concepts that are
familiar in churches today, such as faith and freedom from the law. Instead, he focuses on the end–
times (1 Thess. 1:10), that is, the idea that the Lord would be returning to earth soon. In 1 Thess.
5:1–11, the passage that is my focus for this paper, Paul instructs the Thessalonian congregation
about the "day of the Lord," answering the general question of concern to the believers of his time:
what will happen when Jesus returns?

their concerns. Yet, the apostle merely repeats what Jesus says (Acts 1:7). The apostle reassures the
church that there is no need to be concerned or anxious about the time or the seasons, for no one
knows the time or the season. Other passages in the New Testament confirm Paul's point. "It is not
for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority" (Acts 1:7).
According to Acts 1:7, it is evident that the "times and seasons" were a timetable that only God

The Presence Of Freedom In The Book Of Acts
The Presence of Freedom in the Book of Acts Freedom is a reoccurring theme in many works of
literature, including The Bible. Human freedom is typically categorized one of two ways, positive
and negative freedom. Positive freedom is the removal of something negative in one's life, while
negative freedom restricts and individual from a specific want or need, yet typically is believed to
benefit them. Throughout the book of Acts, negative freedom is constantly present for man.
Controlled by one supreme being, humans have no say in some actions they take, the control over
the status of their life (alive or deceased), or their mental and physical well–beings. While some
believers of The Bible believe that freedom comes from its writings and from following Christ, a
closer reading of the text as a narrative, reveals that the characters' present within lack freedom in
various forms because of their religious followings. For instance, one reoccurring theme in Acts are
the Apostles acting as witnesses; however, to understand the level of freedom that these men
experience in their decision to preach and teach will come from analyzing ... Show more content on

The Bible was not a text written by God himself, but his followers, and it is important to consider
that the followers of God themselves are the ones who state that God was fearsome. Despite their

themselves that they are afraid of him. While man still respects God, and decides on what is

Christians Should Study Greek Philosophy
Throughout the history of Christianity, there have been many different ideas on how a Christian
should interact with the world in which they lived. From the biblical writings of The Gospel
according to Matthew, and The Acts of the Apostles, to the non–biblical writings of On Philosophy,
and The Prescription Against Heretics, the ideas of Christianity were brought together. The two
non–biblical documents highlight the arguments of whether or not Christians should study Greek
philosophy. The books from The Bible showed that Christian beliefs focused on how one should
primarily seek their ultimate reward or satisfaction in the Kingdom of God (spiritual), rather than in
the here and now (temporal). Christianity, as it began, was a faith that emphasized the importance of
acting charitable towards the less fortunate, while understanding that it was ones duty to worship
God and spread that love for Him to those who didn't believe. In the Gospel According to Matthew,
Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." When Jesus said this, he
showed how the Kingdom of Heaven was welcomed for anybody, not only those who were more
fortunate than others. Jesus then went on to explain how those who were humble and those who
showed righteousness would enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus also told the people how they
should spread his word everywhere and teach those to examine all the things He commanded them.

Should Gentiles Be Allowed To Be Saved Without Being...
The main issue of the Council of Jerusalem was whether or not you could be accepted as a member
of God's church and be saved without being circumcised. There were many questions and debates on
where they should draw the line. One side of the debate was that salvation was being offered to
everyone regardless of heritage or the keeping of the "customs of Moses". Paul conveyed the great
signs and wonders that had been done among the Gentiles (English Standard Version, Acts 15:12–

Leadership Styles : Jesus As A Servant Leader
Leadership Styles Jesus as a Servant Leader Leadership from a Christian perspective focus on
theological expositional, worship facilitation and communication skills. Many leadership styles pass
over the one role model Jesus Christ, who should be the main focus of any leadership style. The
focus of growth on each individual and their achievements and full potential distinguishes servant
leadership from all other leadership styles. The service of the followers is the main concern of the
servant leader. Jesus submitted himself under the will of God for sacrificial service. Jesus made the
choice to serve others freely by doing so. Jesus was God's son and the most powerful leader than

As a voluntary servant one must be willing to submit themselves beyond the interest of themselves
and also the interest of others. These are individuals that out of love are willing to serve the needs of
others before their own needs. Applying Jesus as a role model for Christian leaders' Christian
servant leaders are Christ centered, committed to serve, accept feedback and are consistently
developing. Servant Christian leaders are servants in all things and in their relationship with God. As
followers of Jesus Christ we are all called to serve as one of God's servant in every aspect of our
lives. The bible teaches that one should serve in accordance with the higher purpose of serving God
also. Servant Christian leaders are leaders that are grown and led by the Holy Spirit. Without a heart
to serve and loving others genuinely it is impossible to become a servant leader of Christ.
Leadership Styles Used By the Apostles in the Early Church Jesus gathered many disciples around
himself some of whom he also called apostles. These individual was sent out to preach and teach the

work goes a long way in bringing out the presence of the Holy Spirit manifesting through the
Apostles; Luke was both a theologian and a historian as per his writings documented in the holy

The book of Acts brings out Paul as one of the most phenomenal apostles in the times post the death
of Jesus. The documentation of Paul's gospel begins with a mission by the leaders of the Antioch
church who were instructed by the Holy Spirit to separate Barnabas and Saul from the Mission they
were being sent on. During that period Saul was involved in the persecution and killing of believers
of Christ and the instruction was a difficult trivia to the Christians due to the History associated with
Saul. The conversion of Saul from a persecutor of Christians to an apostle spreading the Gospel is
also a manifestation of the Holy Spirit (Keener & Craig,

definition of the word primitive in Joseph Smith's day was "Pertaining to the beginning or origin;

With that said, the word Apostle comes from the word apostolos which means "one who is sent"
(Bro. Sharp New Testament class) or "to send forth" (TDNT pg. 67) note the reference to the
function within the title of the word Apostle. In Acts 1:15–26, with the call of Matthias, it
demonstrates that twelve was the number of apostles set, to govern the church. This also indicates
that these twelve apostles held an authoritative position in Christ's church. The function of the
twelve apostles is given in Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come
upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Thus we see that the primary responsibility of the apostles
was to be witnesses of Christ wherever they were sent, or wherever they were. In the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints, there are twelve apostles, who serve as "special witnesses of the
name of Christ in all the world" (D&C

Elements Of Acts Of The Apostles

  • 1. Elements Of Acts Of The Apostles Hayford 4 Ryan Hayford Mr. Stanczyk Sophomore Theology Honors 09 September 2017 Acts of the Apostles Which individuals in Acts are portrayed as responsible for preaching the gospel to new audiences (other than Jews)? Cite examples. The Acts of the Apostles focuses mainly on Peter and Paul. The "Acts" recounts their missionary work and offers into the nature of the spread of the early Christian community. During this period, missionaries would travel alone or in small groups to a location, where they would take up work and residency while sharing the news about Jesus. Once a community of believers was established, the missionary would move on to a new location to spread the word of God elsewhere. Christian missionaries expanded throughout North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Eastern Europe, as well as eventually hub cities in Jerusalem and Rome, as well as Antioch, Alexandria, and Carthage. Jesus taught the apostles about the kingdom of God. He appeared to the disciples for over 40 days. The apostles were convinced that He was their savior and that they should deliver the news of salvation (Act 1:3). Jesus told his disciples, "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8) How is the genre of "Acts" similar to, but also different from, most modern historical writings? The "Acts" represent at least four major genres, including the gospels, history, letter, and literature. The Acts of the Apostles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Book Of Acts By The Bible The Book of Acts is a book about the beginning of the first Christians and the growth of the Church. Acts explains how Christianity began and also spread about. It explains how Jesus used some of the apostles to teach through the Holy Spirit after ascending into Heaven. The writer of the Book of Acts is the apostle Luke, who gives us insight into the different things the disciples, mainly Peter and Paul, had went through during this time. Luke describes these instances but rarely indicates how Christians today should respond. What would Christianity look like today if only the Book of Acts was written in the New Testament? The Early Church started with Peter, who told the people to repent and be baptized, only then would they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. After 3,000 were baptized, the very first Church was started. The early Church had a focus on the Bible and it's teachings, the stories the apostles shared, breaking the bread, meal sharing, prayer, and fellowship. Today, Christians might only continue to share stories that the apostles shared, be baptized, pray, and get to know members of their Church if this was the only book written in the New Testament. Peter "gives Jesus" to people in need in the Book of Acts, and this is a difference in what we don't see sometimes practiced in Churches today. Christians learning to ask Jesus into their heart was a major milestone in the early Church. The Book of Acts, as discussed by Michael Morrison, the author of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Act 3 : 1-10 Acts 3:1–10 1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer–at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man 's feet and ankles became strong. 8 He ... They tasted the power of miracles. Even if they were standing in the temple, where the same people whom they run away from were, they had courage to preach before them. They ran away when Jesus was arrested and questioned. Peter was changed, they had courage and also this person who was healed by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stood with them together giving strong testimony of Jesus Christ who they were proclaiming. This miracle of healing the crippled from birth is very important. When the Apostles were in difficulties, it gave them courage to overcome. Acts 3:1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer–at three in the afternoon It was at three in the afternoon, the last prayer time of the Jews in the temple. the apostles had this higher standard of faith, and they had a precious view of inheriting God 's precious history. They didn 't abandon the temple, even if the people who killed their master were there. God 's history could not stop, they had the view to inherit it. The apostles had the amazing consciousness of history. They did not give up the temple of God. • 7. Mrs : 325 Authorship, Purpose, And Literary Structure Of Acts MRS: 325 Authorship, purpose, and literary structure of Acts Authorship The Book of Acts has not precisely ascertain its writer. Luke 1:1–4 and Acts 1:1–3, can evidently show that the matching writer authored possibly The Book of Luke and The Book of Acts. This history through the oldest era of the church appears to have been that Luke, an associate of the apostle Paul, authored both the Luke and Acts (Colossians 4:14; 2 Timothy 4:11). Luke's name was mentioned 3 times in the New Testament. We could conclude that Luke would have been a Gentile. And naturally this fits what we deduced previous: the writer was obviously a knowledgeable person who had been not an apostle however, who had previously been affiliated with them. There are also other evidences that proves the authorship pf The Book of Acts was written by the same person. Both of the Book of Luke and Acts were written to the same person Theophilus. Both Luke and Acts showed strong similarity in language and writing style. Luke and Acts showed mutual interest. (Fairchild) (Wallace) The Book of Acts was likely written between 61 and 64 A.D. Paul's incarceration in in Rome for 2 years concluded The Book of Acts. It has not indication of important events that talks about Paul's trial, the fire in Rome in AD 64, execution of Peter and Paul around AD 67 and ruin of the temple around AD 70. This simply clarify these unmentioned events from the book would presume that the Book of Acts was written before those events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Gifts That Have Ceased : Part 1 Gifts that Have Ceased: Part 1 HOMI 860–397 LUO Jonathan Behler L23929745 Today we will be studying three spiritual gifts that were given to the Apostles. These gifts have now ceased. We see in 1 John 4:1 (King James Version), "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." The Apostles received some gifts for a temporary period of time. I would be deceiving you to say that this is not a divisive issue in Christendom. However, we must not be frightened away from understanding this issue. Paul said to the Thessalonians in 2 Thessalonians 2:9 (New American Standard), "That is, the one is coming that is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders." Jesus says in Matthew 7:22 (New American Standard)"Many will say to me on that day Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform miracles? And he will say I never knew you. " Matthew 24:24 (New American Standard) states, "For false christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect." In short, we need to be cognizant about counterfeit signs and wonders. This is not saying that God does not perform signs and wonders for we know He does; however, we must not put our trust in signs and wonders. Jesus stated in Matthew 12:39 (New International ... • 11. The Transformation Of The Unity Of God In The Church assignment. I happen to believe that God has raised up so many churches in the inner cities in order to do what I have just articulated. We are already strategically positioned, just not in Kingdom Covenant like the New Testament church. Of course–it took them some years to adjust from a natural monarchial culture to a spiritual kingdom governed by the men and women who were anointed with the Holy Spirit. But that's been 2000 years ago, what is our problem? This generation must master the love that Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 13 and become that perfect man in Ephesians 4:11, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Paul and Peter were the only two dominant forces in the book of Acts functioning as apostles. The gifts of the spirit however–weren't limited to the apostles as we can clearly see the functioning of the gifts in those that started out in the Upper Room in Acts 2. These gifts can be seen currently–especially since the Azusa Revival that the world witnessed in California in 1907 and ended about 1915. That revival produced major spiritual institutions that embraced the gift of the spirit–which was frowned upon and not widely known until this event. William J. Seymour and Charles Harrison Mason were the more prominent leaders of that movement for the first forty to fifty years who emerged as established apostles. They mentored people of all races as their spiritual fathers–which have influenced over a billion people in the world in one way of another. The true spirit of an apostle is actually a seasoned elder in ministry who has the heart of God, and a fatherly spirit that sees every human being as a potential child of God. They only seek to raise up spiritual fruit (children) to further advance the kingdom of God on earth. If you read all of the epistles of Paul in particular, you will see the heart of a loving father to his children. The gift of an apostle is one who established order within the body and serve–not lord over. The top–down controlling spirit that is prevalent among church leadership ... • 13. The Canonical Structure Of The New Testament When we look at the canonical structure of the New Testament we observe a collection of 27 books, which accredits thirteen of them to the Apostle Paul. The writings of Luke, in particular the Acts of the Apostles, can be used as a theological and historical basis, but it presents strong point and restrictions for Pauline interpretation. Primarily, Acts of the Apostles can be used for Pauline interpretation as a theological basis. Discovering the main purpose for Luke to write the book of Acts, gives information about the world that Luke traded with during the books composition, which gives us contextual indications regarding the theological atmosphere of the Pauline letters. There are three basic goals that are useful for Pauline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thereby, Luke imply that the book of Acts is the extension of all that Jesus began to do and teach but gives greater weight to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is prudent to affirm that the clear purpose of the Gospel of Luke relates to the book of Acts also. Luke says, in Luke 1:4 that his intention for writing is to confirm the legitimacy of Jesus' teachings. Knowing that the book of Acts is the extension of the Gospel of Luke, therefore it implies that in writing the book of Acts, Luke's intention is to confirm with certainty of the continuation of Jesus' teachings by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we can see how the book of Acts can be used as a theological source, as it explicates how others were inquiring the liability of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Secondly, Acts 1:8 says that the Apostles will be Jesus' witnesses to the Jews first and then to the Gentiles. Effectively, as the Gospel spread, the early church was formed with Christians Jew and Christians Gentiles. The relations and visions of the Christians Jew and Christians Gentiles were really opposed so it was one of the theological trials of Luke. Luke's goal is to conciliate the Christians Jew with Christians Gentiles since the Jews believed that the covenant was for them only. So, all the way through the book of Acts, there are parallels of events such as the reception of the Holy Spirit by the Christians Jew (Luke, Acts 2) and then the Christians ... Barnabas is introduced in Acts 4:36, "Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostle's feet" (ESV). He too became an apostle and did many things for the kingdom. Perhaps one of his greatest actions, in my opinion, is described in Acts chapter 9. After Paul escapes from the Jews he attempts to join the disciples, but they were afraid of him because of his past. That is when Barnabas sticks up for him. "But Barnabas took him and ... • 17. Book Of Acts Research Paper The Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts Name DeAnna Martin The Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts Introduction The book of Acts is particularly referred as the book of the Spirit. In fact, during the early days, it was referred as The Acts. However, the title was not original since the book of Acts is the second part of the writings of Luke. It is apparent that Luke went along way to point out the presence and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles. Further, from the writings of Luke as documented in the Bible, it is evident that he was a historian and a theologian. The book of Acts is a prolongation of the ministry of salvation that was started by Jesus Christ (Shelton & James, 2000). The book of Acts highlights and emphasizes on baptism through the Holy Spirit. Luke identifies that it is through the Holy Spirit that God empowers and fills the people. The Holy Spirit played a vital role on the Apostles lives in preaching and continuing the works that Jesus had started before his death. The Holy Spirit is essential in lives of believers as he speaks to them, and guides them on how to live a consecrated life, preach the word of God, and He manifests through speaking in tongues. The Lord stops him in his tracks and on his path by shining a bright light around him. The Lord asks him a question from Heaven," Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? Saul falls to the ground under the power of the light and asks, "Who art thou, Lord?" and Jesus replies to him by saying," I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Right away Saul falls under intense conviction was converted and immediately asks the Lord what He would have him to do. On a brief side note this is an incredible testimony to the conversion and character of Saul. He would do everything one hundred percent and never give up until the Lord moved him and we see that every time he goes through a difficult situation (which was quite often) in his ministry. Saul's name was eventually changed to Paul later on (which is the Gentile name) and he is temporarily blinded by the bright light. He fasts and goes without food or drink for three days. Scholars speculate it was there that he agonized and struggled but returned victoriously. A few days later he received his sight after Ananais put his hands on him and he was baptized. Paul's Ministry He writes and informs us in Galatians that after his salvation experience he spent some time alone in the desert area of Arabia. • 21. The Upper Room Discourse ( John 13-17 ) The Upper Room Discourse (John 13–17) marked the end of Jesus' three–year ministry and served to be Jesus' farewell address to the beloved apostles. During Jesus' final moments with the apostles, Jesus would proceed to institute a new blood covenant (Luke 22:20; Mark 14:24) and provide final instructions and encouragement to the apostles before facing the sorrow, rejection, betrayal, and death for which Jesus had come into this world (Houdmann, n.d.). Thus, the final moments between Jesus and the apostles revealed countless theological truths that were demonstrated through word, deed, admonishment, and prophecy (Douglas & Tenney, 2010). Before revealing those truths, Jesus would have to settle a dispute (Luke 22:24) amongst the apostles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus' departure also created anxiety and questions amongst the apostles (Pentecost, 1981). Thus, in the narrative of John 13:36–14:31, Jesus lovingly admonishes the apostles with the command of "Let not your heart be troubled" (Wiersbe, 2007). As a consequence of this command, Jesus promised the apostles a place in heaven along with Christ's return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ was the way to the Father (John 14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16; Acts 13:52) who would be the apostle's teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus' absence (Gromacki, 1978). Most profound is the fact that with Jesus' ascension into heaven, the apostles would benefit in Jesus' absence (John 14:9) with greater spiritual power (Pentecost, 1981). Additionally, Jesus also revealed the divine essence of the Godhead (John 14:9) while further defining the true essence of Christianity, "Ye in me, I in you" (Gromacki, 1978). As Jesus continued instructing the apostles in John 15:1–16:4, attention was turned to the apostle's present condition and how the "great commission" could be fulfilled (Pentecost, 1981). Acts 8:3 says, "But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison." • 29. Recconstructionalism: The Letters Of Paul The Apostle The letters of Paul are among the earliest Christian documents. Paul the apostle is believed to have written such compositions to various Christian churches and communities. The significance of such letters is therefore tremendous as they provide a first hand account into the beliefs and thoughts of Paul. In contrast, the author of Luke is ascribed authorship to Acts. Acts of the Apostles follows early Christianity as it was spread throughout the Roman Empire. Being that Acts exists as a second hand account, (pertaining to existent discrepancies evident between the Pauline epistles and Acts) it is deemed to be comparably less trustworthy ). Thus, as explained by scholar John Knox, the need for the tactic of reconstructionism was most likely employed by the author of Acts ). The notion of recconstructionism deals with the piecing together of fragments known regarding the life of Paul the apostle ). Although there exists truth in such pieces, in order to make such fit properly with one another the author of Acts would have required a "good deal of imagination" to form a "coherent and unified" account ). Pertaining to such discrepancies it is best to employ Knox's tactics of critical examination and prioritization of the letters over that of Acts. Book Of Acts Synopsis: Acts Shannon Fouts BIBL 5023 Graduate Survey of the Bible Dr. Grant Testut August 10, 2015 Introduction The book of Acts is a captivating, theological narrative of the early church's development from the resurrection of Christ through the first three decades of the Church as the gospel spread throughout the ancient Mediterranean world until it reached Rome. Addressed to Theophilus, the same patron as that of the Gospel of Luke, Acts is believed to have been written as a sequel to the gospel. The book of Acts serves as a bridge between the life of Christ presented in the gospels with the life of the early church as revealed through the remaining New Testament writings. • 35. Analysis Of Acts ' Portrayal Of Receiving The Holy Spirit An Analysis of Acts' Portrayal of Receiving the Holy Spirit Introduction Christians have consistently struggled with defining the nature of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Old Testament clearly spoke of the majesty and sovereignty of the Father. The Son was foretold in the Old Testament and manifested in the incarnation of Jesus, who walked among mankind and gave men direction by His words. Jesus described that He would send the Holy Spirit to help and minister to believers after Jesus went to be with the Father in heaven. The Holy Spirit showed evidence of His coming in the testimony of the writer of Acts. Since that time, theologians have debated the work that the Holy Spirit continues to conduct and certain actions that some believe to have been discontinued. This paper will consider how the author of Acts' described the "receiving of the Holy Spirit" which the apostles and other believers experienced and how other theologians have interpreted the descriptions provided in the book of Acts. The Holy Spirit's Action of Coming to the Apostles in Acts Jesus spoke to His disciples after His resurrection and shared that He would leave them, but that the Father would send what He had promised (Luke 24:49). The author of the book of Luke, which was written by the same person who wrote the books of Acts, continues this conversation in Acts 1:4–8. It is impossible to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact role? What persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself perpetrate? And most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? Is he an example which we can portray with the aspects of sectarianism in the modern world today? As in the case of Abram, Sarai and Jacob, the change of destiny is indicated by the change of name. This name Cephas is taken from the Aramaic vernacular and corresponds to the Greek Peter, Petros, which means a piece of rock– a mass of rock detached from the living rock (T. Butler). It is a term which becomes a natural emblem of firmness and stability. It may be hard for us to see the fitness of such a name for a man apparently so unstable; but the fitness was perceived by Christ. Peter wavered often, even while under his Master's eye, and at least once afterward, but he continually became more and more like the "rock" that Christ wanted him to be and he was indeed a pillar of the church (W.B. Hill). We observe that all the time Christ was with the Twelve, Peter was a leader among them. Occasionally, Christ would select certain ones for special responsibilities; for example: Peter, James and John to witness the raising of Jarius' daughter, the transfiguration, and the agony in the garden (G. Stokes). Now, why were these particular men selected on these occasions to be the recipients of special privileges and the bearers of the attendant responsibilities? • 45. The Apostle, Paul, in the Book of Acts The genre of the book of Acts chapter 19:23–41 is written in the narrative form, and is set in a time when the people of Ephesus worshipped a goddess who they said fell from heaven. During this time period the apostle Paul began his travels preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus and upon making contact with some disciples he asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. They answered him saying they did not know of the Holy Spirit. He also was concerned if they had been baptized in Jesus name, they answered no, but they had only received John's baptism. Upon hearing this Paul explained to the people of Ephesus that John's baptism was a baptism of repentance, but they should be baptized in the name of the one who came after John, Jesus Christ. Therefore when they heard this they were baptized in Jesus name, and after Paul laid his hands on them they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues and prophesy. Now God worked unusual miracles through Paul, so that even when handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to try to perform a exorcism in the name of Jesus by commanding that a evil spirit leave a man, in the name of Jesus who Paul preached, but it didn't work because they had no relationship with Jesus. The Acts should be seen as a description of the ongoing work of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit through His apostles and followers. Luke's aim is to give an historical record of the early church from its birth in Jerusalem to how it reached around the world with the Gospel. Through this work Luke reveals that everything that was said previously about Jesus Christ was absolute truth. The book of Acts can be split into two main parts: 1. The birth of the Church 2. The key verse on prayer is "They continued steadfast ... in prayers" (Acts 2:42). 2) Courage Boldness or courage does not come as a matter of course but come as we rely upon the Lord who strengthens us to stand firm "And now, Lord, behold their threatening: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy word" (4:29). Now, what if someone new walked in not knowing that was something they tell their customers. They could change the entire atmosphere on how they serve and it would be noticed. The Epistles of the New Testament were to the believers inspired by the Holy Spirit...a creed for us to apply. Acts is a devotional and an historical account of the spread of Christianity. Relatively, it is the triumph of the Christian message, despite the persecution of Christ, and his people. Acts begins Jesus' charge to the Twelve Apostles to spread the Gospel throughout the world, giving them the power of the witness through the Holy Spirit. Acts is a post– resurrection message amid the Apostles and Jesus, equally teaching them about the Kingdom of God. Triumphantly, the Acts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Acts Of The Apostles "The Acts of the Apostles" is the name given to the second part of a two–volume work traditionally identified as having been written by Luke, a companion of the Apostle Paul." "Luke presumably a Gentile Christian, helps his communities to know how to remain faithful to tradition while reinterpreting it for their new circumstances." In this pericope of Acts 2:41–47, the portrait of a group of believers who have a community spirit and is filled with the Holy Spirit, who becomes the church is depicted. In verse forty–one, at the annual feast of Pentecost, as a result of the sermon Peter preached that mirrored the behavior of the people to themselves concerning their treatment of Jesus, there was a large number of people who did not ... "They should not depart Jerusalem" connotes the appointed place for the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. Should anyone of them had gone against his command to stay in Jerusalem, that person would have missed the mighty move of God. They were to begin their witness about the Lord in Jerusalem and expand their territory. One of the wonders and signs Jesus said he would show was manifested in the people being able to hear one another in their own native tongue. As Peter spoke to them, he pointed out that Jesus was sitting at the right hand of God. And God the Father had filled Jesus with the Holy Ghost and now Jesus was shedding forth the Holy Ghost upon them. This made them all the more glad. They were also amazed and marveled and were glad about the national racial barrier being broken down through the power of Holy Spirit. People from every nation was there and on one accord. This answered the declaration God made: "It shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory" (Is 66:18). And according to (2:1) at least three thousand were glad enough to be baptized in to the believers' fellowship. And as Joel the prophet had spoken, they began to prophesy even to each other. • 61. Paul's Letter Of First Thessalonians INTRODUCTION Paul's letter of First Thessalonians gives us a window into the early communities that followed Jesus Christ. It may surprise a modern reader to find out that Paul does not discuss concepts that are familiar in churches today, such as faith and freedom from the law. Instead, he focuses on the end– times (1 Thess. 1:10), that is, the idea that the Lord would be returning to earth soon. In 1 Thess. 5:1–11, the passage that is my focus for this paper, Paul instructs the Thessalonian congregation about the "day of the Lord," answering the general question of concern to the believers of his time: what will happen when Jesus returns? This paper will consist of a close reading of 1 Thess. 5:1–11. After giving an overview about the dating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). One would assume the apostle would highlight and take a great deal of time to discuss in detail their concerns. Yet, the apostle merely repeats what Jesus says (Acts 1:7). The apostle reassures the church that there is no need to be concerned or anxious about the time or the seasons, for no one knows the time or the season. Other passages in the New Testament confirm Paul's point. "It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority" (Acts 1:7). • 63. The Presence Of Freedom In The Book Of Acts The Presence of Freedom in the Book of Acts Freedom is a reoccurring theme in many works of literature, including The Bible. Human freedom is typically categorized one of two ways, positive and negative freedom. Positive freedom is the removal of something negative in one's life, while negative freedom restricts and individual from a specific want or need, yet typically is believed to benefit them. Throughout the book of Acts, negative freedom is constantly present for man. Controlled by one supreme being, humans have no say in some actions they take, the control over the status of their life (alive or deceased), or their mental and physical well–beings. While some believers of The Bible believe that freedom comes from its writings and from following Christ, a closer reading of the text as a narrative, reveals that the characters' present within lack freedom in various forms because of their religious followings. For instance, one reoccurring theme in Acts are the Apostles acting as witnesses; however, to understand the level of freedom that these men experience in their decision to preach and teach will come from analyzing ... • 65. Christians Should Study Greek Philosophy Throughout the history of Christianity, there have been many different ideas on how a Christian should interact with the world in which they lived. From the biblical writings of The Gospel according to Matthew, and The Acts of the Apostles, to the non–biblical writings of On Philosophy, and The Prescription Against Heretics, the ideas of Christianity were brought together. The two non–biblical documents highlight the arguments of whether or not Christians should study Greek philosophy. The books from The Bible showed that Christian beliefs focused on how one should primarily seek their ultimate reward or satisfaction in the Kingdom of God (spiritual), rather than in the here and now (temporal). Christianity, as it began, was a faith that emphasized the importance of acting charitable towards the less fortunate, while understanding that it was ones duty to worship God and spread that love for Him to those who didn't believe. In the Gospel According to Matthew, Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." When Jesus said this, he showed how the Kingdom of Heaven was welcomed for anybody, not only those who were more fortunate than others. Jesus then went on to explain how those who were humble and those who showed righteousness would enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus also told the people how they should spread his word everywhere and teach those to examine all the things He commanded them. In The Great Commission speech, Jesus inspired His ... And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Jesus gave this command to the apostles shortly before he ascended into Heaven. He said this verse unto them as he wanted them to continue to spread his teachings. COLUMN 1 PARAGRAPHS COLUMN 2 IMMEDIATE CONTEXT (STORIES OR SPEECHES) COLUMN 3 MAJOR POINTS COLUMN 4 PANEL TITLE AND THEMATIC SUMMARY STATEMENT 1:1–5 Luke introduces his letter to Theophilus and provides the beginning context. There is nothing before this paragraph; however, all of Acts remains after this paragraph. First, Luke greets Theophilus.  Immediately after, the disciples are watching Jesus ascend to heaven. Jesus also begins to remind them, in a speech, of the promise of the Holy Spirit.  Title: Greeting and Jesus's Departing Speech  Luke's Acts is a continuation of the Lukan Gospel that he also wrote to Theophilus. In the Gospel, Jesus enters the scene, whereas, in Acts, Jesus is leaving. Luke desires to assure Theophilus, although He is ascending to heaven, He is leaving His Holy Spirit. Title: A Continuation of Luke's Gospel and Jesus is Leaving, but His Spirit Remains Luke, the writer of both the Lukan Gospel and the book of Acts, commences the book of Acts by revealing that this book will differ from the Gospel: in the Gospel, Jesus personally taught; in Acts, Jesus teaches by His Spirit through His people. Seeing their Master on the verge of leaving, the Apostles were concerned regarding the restoration of the kingdom. By answering that the timing of the restoration is unknown, Jesus had the disciples once again focus on the Holy Spirit. His ascension shocked the disciples still. Again, their focus had to center in the Holy Spirit; thus, angels comforted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Should Gentiles Be Allowed To Be Saved Without Being... The main issue of the Council of Jerusalem was whether or not you could be accepted as a member of God's church and be saved without being circumcised. There were many questions and debates on where they should draw the line. One side of the debate was that salvation was being offered to everyone regardless of heritage or the keeping of the "customs of Moses". Paul conveyed the great signs and wonders that had been done among the Gentiles (English Standard Version, Acts 15:12– 13). Peter also testified that God had shown him that the Gentiles would receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 15:8). If you have already been called by God, repented of your sins, and have the Holy Spirit then why would you need to be circumcised in order to be saved? The other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Acts 1:15–26, with the call of Matthias, it demonstrates that twelve was the number of apostles set, to govern the church. The function of the twelve apostles is given in Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
