Welcome to our Project: The development of Bangladeshi Jatra. We made this Proposed Plan to develop our old cultural program Jatra.
We cannot let this ancient art form crumble under these pressures that can be easily contained if the concerned authorities so wish. It is important for Jatra to go back to its original people-oriented form if it were to sustain. But we, the nation, need to provide systematic support to return this art form to its original glory.

4. In the earlier 20th century a distinct form of
swadeshi Jatra or nationalist traditional
theatre came into being in Bengal. Mahatma
Gandhi's Non Cooperation Movement and the
removal of untouchability were favourite
themes of these, Jatras. The trend has
continued to the post-independence period
where different types of buming social
problems have been powerfully and effectively
treated through this medium.
6. o When compared to other art forms, there is widespread
discrimination, gender and wage disparity, lack of funding
and gross neglect from the authorities.
o There are no training opportunities for Jatra artistes and
thus, there is no scope for further development of their art.
o There are approximately 7,000 professional Jatra artistes
in Bangladesh.
o Most of the time, they are not even paid according to their
agreements.
o According to Tapan Bagchi in Bangladesher Jatra Shilpider
Jiban O Jibika, there sallary in per show is 1000- 4000 tk.
8. o Lack of government and non-government patronage
o Remuneration and social dignity
o The emergence of information and technology
o Negative conception about female actress
o Appearance of western culture
o Obscenity
o Lack of proper education of the artists
o Old story, concept, presentation style and lack of modern ideas and
presentation process according to the interest of public.
REASONS We have found some reasons that is why Jatra
has lost its glory. The reasons are :
9. OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT
o Finding the present situation of Jatra Industry
in our country.
o Finding the reasons of why Jatra has lost its
glory.
o Making a development project plan for Jatra to
gain its glory again.
11. MAIN THEME
WOMEN
EMPOWERMENT
1
In this project we want to increase social value about Jatra through women
empowerment. We can use women empowerment as a tool for developing the
condition of Jatra. In past dowry, religious term were the main theme of Jatra.
But in recent days people are not interested in those theme. To cope up with
the recent days, authority should take an initiative for reproduce Jatra.
15. QUALIFICATION
OF THE ARTISTS
5
Every artist must have some quality to work in his or her field.
But in ancient time most of the artists of Jatra don’t have any
educational qualification. For that reason they are not very
conscious about the society. The authority should take steps to
license the qualified people in Jatra.
17. HEALTHY SALARY
FOR JARTA ARTISTS
7
One of the main reasons of
losing interest in this Jatra of
the jatra artists is not getting
accurate payment according to
their job. They had no security
of their old age.
18. STOP OBSCENITY !!!8
Obscenity should be
removed and a sober and
healthy theme should be
presented in jatra so that
the people of every age
and gender can enjoy.
20. OUR RECOMMENDATION
AND LIMITATIONS
Talk with the jatra artist as much as possible, go outside Dhaka
and visit some jatra-monch around the country, talk with the
authorities that are responsible for the development of the
sector. We can’t talk with any jatra artist directly during the
project paper – that’s the main limitation in our work.
24. CONCLUSION
We cannot let this ancient art form crumble under these
pressures that can be easily contained if the concerned
authorities so wish. It is important for Jatra to go back to
its original people-oriented form if it were to sustain. But
we, the nation, need to provide systematic support to
return this art form to its original glory.
