5. Design Research
Although I have found it hard to keep my Tumblr blog up to date, I have
produced a Wix website for myself which will later include my finished
show reel and have a constant design throughout with my CV and
Business Card.
The website includes examples of my past work, contact details, and
an about me section where I am free to describe myself and my interest
in the live television industry.
6. Showreel Research
Andrew Painten, a freelance
Director/Producer provided tips
for a good show reel along with
CV hints. His website includes
programme clips and a link to his
social media sites.
Mob Sport is the
largest sport
production company
across Europe. Their
website provides a
range of showreels
with a list of directors
and their previous
work.
7. Show Reel Storyboard
Here is a rough story board outlining how I aim to
construct my show reel with clips from my existing work.
8. After an introduction of the sport videos I have produced and
camera operated, I will go on to showcase my university
projects, with emphasis on those that include the industry
roles I am striving for.
9. CV Research
Perforated CV and Business
Card - everything in one place
plus a small card with contact
details rather than a large sheet
of paper.
For my CV package, I would
like to produce a DVD for my
showreel along with a simple
description of my skills and
goals.
10. CV Design Research
I would like to produce a design
that is simplistic and eye catching.
As I am striving for a creative
industry, I will need to reflect this
creativity in my work.
A self promotion box with CV
information with contact details. This is
a unique and innovative way to
advertise yourself and I will strive to
design a concept like this.
11. Business Card Research
Television business cards
normally adopt a simplistic
design with images or logos
related to their roll in the
industry. As I am looking to
work in the live television
industry I will include this in
my business card designs,
along with sport style designs
to make it clear that is the
sector of the industry I want
to enter. I currently carry a
business card designed for
my role as Head of Sport at
UPSUtv but would like to
produce a more suitable
design that has a more
personal touch.
12. Business Card Design
Ideas
In the previous slide I most prefer the colour bars
business card as it is impactful while relating to my
desired industry. This will be kept in mind as a possible
design, but I will have to ensure I can incorporate my logo
in a stylish and eye catching way.
As I am looking to becoming a script supervisor I will
consider the choice of font I am using for both my
business card and CV design. On the other hand, a
typewriter font is fairly predictable for such a role,
therefore I will aim to produce a unique looking card while
ensuring it is relevant to my choice of industry.
13. Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Broad set of skills including production management, live television, and film
production.
Knowledge of cameras and editing software.
Organisational skills with strong people skills from working as a team in projects and
with actors on set.
Experience on set and in the gallery as producer, director, pa, vision mixer etc.
Currently volunteer on That’s Music, a music show on regional channel That’s Solent
Weaknesses
Limited show reel work, mostly university projects.
Few industry contacts and only a small amount of work experience, may make it
harder to break into such a competitive industry
14. Action Plan
In order to complete my CV and Business Card designs, I
will aim to have a solid design by the end of March to test
and get feedback. This will ensure I can complete a CV
and Business Card with relevant and interesting content to
achieve my desired career.
This progress will be recorded on my blog, with screen
shots of the design process.
In order to complete my showreel, I will take the best
segments of my current work and edit them into a short
sequence that summarises my industry relevant skills.
