8. How the Lord takes care
of the true devotee is declared.
[9.22]
GITA Ch 9 , Verse s 22
This is one of the most important verses
in the Gita. As it occurs in the middle of the Gita,
we may describe it as the most precious gem in
the Gita-diamond garland.
9. IGNORANT` WISE
Disregarding the Self, lead an empty life
with vain hopes and unfulfilled aspirations.
They go through the endless cycle of birth
and death.
The wise seek the Self
ignorant gain their limited, mundane ends
but never find accomplishment in their
lives,
wise pursue the ultimate goal of
Realization and find absolute peace and
bliss in their own Self.
Sri Krishna, therefore, advises Arjuna to
seek the Self, to subsume all worldly
activities to the Self until Spiritual
Enlightenment is reached.
This chapter explainsThis chapter explains
how the Self - Atman - pervades the entire world.how the Self - Atman - pervades the entire world.

10. A direct way is described in this Chapter.A direct way is described in this Chapter.
This knowledge being unknown to theThis knowledge being unknown to the
mankind at large, Krishna terms it as amankind at large, Krishna terms it as a
supreme secretsupreme secret and hence this Chapter is
called ‘‘Yoga of Royal Knowledge andYoga of Royal Knowledge and
Royal SecretRoyal Secret’’..
The previous Chapter of the Gita dealt with liberation by
stages through the process of meditation.
But this way is not the only means of emancipation.

11. All living beings and inert
things arise from the
supreme Reality
SUPREME
REALITY
exist in the Reality and
ultimately merge into the
Reality.
REALITY
Those who fail to pursue this knowledge remain bound to the world of mortality.
Krishna, therefore, appeals to the seekers to free themselves from the manifestappeals to the seekers to free themselves from the manifest
world and reach the unmanifest Realityworld and reach the unmanifest Reality and to discover the Divinity that supports the
pluralistic phenomenal existence.

12. "Rajavidya Rajaguhya Yoga."
GITA Ch 9 ,
"Rajavidya means
royal knowledge.
"The word 'raja* (King)
indicates supremacy."
'Rajaguhya’ means
'royal secret.'
It means supreme knowledge and the supreme secret.
It may be taken to mean also knowledge which Kings
in former ages possessed and practiced.
13. How is the discourse is connected with the previous one ?
The Lord declared that
the Imprerishable Brahman
(Akshara Parabrahma Yoga) includes the
supreme (nirguna) and the manifestation
{saguna).
This is a continuation of what the Lord stated in
the eigth Discourse in answer to the seven
questions put by Arjuna regarding adhibuta
adhidaiva etc.
GITA Ch 9 ,
14. Kesava Kasmiri's Commentary
In the seventh and eighth chapters Lord Krishna described:
1)The paramount position of the Supreme Lord.
2) The various types of devotees of the Supreme Lord.
3) Bhakti or pure loving devotion as the only way to attain the
Supreme Lord.
4) That atma tattva or soul realisation is a prerequisite for attaining
the Supreme Lord.
5) Only the devotees who have achieved the above attain liberation
and the Supreme Lord.
6) Those who lack sufficient knowledge and soul realisation are
reborn again and again
In this 9In this 9thth chapterchapter
1-- Lord Krishna begins revealing confidential information about the
Supreme Lord
2--- as well as the glory and extraordinary power of the devotees.

15. Live as the Gita Teaches You to Live
In this Chapter Sri Krishna advises Arjuna to do every thing as an offering to The Lord.Sri Krishna advises Arjuna to do every thing as an offering to The Lord.
All actions thus become a symbol of devotion and help remembering God.All actions thus become a symbol of devotion and help remembering God.
Submission to the Divine is the essence of spiritual sadhana. The following verses tell
us how to go about in that path.
But the Mahatmas (great souls) O Partha, possessing the Divine nature worship Me
with undisturbed minds knowing Me as the imperishable origin of all beings. 9.13
Always glorifying Me, striving with firm resolve, bowing down to Me in devotion,
always steadfast, they worship Me. 9.14
In this discourse The Lord reveals the secret that nothing can exist apart from Him.The Lord reveals the secret that nothing can exist apart from Him.
He is both the manifested and Unmanifested Reality of the Universe.
He who is aware of this secret of Reality and Existence will surely reach Him.will surely reach Him.
For this the guidance is given by the LordFor this the guidance is given by the Lord
in Verses 9.22, 9.27, 9.30, 9.31 & 9.34in Verses 9.22, 9.27, 9.30, 9.31 & 9.34
suggesting a plan of action for the devotees and seekers.

16. Non-worshippers are caught in the wheel of birth & deathNon-worshippers are caught in the wheel of birth & death
•Worshipping of other gods
•Devotion and its effects
•Why at all the lord requires offering from a seeker?
•Result of such dedication of activities
The Lord says that who ever offer Him with love and devotion even water, a leaf, awho ever offer Him with love and devotion even water, a leaf, a
flower or a fruit He acceptsflower or a fruit He accepts it. He is not concerned with the quality of the article
offered to Him by the devotees, for He watches only their motive and devotiontheir motive and devotion.
Even if the worst sinners worship Him with exclusive devotion, they will be regarded
as righteous, for they have taken a right step.
“To these men who worship Me alone, thinking of no other, to those ever self-
controlled, I secure which is not already possessed (Yoga) and preserve what they
already possess (Kshema).” This assurance contained in the Verse 9.22Verse 9.22 is the focus
of the Lord’s advice

the need to be non-envious..
2. This raja vidya is bhakti, which we are about to hear
about.
Gita - Chapter 9 -.Outline of section " A "
Nonenviousness gives one the qualification to hear confidential knowledge, and
faithlessness disqualifies one and forces one to fall down and take repeated birth and death
3. Th€kura says that Arjuna asks that if it is
so nice then why are so many people in
samsara. So Krishna explains — they have no
faith.
enviousness means to find fault,
even in the midst of good qualities.
Such a person should not be
taught this knowledge.
7.2.
What are they not faithful about? The process
of devotion. So they cannot take to the simple
process of devotion. They want some other
process..

1. Worshippers of the universal form.
Even though such people are not well
situated, still the ideas presented here
can help us become “mayy asakta
manah.” ((9.9.16-19)16-19)
Universal form of the Lord
2. More about demigod worship. They should really worship Krishna, and
if they don’t they will fall down ((9.9.20-25)20-25)
19: "Since Krishna is both matter and
spirit, the gigantic universal form
comprising all material
manifestations is also Krishna
9.9.20-21.20-21. The temporary nature of demigod worship is explained. In verse 20
the sins they become purified of are those which could take them to hell. But
they do not become fully purified.
What is the final achievement: repeated birth and death
Gita - Chapter 9 -.Outline of section
9.9.22.22. Even though we usually understand that Krishna has no work to perform — He
leaves that up to Visnu — still He is prepared to work for His pure devotees.
9.9.23.23. Then back to the demigod worshippers.
They are indirectly worshipping Krishna, but in a wrong way.
9.9.24.24. So, as usually happens when one does something in the wrong way, they fall
down.
9.9.25.25. Different destinations of different worshippers. Of course those who don’t
worship Krishna will fall down, if they haven’t already.

Krishna (26-34)
1. Krsna requests that one worship Him with
devotion, even using a leaf, a fruit, a flower, or
some water. Or one can offer Krishna the
austerities and charities he performs. Such
offerings will free one from all reaction to work.
With one's mind thus fixed on Krishna, the
worshiper will come to Krishna. (26-28) ]
2. A devotee, even if committing a horrible
activity, is to be considered saintly and
quickly becomes righteous. Krishna then
asks Arjuna to declare it boldly that His
devotee is never vanquished. (29-31)
3. By thinking of Krishna etc, regardless of
one’s position materially one will come to Him.
(32-34)
Gita - Chapter 9 -.Outline of sections
26. Pure devotional service.
Very simple — one leaf, one fruit etc.
27.whatever you are going to do anyway, but do
it for me. This is sakama bhakti..
28. In these ways the simplicity of devotional
service is shown.
(26-28) ]
(29-31) ]
29. The first part of this verse shows how
Supersoul relates with the karmis.
The second part shows how Bhagavan relates
with the devotees.
30. There are 3 possible understandings to
this verse:Just talking of the possibility of an
impossible situation to make a point.
If one is sinful before coming to Krishna
consciousness, his past shouldn’t be
considered when he is a devotee. If sin is
actually performed in devotional service.
32. Devotional service to purify, despite great
impurity being there.Bhakti is to potent.
Bhakti is to potent
33. So it is even easier for the pious, elevated
people.
34. The first thing is one should fix the mind
on Krishna, not just work, work, work. That is
what these courses are about.
This verse is the essence of all confidential
knowledge. It is exactly in the middle of the
Bhagavad gita. This is the 'most confidential
knowledge.
